When investors are leaning on you to get “New Logos” you can lose sight of customer success and it can change or damage your culture. For Tom Lavery at Jiminny, compromising on customer success or culture were not options. Tom was a VP of sales before he, his wife and their technical cofounder started the company. He set out to solve some of the problems he faced around coaching as a sales leader. Tom understands that effective sales leadership starts with data. Jiminny's platform records, transcribes, and analyzes video, voice, and email communications, providing valuable insights for sales leaders. From the beginning he did the selling and his first hires for sales were not sellers, but customer success managers. This was pivotal to his growth because customers had high user adoption and because of that renewed and told others. His entire team is focused on customer success because of his strong culture. In seven short years, his team has grown tremendously, and they work as a team to retain customers, find new prospects and guide buyers through to a decision. Even with his amazing team, he plays an important role in sales. Listen to Tom share his growth story with Alice and his passion for maintaining a great culture. We all have "workplace experiences" every day - but whether they are left to chance or consciously thought about and curated can make a world of difference to how we absorb our organisation's vision, brand and values. Writing values on the walls and expecting that to do the job won't cut it. If the lived experience of the organisation (in the office, at home, and culturally) is filled with jarring disconnects from the story it tells about what it values, then the level of friction and lack of authenticity may drive people to disengage, and ultimately to leave. Which is why workplace experiences matter now, more than ever. Here's a quick overview of the topics in this episode:The brain is the starting point (01:21)We can't leave workplace experiences to chance (07:12)Reward Gateway's journey - part 1 (17:16)Every element of the experience represents your brand (25:26)AWA Host: Karen PlumGuests: Andrew Mawson, Founder and Managing Director, AWABrad Taylor, Director of Consulting, AWACatrin Lewis, Head of Global Engagement and Internal Communications, Reward Gateway AWA Guest details: https://www.advanced-workplace.com/our-team/ Reward Gateway additional materials:London office ways of working and office tourProject Meadow YouTube video, sharing the story of the London officeCONTACTS & WEBSITE details:AWA contact: Andrew Mawson AWA Institute contact: Natalia SavitcaiaMusic: Licensed by Soundstripe – Lone CanyonWant to know more about AWA? Do you know what's really concerning your people as we enter a new year? Special Guest: Debra Corey: Author of ‘See it. Say it. Appreciate it!' Debra is a highly experienced and award-winning HR consultant, world-class speaker, and five-time best-selling author who has been named as one of the top 101 Global Employee Engagement Influencers and HR Most Influential Thinkers. After 20+ years working as an HR leader for global companies such as Gap Inc, Merlin Entertainments and Reward Gateway, she now inspires and ‘pays it forward' by helping others develop and deliver HR strategies in a rebellious way, pushing the boundaries and challenging the status quo to truly drive employee engagement. Showing appreciation through recognition has been proven to be one of the most effective tools a manager has. From driving stronger business results to improving morale, relationships with their people, as well as their overall wellbeing, studies have found the impact and difference it can make. However, with 65% of employees saying that they don't feel appreciated, and 75% of employees who quit their job citing a lack of recognition as the key driver, clearly something's not working. Debra is on a mission to change this so every employee feels appreciated, not just a few. Where recognition occurs for all of the small things that matter and make a difference, and not just the big ones. Where recognition happens continuously and in a timely manner to reap the ‘in the moment' benefits. And where employees feel valued and appreciated through genuine, meaningful and inclusive recognition. Join us as we discuss the importance of having formal and informal ways of showing appreciation. Pressure is something we feel in and outside of work and when not handled effectively can cause constant stress, impacts to performance and our wellbeing. To discuss this topic, I'm joined by Tom Lavery, Founder of Jiminny. Tom has over 15 years experience in leading Sales teams in high-growth SaaS businesses. Before founding Jiminny in 2016, he was the SVP at Reward Gateway, where he went through two PE backed rounds of investments and grew the Revenue team from zero to over 100 people. He'll be sharing what pressure means to him, how he's changed his perspective on it and the tools he uses to manage it effectively.
Do your team members really understand the metrics by which they are measured? How do you make sure everyone on your team is on the same page and understands what is expected of them when they are not in the same space? Today's Tip for Sales Leaders is from Rich Belson who is a Sales Development Leader at Reward Gateway in the UK. You may no longer be in the office every day or having those 5 min check-ins as much. However, your team still needs that visibility to manage their performance. In the post-pandemic world, the structure of how you manage your hybrid team needs to change. Rich believes that flexible working is such a core component of attracting the right talent for your team. Today he'll be talking to me about how you can develop a flexible and hybrid team that fully understands their roles and performance goals. As Rich says - "Coaching is vital, it's important to have that culture of coaching and being able to have conversations to give feedback at any time. With remote teams, it is quite difficult if you need to find time in someone's diary. But having that culture to be able to give your team member a call, without them feeling concerned they are going to receive a call out of the blue from their manager or team member is important. They know you are going to have that conversation with them the same way you would in the office, for example over a coffee.” Check out the rest of today's episode now, follow the link in the comments!

KAMCast - Key Account Management Strategies for Business Leaders
IN THIS EPISODE:Do you have a team whose hearts and minds are 100% invested in your business goals? What are the levels of motivation across your account managers and sales team? How ENGAGED are they? For many businesses, the working world has changed and for most - it's still changing. The concept of remote and Hybrid working is no longer uncommon, and sales leaders are battling the ongoing challenge of managing performance and inspiring excellence in teams that are no longer sat every day in the office, feeding off of each other's energy and learning from their peers in the room. Employee engagement is not a new thing. It's long been acknowledged that happy and engaged teams lead to happy and engaged customers which ultimately create happy and engaged shareholders. And…in today's world, as we edge closer to our own new format and structure of work, engagement has never been so important. Perhaps you are a business leader asking yourself “how do I engage a remote or hybrid team to maximise performance?” Or perhaps you are an account manager who is questioning your own level of engagement and feeling a little disconnected from the business that pays for your peak performance. Whichever camp you are in, there is no escaping the importance of employee engagement and how it really does affect your business' ability to maximise the success of KAM performance. In this episode we tackle a fundamental mission to MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE TO WORK. Knowing that if we do that, EVERYONE benefits. To dive into the topic, I invited two guests from the https://www.rewardgateway.com/uk (company Reward Gateway) - the employee engagement people. More than 2,000 organisations worldwide use the Reward Gateway platform to connect, support and recognise their employees, whenever and wherever they work. Let's dive straight in! You will hear from Robert Hicks, the Group Human Resources Director, and Lou Kwakye the Sales Director. Between them, they live and breathe the company's mission (‘make the world a better place to work'), both internally and externally, whilst continuing to push for profitable performance. HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS EPISODE:This is a big discussion about the variations of working as we emerge from restrictive living, and sharing ideas for the best ways to engage sales teams who are working remotely. We explore side topics like: how tech can support sales leaders to engage, excite and empower their teams and what do we think the future looks like? This is one of those episodes where we intentionally blur the line between new business and existing customer management to look at the fundamental building blocks for keeping people engaged. The thing about Hybrid working is that it comes with a whole load of choices. Choice for an employee and choice for employers. What choices have you made in the way you and your teams engage on your key account management mission? Have you considered what tasks are best performed from which locations and environments and are you organising you and your team's diaries to be most effective? How are you and the team achieving the 4 C's of: Cooperation Collaboration Coordination and Communication Perhaps a truly engaged team is where a Quality of Life meets Quality of Work. Robert and Lou are a great example of where Sales and HR are working together, not just on the People Strategy for maximising performance but the rich learning that can be accessed when senior leaders share experience across departments. Senior leaders are buyers in their own rights, so how often to you share your own experiences, of being a buyer, with your sales and account managers to support the learning internally? MY THOUGHTS AFTER THIS INTERVIEW...Are your new business teams ALIGNED with your Account Managers? Do they share in the one mission? In my experience, there are many organisations where New Business and Existing Business become disparate and, in a world where...
After 20+ years in the corporate world, Debra Corey wanted to be creative with her own title - Chief Pay It Forward Officer - of her business DebCoHR. Guesting on our show is just one of the many ways that Debra shares her extensive skills and knowledge gathered during her career as an award-winning and respected HR leader at such companies as Gap, Merlin Entertainment and most recently Reward Gateway. Author of 3 books and an in-demand speaker, Debra has a rebellious streak about her which fits our quirky yet professional offering - just take a look at some of her photos and you'll see she really has fun with her serious specialist subject of employee engagement. We discuss how organisations have reacted to, and continue to do so, the massive and rapid changes caused by the pandemic. One of Debra's key philosophies is to step back, take stock and observe other companies' behaviour, good and bad, before setting out your own strategy. And first of all, ask WHY? As a shepherd who was born in London with no farming in his family's background, Chris talks about how he has always been curious. When he first went into farming, he would ask others why they would do something a certain way, their response being "it's always been done like that". It takes courage to plough a new furrow, to challenge the status quo, and Debra agreed that the first two aspects of being a 'rebel' is to ask 'Why?' and to be brave. We always knew Chris was an alternative shepherd - now he's calling himself a Rebel Shepherd! In our short conversation, Debra totally lived up to her reputation as "someone who can educate, excite and entertain all at once" and we aim to lure her back to a future show after her next book is published, on the theme of gratitude, something we touch on and which is so easily omitted in the pressured business environment. If this episode has prompted any questions, please go ahead and ask - either email caroline@raisingthebaa.com or leave it in your review!Enjoy - and thank ewe for listening :-)Free resources:From Debra's website: E-book on how companies have played out their values during the pandemic; Engagement Bridge model workbook and much, much more - living up to her title of Chief Pay It Forward Officer! This week we have another fantastic guest. Glenn Elliott is the founder of Reward Gateway, a SaaS HR tech business, which two weeks ago sold for the third time, taking the total value of its acquisitions to well over half a billion dollars. Reward Gateway's platform enables companies used to better communicate with, reward and survey their employees and Glenn's experience there led him to write the book Build It : A Rebel Playbook for Employee Engagement in which he shared everything he'd learned about people and how to get the best out of them. He's now Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Tenzing Private Equity and his job to help their portfolio companies to grow through advising founders and mentoring Tenzings' team. You'll hear us talk about what Glenn's learnt from his experience scaling a tech company, how a decade of flexible work contributed towards their growth, why the notion of permanent employees is a fallacy and how even after the success he's achieved he still suffers from imposter syndrome.LINKS:Glenn's websiteReward GatewayTenzingReid Hoffman's HBR articleFuture Work/Life newsletter See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On this episode of Dreams with Deadlines, Jenny Herald interviews Vessy Tasheva, the founder of vessy.com, a Diversity & Inclusion, and Mental Health consultancy. Vessy works with clients across Europe and North America, such as Soundcloud, Reward Gateway, and Typeform, to create a healthier and more inclusive purpose-driven culture. D&I is at the peak of its popularity; however, most D&I leaders don’t last long in their positions, and there are many misconceptions about why D&I should even be a priority. D&I is often folded into Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), but this infers a lack of urgency. D&I efforts shouldn’t be performative or done out of obligation; the baseline is that employees feel like they belong, are safe, and valued, so they have an equal chance to succeed, and, in turn, the business can thrive. How, then, can we embed D&I in business strategy?

There was never going to be anyone else but Glenn Elliott as the first guest on The Hiring Partner Perspective (Unedited) and why will become very clear to you during the course of this episode. Glenn & I met when I ran the very first DisruptHR London event and he invited me to his offices to discuss how Reward Gateway could support the event. Glenn was totally in support of my decision to use sponsors to raise funds for Hope for Justice charity and RG has supported ever since not only as a sponsor but through the RG Foundation & Catrin Lewis's personal contribution. When you walk the floors of Reward Gateway you become awestruck by not only the kindness of their (now former) leader but how lovely all the staff are. It's something you want to bottle and take into every company! Besides the opportunity to ask Glenn - a CEO!! - why he read The Robot-Proof Recruiter twice, we also talked about how he got so good at hiring great people both at RG and now at Tenzing. Context & vulnerability... and a whole load more! Grab a pen & paper. Huge

Leading through a crisis used to be part of the conversation but now, in these times, it is the conversation. We’re in a health crisis, an economic crisis, and also a social crisis — and all are having a heavy impact on our workforces. And these strategies apply to any crisis — hopefully they won’t be as mammoth as what we’re facing as of late. The good news is that if leaders take the right approach they can help steer the company and their people through the maze of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety and be in far better shape when they come out on the other side of the crisis. That means being as transparent as you can be, communicating clearly and frequently, and being careful about the speed and velocity of any decision, or pivot. Leaders have had to oversee a dramatic shift to remote work in so many industries — and in others, they have had to find ways to help make their workforce safe. But these are all the factors of trust — and trust is the glue that’s going to hold your organization together, no matter the nature of your business, or the size of your workforce. Today I’m talking to Doug Butler, the CEO of Reward Gateway, on #WorkTrends. We’re going to be looking at how leaders bring their organizations through a crisis — and how to make the best decisions and changes to sustain yourself over the near term and the long term. Reward Gateway is an organization that has adaptability built right into its DNA, and it’s a great example of the kind of flexibility and forward thinking we all want to have in our own organizations. But the ability to survive a crisis has as much to do with each and every person in the organization, and with the leader’s capacity for empathy, ability to converse their energy, and to look forward with clarity.

Today we are going to talk about engagement. The term gets used a lot, and for good reason. Organizations spend so much money, time, and training getting the right people onboard. All of that vanishes when that employee walks out the door. In many cases, retaining employees is achievable with the right set of tools aimed at employee engagement. Today we are lucky enough to be joined by Gregg Lederman, President of Employee Engagement at Reward Gateway, the employee engagement people! He is also a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author. In October he released his most recent book, Crave: You Can Enhance Employee Motivation in 10 Minutes by Friday. Between his title and the title of the book, I think we can safely say that we are good hands when it comes to employee engagement.
According to Gallup, less than a third of Americans are engaged at work. Yet Gregg Lederman's clients at Brand Integrity and now Reward Gateway boast 90% engagement. And 65% of them are recognized as Best Companies to Work For. What's his secret? When Gregg's father's lack of purpose and engagement caused him to go into a depression, Gregg dove into the research on purpose. The insights he discovered about what we CRAVE helped his company to transform the cultures of their clients and even led to New York Times best-selling books! Tune in to this episode to learn about the ROI of employee recognition, why you shouldn't be afraid to give too much praise and how to make it strategic. Hint: It's NOT about memorizing the mission statement! Gregg Lederman is a highly-acclaimed speaker, New York Times best-selling author and the President of Employee Engagement for Reward Gateway, a global employee engagement company. He is also the founder of Brand Integrity, a leadership development and employee engagement company. For the past 16 years, Gregg has worked with leading organizations to put into practice sustainable engagement solutions that don’t just work… they matter. Take Time to Properly Motivate Your Team Shep Hyken sits down with Gregg Lederman to talk about his new book, Crave: You Can Enhance Employee Motivation in 10 Minutes by Friday (https://www.amazon.com/Crave-Enhance-Employee-Motivation-Minutes/dp/0979587514). They discussed how to replicate your best people and give them the happiness and motivation they crave and deserve. TOP TAKEAWAYS: •Your employees' attitudes and actions are affected by the three things they crave the most: 1. Respect: Respect them for who they are and what they do. 2. Purpose: Give them purpose, help them see that there’s meaning in their work and show them that what they do has an impact. 3. Relationship: Build a trusting and happy relationship with their leadership. •In less than 10 minutes a week, you can replicate what your best people are thinking, saying and doing by recognizing what you want to see more of and spotting the moments where your core values are in action. •There are three chemicals that Gregg calls the happy threesome of brain chemicals; dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin. They can increase employee happiness and motivation. •Recognition accelerates results. The first result is employee engagement. Employee engagement drives the work culture, and the work culture drives the customer experience. •Gregg shared a five-step process for building any habit, specifically the habit of recognizing employees: 1. Decide why it’s important to you. 2. Create the routines and schedule it in your calendar. 3. Determine any obstacles that may get in the way (time). 4. Focus on the personal and business benefits of forming this habit. 5. Track your effort daily. Glenn Elliott is the founder and Debra Corey is group reward director of Reward Gateway, a world leader in integrated employee engagement technology with more than 1,800 clients worldwide. Elliott and Corey’s new book, “Build it: The Rebel Playbook for World-Class Employee Engagement” (Wiley, Feb. 27, 2018), highlights practical improvements that organizations can make to build a highly engaged company culture. ----- Why would a successful entrepreneur rebel against common business practices? As Glenn Elliott explains in this podcast, it is imperative that we rebel against common models and age-old perspectives if we want our company to thrive and our employees to stay engaged. During his years as a software engineer and in other corporate settings, Glenn Elliott witnessed more than his share of employee disengagement in the workplace. Knowing that miscommunication breeds mistrust, he founded Reward Gateway in 2006 with a plan to restore engagement among those working in the financial services industry. He stepped down as CEO there in 2017 and currently consults and motivates businesses on ways to bring enthusiasm to the workplace. In this conversation, Glenn Elliott reminds us that engaged employees spend less time distracted, make better decisions, and frequently are a source for innovation. Glenn Elliott believes managers should be connected, humble, and honest to those who report to them. This principle should also apply to other units that have a direct impact on employees. As an example, he also discusses the challenges that many human resources departments face when tough HR decisions have to be made with lawyerly precision. We need to restore the human touch.
