We're back in the New Year with our first regular episode! We haven't done a paranormal show in a little while, and we've always wanted to talk about some of the mysterious ghost stories on our home of little Tybee Island (which is just outside of Savannah). We have several stories we'll be releasing throughout several episodes, but for our first in the series, we wanted to talk about one that really hit home. And we're serious about home, because this story is about our very own ghost. Several years ago we came into possession of a life preserver that was used on a tug boat in Savannah, from a ship previously known as “Cynthia.” It seems that this item has a tag along visitor who seems to reside at our house. On What We're Watching we talk about the 2023 Netflix show “Squid Game 2.” On Layla and Coffee Talk, we cover the girl's Christmas experience and Coffee's issue with the bed.. 10 Hours | Rough ocean waves crash against the beach in Tybee Island, GA, as the wind blows heavily across the top of the sea foam. The Atlantic is powerful, and today is no exception. Listen to the music of nature: Waves crashing against the shore like a roaring crowd at a stadium or concert. Let this natural white noise drown out your surroundings and send you to sleep. - - -
Years after burning out from competitive running, a former running store manager gutted through 277.2 miles in 4+ days to complete the solo Run Across Georgia, from Tybee Island to Columbus (where she lives). She takes us through the ins and outs of that immense challenge on this "Run The Race" episode, along with what she did about burnout and divorce after being a fast cross country runner in college...helping other runners...and connections with the community, the outdoors. (3:16) Cheyenne Greenside, a Washington state native, thought "Why Not?" with the epic Run Across GA, seeing fellow runners in Columbus do it. (8:00) She talks about the training and planning before the race, lots of miles and staying positive, one leg of the race at a time. She had goals for how much to run/walk each day of the event, and how much sleep (hint: it was less than 3 hours per night). What were her favorite foods? You may be surprised what she wanted on sandwiches. (17:13) In challenges, we all need tenacity! What did she do when she was exhausted, feeling broken? One breaking point for her was at mile 140, when she was panicked and sobbing, but her crew/family got her going again. There were challenges like unknown roads, horrible humidity , tendinitis, and painful chafing! Ouch. (25:25) Cheyenne also talks about those closing miles of "Run Across Georgia" and what it was like at the finish line, with so much support from cheering friends. (34:28) One of her passions is inspiring, teaching, encouraging fellow runners. She still works part-time at Big Dog Fleet Feet, where she used to be manager, continuing to push the importance of good running shoes. Worth the cost? (42:50) Going back to her days of running HS track in WA and XC at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, she tried to run faster and faster. Running became more like a job, leading her to finding new purpose through a Trans-con relay (San Francisco to NYC) to raise money for cancer, then burnout again. She has advice for when you get tired of the sport or hobby you do a lot: let it go. Cheyenne explains a little more. Running also helps with mental health. It did for her during a divorce, and she's got the tattoo for that too. She feels most at home and peace while running, loves being outdoors. (53:56) We talk about her future running goals, like a faster 50K and a few 100 milers coming soon, pushing her body to more breaking points and overcoming, like she did at Run Across Georgia. (59:50) I close the episode with a prayer. Thanks for listening to the #RunTheRace podcast, which I hope you'll subscribe to! Share it with your friends. Also, write a quick review about it, on Apple podcasts. For more info and listen to any previous episodes, go to www.wtvm.com/podcast/.

Season 3 Part 15 of the Travels With Randy podcast is here! The Carolina Coast. After last week's fun Atlanta Braves adventure, Randy then drove back out to the coast and spent the week making his way north up the coast of Georgia into South Carolina and up the SC coast and finally arrived in Wilmington, NC to set up camp for the next week. Early in the week Randy visited Cumberland Island to see the wild horses and the ruins of a giant Carnegie mansion that was over 100 years old. He then headed up to Savannah and toured the city and headed out to Tybee Island for a visit. From there it was a sprint up to Myrtle Beach and then into North Carolina to Southport. Snuffy then got to ride on a ferry over to Fort Fischer as Randy visited the aquarium there (Sharks! Seahorses!), then landed up in Wilmington. Next up: The Outer Banks. All links - Linktr.ee/barbarafaison 2024 - Week 18 - Beach Day Trip Destin FL is one of my favorite places to go to the beach. The blue water from the Gulf of Mexico can be mistaken for beaches from other countries. I remember when I had pictures of Puerto Rico and Destin in my camera roll and I couldn't tell them apart. 2019 was the last time I was at the beach, we were in Panama City, FL. It had been wayyy toooo long. I missed hearing the waves of the ocean and feeling the wind caress my skin. When I found myself being irritated more than usual, I knew what it was. My body was calling me to the beach. I needed to be near the water. I suggested to my husband, TD, that we take a day trip to Savannah to go to Tybee Island. Bonus: We have never been, so we got to do something new, a twofer. lol The drive from our house was less than four hours and it was a lovely Saturday to be on the road. I could feel my body getting ready to be near the water as we got closer to our destination. I have learned that my body gives me clues all th e time, when I'm paying attention. My shoulders started to relax as did my face. I was smiling for no reason at all. lol When we arrived the wind was brisk and it was sunny. The temperature was too cool for me to get in the water. I was near the water and that was just right. Beach baby. Beach baby. We settled into our room then went to the beach to do what I call deep beach sitting. It's my version of just being with nothing to do but people watch and enjoy being on the beach. No book. No music. Just the beach chair and the wind and the sound of the waves. Watching the families play and listening to the waves crashing helped me continue to relax. There was a family with a mom and three children near us. We chatted with them and enjoyed watching them bury one of the boys in the sand. Later for dinner we ate outside (it was very breezy and cold) at a local restaurant. Sunday morning we walked to a local healthy restaurant across the street. The couple next to us was from Atlanta and we laughed as their waitress mentioned she was coming to Atlanta on vacation. TD asked if we lived on or near the beach would we go someplace like Atlanta on vacation? I said, yes, because to go on vacation is to go somewhere different. We walked to the pier and watched people fish and take pictures. The group of birds flying in and out onto the roof of the pier was fascinating. I recorded a breath break from the pier, you can find it on my YouTube channel under videos it's called a Mindfulness Practice - https://youtu.be/bYYMbxoCXxE?si=AkubhCV9vLrbYSl4 Walking along the beach and being near the water was just what my body needed. I loved creating memories I can reflect on that make me smile. Our day trip to Tybee Island was what we both needed. When was the last time you took a day trip somewhere? Where did you go? Some people may not think of law enforcement and fitness together, but that may be a misconception as our guest on the pod this week is one example of a police officer that's in good shape. Now, he and coworkers are about to do a relay run across the state of Georgia – which he talks about on this episode! We also discuss why he started and has continued running (even through injury)…how health and fitness can be a big part of our family and legacy…what he learned from the Army, CrossFit…and his Christian faith through dangers on the force. Make sure to subscribe to this “Run The Race” podcast. (2:37) Sgt. Dan Lyon has been on the Columbus GA police force for 21 years, ran his first and only full marathon 14 years ago about a decade after being in the US Army. Dan talks first about police, fitness and donuts – how thoese things impact their ability to do their job like chasing suspects. Now, he and 7 fellow CPD officers are doing Run Across GA, which is 277 miles from Tybee Island to Columbus over 2 days on Memorial Day Weekend. He talks about the logistics like living out of a van, running amidst the heat and hills, why they're doing it and why it's fun. Note: he's had a torn ACL for 4 years – but still runs and does CrossFit regularly, just not other sports. (13:34) During his 4 years in the Army, Dan dives into what he did as a guidon carrier, what he learned from the military about being on time, fitness and more. (16:56) What are the pros and cons now of his dangerous job as a police officer? He and the guys will also rep their police force while running across GA with the team name “Got 1 Running” – which refers to a term used on their jobs. Here's their page: https://www.classy.org/team/572806. This husband and dad (19:12) also has advice for parents about being active with your children and family. He's bonded with his daughter, now 23, through running races together. (21:37) And he tells the story about getting into running, decades ago, thanks to his sister who had not played sports. Now, he hopes to inspire other officers to run or get in shape or at least to stop drinking sodas. Dan stays away from sugar…but why? (27:22) We also talk briefly about how his Christian faith fits into his job and the dangers he faces and the gratefulness of citizens…then close out chat with more on the causes that they're raising money for through Run Across Georgia: MercyMed of Columbus and House of Heroes. Here's where you can learn more and donate: https://www.classy.org/campaign/run-across-georgia-fundraising/c568793. (32:54) We also have flashbacks to previous podcast episodes #111 and #163 with people who did the SOLO Run Across Georgia in 2022 and '23, Sasuhia Hathaway and Kevin Schied. Take a listen to what they went through. (48:27) After a few of my thoughts on latest Masters winner and #1 golfer in the world Scottie Scheffler being courageously outspoken about Jesus, I close the pod in prayer. Meet Cameron Weeks — a former coast guard rescue swimmer turned hospitality entrepreneur. From a young age, Cameron dreamed of owning his own business — he used to listen to audio books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad with his father in the car when he was in elementary school. After high school, Cameron enlisted in the coast guard and became a rescue swimmer — yes, like one of those guys who jump out of helicopters to save people stranded in the middle of the ocean. In this conversation, Cameron shares his story of leaving the coast guard to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams, how he grew his short-term rental co-hosting business on Tybee Island from $0 - $1.3 million in 12 months, and what he's learned about the value of building a boutique management company in a vacation destination. When Philip and I escaped to Tybee Island, little did we know that our new condo's acoustics would become the backdrop for a heart-to-heart on marriage that's as real as it gets. It's not every day you find two lovebirds willing to spill the beans on keeping the fires burning after 18 years, but here we are—juggling humor, honesty, and a dash of warrior spirit. Join us as we wander through the winding paths of partnership, from the profound to the practical (yes, even dishwasher loading strategies make the cut), and how we're tackling the Four Laws of Love with two feet firmly on the ground.Step into our living room as Philip unpacks insights from his men's group about the trials of marriage and divorce, while I reflect on the steps we've taken to ensure our relationship remains the main event, kids notwithstanding. We're talking full transparency here—the deep dives into communication, the perils of 'agreeing to disagree,' and those pivotal vulnerabilities that turn trust from a buzzword into the bedrock of our bond. And for those wondering about the longevity of love, we share our secrets to dodging the infidelity bullet and keeping the connection as exhilarating as a first date. So, what's the takeaway from two nearly-two-decade veterans of matrimony, you ask? It's the art of prioritizing one another, the importance of shared happy places (couple's vacations for the win!), and the transformative power of facing conflicts head-on, no holds barred. Tune in for an episode that's less about presenting a flawless love story and more about the grit and grace it takes to carve out a fulfilling journey, together.Go to my website virago247.net for all things Virago 24/7You can email me at virago247podcast@gmail.comInstagram: virago24_7Facebook: Virago 24/7Thanks for listening and don't forget to share, share, share!
