What's in a name? Quite a lot, according to Amy Ephron, Maia Wapnick and Anna Ephron Harari, co-authors of The Amazing Baby Name Book: A (Possibly) Helpful and Slightly Amusing Guide from A to Z, a witty and wise and altogether wonderful compendium of baby names for would-be parents. And when that name is Ephron, and it comes attached to a writing family that's lived by its wits and wisdom and abundant sense of wonder for three generations…well, then that name signals that our podcast listeners are in for a rollicking conversation about writing and storytelling. Join us as we visit with Amy, Maia, and Anna to discuss how their mother-daughter(s) collaboration came about, and what it was like to grow up in a household where the written word was something to nourish and celebrate. Then stay with us as we continue the conversation with Amy, as she reflects on her childhood, as the daughter of successful screenwriters Phoebe and Henry Ephron, and younger sister to the writers Nora, Delia, and Hallie, and on her own eclectic career as a novelist, screenwriter, journalist and film producer. “When you're a writer you put yourself out there,” notes Amy, author of several books, including the novels A Cup of Tea, Bruised Fruit, and The Other Side series of novels for children, and a longtime contributor to Vanity Fair, Vogue, The New York Times, and Air Mail. “People who have other jobs don't necessarily understand what that means, that in a way you're selling your own voice, you're selling your own vision. And I don't mean to make it more than it is, it's just that we are indelibly freelance, and you don't know what your next job is. And at the same time, you have the ability to create your own next job, but you don't know how that will land. So it's a brave choice to be a writer, I think. For anyone.” No matter your name. In this episode we discuss what to do if you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up, we look at the concept that you only have one true calling, we learn how to become a better big picture thinkers, we look at the superpowers you can develop by being a “multi-potential-ite,” how to master rapid learning and cultivate beginners mind, the fallacy behind the phrase “jack of all trades,” and much more with Emilie Wapnick.     Emilie is a speaker, career coach, founder of the popular blog Puttylike, and author of the book How To Be Everything: A Guide for those who still don't know what they want to be when they grow up. Her TED talk has been 3.7 million times and translated into over 36 languages. Her work has been featured in Fast Company, Forbes, Lifehacker, and more. How Emilie’s diverse interests and passions lead her down the path of creating a community of people who wanted to do more than just focus on one thing in their lives What does it mean to be “puttylike” Who are Multi-potential-ites and what makes them so interesting and powerful? Do you have a destiny, one true calling? How the industrial revolution shaped our language and understanding of “what you do” being who you are (and why that’s wrong) The idea that there is one specific thing you should master is a socially reinforced illusion & narrative Do you have to focus on one thing to be able to be successful? The assumption that you can either be a master of one thing or a jack of all trades is fundamentally flawed There are nonlinear and multi-connected and multi-faceted domains of knowledge that multi-potential-ites thrive in The diminishing returns and 80/20 principle behind mastering knowledge in different domains The Superpowers of Multipotentialites Idea Synthesis Rapid Learning (and passion) Adaptability Big Picture Thinking Relating and translating How to cultivate the ability to be a better big picture thinker Pattern recognition underpins many of these super-powers How to master rapid learning and cultivate beginners mind The power of exploring other fields and domains and how that can bring back new knowledge to the field you’re an expert in The 4 common approaches that multi-potentialites use to succeed financially in today’s world The “group hug” approach - combining all your interests into one thing The “slash” approach - creating separate and distinct revenue streams that you focus on fractionally The “Einstein” approach - find a job that supports your true passion The “Phoenix” approach - diving deep into a field, then pivoting out into something completely else What you do for money isn’t necessarily more valuable than the other things you do in your life Failure Celebration Week and taking the stigma away from failure If you had 10 lives what would you want to be in each of them? Emilie Wapnick is what she calls a “multipotentialite”.  And recently I learned, I'm one too.  There's a good chance if you're reading this, you have some multipotentilite tendencies as well.   According to Emilie's site: "Multipotentialites generally have diverse interests across numerous domains and may be capable of success in many endeavors or professions, they are confronted with unique decisions as a result of these choices." In her new book, How to be everything - A Guide for Those Who Still Don't Know What They Want to Be When They Grow Up, Emilie dissects exactly what it means to be one of these gifted, multi-talented individuals. In it, she explains how you can more easily approach a world where specialization reigns supreme, and we learn that in today's society flexibility can prove to be more lucrative than specialty.  I first came across Emilie's work when one of my clients told me about her community of multipotentialites, called “the puttytribe” and I knew I had to connect with her. As someone who firmly believes that not everyone is built to follow one true passion,  I knew that Emilie would have some awesome insights to share. Apparently I'm not the only one who resonates with this concept, because her TEDx talk titled “Why some people don't have a true calling” went viral and has since been viewed over 3 MILLION times.  Emilie is paving the way for the polymath/multipotentialite community, and really anyone who has ever felt like they couldn't be fit into a box.  SUBSCRIBE:  iTunes | Stitcher | Youtube FOLLOW EMILIE: Website | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:  How goal setting differs for someone who has a lot of interests. What we might learn from the BP diaster. "Projection MAKES perception, and you CANNOT see beyond it.... God calls you and you do not hear, for you are preoccupied with your own voice." "...Projection makes perception; the world you see is what you GAVE it, nothing more than that. But, though it is no more than that, it is not less. Therefore, to you, it is important. It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. As a man thinketh, so does he perceive. Therefore, seek not to change the world, but will to change your mind ABOUT the world. Perception is a RESULT, and not a cause. And that is why order of miracles is meaningless. Everything looked upon with vision is healed and holy. Nothing perceived without it means anything. And where there is no meaning, there is chaos. Damnation is your judgment on YOURSELF. And this you WILL project upon the world. See it as damned, and all you see is what you did to hurt the Son of God. If you behold disaster and catastrophe, you tried to crucify him. If you see holiness and hope, you joined the Will of God to set him free. There is no choice that lies between these two decisions. And you will see the witness to the choice you made, and learn from this to RECOGNIZE the one you made. The world you see but shows you how much joy YOU have allowed yourself to see in you, and to accept as YOURS. And, if this IS its meaning, then the power to GIVE it joy MUST lie WITHIN you."

Hello I'm Philip Urso.  This is Episode 9, How to Perform Miracles, part 2   Today I am joined by Liz, Steve and Lisa. Is the course in miracles a course in Physical healing?   The answer is yes, but that's not the point .  In fact, if you make it the point, it won't work.  Today we're working from the article, The 25 Principles of Healing by Robert Perry. This will be much easier to understand if you have heard one of the red donut sessions episode 1 and 5 both cover it.  We start were we left off, on number 9 of the  25 points.  So here we go

This is Episode 8, How to Perform Miracles.   Today I am joined by Liz, Steve  Lisa and Linda .   Is the course in miracles a course in Physical healing?   The answer is yes, but that's not the point .  In fact, if you make it the point, it won't work.      Today we're working from the article, The 25 Principles of Healing by Robert Perry..   This will be much easier to understand if you have heard one of the red donut sessions episode 1 and 5 both cover it.    Here we could not wait and jumped right in on the topic.  At about 19 minutes in, we start on number 1 of the  25 points.  We make it through the first 8 and next week we will present the discussion on the last principles.   Some donut news- we are now writing in blue, the word, Holy Spirit, across the border of the donut and god.  Also when we discuss relationships and draw 2 donuts, in the center of both we write “I am experiencing.‿

Welcome to Episode 7 of A Crash Course in Miracles, A Cloud does not put out the sun.    You will have an easier time understanding this if you have heard one of the earlier episodes describing the Barrier of fear or as we have come to describe it: the red donut.  Episode 5 goes with this one) and Episode 1 do the trick.    Also, but alert to the fact that I am standing next to a drawing of this red donut, which represents the ego and the illusion of the world placed on top of all that is: God.   So I am constantly referring to “this‿ and “in there‿ which, by context you should be able to discern as either the donut, our made-up self, or an expansion of God, our true identity..    In this episode we begin inquiry into how to be a miracle worker.  Next week we will look list attributes of the healer or miracle worker.  Before the discussion begins, I would like to acknowledge my teachers of the course, Ken Wapnick, Gary Renard and Jon Mundy.  Often I find myself using their concepts in these pods and they deserve credit for their helpful ideas and metaphors.  I'm pretty sure the idea of the movie came from Gary.

And so we start another red donut â??Welcome to episode 5 from All That Matters, the largest yoga and holistic health services center in Southern New England.  We recorded 3 sessions here.  If you have listened to the 1st 4 episodes you probably have an idea already what the barrier of fear is, we also call it the red donut, the story of me, and sometimes just â??in here.â?? (Imagine me pointing to it.)  If this is your first episode, try enlarging the picture in the I tunes window or simply go to Cloud Sun dot com and see the graphics there.    You probably have noticed that we always open these with some preview quotes, all patched together, so you can get a taste of what the discussion is like.  Weâ??ll play the previews now and jump right into the discussion.  Well this one leans more toward presentation.  I do travel and make this presentation to groups.  Let me know if you are interested.  Philip@Urso.com   Also, I just published a Pod called:  Quotes from A Course in Miracles, Jesus unedited.  You may enjoy hearing some of the most cogent quotes.  On iTunes and libsyn.com.

From the preview quotes you will hear first you may conclude that  you are insane.  Metaphysics is a big word- beyond physical. But it is all summed up by the title of this pod:  Nothing real can be threatened.   All spirituality is about understanding what is real and what is not.  The Course maintains that everything that is not God does not exist.  Luckily we are part of Gods mind BUT our bodies and this world are NOT.    In fact, God did not make this world, but we DREAMED IT.  It is called the dream of separation.  It is a familiar creation story in that we like Lucifer, thought we could be God.  But unlike many creation stories, the world, our body and everything that is not God is an illusion, just a dream. To the extent we believe in it, we suffer insanity.  To the extent we realize it is not real and this body is not really me, we gain a sense of peace  that is outside the limits of the dream of time and space.   To this degree we wake up from the dream. And this is the essence al all spiritual teaching.
