Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! Hope you enjoy this mix, loved making it. Please comment & interact with us below on any mixes that you like. Made this mix when I first bought the 1st generation Traktor Kontrol S4. Now I'm mixing on the 3rd Gen for over two years now. It was released at the end of 2018 and now it's Jun2021.This is the 2nd mix made with the Traktor Kontrol S4 (pictured top). 1st mix w/ S4 is "DIRECT DRIVE" below. Starting to get used to the basic functions of this gear. Pretty good response time on the jog wheels (but not precise when you release the jog wheel for cueing), and nothing beats the tactile feel of time-coded vinyl set-ups whether with Serato-Rane or Traktor Pro2 DJ systems. I also really like the feel of Numark's NS7, so I'd probably like the Numark V7's also since they're a grade above NS7s.Native Instruments (NI) made a good product with this Traktor Kontrol S4 midi-controller and their online support is top notch. I'm not a tech person, so had to contact them often and read 90pgs of their 235pg PDF manual. Heavy duty construction, very cool black enamel finish, rubberized EQs and EFX knobs, spacing between knobs are not too tight, and an overall larger footprint than regular controllers, which I like. Cool to have an internal soundcard that records your mix right into your computer. I can stop lugging a mini-disc player to friends' places for a while. Still be visiting my best friend and DJ partner, Jim's serato-rane-vinyl set-up. Still like that best.My main complaint about the S4 is that the pitch/tempo faders on either side & the crossfader are plasticky and too loose- not enough tension. I mean you'll get used to it eventually, but not ideal. The pitch faders also need to have a longer physical range (but I guess they think not too many old school DJs like us will use and every kid in their bedroom is just going to sync everything). And although the jog wheels have a slight magnetic weighting, it'd be cool to be able to adjust the tension. And it would be amazing to have spinning platters that are a lot bigger (at least 7inchs in diameter), but that would defeat the purpose of what they want to do in creating this product to be portable. I wouldn't use it to play a gig though. Good for making mixes at home, but still not trusting of fully digital systems for live events. CDs are a more sure bet for now.I also got tons of static system pops and clicks when attached to my laptop (Intel's dual-core2 at 1.67GHZ w/ 3gigs of RAM, 32bit Window's 7- Home Edition) and this is even after following NI's suggestions for optimizing computer for audio DJing. So now I plug into my desktop (Intel's quad-core at 2.67GHZ w/ 8gigs of RAM, 64bit Window's 7-Ultimate) and haven't had a problem since.Haven't used the sync, hot cues, sampling, looping or any of that extra stuff yet. Don't have time to finish the manual and play with those features right now. With the type of house that we spin, probably won't be doing too much of that stuff anyways, but it is fun to have options. As always - massive thanks to the amazing vocalists, producers, DJs and dancers (even in your homes or while walking about) for their incredible advancement of this beautiful musical genre!! Makes us all feel young, vibrant and extremely happy!!---------------Still having a challenge assigning the EFX boards on either top corner to any channel. Right now they are locked to one channel each side, so I can only apply three effects to each channel instead of six to either channel. I'm sure Native Instruments will help me with that. And they also gave me a BONUS Traktor Pro 2 upgrade in early april which is super cool and worth $80USD and multiple bug fixin' updates since I bought it a month or so ago (much appreciated NI!!). Very happy with this company, Native Instruments' support and quality of software/hardware is top shelf. Here's their site: http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-kontrol-s4/Hopefully this will tie me over till I can afford a real home DJ mixing system. This will be the dream set-up: Traktor Pro 2 DJ software & convertor box, Traktor control vinyls, Pioneer DJM2000 dj mixer, 2 Technics 1200s and 2 Pioneer CDJ-2000's, Traktor control CDs and kick butt JBL speakers & crazy powerful desktop computer w/ huge monitor. That would probably be around $10k, so it's still a pipe dream. Traktor Kontrol S4 is a poor man's version of a dream home DJ system at 1/10 of that cost.---------------There's a PayPal donate button on the right if you're on our main Podomatic site if you want to buy us a beer to say cheers ; )Our PayPal donation email if you are listening to our mixes on another platform. Any amount of support is welcomed. We appreciate you! dattrax@gmail.com---------------Our main mix site: https://dattrax.podomatic.com/ or at: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/dattrax or Google "dattrax" and find the Podomatic link.+ 3rd track in is "In Too Deep", which is a Phil Collins tribute bootleg by Toronto's Jason B. Happy Retirement Mr. Collins.THIS IS THE BEST OPTION: You can download the free "Podomatic" app, sign up with your email, then search 'dattrax' and subscribe to 'house music by dattrax'. It has a cute pic of my youngest boy when he was little and over my DJ mixer. BOOM!! 120+ mixes, the last 27yrs of our lives in the crack of time between family, friends and work.---------------All tracks bought from https://www.traxsource.com/ and https://www.beatport.com/This mix was created on a Native Instrument's "Traxtor Kontrol S4" controller MK3 version, a crappy PC laptop and No sync applied.
Interview : Virtual Underground: How has this all started for you? Ekin: My first experience with music started when I discovered my sister's old cassette player. She was listening to Limp Bizkit. I remember my first song was to Take a look around. Then I discovered other types of metal and started playing bass guitar. I was never into fancy solos. I always liked the idea of being the supporting pillar of the band and improved myself in every genre in bass. Even admitted to Berklee for a 5 week bass performance program. Before pandemic I was playing regularly with my band in a local metal bar called Dorock. Being the youngest member of the band and my tendency to use distortion earned me my nickname Basstard. Then in Berlin, Berghain to be precise, I was drawn to the vast world of techno and the limitless possibilities of sound design. That's when I started experimenting with my first controller. Virtual Underground: Where do you generally draw your inspiration from? Ekin: Music is how I express myself. I always felt myself full of emotions that I don't know how to let out. I had a turbulent childhood and preferred music over people. I was very good with maths and physics and could see the pattern in a song effortlessly unlike relationships. They were very complicated for me and emotions were like randomized functions that ruined every equation in my head. In my sets and compositions I try to reflect my way of seeing the world and how it's cynical, confusing and dark. Virtual Underground: Could you describe your music selection and mixing process? Ekin: I like the productions from the 2000s and 1990s. I work as an electronics engineer and while working I dive in the vast archives and select the tunes that intrigues me. I list them according to bpm and key. In this set I acted extra ruthless and selected some hard hitting tracks from C mantle, Headless horseman and Martyn Hare and tried to build a dystopian and intimidating atmosphere. Virtual Underground: Which software/hardware did you use for this set? Ekin: I used Traktor Pro 2 software and Traktor S5 controller. Virtual Underground: Could you tell us more about snatchers? Ekin: Snatchers is our İstanbul based imprint/label/collective for electronic music and more sound disciplines. It is a place for young musicians to grow and share their works founded by @omeerata. It is a non-profit organization as we say in snatchers we are in it for the music :) Virtual Underground: Any next plans? Ekin:I started learning Ableton and hopefully I will release my own tracks soon. Also I started digging records from 1990s and my ultimate goal is to expand my musical arsenal :) Follow and support Ekin @ingeniousbasstard

Virtual Underground presenting Lorenzo Papini @lorenzo_papini Interview : Virtual Underground : How has this Lorenzo Papini story started ? Lorenzo Papini : My story has started around one year and and half ago. I've always loved digging into Techno and (a bit later) Industrial Techno and I've dedicated most of my recent life on looking and listening to a lot of new music every day just as pure passion. This, alongside the various techno and (more recently) industrial techno scene in London, also helped me to build my own prospective of Industrial Techno. So at some point, also thanks to some friends who pushed me in this direction and taught me how to DJ, I felt the need to start and share with people my own idea of music. Virtual Underground : Where do you draw your inspiration from ? Lorenzo Papini : I mainly draw my inspiration from the Industrial Techno scene itself and among my favourite DJs/Producers I can surely name Axel Picodot, Paramod and OGUZ even tho it's very difficult to make a narrow selection of artists at the moment. I also follow with big interest Gabber and Hardtechno waves. Virtual Underground :Could you describe your music selection and mixing process ? Lorenzo Papini : I see my vision of Industrial Techno as a journey through the darkest and fastest side of 4/4 techno with acid, acidcore, gabber, hardtechno and hardcore influences and my music selection has based on this idea. When I record a podcast I see it as an escalation from Techno to Hardcore with a lot of different influences in between and doing so I try to offer a 360 degree vision of my sound. Virtual Underground :Which software/hardware did you use for this set ? Lorenzo Papini : I used an Allen & Heat Xone 92 mixer, an Allen & Heath Xone K2 MIDI controller and a MacBook Pro to run Traktor Pro 3.0. Virtual Underground : What are your next plans ? Lorenzo Papini : My next most important plan is surely contributing to the scene with my first releases and regarding it I have a 3 tracks EP ready to go out on January. I'm already working on new projects and my goal would be to release 8/10 tracks by the end of 2020. Looking ahead I also have other plans in mind but right now I feel all my focus need to be on producing even tho I won't stop releasing podcast as it's something I really love to do!

Native Instruments has finally made some recent announcements in regards to new hardware and software coming down the pike this year. Namely, new revisions of the Kontrol S2 and Kontrol S4 are on they way, along with Traktor Pro 3 which is said to be written "from the ground up". Traktor fans are excited to see signs of life, but there has been a larger conversation taking place for many months now. Has NI abandoned Traktor? Has it fallen off their priority list? Did they stop listening to their fans? David and Mo give their thoughts on the new announcements, and the overall problematic few years that Traktor has had. We also talk about other recent news in the DJ space, such as the announcement of the Pioneer XDJ-RR, the "not quite a recall" of the Pioneer DDJ-SX3, and the newly motorized Denon SC3000M player. This episode was a livestream experiment, and the first live show we've done since Episode 100! Follow us on YouTube for the video version, coming later this week. Wrap-Up Speech (transcript): As a long-time Traktor user, I'm excited to finally see some signs of life in the Traktor ecosystem. In fact, I had planned on creating this episode long before this past week's announcements from Native Instruments. But the question remains: will it be enough for Traktor to reclaim its spot as one of the biggest players in the DJ game? This episode is titled Wherefore Art Thou Traktor?, and I feel obligated to comment on the grammar. The word “wherefore” is not short for “where”, even though it's often misused in this way. It's actually short for, “for what reason”. In the iconic scene of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, their feuding families kept them apart. She isn't asking “Where are you, Romeo”... she's asking “Why are you Romeo? Why, oh why, did I have to fall in love with Romeo?” Indeed I've had similar feelings about Traktor, lately. I don't mean to be overdramatic, but as a longtime user… I find myself asking “Why did I have to fall in love with Traktor?” Because for a while, it looked like Native Instruments was going to leave me standing with a knife in my hand. How long would they back-burner it? Is Traktor going by the wayside? The other big software packages were adding feature after feature, while Traktor itself stood still. Many users have already jumped ship, in favor of Serato or Rekordbox or some other platform… and don't get me wrong, they are all great! But Traktor was always… um, a “pioneer” in the DJ space. NI was always at the bleeding edge! It's what the nerds used! It's what you customized! It's what you got down and dirty with! But lately, it's felt a lot more like an abandoned property. We may be hearing more in the coming weeks, but for now, we still haven't heard anything about streaming integration, or standalone hardware, or other features which might be imposed by a changing industry & technological landscape. Whether Traktor will embrace these necessities is yet to be seen. I certainly hope that Native Instruments isn't paying lip service, and that they truly want to put Traktor back on their priority list. This new hardware and software is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, Native Instruments makes me start to feel loved again. We'll keep tracking the progress on this as it develops, but for now… this has been The Passionate DJ Podcast.
In this episode, I describe the pros and cons of working with Traktor Pro 2 and Traktor Scratch Pro. I also give Insight on where Native Instruments can improve in the near future.

Well we said some time ago that the next mix in the DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast would be from one of the many talented female DJs in Washington DC, and we've been waiting patiently for one of the ladies to step up to the plate. We're pleased to bring you this great mix from DJ Meegs, a familiar face on the DC underground scene. Over to Meegs to tell us a bit about herself and her mix: "Growing up in a large, loud & musically inclined Irish-American family I guess you could say my interests have revolved around social gatherings fueled by music & dancing since birth. My parents enrolled me in Irish dancing when I was four & shortly thereafter we began hosting weekly Irish music lessons at our house for over a decade. My first instruments were the tin whistle & the bodhran (Irish drum) so I danced & played competitively while performing up & down the East Coast until college when, finally and gratefully, I was introduced to electronic music. After graduation I moved to the West Coast (LA) where, alas, I heard the sweet, sweet sounds of Deep House music. I became a local fixture at Marques Wyatt's 'DEEP' parties & since then my love affair with deep, soulful, melodic music with thumping bass lines has been one of the few constants in my life. Over the next 10 years I submerged myself in the scene as a dancer, promoter, percussionist, event producer & after Burning Man 2006, a DJ. After leaving LA I spent a year in New Zealand hosting a show on Radio Ponsonby before coming home to DC. These last couple of years have brought about a lot of great change or evolution in the music industry from the type of technological gear that is available, to the fusion & birth of new genres. I try to embrace the technology which has done me well considering I was hard-pressed differentiating an RCA cable with an extension chord when I first considered becoming a DJ! And of course my "record bag" consists of more than just the deep, soulful, tribal house that initially had me smitten. However, tracks with a driving beat, walking bass-lines, melody and lyrics with emotional content that THUMP will always get heavy rotation, as you will hear in this mix. As a recent convert to Traktor which offers a seemingly limitless amount of options for getting creative with the music, I used Traktor Pro 2 software, Kontrol Z1 w/a built-in soundcard for my mixer, Kontrol X1 for sound FX & loops, 2 standard decks & 2 remix decks. Most of the mix incorporates all 4 decks, It ain't perfect, but it sure is fun!! Hope you enjoy!" INTERVIEW > www.inverted-audio.com/sawlin-subjected Sawlin and Subjected are a production duo from Berlin. Since meeting in 2006 courtesy of fellow producer Mørbeck, they have released definitive techno 12"s on Subjected's self-run imprint Vault Series. As a solo producer Sawlin has also released music on Delsin's sub label Ann Aimee and French label Technorama. With such a strong heritage and stable of releases we caught up with the duo to discuss their affair with techno and reasons for starting up their own record label. The mix was recorded at Subjected's studio in Berlin and is 100% live. Sawlin used Ableton, an APC and an iPad, whilst Subjected used Traktor Pro with a Native Instruments Maschine to generate something completely new for us.

dattrax: Just bought about 25 new tracks from www.stompy.com and www.traxsource.com + a few older tracks and then banged out this mix. 3rd track in is "In Too Deep", which is a brand new Phil Collins tribute bootleg by Toronto's Jason B. Happy Retirement Mr. Collins. Hope you enjoy this mix, loved making it. Please comment & interact with us below on any mixes that you like. This is the 2nd mix made with the Traktor Kontrol S4 (pictured top). I also really like the feel of Numark's NS7, so I'd probably like the Numark V7's also since they're a grade above NS7s. Native Instruments (NI) made a good product with this Traktor Kontrol S4 midi-controller and their online support is top notch. Still like that best. My main complaint about the S4 is that the pitch/tempo faders on either side & the crossfader are plasticky and too loose- not enough tension. CDs are a more sure bet for now. I also got tons of static system pops and clicks when attached to my laptop (Intel's dual-core2 at 1.67GHZ w/ 3gigs of RAM, 32bit Window's 7- Home Edition) and this is even after following NI's suggestions for optimizing computer for audio DJing. So now I plug into my desktop (Intel's quad-core at 2.67GHZ w/ 8gigs of RAM, 64bit Window's 7-Ultimate) and haven't had a problem since. Haven't used the sync, hot cues, sampling, looping or any of that extra stuff yet. Don't have time to finish the manual and play with those features right now. With the type of house that we spin, probably won't be doing too much of that stuff anyways, but it is fun to have options. Still having a challenge assigning the EFX boards on either top corner to any channel. Here's their site: http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-kontrol-s4/ Hopefully this will tie me over till I can afford a real home DJ mixing system. Traktor Kontrol S4 is a poor man's version of a dream home DJ system at 1/10 of that cost. BTW... if you enjoy this mix, then why don't you buy us a beer? There's a PayPal DONATE button on the top right side of this website. For Toronto or Global bookings: dattrax@gmail.com

It’s time for another collection of toetapping, headnodding nonsense! This is the first one I’ve recorded on Traktor Pro, as opposed to Traktor 3, too. Oh, and there’s a hidden message within the first two minutes… there’s a present in there for anyone who figures it out! But enough about that, get your noisemaker … Continue reading "Session 015" The post Session 015 appeared first on Unadopted Podcast.
