On this episode, I'm honored to be joined by founder of eXp Realty, Glenn Sanford. As a part of eXp, we've seen first hand what makes this company and its leadership so outstanding. It's a company of entrepreneurs who are building something special together, and this all started with the forward-thinking model Glenn envisioned back in 2009, when virtual brokerages hadn't begun to take shape. What always struck us about Glenn was his deep understanding of the challenges real estate business owners face, and the opportunities that are available to us. It's this business-minded approach, and his drive to create an engaged company culture in a virtual setting that has made eXp grow to take 2% of the US agent market, and helped it continue to grow globally. After being involved with a number of internet start-ups in the 1990's and early 2000's, including a stint at AOL, Glenn started a highly successful real estate career in 2002. In 2006, his fourth full year in the business, Glenn and his team closed over $60,000,000 in real estate almost entirely from online lead generation and was ranked as one of the top 50 teams nationally with Keller Williams. After the downturn in 2008, he and his team developed the first cloud-based brokerage model that uses a 3D avatar-based online office to collaborate and communicate while abandoning the physical bricks and mortar infrastructure normally associated with real estate brokerage. In the last 9 years, since launching with 25 agents, eXp Realty has grown to over 15000 agents in all 50 states, DC and 3 Provinces in Canada and over 400 different MLS market areas. eXp Realty refers to itself as Agent-owned and the company became a public company in 2013 and in 2014 started to distribute equity to its productive agent owners. eXp Realty provides the first ESOP style Stock Ownership Program for its agents and brokers as well as a revenue sharing program all designed to enhance the agent-centric business model. What has made eXp Realty such an attractive company for many Realtors across that globe is that it's a company of entrepreneurs who are building something together. It's a culture that doesn't just promote innovation, it also rewards entrepreneurs for it. The success of the company stems from the early vision its leaders had to lean into the virtual model, without losing engagement, commonality and the shared context of being a Realtor in today's world. In Today's Episode, We Talk About; - Glenn's background before eXp. - Where the idea for eXp Realty came from, and the pieces that came together for it to happen. - The power of building into a future trend early. - How to get a virtual brokerage right and uphold the team environment in a geographically dispersed setting. - Why Glenn decided to make eXp a publicly traded real estate company and building a vehicle for ownership. - Building a strong team and why hiring generalists is better than specialist. - The goal to scale eXp. - What Glenn sees on the horizon in real estate and why agents shouldn't be too panicked about change. Guest Info Glenn is the founder eXp Realty and CEO of eXp World Holdings, Inc. eXp Realty refers to itself as Agent-owned and the company became a public company in 2013 and in 2014 started to distribute equity to its productive agent owners. eXp Realty provides the first ESOP style Stock Ownership Program for its agents and brokers as well as a revenue sharing program all designed to enhance the agent-centric business model. https://www.linkedin.com/in/glenndsanford/

Glenn Kelman has always had the ambition to make real estate better for consumers. But it took him a while to realize that he wasn’t the only one who wanted to do that. He came into the game with an US vs. THEM mentality, assuming that all of Redfin’s competitors were villains and snake oil salesmen. To his relief, it turned out that his industry rivals were actually good people. And while that doesn’t make him any less driven, he does concede that this shift in perspective has made him ‘not quite so insufferable.’ Glenn Kelman is the President and CEO of Redfin, a technology-powered brokerage designed to redefine real estate in the customer’s favor. Prior to Redfin, Glenn cofounded the startup Plumtree Software and served as its VP of Marketing & Product Management until its acquisition in 2005. Glenn has been the CEO of Redfin for the past 13 years, and under his leadership, the company was twice named Innovator of the Year by Inman News. Redfin went public in July of 2017, and today, its market cap is $1.82B. Today, Glenn explains why he still feels like an underdog, despite Redfin’s success. He weighs in on running a mission-driven company, discussing his aim to ‘do something good for real estate consumers’ whether Redfin makes money or not. Glenn also covers the civil nature of the relationship between Redfin and Zillow, Redfin’s new partnership with Re/Max, and the impetus behind Redfin’s ‘buy without an agent’ feature. Listen in for Glenn’s insight on cultivating agent professionalism and learn how his perception of the competition has changed over time. Dr. Glenn Livingston is a veteran psychologist and was the long time CEO of a multi-million dollar consulting firm which has serviced several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Glenn spent several decades researching the nature of binging and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. You may remember Glenn and the wisdom he shared during Episode 251. If you haven’t listened to, studied, and applied all he shared during our first interview...I highly encourage you to add Episode 251 to your list of vital priorities. In this week's episode of the This Week in Weddings podcast, we're chatting all about growing your business through staff who operate under your business name. With so many entrepreneurs in the wedding industry looking to grow their businesses and have others take on clients under their business name -- for example, photography companies who book associate photographers, or wedding planning companies that have planners on their team who take on their own clients -- we thought it would be great to hear how someone has done this successfully. In this episode of the podcast, we're diving into the "multi-ops" business model with a wedding entrepreneur who has done this successfully. This week's This Week In Weddings podcast guest, Glenn Roush, shares his story of how he grew his company from being a solopreneur to having a team of 20 DJs. About our guest: Glenn Roush was a junior in high school the first time he took on the role of a DJ at a church event. While at Baylor, he quickly grew tired of going to dances with bad DJs and decided to start his own DJ company that focused on quality gear, a library of radio edited versions of the hottest songs and stellar service. After graduating from Baylor, Glenn moved to Dallas to take a job in banking but when more and more of his friends started getting engaged and asking him to DJ their weddings he realized this could be much more than just a side gig. In 2010, Glenn quit his full-time job as an accountant and started LeForce Entertainment. The goal of LeForce was to expand beyond a one man shop and have a team of DJs who could help meet the shortage of quality DJs in the DFW market. LeForce quickly grew to a team of 10 DJs in the first 2 years and now has over 20 DJs on the team and does hundreds of events each year. Not only does LeForce provide quality DJs, the company has evolved over the years to provide lighting, photobooth and AV services. In 2016 LeForce Entertainment became LeForce Event Group with the acquisition of Lynn Films and then a merger with Simply Music Events in January 2017. Glenn currently resides in Dallas with his wife Jennifer, sons Deason and Truett and French bulldogs Bruiser and Ginger. Glenn enjoys traveling, college football and quality time with his family and friends. In this episode, listeners will hear about: How Glenn got his start DJ'ing Why Glenn thought a multi-ops business could work, even when other DJs told him it couldn't Tips for hiring and training your team Why Glenn's team is made up of employees instead of contractors (we're even diving into non-compete and non-solicitation agreements!) Things to consider as your business grows with more employees (the fun stuff, like insurance and worker's comp!)

"The word is out... gratitude has incredible benefits." ~Glenn Fox In this entertaining interview, Glenn covers his journey toward graduate school and beyond. Citing stories of getting his top-level mechanics degree and his love of cars and, how being a mechanic served much of his mindfulness development. His eclectic background combined with an element of chance ultimately leads Glenn to find a great mentor who recommendeds that he study an emerging field, "affective neuroscience". Glenn shares wonderful insights and studies related to neuroscience and gratitude and how for him he must "win the home field" — a great metaphor to help him remember it's really about having healthy, quality relationships —that foster success. Glenn R. Fox earned his PhD from USC’s Neuroscience Graduate Program and his extensive research regarding gratitude is widely published. Just some of what Martin and Glenn cover: -How across nearly all religions and philosophies Glenn has noticed that gratitude is a fundamental theme -How mindfulness and gratitude are practices -How emotion can help us to narrow the range of options -How the brain process emotion -How emotion influences our decisions and behaviors -How we might better understand the value of emotions to make better decisions -His influences like Antonio Damasio and Pema Chodron even, -Why Glenn sees envy as a positive emotion And much more... The point is emotion narrows the decisions we can make so we're not just frozen... it's useful and helps us make decisions — it probably exists for a reason. Subscribe Don't miss a single episode.
