segment of travel tips thank you for having us again it's great to be here so for those who haven't heard the first part part one Mike and Chelsea from the viager feeling on YouTube and Instagram talked about just got brutally honest with some of the realities of travel vlogging and pursuing YouTube full-time and it's a great episode for someone to listen to who wants to get into that they want to travel YouTube kind of turn that into a passion and a hobby and an income stream um and they just talked about their travels all over Europe in some of the beautiful places they've been to so Mike and Chelsea travel tips we're talking about one destination so what destination are we talking about today so we are going to be talking about Wilshire it's the area that we grew up when we when we were younger and we come back when we come back to England so yeah it's got a lot of mystery around it so yeah well sure awesome now what made you want to talk about this destination today I think it's because not a lot of people really know about it do they like when you think of England you think of London and some of the the bigger cities and not many people really know about Wilshire and know about the the history of it sure now welshire is a great place for someone who likes what type of activities definitely being outside yeah yeah it's a lot of farmland and um there's a lot of nature involved in Wilshire it's in the south of England um and it's there's a lot of history as well and a lot of uh like mystery towards it especially if it's something like like a myth there's a lot of myths and if you like to know about myths or follow myths or uh get lost in the stories behind each of the places it's definitely a area to go to and also there's a lot of really old English Cottages uh in the CWS and um for a lot of the rest of the world they don't get to see this type of architect and it's really just Old English uh history with that cages and stone buildings and it's really beautiful isn't it yeah yeah sounds like a beautiful place and you know it's got a ton of different things for no matter what your interest level is so for someone to get the full experience of this destination how long would you say they should take to stay there um I would probably say a good full week um so each of the activities doesn't take too long um so yeah probably a good week and then if they want to see the rest of England yeah I think that would be okay yeah it's not a big place where you have to travel long distances to to each place so yeah oh very good and now as far as you know we know we need to spend a week there but what season are we going definitely summer definitely summer um England rains a lot um and there's not a lot of act indoor activities to do so to see these uh mystical places would definitely be in the summertime so probably between June and September would be the best okay very good now obviously you know for someone like us who's um in the states we if we were going to go we would be flying so we wouldn't take our dog however if someone's a little bit closer to this area is it kid-friendly dog friendly what do you see when you're there um yeah so it definely it's dog friendly definitely just keeping the dogs on the lead um yeah there's so many different walks that you can take there's in the summer there's poppy field um the kids would love it as well just because it's something completely different yeah there's not so many indoor activities to do is there no um yeah it's beautiful place to be in in nature and a lot of the farmers they make like Wild Flower um Fields uh like say poppy fields they make rape seed Fields so all the fields are bright yellow yes it's a beautiful place to to visit and definitely see from the sky as well oh very cool now as far as getting there so how are we going to be working around Transportation do we need cars how do you fly in what advice would you have for someone that's trying to plan a trip here I think if you're flying from uh if you're out of England definitely flying into to London one of the uh airports in London and there England's quite good for transportation so you could either get the train to one of the local towns but I personally would probably hire a car from one of the airports it's a huge farm farm place so from each destination um it's it would take uh about two hours each uh to drive so it's that a lot of it's not in walking distance so hiring a car will probably beneficial and because the the destinations that we're going to talk about um because they're not some some of them are not in towns or cities uh if you was to hire a taxi it's going to take quite a long time for the taxi to get to you or an Uber to get to you to take you to the next place anyway so yeah probably hiring car would be your best option if you could if you could hire a car yeah just getting through some of the language barriers hiring a car is that renting a car as opposed to like hiring a taxi or Uber driver uh yes okay sounds like that'd be more cost efficient to to rent a car in in our terms as opposed to drive having someone drive you two hours back and forth to where you're going glad we cleared that up now you guys have your motor home Luna do you camp when you're in this area is there lodging are can you find a house on Airbnb to stay in um there are a lot of places especially in the cwoods a little bit more expensive but they're absolutely beautiful little farm houses for us motor home wise we do struggle a little bit because it is farmland and because England has smaller roads and smaller layb but we we do get by don't we we there's no I wouldn't say there's any official campsites um yeah if there was there would probably be one yeah in Wilshire and the problem is with campsites here they're just pretty much grass and having a bigger vehicle when it rains a lot and then us trying to get off when it's muddy it's it's quite hard so we do try to use a an app park for night I don't know if you have that in America um and it tells you where other people have stayed and if they've had a problem or if it's been perfect if there's local water there to fill up so there are a few places but it's not as accessible as Wales or or Scotland or you will find some beautiful places to stay in um you'll find um cottages and airbnbs uh there'll be the odd Hotel um there's also a website called uh canopy and stars yeah and they advertise uh quirky stays um places like uh tree houses you can stay in for a night and yeah kind of kind of quirky stays where you wouldn't normally stay so yeah so there are places cool and we'll link what you the app you mentioned in the show notes below it sounds like it's similar to eye Overlander and the dirt we have over here in the states do you have Harvest host over there we've heard of it a few times but I actually don't think we have it in England really it sounds like with the Farms you're describing it' be a good opportunity for that because a lot of it is farms and wineries breweries that offer their land for people to stay at with the exchange of you just buying some of their product yeah we have that with a lot of pubs so if you uh or restaurants if you buy a meal you can stay in the car park but I think that works a lot better for um small converted Vans because everything in England is probably four or five times smaller than than America so our car parks are very very small and we take up four or five spaces so for us we we don't really do that but I know if you have a small little van you can go in have a pub meal and they'll let you stay in the car park for for free oh that's a good tip that is similar to you know if you have a harvest host membership um on the States you go have a drink at you know their Brewery and then you get to stay in in their parking lot which is nice so speaking of that we know that you know it's a very outdoorsy area it's beautiful for hiking and scenery and history but what about at night what about when that sun goes down what do you guys guys like to do in the town there's not much to do it's a big yeah like a big agricultural place there are um pubs to go to and in some of the towns you have bowling alleys and um like the cinema but there's not really um big places to go to I think if you go just outside of Wiltshire you've got Bristol and Oxford they have big gigs that they put on with with famous people and each one is only about an hour away and they have what you would normally have like aquariums and zoos and and Bristol has a lot of um has a lot of art doesn't it it's very well known for its art and being a bit more free so maybe if you did visit Wiltshire to make sure you go to Oxford that has a lot of history um Bristol has a lot of creative people and they do a lot of street art um on the sides of buildings and they're known for their graffiti graffiti kind of art uh but mainly it's like big murals of pictures proper pictures made by spray spray paints and stuff like that yeah and then yeah and then London is only an hour away from us so um yeah they have they have big big night life there yeah and I think that's a really good point is London's Orly an hour array and a lot of people will go to London and then think okay well I'm going to catch a flight or a train to another country or to somewhere else but you know if you're going to London you could actually drive that you know hour or two hours like you said and there's a lot to do in the Wilshire the Oxford area and especially for someone who likes history you know maybe doesn't want crazy night life which I think it you know our age none of us want overly especially if we are those nature enthusiasts but tons of stuff that you can do um even just extend your trip from London it sounds like yeah yeah and I I've I mean traveling other countries we've always noticed coming out of um like Capital Cities uh and going to other rural areas you get to see the the true side of the country and the the real people that live there as well yeah yeah and I think that's important too is you know feeling part of that culture and getting to experience not just those those highlights that everybody goes to see but you know come into the smaller towns and you know buy things from the locals and you know just enjoy that experience yeah yeah I'm glad you talked about all that because when I think England I think Big Ben London and rain so it sounds like I was half right because it is still pretty rainy over there but there is a lot of Scenic you know nature there's art culture things to do how far away is Stonehenge so Stonehenge is actually uh in in Wilshire and from from where we are right now maybe 45 minutes Drive yeah yeah again it's almost in the middle of nowhere yeah loads of farmlands surrounding it um yeah it's definitely worth the visit isn't it yeah but maybe try to pick a day that's not the weekend because it does get very very busy yeah I can imagine obvious you guys have been there many many times living So Close by how big are those rocks like you look at some photos and they look huge are they bigger than you expect when you walk up to them for me they are but I'm very small yeah they're they're very big yeah it does make you wonder how they lifted these things and got them over into that position yeah they're huge I have to ask a native's opinion was it aliens and whoever put them there got there somehow I mean we we once had a a king a long time ago Henry VII that actually was against um certain things and he wanted certain religions to be his way he actually collapsed all of Stonehenge and tried to bury it and then when he passed they rebuilt it again so I don't know whether it's actually in the same format as how it started out to be um but there's probably been a lot of changes happen in that area due to history yeah it is interesting for sure yeah well speaking of you know that and in the beginning you mentioned there's a lot of myths so if anyone likes myths this is a good place for them anything you want to note today so there's and they don't know why the farmers do this so there's a lot of things that go on about crop circles here as well and there's a farmer down the road that um makes his own crop circles I don't know how he does it something with his tractor and it attracts a lot of people um just to come and look at it really but there is a different feeling about um Asbury it's very and it's a kind of a mini Stone Henge it does have a very calming feeling and um it's all meant to be kind of funu the way that the stones are put and it's meant to bring a healing energy but yeah there is something very fing about that area yeah there's loads of different myths yeah so there's load I can go on and on yeah we've got loads of uh um chalk horses uh sorry um yeah chalk horses on the side of Hills um and these some of them were built uh over 4,000 years ago and there's myths like if you stand on the head of the horse and spin 10 times it's meant to give you good luck and stuff like this yeah it's quite interesting uh we keep these things restored um and you know miles from the distance you can see these uh massive chalk horses on side of hills and there's I think there's 10 in total yeah in Wilshire I think the first one they don't know how it was made and then towards the end like the eth ninth and 10th one they they were put in by us um maybe 50 to 100 years ago yeah it's it's something you don't really get to see very often it's quite yeah it's quite nice very cool we kind of have that like we're in Mystic Connecticut which is a pretty historic town so we have you know there's history there's weird fires that happen going with that kind of that paranormal alien theme do they have like ghost tours like haunted places for people who like that kind of thing there uh they're all ghost hores and I don't know much about them because that's my biggest fear but um at Asbury they have it's meant to be um the most haunted Pub in England all right yeah and and you can stay there in a room overnight yeah something I would never go and try I'm learning too I don't i' never knew that very cool see that's what this is all about yeah right a little bit for everybody it sounds like awesome great we'll transition to the 321 Countdown the final three questions of the podcast and if you've listened to the travel tips segment before we're changing these up a little bit because the 321 countdown we originally started the question three was what are three things to do in or around the area but what we were finding was it was repeating a lot of what we had already talked about so it was a little anticlimactic so instead of that we're asking what are three things you need to bring on your trip to Wilshire I think the first would be an umbrella even in the summer yep yeah just in case you never know when it's going to rain yeah some some hiking boots hiking boots yeah hiking boots are Wellies yeah probably and um probably I would say a backpack as well because you're going to be outside a lot um so whatever you want to pop in sandwiches on your hike or you want to go for longer any hiking gear so a lot of outdoorsy type of things but yeah I mean it's not as convenient as being in a town in a city where you could just go to a convenience store and buy some sandwiches or whatever it may be that you eat for lunch um so yeah a backpack is quite helpful cuz you may be in the sticks as we call it for a long time backpack and have some sort of a cooler inside of it so you can keep your food fresh because you're probably going to be going a little ways little while outside of having refrigeration and going on those long hikes so yeah what are two complaints or things people should be prepared for before visiting Wilshire going back maybe to the rain it can be miserable it really can be miserable and I think particularly in in this area of England yeah it gets muddy and I think that's the the biggest complaints we have from a lot of people is is the weather unfortunately um I think maybe just trying to get around um as much as possible like we said everything's quite spread out um it's not as convenient as uh you would you would think it would be so yeah probably the weather and and transport those are good tips and it sounds like you touched on earlier doing a week out there because not only because it takes a long time to go from place to place but also the weather if you're there for a week you might get you know two three days of sunshine versus if you go for a weekend you might get drenched so if you if you're preparing and you're looking up YouTube videos and photos of wil and it's sunny and beautiful be prepared that it might not be like that when you're there all right and one last question we talked about a lot of things to do in Wilshire but what is one thing if you had to pick one thing what is the one thing you simply cannot leave Willl here without doing probably Stonehenge I think yeah yeah seeing seeing Stonehenge and I think maybe also I know it's is a little bit off subject for for the kids they have um like lamming weekends where you can go and help at a college um where they have lambs and it's it's an amazing experience for kids to go and help with the with the animals oh very cool I think I would actually like doing that too come over at Easter you can help yeah there we go perfect now just last question I really have um since you said you know when if you're going on a hike bring that backpack pack your lunch where is there any place that you guys really like to eat or to get some sandwiches from to take um I think there's this lovely place is in there to have a steak to eat uh is it La carbonara La carbonara yeah oh my God it's the best place to eat anywhere like I've never had a bad uh meal there yes yeah um as for like sandwiches and stuff there's there's loads of places isn't there yeah there we've got quite good restaurants in the UK yeah just for soundwich and stuff maybe just a con just a convenience store and I think what hope is getting at and I think what this might be it's own section its own segment in its own cuz this has been a topic conversation our past like two travel tip segments what's your favorite ice cream place oh I I don't know that's that's quite difficult in the UK because number one we don't have many ice cream places yeah yeah like there is one that's actually about 10 minutes away from us but I think that's the only one in our town it's only open between April and October we don't really have any places doing no I think we have uh the ice cream trucks that come around oh yeah we we have ice cream bands for for children well good I think those are some important things to know those are the things where am I eating and where am I having ice cream those are always things I need to know when I'm going to travel so thank you for answering those um at any um Supermarket you can pretty much get the same ice creams as what you probably get in America I I've heard uh China is the best place for ice cream I don't know how true that is I have not heard that before what we have to test that theory out apparently they got the best ice cream in the world the best ice cream I've ever had is America and uh lanzerotti an island of Spain yeah yeah yeah it is well awesome guys this is a blast to know you guys both part one and part two talking Hello PUCLonians and welcome to another edition of Anything Goes. In recent weeks, we have had more news drops for Pokemon Sun & Moon (SuMo). With all of the news drops and Pokemon that are being released, I would almost expect the whole game will be spoiled by the time the games are released. There are days I wish I wasn't as plugged into the Pokemon community as I am so I could be surprised by these developments when the game released. Despite that sentiment, I am still excited for how the most recent developments will reveal themselves in the games. In the following article, I will discuss some of the major points of the recent news dumps and then focus in on my thoughts about Ultra Beasts and the “Snap” mechanic of the game.If you haven't seen the new trailers, check out the following links on the Pokemon Channel on Youtube:New PokemonThere are a bunch of new Pokemon to comment on, briefly. So many of these have great real world inspirations! Crabrawler, a pure fighting type, is based off of a Coconut Crab. Now, some people might wonder why this isn't also a water type, being a crab, but it turns out that Coconut Crabs don't swim, so it totally makes sense. Stufful is the epitome of cute! Sandygast and Palossand are really fun concepts and it will be interesting to see what becomes of them.New FormsThe most recent Alolan forms we got were for Rattata and Raticate. Apparently, the people of Alola brought Youngoos to get rid of Rattata on the islands. This drove Rattata to a particular part of the islands and changed their habits, turning them into Dark type Pokemon. I like the mouse-tache on the Rattata but I am disappointed it didn't become more exaggerated with Raticate. Despite this, I do like the chubby cheeks that Raticate has.New Z-MovesIt was shown that some Pokemon have their own exclusive Z-moves. I don't know for sure, but it seems as though there are specific Z-crystals for these, as well. I don't think this becomes a replacement of Mega Evolution (especially with a particular piece of advertisement that has been released in Japan), but it is certainly an interesting inclusion. I am really excited to see how this shakes up competitive play for the next few years!Aether Foundation and Type: NullThe Aether Foundation looks like an interesting counter to Team Skull. They almost seem overly good and clean. I have heard some rumblings that the Aether Foundation might end up being the evil team and that Team Skull will have a change of heart 3/4 through the game.Type: NullType: Null is so interesting! It is the synthetic Pokemon made to rival the strength of legendaries. It's mask is made to hinder its agility. I can only imagine what would happen if the mask was removed. Also, notice how the mask resembles a certain other Pokemon… If you are at all interested in a super theory where “it all comes together” I highly suggest you check out Lockstin's channel. He is a video game/Poketuber with a fascinating theory about how SuMo has elements that draw from practically every other Pokemon game and how it is all related to Alchemy. His theory (playlist linked here) has 3 main videos (one of which has yet to be released as of the writing of this article) and a few small supplementary videos to the theory. The main videos definitely get a little long but they are worth the watch.Ultra BeastsWhat to make of this wonderful beast!? Is it a Pokemon? If it is, why make the distinction of an Ultra Beast? Is it legendary? Can you catch it? (I, like TCGcaster and fellow writer, Lord Jushiro, hope that you can. Gotta Catch ‘Em All!!!) There was a trailer where the protagonist and a few others watched this Pokemon emerge from a portal. And the fact that it is listed as UB-01 makes it seem as though there are more like this to come! I feel like there may be at least three other of these beast. This one seems very elegant and floaty. I feel like there may be others that are sharper or more solid in design. It also seems as though this is something different. It somehow has a grander feel than that of a typical mythical or legendary Pokemon. It's hard to describe, but I am very interested in seeing what this has to bring to the games.“Snap” is back… kindaIt was also revealed in the most recent trailer that there would be some aspect that is akin to the N64 game, Pokemon Snap. This was a fun, short game that allowed you to take pictures of Pokemon on a particular island. This was a beloved favorite with many fans of the series and sadly never got a sequel. There seemed to many opportunities to execute this concept but it never came to fruition, until now. It looks like there are some specific picture taking spots within the game where you can take pictures of local Pokemon. I hope that the Pokemon that are found at these spots are determined by the day/night cycle and that the areas may even be vacant, at times. This definitely seems like “Snap Lite” since you aren't moving and it doesn't seem as though you can effect the Pokemon at all like in the original “Snap” game, but the specifics are yet to be seen. The one thing that really got my sold on the idea is this:It's hard to see, but you know what it is. That is a wild Dragonite! You can take a picture of (and possibly catch) a wild Dragonite in this game! If the pictures you get to take are as cool as this is, I will play this part of the game to its fullest extent.What are your favorite parts of the new videos/trailers? Greetings PUCLlonians! Did you miss me?… I didn't think so… but nonetheless welcome once more to the new, improved, and hopefully more interesting BREAKing Card, where we analyze, critique and breakdown our favorite TCG news! The “news” part is new, because talking about what is hip and now is what is hip and now… right? Anyhow, since Pokémon is leaking more information than our shady politicians, we got a lot to talk about! Let's get this party started with none other than our favorite Gen 1 Grass Starter! The original party starter, Venusaur!The new “Red and Blue Collection: Venusaur  EX” is out in stores since Wednesday, July 13 for a mere penny of $24.99. While the American version comes with a Venusaur EX promo, a Venusaur figure, and four Generations boosters, the European version has the same items, but swaps out the figure for a jumbo card (sorry Fluffiest Whimsicott!). The Venusaur EX included might not be very competitive but for collectors it is one heck of a pretty card. Its first attack, Poison Powder, does 60 damage and poisons your opponent active Pokémon while its second attack, Jungle Hammer, does 90 damage and heals 30 damage from Venusaur EX. While both might sound interesting, they are way too expensive for their own good. Nevertheless this is a great collection box and you shouldn't miss out. For all of you Pokémon BREAK aficionados, the next BREAK Evolution Box is also out, this time featuring Ho-Oh and Lugia! Sitting pretty at a retail price of $24.99, this box features Ho-Oh BREAK and Wobbuffer BREAK, with a little bit a Lugia as well, a jumbo Ho-Oh BREAK promo and of course five boosters. If you enjoy these legendary birds then this deal is for you, otherwise I would skip it if you're more into the competitive side. Man, Ho-Oh can't catch a BREAK! (Get it, cause it has a BREA…. Nevermind) Next we have Genesect, that bug Pokémon that I have never been able to pronounce correctly, arriving in a new promo Metal card. A basic Pokémon with 110 HP, weakness to Fire and resistant to Psychic, carries two attacks and frankly neither are particularly good. For one Metal and one Colorless Energy, Linear Attack does 30 damage to one of your opponents Pokémon while ignoring weakness and resistance. Its second attack, Destructor Beam, does 90 damage for three Metal Energies and allows you to discard an Energy attached on the opponent's Active Pokémon if you flip heads on the coin. Competitive wise this card is garbage, but for a collector it is truly a work of art. I mean… LOOK AT IT!!!It's sooo pretty!My favorite news of the week goes to the announcement of “Pikachu & New Friends” blisters coming in November! This is our first Sun and Moon cards to be released! It will feature exclusive holo promos of Pikachu, Rowlet, Litten and Popplio! Consider this as the “lead-in” product to introduce the latest generation of Pokémon to the TCG world. If history is any indication we will see this new set arriving in stores February 2017. No matter whom your favorite Gen 7 Stater is, you can't miss out in owning the first ever printed versions of their cards!But wait, there's more! The new Metal Fairy Pokémon Magearna now makes an appearance in the TCG! This promo card has 80 HP and two attacks, but neither is worth discussing. Again this is for the true collector or metalheads (Looking at you Viger!). However two blisters were announced for Steam Siege that includes the Volcanion and shiny Gardevoir pins to collect! I know what Thatch is spending his pokedollars on! Lastly we got Yvelta BREAK, Greedy Dice and Ninja Boy confirmed for Steam Siege, which is great news however it is almost confirmed that Karen (the Night March Killer) will not make it in time for Worlds. This is especially troublesome as Pokémon Ranger did indeed make the cut making most Night March counters vulnerable to its powers. Although many are quick to assume that this means Night March is this year's Worlds Championship winner deck, I still hope to see a surprise underdog in the lead! Go Paul!! The hero we need, but apparently don't deserve…That's it for the news! Hello PUCLonians! Welcome to a very special edition of Anything Goes. This week I will be chronicling my adventures at PUCLcon and Pokemon Nationals! I am writing this as I go, so I can say that this has been an extremely exciting PUCLcon thus far.WednesdayMy journey started out pretty uneventfully, driving across the state and arriving at Scron's house. He and his family were gracious enough to host me for an evening so I didn't have to drive for like 12 hours in one day. On the trip, I listened to what else but PUCL. I started out by listening to Episode 189, which was last year's PUCLcon episode. This was a great way to get me fired up for the weekend. I followed this up with Episode 183, which was also an atypical episode, as it was a Freeform Show where Thatch, Misty, Beorn, Whimsicott, and Shamu discussed things that annoyed them, as well as many other things. These two can be found here. The tail end of this trip was finished up by listening to a bonus episode which was Broadcasters for a Cure Live show, found between Episodes 177 and 178. I would recommend listening to any of these episodes, even if you have done so already.When I arrived at Scron's house, I was pleasantly surprised to find Scron, Bocefus, Viger, and Mr. Sniffles at Scron's house, playing Pathfinder with some of their friends. It was my first time meeting other PUCL peeps in person. Very relaxed as they finished up their game and I tried to breed Pokemon for the weekend. Shortly after this, Bocefus and Mr. Sniffles went home and Viger and I went to sleep for the night.L to R: Viger, Snag, BocefusMr. SnifflesScron ThursdayBriefly after I woke up, I was sent a link from fellow writer, Locke, to the new Japanese trailer displaying the new Pokemon. Very cool to see these new pokes, even if it was in Japanese.Shortly after this, we got on the road, picked up Bocefus and Mr. Sniffles for an 8 hour drive to Columbus. There were a lot of Pokemon things going on during the ride! Viger, Bo, and Mr. Sniffles were sporadically playing their games throughout the trip. We also listened to the first episode of PUCL, which was roughly 10 minutes long, 2.5 of which were a musical intro. Classic PUCL! The part that was probably the most fun was when we played Pokemon 15 questions with a few modified rules. Every time we did this, we successfully found the Pokemon on each attempt!The Snaggin Wagon on the way to PUCLconWe made it to Columbus and I got checked into my hotel before we went over to Thatch's house. It was at this time that many people were arriving. Dr. Shamu arrived only moments before our group did. Gator was already with Thatch at this time. My 4 traveling companions were all staying with Thatch, but Viger had left a few things in my van so we went out there to get them. There was a black car parked in front of Thatch's house and I thought, “Oh, someone else must be showing up. There are many people coming right now.” And then a female stepped out of the car who looked extremely familiar to me. I asked Viger, “Is that Whimsicott!?” And at that point, we rushed up hugged her and freaked out a little bit! Viger then quickly and calmly grabbed his camera so he could record everyone else's reaction. It was fantastic to see the surprise on everyone's face. Thatch's first reaction is not appropriate for this article, but it was amazing! And shortly after that, another writer, Sublime Manic, arrived and he was completely over shadowed by Whimsicott! She arrived without telling anyone from PUCL and proved that she was truly the Prankster Whimsicott!Whimsicott even gets her own banner!Italian Flipflops!After this, we went to dinner at a really cool Asian chain that Thatch suggested we go to. Apparently, American's eat fast because we were all done eating while Whimsicott was still finishing her food and we almost left her behind. Also, we must have been a bit loud as the restaurant staff had asked us to quiet down a bit.After eating dinner, I made my way back to the hotel, where Whimsicott and Sublime were also staying. We also collected other PUCLonians, such Ten Little Men (TLM), his friend, Woddy, and R Sigma. At first, TLM didn't realize that the girl who was coming along with us Whimsicott until we started talking about how far we all had to travel. He had thought that he and Woody had traveled pretty far being from Canada, but Whimsicott pointed out that she came further. TLM asked, “Where did you come from?” and Whimsicott said, “…Italy…” and then TLM's mouth dropped and exclaimed, “You came!?” This was at least 5 minutes after we had introduced ourselves. It was another great surprise!After this, we went to Thatch's house, again. Some people prepared for tournaments that were occurring on the following day, but many of us played Smash Brother and tested out the streaming set up. Around 11 pm or midnight, we wrapped things up so people could get some rest for the first day at the convention center.FridayMy roommate, R. Sigma had to leave early to compete in the National tournament. Just for participating, he got some sweet swag pictured below.For participating in the tournament, the players got a play mat, deck box, deck sleeves, a promo card, lanyard, and Vicitini pin.Around 9 am, the rest of Team Hotel (myself, Whimsicott, TLM, Sublime, and Woody) met the rest of the group at Thatch's. We got to meet Mr. Maximus who arrived early in the morning. Before we left for the convention center, I ran to Toys R Us to get the Shamin Anniversary Plush, but there was no Shaymin. TLM cam with and got a repeat ball w/ Pikachu and Woody got a Yoshi figure, as well.We then made our way over to the convention center. The first thing we saw was a Pokemon Center store set up at the convention center. They had most of the things you would expect to see at a Pokemon Center store, but it was all on hand. Many members of our group bought a bunch of things. Woody even spent a bunch of money on a large art print of May and some of her Pokemon.The print that Woody purchased. Pretty sweet, even if it's over priced.Before we entered the main center where the even was being held, we found Jushiro and surprised him with Whimsicott and then we all got pictures with Pikachu. As we were making our way to the hall, there was a sign for the event shiny Machamp which was on the team of the Champion of the Senior's division last year. The entire PUCL crew literally stopped and went, Oh, Shiny!Most of the PUCL crew with Pikachu. Even though most of us don't get into the Pikachu hype, when else would we get the chance to have a picture with a giant Pikachu!?Friday was PUCL cosplay day. L to R: Snag as Prof. Birch, Ten Little Men as Emerald, Mr. Sniffles as a Scientist, Bocefus as a Bug Catcher, and Viger as an Original Character.After checking things out a little bit, we met up with Minor-Manectric and his wife, now deemed Mega-Manectric (or Major-Manectric) just before heading to lunch.After lunch, it was time to get down for business. I prepared for a classic RBY tournament using the Virtual Console games. I got schooled, 0-3, but it was still fun to see a few other people who really wanted to play the classic games. Other people played Battle Spot singles in 8 man pods. Not only that but PUCL took over an 8-man pod for a TCG prerelease tournament. Thatch ended up winning this, but Shamu had a great showing using the Tyranitar card that Sublime trashed in Ep. 7 of the TCGcast.Once things were winding down for the day, we all went back to Thatch's, ordered pizza had chips and a variety of drinks. To everyone's surprise, Whimsicott actually liked American pizza, even though she won't admit it!As dinner was ending, I went to my van and brought in the present that PUCL had for Thatch & Misty's Wedding. Big shout out to Basket, who draws comics for the site, and Dr. Shamu for their artistic contributions to the project (Basket drew it, and Shamu added the coloring). Also, the person who framed the picture, Adam, you're the best! They were surprised and were so grateful that our community came together to give this to them.The newlyweds holding their PUCL gift!Feraligatr and Lucario against the world!After that, we went to streaming on Twitch. We started with a little bit Smash, and a few people wanted to do TCG unboxings. The highlight of the night was our 12-man OU tournament. Spontaneously, Jushiro and I started doing commentary for Round 1. It was so much fun! But we saw Gliscor on so many teams!!! It is under a suspect test for being banned next year for sure. In the first round, Shamu beat Mr. Sniffles, Gator lost to Bocefus, Maximus overcame Thatch, Whimsicott handily defeated Woody (who was using a stellar team of pokes (they were mine)), Minor-Manectric defeated Viger, and Ten Little Men narrowly edged out R. Sigma. After those 6 matches, it was after midnight so we decided to save the rest of the tourney for the next day.PUCLcon OU TournamentSaturdayBefore we left in the morning, there was apparently a major shorts issues at Casa de Thatch, because Thatch was missing some shorts for a while, found them, but then Viger was missing shorts. I think that all go resolved though…There were a few people who had left early with Misty because there was some events they wanted to try, then a group left in what was deemed to be the Snaggin Wagon, and the Thatchmobile followed a little bit later. We were lucky enough to snag a couple of tables for our group to sit at, which is a bit of a luxury, at times.Woody and Maximus got signed up for a little cup tournament, but the set up was a bit disappointing. Several players were using banned Pokemon such as Scyther, Sneasal, and others, and the judge apparently didn't clearly know the rules, so it was a bit of a joke.We spent the day doing a variety of things. Some people drew pictures of Pokemon cards, others prepared for afternoon tournies. Mr. Sniffles participated in what was supposed to be a Red, White or Blue Monochoromatic Tournament, but most of the players didn't understand the rules and used Red, White and Blue. Despite this, he did fairly well and went 3-1 and was only one of a few people who really played by the designated rules. We also had the opportunity to meet up with Mickey from Pokemon Crossroads, who has been on the podcast before, as well as folks from the Kanto Cast, before we left for lunch.Thatch's Flying Meganium.The whole PUCLcon crew!After lunch, we took over another 8-man pod for Battle Spot Singles, where ultimately, Whimsicott beat Thatch in the finals! We also took over 8-man pods for 2 more pre-release draft tournaments for the TCG. Sublime won one of these, and Bocefus won the other. If you haven't taken the time to listen to episode 241 yet, you definitely want to do so. It was one of the highlights of the weekend, especially being able to give Jushiro a 3ds considering he has lost his earlier in the year.Thatch himself recording the episode!Snag and Jushiro modeling their awesome Pokeball robes.After recording the episode, a few people began to prepare for the final day at the convention, especially for the Triathalon, where competitors play VCG, TCG, and Pokken against each other. They worked on building decks and honing their Pokken skills. They were doing that in the living room while others finished the OU tournament, with commentary from Sublime and me.Snag and Sublime doing commentary on the final rounds of the PUCLcon OU tournament.In round 2, Whimsicott narrowly beat Maximus, in a battle of Gym Leaders, TLM handily beat Minor-Manectric, and Shamu took down Bo. With our 3 competitors, we advanced TLM directly to the finals due to him winning his matches with more Pokemon left than Shamu or Whimsicott. The reign of the mighty Whimsicott, who claims to be a “filthy casual”, came to an end when she battled Shamu. In the final, TLM beat Shamu in a great match and became the PUCLcon 2016 OU Champion.SundayNow, my recollection of what happened on Sunday is a little foggy as we stayed up really late Sunday/Monday and I didn't record my notes until Tuesday morning…Today was a little bit of a later start, but no one was bothered by that. There was nothing anyone was really trying to get to. When we got to the convention center, I stopped and got a few classic Pokemon things that I thought belonged in my collection including dogtags with Abra and Kadabra and Squirtle and Ivysaur figurines with Masterballs.Alaka-swag given to me by various people at PUCLcon. Thanks everyone, especially Viger!A few people played in some Little Cup tournaments. A few people were in various Triathalon tournaments. Most notably, Jushiro, Misty, and Scron were all in one group with one other person. There were a few gym battles happening, as well, including a 40 minute battle I had with Minor-Manectric that I lost due to a flinch near the end of the battle. (*sigh* See you on Saturday!) Over all, it was a really mellow day. I think we were all really tired and the event in general was really sparse compared to Saturday. We weren't even all that interested in the Finals of any of the main tournaments. Late in the afternoon, we made our way back to Thatch's house, but not before losing 2 of our members, Gator and R. Sigma as they had to make their way back home.Bo made it on the Official Pokemon Twitter! Catch those bugs!Before getting Thatch's, though, we bought some t-shirts to screen print some exclusive PUCLcon shirts (just in coloring, there weren't any printed with PUCLcon on it or anything). There were a few people who also wanted to go to Walmart and get some booster packs. I felt like such an enabler… I know how bad a TCG addiction can be and I encouraged others to feed that addiction. Sigma, MistyFor the rest of the night, we kind of put Pokemon on hold and just enjoyed each other's company. Some of us played Cards Against Humanity while others worked on screen printing shirts. Thatch really enjoyed printing the shirts as that allowed him the time to just talk with people for a while. We did this into the wee hours of he morning as I think we all wanted to squeeze every last moment out of this time together. Ultimately, Team Hotel had to go back to the hotel and we had to say good byes to several people, including the Manectrics. Shortly after this, at the hotel, it was at this time I had to say good bye to Whimsicott, TLM, and Woody as I would be leaving in only a few hours later.MondayI left my hotel with Sublime around 7 am, as he had to go to Thatch's to be driven to the airport. At this time, we said another round of goodbyes to Shamu, Maximus, Jushiro, Sublime, and Thatchs (and probably others). Most people were making their way home on this day.As we drove, I tried to rest as best as I could. It was a quiet ride as many of us were exhausted and used this time as a bit of a Pokemon detox. Before I knew it, we were back in the home town of my driving mates. We dropped off Viger, then Scron, and finally Bocefus and Mr. Sniffles. And then I was by myself. I had a 4 hour drive to think on the weekend and start to miss the great friends that I had only known from afar but had the wonderful privilege of being in their presence for a few short days. Thatch said it best by mentioning before this, we were online friends, but now we're friends who keep up online.When I got home, I was welcome by my wife and kids who hadn't seem me for 5 days. I was so excited to share the memories I brought home with them as we watched the Independence day fireworks. I must have left a good impression because Mrs. Snag is talking about going to PUCLcon next year!As I am writing this article people are still finding their way home from PUCLcon. I think TLM and Woody are still on their way to Canada and Whimsicott just boarded her flight off of this continent. There was something magical and amazing about this weekend. PUCLcon 2016 was a true testament of what the PUCL community is: warm, welcoming, fun, family. I am proud to be friends with these people and and I am proud to be part of this awesome community.
