fWotD Episode 2697: Qalaherriaq Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles.The featured article for Sunday, 22 September 2024 is Qalaherriaq.Qalaherriaq (Inuktun pronunciation: [qalahəχːiɑq], c. 1834 – June 14, 1856), baptized as Erasmus Augustine Kallihirua, was an Inughuit hunter from Cape York, Greenland. He was recruited in 1850 as an interpreter by the crew of the British survey barque HMS Assistance during the search for John Franklin's lost Arctic expedition. He guided the ship to Wolstenholme Fjord to investigate rumors of a massacre of Franklin's crew, but only found the corpses of local Inughuit and crew from an unrelated British vessel. He was alleged to have produced an extremely accurate map of his homeland, but was almost certainly aided by the crew of the vessel. Although the Assistance initially planned to return him to his family after the expedition, poor sea conditions made landing at Cape York impossible, and he was taken to England and placed under the care of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK). Enrolled at St Augustine's College in Canterbury, England, Qalaherriaq studied English and Christianity for several years. He was appointed by the Bishop of Newfoundland Edward Feild to accompany him on religious missions to the Inuit of Labrador. He arrived at St. John's in October 1855, and began studying at the Theological Institute. Plagued by illness since his time aboard the Assistance, he died from complications of long-term tuberculosis in June 1856, shortly before he was scheduled to travel to Labrador. A posthumous biography, Kalli, the Esquimaux Christian, was published by the SPCK shortly after his death. Blake finds fulfillment in mentoring new students and enjoys the dynamic atmosphere of UGA's orientation sessions, which she describes as a highlight of her summer experience. STORY 2: Gwinnett Tech Hosts GiveWorx Program in Partnership with 100 Black Men of North Metro Atlanta    Gwinnett Technical College has partnered with the GiveWorx Construction Program to empower resilient students through a comprehensive 14-16 week initiative. This program offers academic training, hands-on skills development in construction, mentoring, job shadowing, and job readiness workshops. Collaborators include Home Builders Initiative, Home Depot, and 100 Black Men Atlanta. Gwinnett Tech recently hosted a tour highlighting post-high school options and emphasizes the "3 E's": Enrolled, Employed, and Enlisted. Dr. Glenn Cannon, president of Gwinnett Tech, praises the partnership for supporting diverse educational pathways. STORY 3:   Some Asian-American Lawmakers From Gwinnett Backing Harris' Presidential Run Following President Joe Biden's decision not to seek re-election, Asian-American lawmakers from Gwinnett County swiftly expressed support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's potential nominee for the presidency. Harris, of mixed Jamaican and South Asian descent, would be the first Black woman and the first Asian-American to hold the office if elected. State Sen. Nabilah Islam Parkes and other Democratic legislators from Gwinnett, including Reps. Sam Park, Marvin Lim, and Farooq Mughal, endorsed Harris, highlighting her historic candidacy and praising her and Biden's engagement with Georgia's AAPI community. Not all Asian-American lawmakers in Gwinnett support Harris; Rep. Soo Hong, a Republican, remains aligned with his party. However, after opening a blocked artery, concern for re-occlusion persisted, especially in the first several days to week, and experts postulated that antithrombotic therapy with heparin could improve outcomes compared to use of aspirin alone. The 3rd study from the ISIS group sought to test the hypothesis that therapeutic heparin plus aspirin reduced mortality compared to aspirin alone in patients treated with early fibrinolytic therapy. The investigators also sought to test whether different fibrinolytic regimens were safer and more effective compared to each other. *Since treatment with fibrinolytic therapy is no longer standard practice in most places and no significant differences in fibrinolytic regimens were ultimately reported, we will focus only on the heparin plus aspirin versus aspirin alone portion of the study.Patients Patients were eligible for ISIS 3 if they were thought to be within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms of suspected or definite acute MI (with or without ECG changes) and if they had no definite contraindications to fibrinolytic therapy. Contraindications were not specified by protocol but by the responsible physician; standard contraindications to fibrinolysis were suggested. Patients were eligible even if aspirin or heparin was thought to be clearly contraindicated or if it was thought that aspirin alone was not enough (i.e., that some anticoagulant was clearly indicated). In such cases, patients were still to be randomized and the allocated antithrombotic regimen was then modified as thought appropriate for the particular patient.Baseline characteristics The majority of patients were men (73%) and under the age of 70 years who presented within 6 hours from the onset of pain (78%). Enrolled patients appeared to be generally stable as only 6% had SBP
