New Zealand's seeing renewed growth in international education, with rising demand from both major and emerging markets. Education New Zealand data shows more than 92 thousand international students enrolled last year, up 11% on the year prior. China and India make up almost half of all enrolments. Acting Chief Executive Linda Sissons told Mike Hosking we're sitting at around 80% of our pre-Covid numbers, but the difference between then and now is the focus on value as well as volume. She says we're on track for both, as in the past year we've exceeded their target of export earnings and are sitting just below the target for enrolments. While most of the article is technically true, the broad takeaway that virtually everyone had (including me) was wildly, irresponsibly false. The ACOG recommends a multimodal approach to postoperative pain that includes nonsteroidal NSAIDs, acetaminophen, and opioids. Ketorolac is a favored NSAID for postop pain control. However, the optimal dose of ketorolac after cesarean delivery has not been determined. More Kiwis are signing up for nursing courses but there are concerns job opportunities aren't keeping up. Latest Ministry of Education data shows almost 18 thousand people were enrolled in nursing courses last year. About 34 thousand are studying other health courses. Nurses Society National Director David Wills told Mike Hosking the country is facing a health funding bottleneck, which has been making it very difficult for graduates to get roles in the past 18 months. Earlier this month, Oregon Health and Science University released new nationwide data that found low physician participation in Medicaid. Researchers deemed these physicians “ghost” providers: physicians who are enrolled in Medicaid, but don’t care for even a single patient covered by the federal health insurance program. Those findings also revealed that another third of physicians who are enrolled in Medicaid may be overburdened, with higher-than-average yearly patient volumes.
