In the village of Oosterbeek they have their photograph taken at a war memorial with the prophetic inscription 'Their Name Liveth For Evermore'. This is a snippet from Breaking Walls Episode 120: Radio and The Harvest (1936 - 1954) ____________________ Jim Jordan was born on a farm near Peoria, Illinois on November 16th, 1896. He met Marian Driscoll, a coal miner's daughter, at choir practice. She was born on April 15th, 1898. Both wanted a life in the theater. He studied voice and she played the piano. They were married on August 31st, 1918. By the 1920s Jim and Marion were performing together on stage, playing in small-town movie houses and lodge halls throughout the midwest. Their two children, Kathryn, and Jim Jr. were born at the end of Vaudeville tours. Vaudeville wasn't paying off. They went broke in 1923 and Jim went to work in a department store, but the Jordans couldn't stay away from the stage. Jim soon went to Chicago for a traveling musical show. In 1924 the couple debuted on the radio. Under that first contract, they were heard on WIBO as The O'Henry Twins for twenty-six weeks. From 1925 until 1927, they played over Chicago's WENR, gradually making the transition to comedy. They were heard in a children's show, The Air Scouts until December 31st, 1929 and both Jim's Grab Bag and Luke and Mirandy until 1931. Over this early period they developed dozens of on-air voices. In 1929 the Jordans met Don Quinn on The Farmer Rusk Hour. They became friends, with Quinn penning occasional gags for the couple. Their loose partnership led to success. On Luke and Mirandy, Jordan played a character named Uncle Luke, a fibber of sorts, and Marian was Aunt Mirandy, his wife. They starred in skits on The National Farm and Home Hour over NBC's WMAQ. This would last until 1935. They simultaneously were featured players in a soap opera, The Smith Family. It was this partnership that eventually led to Smackout.

Over waarom Wibo alle afwijzingen op zijn schrijfwerk aan zijn muur hangt en waarom Isabelle liever achter dan voor de camera staat. Over harde lessen geleerd én over dansen in een chinees restaurant. In deze (pilot)aflevering hoor en zie je: Wibo Kosters (1978) is een vijfpotenschaap: dichter, schrijver, af en toe muzikant, minimalismeblogger en performer. Hij is oud-stadsdichter van Deventer en publiceerde de poëziebundel 'inwoner', de roman 'radio transzoeloe' en een album met poëzie op muziek genaamd 'wegenkaart'. Hij was als maker aangemonsterd bij De Nieuwe Oost om een poëtisch-muzikale theatervoorstelling te maken. Isabelle Renate la Poutré (1990) is fotografe en filmmaakster. Ze voltooide de opleiding Multimediavormgeving (2011) en is daarna haar eigen blik op de wereld gaan onderzoeken. Daarbij kiest ze niet tussen film en fotografie maar kijkt ze zelf hoe ze het verhaal het beste kan vatten. In 2014 verscheen haar eerste documentaire ‘De weg naar jongvolwassen', gevolgd door diverse muziekdocumentaire-fotografie, reportages en portretten zoals “Being Typhoon… Every Day”. Momenteel werkt ze met De Nieuwe Oost aan een documentaire over de tweelingbroers Jeangu en Xillan Macrooy en Milaisa Breeveld. Drie jonge getalenteerde Surinamers laten alles achter om in Nederland hun droom om artiest te worden achterna te jagen. In Nederland worden ze omarmd als artiest, maar tegelijkertijd ze missen de warmte van thuis en moeten ze hard werken om in Nederland te mogen blijven.

Før var det alltid stas å ha en maler i huset sitt og maleren var som en kunstner å regne. Maleren kunne forvandle tre til marmor og utsmykke de vakreste motiver. Som en historiebok kan man lære mye av å skrape i malingens tynne sjikt hvor ofte 100 år med utvikling og perspektiver rundt faget og samfunnet kan anes. Der man skraper seg forbi trendfarger og plastsjikt kan man ende opp med å møte strukturen av 100 år gammel linoljemaling eller gammelt, saktevokst treverk. Her er hovedpulsåren i sjiktet. Genetikken og forankringen. Alle svar, retningsgivere og hint. I denne episoden av Leopodden har vi hatt en prat med Johnny Spangen som driver en unik fargehandel på Vålerenga i Oslo. Etter 40 år som malermester startet han Miljømal AS. Johnny har lang fartstid i bransjen og besitter mye kunnskap om faget og det tradisjonelle håndverket med linoljemaling. Linoljemalingen har nå lenge vært i skyggen av den plastbaserte malingen, men heldigvis blir den stadig mer og mer populær. Både blant de unge miljøbevisste og de som har antikvariske perspektiver er bevisstgjøringen rundt type tradisjonsmaling økende. Vi har lært mye om linolje, håndverket og historien bak malingsprodusenten Wibo i Göteborg. Johnny forteller om hva som gjør linoljemaling til et godt alternativ både innendørs og utendørs og hva som gjør den til en unik og god match til det beste treverk. Cam went tailgating and Mike accidentally exercised and it was all far too masc. Thankfully the conversation got real gay, real quick. This week the boys chat about ballet boys, birthdays, and what makes smell such a special sense. In the journal Mike documented the event he erroneously labeled a "donkey punch" way back in episode 4, and we dive a little deeper into Wibo's mischief.

This week the boys put a moratorium on discussing matters of the fecal variety then promptly abandoned it. Cam remembers an uncomfortable week at Christian summer camp, and Wibo offers Mike some dating advice. In the journal Mike is auditioning, waiting tables, feuding with his neighbors, and refusing to shi*t in a bucket. Unsatisfied, Cam puts his own spin on those entries.

In 1972 won AVRO-presentator Wibo van de Linde de grote televisieprijs van Cannes met een met verborgen camera gemaakte reportage over Staphorst, waar de Nederlands Hervormde Kerk vaccinatie tegen polio verbood. Tientallen kinderen werden ziek, vijf overleden.

FEEST! Dit is de 50e aflevering van Fab4Cast! En dat jubileum vieren we - hoe kan het ook anders - samen met de luisteraars. Zij vertellen Jan-Cees, Michiel en Wibo hun meest Memorabele Beatles Ervaring (afgekort, MBE…).

Het is de enige plaat in het Beatles-oeuvre met alleen maar Lennon & McCartney-songs. En na 50 jaar spat de energie er nog altijd van af. Jan-Cees, Michiel en Wibo bespreken de magie van het album A Hard Day's Night!

Met de release van 'The Apple Years 1968-75'-box is nu het gehele solo-oeuvre van George Harrison in opgepoetste vorm verkrijgbaar. Jan-Cees, Michiel en Wibo laten hun kritische licht schijnen over deze nieuwe box, vertellen achtergrondverhalen bij elk album en draaien een selectie bijzondere tracks!

The Beatles worden vaak geroemd om hun geweldige songs en bloedmooie stemmen, maar hoe goed waren ze eigenlijk op hun instrumenten? Jan-Cees, Michiel en Wibo bespreken en draaien de instrumentale versies van 14 Beatles-klassiekers. Blijven de nummers ook overeind zonder de zangpartijen?

In 1989 heeft Paul McCartney na een aantal flops weer een hit nodig. Flowers In The Dirt wordt destijds onthaald als een succesvolle comeback, maar heeft het album de tand des tijds doorstaan? Jan-Cees, Michiel en Wibo leggen Flowers In The Dirt op de operatietafel Èn draaien van elke albumtrack een alternatieve versie!

50 jaar geleden - op 7 februari 1964 - zetten The Beatles voor het eerst voet op Amerikaanse bodem. Jan-Cees, Michiel en Wibo reconstrueren die legendarische 2 weken aan de hand van bijzondere verhalen en archiefmateriaal. In dit eerste deel bespreken ze de periode t/m het eerste optreden in The Ed Sullivan Show.

Van George Harrison als solo-artiest kennen we natuurlijk kneiters als My Sweet Lord, All Those Years Ago en Got My Mind Set On You, maar wat bevindt zich onder de oppervlakte? Jan-Cees, Michiel en Wibo selecteerden elk 5 vergeten pareltjes uit de solocarrière van George.

In deze introductieshow verklappen Jan-Cees, Michiel en Wibo alvast 15 thema's die ze de komende tijd gaan behandelen. Uiteraard al met heel veel lekkere muziek en de nodige (mega interessante!) nerdpraatjes...

Jan-Cees, Wibo en Michiel praten in deze 'appetizer' aflevering een uur met Beatles-kenner Mark Lewisohn over zijn nieuwe boek 'Tune In'. De rest van de serie ga je - naast geklets - vooral veel (bijzondere) muziek horen; in deze aflevering is dat nog even niet het geval. Maar dat geeft niet, want je zult aan Marks lippen hangen!
