“I didn't really know I was allowed to be a screenwriter, so I didn't consider that as a career or life option growing up Southeast of England,” says Drew Pearce. “People I knew didn't go to University and they definitely didn't work in movies.” “Throughout my life, I have shown a staggering lack of imagination in thinking I can do these jobs. But when I meet a person who does the job, I do think, ‘Well, if they can do it, I can do it,'” he jokes. After exploring paths as a musician, a magazine writer, and the comic scene, he eventually created a sitcom in the UK. The show received mixed reviews in the UK, but found its way to America where it found some traction. “I just so happened to do a show about off-duty superheroes, set in a pub, the same year that Iron Man came out, so those things dove-tailed.” The series was called No Heroics. Thanks to the show, this eventually led to a meeting with Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Studios) and work on projects such as Iron Man 3, Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Lego Marvel's Avengers, Hotel Artemis, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, and most recently, The Fall Guy. “Kevin Feige forced us together,” he says about his collaboration with Shane Black. “Legendary screenwriter Shane Black did not want me as a co-writer,” he jokes. “It was an arranged marriage that could have been incredibly short-lived. Shane was the Director so he had the power to fire me, but I had grown up with Shane's movies and there's a huge part of what I do.” “But honestly, there was an organic exchange of tones. He liked that I came from comedy and I liked how American his stuff is.” Black's credits also include Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys, and The Predator. “Weirdly, like two characters in a Shane Black movie — the grizzled old veteran and the arrogant younger copy — we learned from each other and a bond was formed.” That said, over the last 14 years, Pearce has written or worked on 60+ movies, including unmade specs, but he's only known for the action-comedies listed above. Drew Pearce is the writer of movies like Iron Man 3, Hobbs and Shaw and 2018's Hotel Artemis – the Scottish-born storyteller's directorial debut. This week, he's back in cinemas with The Fall Guy – a car-flipping, boat-exploding, bullet-dodging, unicorn-hallucinating love letter to practical filmmaking that's pure adrenaline and charisma. The David Leitch-directed film – loosely adapted from the 1980s TV show of the same name – stars Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman whose career isn't the only thing derailed when he suffers a terrible accident on the set of an action movie. His fledgling romance with emerging director Jody Moreno, played by Emily Blunt, also hits the rocks – that is, until an opportunity arises to perhaps win her back. The star of Jody's new sci-fi blockbuster, Metalstorm, has gone missing. If Colt can use his stuntman skills to track down the Hollywood A-list actor he used to double, he decides that Jody might give him another try. In the spoiler conversation with Drew that you're about to hear, you'll discover how the film began life as a more straight-action, Mission: Impossible-inspired stunt bonanza. You'll also hear how there was a moment where The Fall Guy was going to be a “jukebox musical” devoted to the band Kiss. We talk about how the movie fits into a lineage of films about filmmaking that runs from Singing In The Rain to Babylon; what the movie is designed to express about the replacement of practical filmmaking techniques with VFX tools; and how a near-death experience years ago, in which Drew technically died for a minute or two, gives him a different appreciation of moments like this one, on the brink of releasing one of summer 2024's most joyful, exciting blockbusters.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. #181 Oppenheimer, They Cloned Tyrone, Falling Down This week, we offer a trio of existential crises. Oppenheimer is humankind making it possible to destroy itself with a central public figure coming to terms with everything. (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) يتغلب كيس ومولي على التدخلات القانونية السيبرانية ومحاولة خيانة من ريفيرا لدمج وينترميوت مع نيورومانسر، وينتهي الأمر بكيس يعيش في عالم جديد شجاعأفلام:· Escape from New York (1981)[40][41]· Burst City (1982)[42]· Tron (1982)[43]· Blade Runner (1982)[44]· Brainstorm (1983)[45]· Videodrome (1983)[46]· Repo Man (1984)· The Terminator (1984)· Brazil (1985)· RoboCop (1987)[47]· The Running Man (1987)· Gunhed (1989)[48]· Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989)· Circuitry Man (1990)[49]· RoboCop 2 (1990)· Hardware (a.k.a. Editors - Joel Griffen and Gardner Gould SHINING VALE editors Joel Griffen and Gardner Gould teamed up with editor Antonia de Barros to craft a truly unique tv series that deftly blends comedy, fantasy and horror. Created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, SHINING VALE stars Courteney Cox, Greg Kinnear, Sherilyn Fenn, Mira Sorvino, Merrin Dungey and Judith Light. It premiered on Starz on March 6th, 2022. The plot of SHINING VALE is described thusly...a dysfunctional family moves from the city to a small town after Patricia "Pat" Phelps, a former "wild child" who became famous through writing raunchy female empowerment novels, is caught cheating on her husband. The house the family has moved into is a place where in the past, terrible atrocities have taken place. Nobody seems to suspect anything odd except for Pat who's convinced she's either depressed or possessed. Pat has been sober for 16 years, but begins to feel very unfulfilled in life – she still hasn't written her second novel, she can't remember the last time she had sex with her husband and her teenage kids have grown up to the point where they don't want their mother in their lives. Soon, the demons haunting the family's new home begin to appear much more real. JOEL GRIFFEN Editor Joel Griffen is known for his work as an editor on such shows as Leverage: Redemption (2021), Almost Paradise (2020), Krypton (2018-2019); and as an assistant editor on The Walking Dead (2014-2015), Super 8 (2011), Rango (2011), Top Chef (2007-2008) and American Idol (2007). GARDNER GOULD Gardner Gould came up in NY and LA cutting rooms under editors Tim Squyres (LIFE OF PI), and Michael Berenbaum (BEFORE NIGHT FALLS). Gould earned his first feature editing credit on DON'T BREATHE (dir. Fede Alvarez; prod. Sam Raimi), grossing over $157M. He followed this taut editorial debut with the lush and exploratory PERFECT (dir. Eddie Alvarez; e.p. Steven Soderbergh), which premiered at SXSW. The same year, drama/sci-fi/thriller HOTEL ARTEMIS (dir. Drew Pearce, prod. Marc Platt) allowed Gould to work a contained ensemble cast into a chest-sweating boil. Sony's GRUDGE reboot (dir. Nicolas Pesce; prod Sam Raimi) followed as an opportunity to re-team with Ghost House producing team to unnerve and terrify horror fans worldwide. He's now lead editor on Starz's new series SHINING VALE (creators Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan). Always on the lookout for fresh projects, he also edits for the Sundance Directors Lab. Editing Shining Vale In our discussion with the editors of SHINING VALE, we talk about: Fun with title cards To visit the set or to not visit the set...that is the question Relying on an unreliable narrator Paying homage to the classics of scary cinema Cultivating hand signals for remote collaboration The Credits Get your free 100GB of media transfer at MASV Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs Download your free trial of Avid Media Composer Ultimate Subscribe to The Rough Cut podcast and never miss an episode Visit The Rough Cut on YouTube
This week, Jeff Goldblum is part of the vast ensemble of HOTEL ARTEMIS, a low-budget sci-fi thriller and the directorial debut of IRON MAN 3 co-writer Drew Pearce! Does the insane cast that includes Jodie Foster, Dave Bautista, Sterling K. Brown, Sophia Boutella, Charlie Day, Brian Tyree Henry, Zachary Quinto and more bring this world to life? Or is this just another mixed-bag JOHN WICK knockoff? Hakuna Matata, buddy.

We start out this week by joking about some health woes? Will Chuck die from carpal-tunnel syndrome? Maybe! But don't tell him I said anything! We talk about Mark Normand's new comedy special premiering on YouTube, then Chuck talks about his hunt for a new camera and the struggles that go into it. We then discuss movies we've seen recently, including Stuber, Hotel Artemis, and Arkansas. We both watched The Invitation and talk at length about that as a thriller. Chuck drops some news about future Deadpool movies, as well as a possible Community movie. We talk about Scream 5 and our experiences with the Scream series. We close this week by talking about our attempt to beat the first three games in the "Streets of Rage" series (which came out between 1991 and 1994). Were we able to beat the notoriously difficult third game? Listen and find out! - BradMP3 Download | FB Vid

On the January 21, 2019 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor in chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film managing editor Jacob Hall, weekend editor Brad Oman, senior writer Ben Pearson, and writers Hoai-Tran Bui and Chris Evangelista to talk about what they've been up to at the Water Cooler. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). Brad attended a Mormon wedding in Utah for his girlfriend's sister and had to do so many errands and decorating, and even got a pedicure for the first time. HT went to the preview for the Battle Angel: Alita - Passport to Iron City immersive event.
