Akilah S. Richards is a grief literacy educator, Certified Integrative Thanatologist, and Savor coach who supports people through the often-overlooked losses of life—not just death, but shifts in identity, role, and relationship. Her work helps people slow down, honor what's ending, and listen for what still wants to live. For over a decade, Akilah was a leading voice in the global unschooling movement, helping families reclaim autonomy, question hierarchy, and build consent-based relationships. That legacy of liberation now lives through her grief and joy work, where she invites us to trade performance for presence and urgency for rhythm. She is the creator of What I Let Die, a public service podcast on grief literacy, and co-creator of Bringing Flowers, a collaborative offering with Thea Monyeé that explores the sacred interplay between grief and joy. Through coaching, courses, and creative community spaces, Akilah helps us practice being with what hurts without rushing to fix it. Whether facilitating grief circles or crafting language for the unnameable, Akilah's work reminds us that grief is a teacher—not a threat—and that we are allowed to grieve out loud, in rhythm, and in community. New Delhi had an air pollution watch leading up to this year's Diwali celebrations, with its air quality remaining ‘very poor' for the 7th consecutive day. Meanwhile, across the border, the Pakistani city of Lahore had to close all primary schools for a week, with the air quality index (which measures a range of pollutants) exceeding 1,000 on Saturday. This is WELL above the benchmark of 300, which is considered "dangerous" by the World Health Organization.Right across Southeast Asia, a health crisis is unfolding due to coal-fired power plants releasing fine particle pollution, causing millions of premature deaths annually. But it's deforestation too. In Singapore, Malaysia, and many other neighbouring countries (depending on which way the wind is blowing), the region experiences an annual “haze” season. This happens because tropical forests in Indonesia's peatlands are intentionally burned, so palm oil plantations can replace them. It causes havoc in the region, including driving many local animals close to extinction – like the Sumatran Tiger and the Orangutan. While not over, stronger action has been taken, and the region hasn't seen a haze like its worst, which happened in 2015!Moving up North to Thailand, it also has an annual burning season in the northern regions of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, resulting in haze sweeping across the country, and for those living in the smoke, it's deadly. Until you've experienced living in this type of pollution, it's very challenging to describe how terrible it is, but of course, it is also very easy to sit back and say “someone else will sort it out.” Well, our amazing guest this week – Khun Weenarin Lulitanonda aka Weena - is leading from the front and established the Thailand Clean Air Network nearly six years ago, and is fighting with all of her power to get this act passed. A Senior Consultant for the World Bank, please join us is welcoming Weena to the show, where she will share the work she is doing, what drove her to act, the challenges she faces and what she hopes to achieve. Weena is an inspiration, but also an example of what can be done when someone cares enough. We can all be like Weena. The air we breathe is vital for all life and we need to prioritize it, so please do join us Friday, 6th November – 2pm Bangkok time, 3pm Singapore time, and 7am UK time. Climate Courage is a livestream, held every two weeks and is co-hosted by Andrea T Edwards, Dr. David Ko and Richard Busellato. On the show, we cover critical topics across the full spectrum of the polycrisis, in everyday language, and we go big picture on the climate crisis, while also drilling down and focusing on the actions we can all take to be part of the solution. Whether individual action, community action, or national/global action - every single one of us can be part of ensuring a live-able future for our children and grandchildren. After a long journey, the Time Traveller finds himself in a dark forest, with a small load of firewood and his companion, Weena. Suddenly, he is surrounded by Morlocks which threaten them both. In a desperate attempt to escape, he lights the firewood, watching as the blaze spreads and drives the Morlocks away. But his success is short-lived, as the fire quickly engulfs the forest and the protagonist realises he is lost and Weena is gone. In a moment of panic, he discovers a hillock in the middle of the burning wood, and finds a group of helpless Morlocks, dazzled by the light and heat. He is able to make his escape and eventually finds his way to the White Sphinx, but not before discovering the tragic fate of Weena. Amidst the chaos, he discovers a few loose matches in his pocket, giving him a glimmer of hope.
The Time Traveller and Weena explore an ancient palace made of green porcelain, which turns out to be a museum of sorts. Inside, they find all sorts of relics from the past, from fossils to weaponry. The Time Traveller realizes that these objects could be of use against the Morlocks, and finds a box of matches and some camphor, which he uses to create a fire to keep them safe through the night. The next day, he sets out to find a way to get his Time Machine back, armed with a things he has found in the palace. With these in hand, he is ready to face any danger that may come his way.
The Time Traveller is travelling with Weena and is searching for a refuge from the Morlocks. He wanders through the valley of the Thames, until he comes upon the Palace of Green Porcelain and is drawn to its tall pinnacles. He is determined to find a safe place to sleep, and armed with a battery of weapons, he and Weena venture into the black wood. Will our Time Traveller finally find a way to recover the Time Machine and escape the Morlocks?

Greg interviews Khun Weena from the Thailand Clean Air Network, a guest who previously appeared on Episode 66 of Season 4, when Thailand was in the middle of a crazy air pollution crisis. Since then K. Weena and her organization have been hard at work preparing reports for the government on the status of air quality in Thailand. In fact, her group has recently finished a 700 page green paper outline solutions for the Thai government to pursue. Weena outlines the extensive research she helped organize to prepare the report, which involved consulting with experts in multiple fields and trying to find realistic solutions that suit different entities. She explains that the report outlines steps for the government and private sector companies to take, but also responsibilities that best lie with the general public. Greg compliments K. Weena on the almost insane comprehensiveness of the report, but plays devil's advocate: How do we know that the government will take the advice in the report seriously and actually make changes? K. Weena notes that their research focused on very actionable items, not pie-in-the-sky proposals that are politically infeasible. Further, air pollution in Thailand exacts massive costs on the public in the form of increased health care costs, and smart politicians who want to win elections should realize that people don't want to get sick and go broke on their treatment. Listen in for further discussion of Thailand's air quality issues with a true professional. Don't forget that Patrons get the ad-free version of the show as well as swag and other perks. And we'll keep our Facebook, Twitter, and LINE accounts active so you can send us comments, questions, or whatever you want to share.

A Reading of Chapter 16 and the Epilogue of the Time Machine by H.G. Wells found on Project Gutenberg. The Time Machine Summary A group of men, including the narrator, is listening to the Time Traveller discuss his theory that time is the fourth dimension. The Time Traveller produces a miniature time machine and makes it disappear into thin air. The next week, the guests return, to find their host stumbling in, looking disheveled and tired. They sit down after dinner, and the Time Traveller begins his story. The Time Traveller had finally finished work on his time machine, and it rocketed him into the future. When the machine stops, in the year 802,701 AD, he finds himself in a paradisiacal world of small humanoid creatures called Eloi. They are frail and peaceful and give him fruit to eat. He explores the area, but when he returns he finds that his time machine is gone. He decides that it has been put inside the pedestal of a nearby statue. He tries to pry it open but cannot. In the night, he begins to catch glimpses of strange white ape-like creatures the Eloi call Morlocks. He decides that the Morlocks live below ground, down the wells that dot the landscape. Meanwhile, he saves one of the Eloi from drowning, and she befriends him. Her name is Weena. The Time Traveller finally works up enough courage to go down into the world of Morlocks to try to retrieve his time machine. He finds that matches are a good defense against the Morlocks, but ultimately they chase him out of their realm. Frightened by the Morlocks, he takes Weena to try to find a place where they will be safe from the Morlocks' nocturnal hunting. He goes to what he calls the Palace of Green Porcelain, which turns out to be a museum. There, he finds more matches, some camphor, and a lever he can use as a weapon. That night, retreating from the Morlocks through a giant wood, he accidentally starts a fire. Many Morlocks die in the fire and the battle that ensues, and Weena is killed. The exhausted Time Traveller returns to the pedestal to find that it has already been pried open. He strides in confidently, and just when the Morlocks think that they have trapped him, he springs onto the machine and whizzes into the future. The Time Traveller makes several more stops. In a distant time, he stops on a beach where he is attacked by giant crabs. The bloated red sun sits motionless in the sky. He then travels thirty million years into the future. The air is very thin, and the only sign of life is a black blob with tentacles. He sees a planet eclipse the sun. He then returns, exhausted, to the present time. The next day, he leaves again but never returns. The air is very thin, and the only sign of life is a black blob with tentacles. He sees a planet eclipse the sun. He then returns, exhausted, to the present time. The next day, he leaves again but never returns. A Reading of Chapter 12 of the Time Machine by H.G. AUDIOBOOK IN ROMANA: Masina Timpului - Capitolul 13 - CAPCANA SFINXULUI ALB ( Herbert George Wells ). In This Episode The Book Evangelists discuss The Time Machine by H. G. Wells and share our attempts to adapt a public domain work into a new story. Morning Chatter Lissa left her house on the same summer vacation she planned months ago. Marian is finishing edits on her book! (And her reward will be even more edits on another project!) The Time Machine by H. G. Wells Discussion The Time Machine: Problems and Pleasures of reading Classic Literature • What do we think about the Eloi and the Morlocks and Weena? • If you were imagining a utopia, what would it look like? Can there even be a utopia? • Using a frame story, two first person narrators, a narrator who is removed from the action • What's with that ending? What do we think happened to The Time Traveler? Challenge: Reimagining Classic Works How did we decide to do this again? Lissa was trying to fulfill a writing dare to write fanfiction. And wondered if reimagining classic works is a kind of fanfiction. Ultimately she wrote a short story imagining Kirsten Cohen (the mom from the early 2000's television drama The O.C.) in 2020 awaiting the birth of her first grandchild during the pandemic and racial justice protests. Is reimagining a story more fun to write? Easier? More challenging? What makes it more fun for the reader? Do readers like the puzzle to see what they recognize from the original? To see what the author has changed? The familiarity with the original concept? Reimagining of classic public domain stories can be published, unlike fanfiction based on current characters. New Podcast Segment: Bad Idea Corner and/or Slush Pile It's amazing to think about and imagine stories we don't ever have to write. Lissa's reimagining of Treasure Island as a Modern Middle Grades Coming of Age story. Jemma Hawkins lives with her mom in a struggling Bed and Breakfast, and across town her father runs a pirate themed miniature golf and go-cart destination. Jemma rarely sees her father, but after a mysterious visitor arrives, her mother encourages her to spend the summer at mini golf. As Jemma gets to know her father better, she uncovers a mystery based in her parents' past, including the slightly creepy place they met, a large amusement park called Treasure Island. Marian's reimagining of The Great Gatsby in Space. The glittering city of Agorith has long been a playground both for the established aristocracy of the galaxy and those who seek to join them. Kase, the ambitious son of prosperous but provincial merchants, has arrived in the city looking to make his fortune. Using his family connections, he has managed to secure small quarters that overlook the truly fabulous homes of the rich. His neighbors fascinate him, especially one who seems to exist more in rumor than in flesh, Harlin. Coming Up Next episode: Marian and Lissa read Old Man's War by John Scalzi. Lissa discovered John Scalzi by way of Wil Wheaton narrating the audiobook of Ready Player One almost a decade ago. This led her to Redshirts, which turned into reading (listening to) almost all of Scalzi's fiction. Our Show Notes include mentions and recommendations, all linked for your convenience. The fifth and final part of our reading of "The Time Machine" by H. G. Wells. You may remember Jean-Phillippe from Episode #94 - he's certainly one of the most industrious brewers in the city. Not only does he own and operate La Succursale, but he's a partner in the co-op MaBrasserie and in Little Italy's Birra Bar à Bières Maison. Along with JP's partner in life and business Weena, we chatted about the local scene, how they manage their incredible workload, and of course, lactose (hint: JP isn't a fan). Beers Reviewed: Birra Camilla; Birra Anne; La Succursale Pils; La Succursale IPA Goyave; Birra Irma; La Succursale La Promenade. It’s storytime from Confetti Park! In this episode we hear a tale of dinosaur friendship by award-winning children’s author David Eugene Ray out of New Orleans. This is Lophi Learns to Fly. Lophi is a small dinosaur who feels invisible in his herd. He lives a fairly contented life, but he’s lonely. He spends most of his afternoons watching the pterodactyls flying in the sky. One day, he meets Weena, and they discover that they both share this fascination with the winged creatures and wish, themselves, to fly. Weena has her own reasons for wanting to leave the herd behind. The two decide to collaborate to build wings, and they set off on a construction adventure. Each day spent in the forest collecting the right materials brings them closer to launch, and closer together. Even though the two dinosaurs couldn’t be more different, their friendship blossoms as they work through the challenges of learning to fly. David Eugene Ray works with animals everyday at the Audubon Nature Institute. (Follow him on Twitter at @aquarium_dave.) He is the author of The Little Mouse Santi, which was named a Best Book of 2015 by Kirkus Reviews.
