And it is also a fun thing that people can follow along with content creators, like “What did BDM add to his card pool this week?” etc Can watch a bunch of this on Stream Learned about this through listening to an episode of Limited Resources @Max: To me a league is a way to help people play EDH the way they want without having to worry about power level. I’ve heard of leagues that are tailored for higher power decks or leagues tailored to keep the power level for all participants at a lower power level. Rewarding / punishing players for doing certain actions in game ie First Blood (+1) point, Infinite Combo (-2) points This can be done via a point system. What exactly IS a league? Zack and I have, in the past, run a league where we met every other week, and we had a lot of fun doing it A group of us from my LGS have done Pre-Con leagues. I think we did this for C15 & C16. Week 1 is precon as is, every week you get $5 in cards to add, you can bank your money if you don’t want to make any additions. Kept track via paper. These days it’d be super easy to create a google doc to track it all for everyone. Played for about 5 weeks. It’d always be our 1st game of the night then we’d play our “real” decks Max, have you ever been part of a league? Make sure folks know when/where they will be playing Make the rules clear and explicit Be prepared to answer LOTS of questions Try to make it fun for EVERYONE! Be kind to your Commissioner, it’s a lot of work! @Max - Get everyone's opinion. Biggest thing I remember from the pre-con leagues was spending a few weeks discussing the point system and budget for each week. @Max - Compromise - You aren’t going to make everyone happy but you can do your best to make it fun for everyone. League Dos and Don’ts Playing for points changes the fundamental way multiplayer Magic is played Will people show up consistently if it’s for casual? If competitive, how will you track standings? (Hint: Spreadsheet!!!) Should your league be casual or competitive? Our experiences with running a league Organizing a league is very similar to organizing something like the Vegas Rotisserie So much fun! A lot of the fun was had around seeing what cards people drafted, etc. Meta-fun! Not quite a league, but man, how much fun was the rotisserie?  This should be awesome! Folks at home can definitely do something like this, and it’s the perfect way to stay connected with your playgroup during this pandemic, also, since most of us won’t be playing in stores (Support your LGS if you can!), this is a good way to have an authentic Commander Legends experience We can stream opening card pools, as well as games, how cool is that? The much heralded Banned and Restricted announcement has come and gone. While there is some immediate relief for Vintage and Legacy players from Lurrus, if you are a Standard player looking to avoid getting paired against a Companion deck anytime soon you are not going to be happy. There was an interesting nugget buried in the last paragraph of the "Other Formats" section of the announcement in which Ian Duke said, "If we see signs of long-term health issues resulting from high metagame share of companion decks, we're willing to take steps up to or including changing how the companion mechanic works." So what does that mean exactly? Brian "BDM" Marshall had one easy suggestion on Twitter while Hall of Famer Zvi Mowshowitz prefers the nuclear option. https://twitter.com/Top8Games/status/1262400478731796483?s=20 The two of them put on their snazziest R&D/Organized Play hats and triaged the different options which ranged from forced mulligans to killing access to sideboard during games to some kind of Bark in the Park alternative Standard format. AppleTV launched earlier this month, Disney+ launched this week, and just a few hours later Netflix and Nickelodeon announced that they’d be jägering together to help fight against the new dogs on the block too. And Magic had their own entertainment debut this week too, albeit much worse than any of the streamer services, with the release of War for the Spark: Forsaken. Now, Magic: The Gathering is a big brand with gravitas and clout. So it’s a good feather in a streaming services’ cap. So tell me: what would you produce using MTG’s vast variety of fabulous characters and storylines to try to compete in the Stream Wars?

What is the stable? It’s a place to keep the decks you play often, up-to-date. This is not for ALL of your decks (unless you only have a few decks) I have like 25 decks, and I’m not proposing to keep up with all of them, I’m proposing that you select the true gems, the ones you you always have fun playing, and thinking about This can be nice if you have decks in many different tools, such as Tappedout, or Archidekt, or the new Scryfall Deck Editor It’s a single place you can access that has all your decks in one place.  There’s a social component to the stable as well. I propose that folks can share their Stable with other people, and that it can be a way to let other people (in person and on the internet) get to know them. A business card that you can hand to other folks that says “I’m this kind of Commander player!” I like the idea of doing this because I am constantly updating decks, but don’t have a way to track those changes and if they are improvements or not. Ryan - Historical Data!  The chances of getting a deck exactly the way you want it the first time you play it is pretty slim. This lets you track what’s working for you and not working for you.  A way to force us to consider upgrading decks  Summary - This probably isn’t a new idea, and it’s probably something that some of you out in audience land already do. I just wanted to establish this idea, and get some conversation around this topic, maybe also establish some common terms we can use in this discussion. Also, I’m really bad at updating decks, and we’ll see this when I get to my personal Stable later this episode This is player dependant, but the more decks in your stable, probably the less attention you can give to each deck. Granted, I had a great starting point to launch from (Thanks Jumbo Commander). This deck is really fun, and I play it all the time, and it deserves some attention. One of the reasons I’m so hesitant to update this deck is that it is one of my favorites, and it’s really hitting the sweet spot between flavor and function, and I don’t want to mess it up.
