This episode is about breaking a stigma. No show could ever be at fault for following a marquee night where the entire No Code record was played on a whim. Nor can it be at fault for not being the show in Milwaukee the next night where the entire Yield record was done. But if you ask anyone that was in the building on October 19 of 2014 in St. Paul, Minnesota, they'll tell you that they got a near perfect show. Pearl Jam hadn't played in Minnesota (aside from some Target corporate party that doesn't count) since 2006, but it was two shows where they were the opening act for Tom Petty. So for a full Pearl Jam experience? 2003. This crowd waited 11 years, and although they didn't get an album show, there were enough moments here that this crowd holds special. There are a few things to take away from this night. Although the setlist on paper may look like a pretty average Pearl Jam set, the performances are all delivered with a sense of purpose. This was the first instance where Ed spreads awareness for a rare skin disease called EB. Something he and his wife have raised millions of dollars for in order to find a cure ever since that day. He invites a doctor on stage who specializes in bone marrow treatment named Dr. Yakub Tolar, and the result is an inspirational moment where he relates what the band does to his own work in the medical field. Performance wise? It's hands down Love Boat Captain as the best moment of this show, and it's a must listen. Thanks to our Patrons Kirk Walton and Ben Dwyer both for pitching this show. Today we are walking with a trilingual professional, international education leader, and doctoral student. A District of Columbia native, Tonija moved to St. Paul (MN) where she earned her bachelor's degree in Latin American Studies and Spanish from Macalester College. After graduating, she moved to South Africa where she worked alongside University of Cape Town faculty to develop strategies that would encourage exchange among international and South African students. She later returned to DC and earned her master's degree in Tourism Administration with a focus on International Education from George Washington University. She currently carries out this mission in her role as the Director of the Ralph J. Bunch International Affairs Center at Howard University. As director, provides guidance and direction towards comprehensive internationalization. She also administers four programs dedicated to increasing the representation of systemically marginalized and historically underrepresented communities in foreign service and development. When she's not working as the director, she is completing her doctoral coursework in the Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies program at Howard. A quick google search will reveal that she is THE leader in preparing students of color for global leadership and is an active in addressing racism in international education. Her social media will remind you of #HowardForward, #StudyAbroadSoBlack, #WorldDomination. But she always leave us with one question: If HBCUs were born out of a movement towards justice, what should international education look like at HBCUs? Let's walk and talk about it! There is a known story in the Hmong community that has affected a lot of us in different ways. This story, I believe, needs to be told. My older sister and I co-wrote this story based on research that we found. If you are interested in reading the articles, they are linked in the description. There are so many different opinions and views involved with this story that it was extremely hard to capture just the facts. This story is about Khoua Her.Writing credits - Mai Thao Xiong & MYX in the DarkMusic Provided By Dreamer by Hazyhttps://soundcloud.com/hazy_music Music provided by https://www.plugnplaymusic.netResources:https://www.thehotline.org/ https://www.peaceoverviolence.org/iii-the-cycle-of-violence-and-power-and-controlNew Articles & Research:https://www.twincities.com/2018/09/01/this-can-never-happen-again-a-st-paul-mothers-descent-into-darkness-20-years-ago-left-nightmares-changes-to-mental-health-assistance/ https://www.nytimes.com/1998/09/05/us/6-children-found-strangled-after-mother-confesses-to-911.html https://murderpedia.org/female.H/h/her-khoua.htm#:~:text=In%20a%20plea%20deal%2C%20she,of%20fifty%20years%20in%20prison.&text=Khoua%20Her%2C%20married%20at%2012,having%20killed%20her%20six%20children.&text=%22If%20I%20died%2C%20then%20nobody%20would%20love%20my%20children.%22https://www.pbs.org/video/six-murders-in-st-paul-5969/ https://www.twincities.com/2018/09/01/this-can-never-happen-again-a-st-paul-mothers-descent-into-darkness-20-years-ago-left-nightmares-changes-to-mental-health-assistance/

He was a college RB at Luther College (NCAA DIII), Decorah IA and at the University of Thomas (NCAA DIII), St. Paul MN. He is the current Head Football Coach at Spring Mountain HS. He has a very impressive resume', but that only begins to scratch the surface of what he and his wife, Jody have done to the culture of not only that football program, but all the boys in the facility itself. That's right...Spring Mountain HS is not your average high school. It is a rehabilitation center for young men who made some bad choices. Aaron and Jody are Juvenile Probation Officers and together have changed lives for the better in a very tough situation. Dr. Christy Clark-Pujara, Associate Professor of History at U.W. Madison, will discuss why race matters. Why is there such tension, division and disparities among racial groups in the United States of America, especially among white and black Americans? How and why did blackness and slavery become synonymous? How and why did a nation founded upon liberty and freedom perpetuate human bondage? What are the legacies of race-based slavery in America? These are a few of the questions explored in her presentation. Dr. Clark-Pujara fouces her research on the experiences of black people in French and British North America in the 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries. She contends that the full dimensions of the African American and American experience cannot be appreciated without reference to how black people managed their lives in places where they were few. Dr. Clark has a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa; an M.A. from the University of Iowa; and a B.A. from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul MN.

Leadership Vision has been at the forefront of the Strengths movement since the very beginning. Back in 1999, Brian was working at Bethel University in St. Paul MN and had just received a grant to identify a cohort for distance education. They needed to use assessments and psychometrics as part of the grant requirement. Gallup found out about this, and someone from the organization reached out and asked if he wanted to partner using this new tool, StrengthsFinder. Since the year 2000, Leadership Vision has provided strengths based leadership and organizational consulting to all sectors of business, education, technology, healthcare, and nonprofits. Since then, we've worked with something like 33,000 people across 350 different organizations in 31+ countries. In today's show, we're going to break down each of those statements, not only to share our Strengths philosophy, to help you better understand the importance of building your own Strengths culture. We've also got a super simple tip to share at the end, so stick around.
