Anytime you have a federal program, this is the weirdest thing, but it's not. It's not weird, it's weird, but it's not. 03:12 Every federal program is rife with fraud. Every single one of them. I don't care what it is. Somebody is out there trying to game the system. We saw that in Minnesota. We saw that with the Somali community. 03:34 um with their autism fraud and their home health care fraud and their learning center fraud. We got fraud up in North Carolina. Now we got fraud here in South Carolina. 03:48 I was shocked when I found out, listen to this, this is gonna blow your mind. 30%, 30 % of all of the hospice and home healthcare companies in the United States, 30 % of them are in LA County. 04:10 30%. So they were like, hey, wait a minute, hold on. Let's kind of find out what's going on here. And a lot is going on. 04:21 18 % of the entire country's home health care billing is coming out of Los Angeles. One doctor billed the government $120 million in a single year claiming to oversee 1,900 patients. 04:38 Los Angeles County has over 2000 hospice agencies. That's more than 36 states combined. And now finally it is so big that the mainstream media they're having to pay attention to it. 69 year old Doctor Lynn Ioni was according to Medicare records dying in hospice care two years ago, something she discovered when she sought physical therapy for a pickleball injury. And I said what? What are you talking about? 05:08 Ioni's Medicare number had been stolen and used by a company to enroll her in hospice care, which she obviously didn't need. Just to think you're literally without coverage because of some ridiculous fraudulent thing. A CBS News investigation found an industry ripe for fraud, especially in California. Companies accused of over billing. Real patients denied care. ...

We're back in the New Year with our first regular episode! We haven't done a paranormal show in a little while, and we've always wanted to talk about some of the mysterious ghost stories on our home of little Tybee Island (which is just outside of Savannah). Years after burning out from competitive running, a former running store manager gutted through 277.2 miles in 4+ days to complete the solo Run Across Georgia, from Tybee Island to Columbus (where she lives). She takes us through the ins and outs of that immense challenge on this "Run The Race" episode, along with what she did about burnout and divorce after being a fast cross country runner in college...helping other runners...and connections with the community, the outdoors. (3:16) Cheyenne Greenside, a Washington state native, thought "Why Not?" with the epic Run Across GA, seeing fellow runners in Columbus do it. (8:00) She talks about the training and planning before the race, lots of miles and staying positive, one leg of the race at a time. She had goals for how much to run/walk each day of the event, and how much sleep (hint: it was less than 3 hours per night). What were her favorite foods? You may be surprised what she wanted on sandwiches. (17:13) In challenges, we all need tenacity! What did she do when she was exhausted, feeling broken? One breaking point for her was at mile 140, when she was panicked and sobbing, but her crew/family got her going again. There were challenges like unknown roads, horrible humidity , tendinitis, and painful chafing! Ouch. (25:25) Cheyenne also talks about those closing miles of "Run Across Georgia" and what it was like at the finish line, with so much support from cheering friends. (34:28) One of her passions is inspiring, teaching, encouraging fellow runners. She still works part-time at Big Dog Fleet Feet, where she used to be manager, continuing to push the importance of good running shoes. Worth the cost? (42:50) Going back to her days of running HS track in WA and XC at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, she tried to run faster and faster. Running became more like a job, leading her to finding new purpose through a Trans-con relay (San Francisco to NYC) to raise money for cancer, then burnout again. She has advice for when you get tired of the sport or hobby you do a lot: let it go. Cheyenne explains a little more. Running also helps with mental health. It did for her during a divorce, and she's got the tattoo for that too. She feels most at home and peace while running, loves being outdoors. (53:56) We talk about her future running goals, like a faster 50K and a few 100 milers coming soon, pushing her body to more breaking points and overcoming, like she did at Run Across Georgia. Some people may not think of law enforcement and fitness together, but that may be a misconception as our guest on the pod this week is one example of a police officer that's in good shape. Now, he and coworkers are about to do a relay run across the state of Georgia – which he talks about on this episode! We also discuss why he started and has continued running (even through injury)…how health and fitness can be a big part of our family and legacy…what he learned from the Army, CrossFit…and his Christian faith through dangers on the force. Dan Lyon has been on the Columbus GA police force for 21 years, ran his first and only full marathon 14 years ago about a decade after being in the US Army. Dan talks first about police, fitness and donuts – how thoese things impact their ability to do their job like chasing suspects. Now, he and 7 fellow CPD officers are doing Run Across GA, which is 277 miles from Tybee Island to Columbus over 2 days on Memorial Day Weekend. He talks about the logistics like living out of a van, running amidst the heat and hills, why they're doing it and why it's fun. Note: he's had a torn ACL for 4 years – but still runs and does CrossFit regularly, just not other sports. (13:34) During his 4 years in the Army, Dan dives into what he did as a guidon carrier, what he learned from the military about being on time, fitness and more. (16:56) What are the pros and cons now of his dangerous job as a police officer? He and the guys will also rep their police force while running across GA with the team name “Got 1 Running” – which refers to a term used on their jobs. He's bonded with his daughter, now 23, through running races together. (21:37) And he tells the story about getting into running, decades ago, thanks to his sister who had not played sports. Now, he hopes to inspire other officers to run or get in shape or at least to stop drinking sodas. Dan stays away from sugar…but why?
