Wounded masculine energy is so entrenched in capitalism, the patriarchy… it's hard to know it's toxic. This is a reflection after doing my own masculine energy healing, reading Britney Spears' autobiography The Woman In Me (2023) and Emily Ratajkowski's My Body (2021), among other events. Chelsea Devantez is the host of the wildly popular ‘Glamorous Trash' podcast which discusses some of the most popular celebrity memoirs out there. She's also had an incredible career in TV and comedy (she's been one of Jon Stewart's head writers) and so much. We discuss what was left out of Britney Spears popular book ‘The Woman In Me,' and what Britney's most recent IG posts really mean? Chelsea and I seem to have a differing opinion on if Britney is mentally well or really stuck in a 16yr olds mindset? Plus, Chelsea sheds some insight into her incredible career and how she handles negative feedback from her audience and the internet. This is more than just a ghostwritten autobiography, it's Britney's ultimate manifesto of feminist rage. From the betrayal of having friends and family leverage her fame for their own agenda, to the unforgiving and relentless scrutiny she's faced simply for being human, Britney finally tells us her truth. A stark look at what happens when a teenage dream tries to break free from societal expectations, one thing remains clear; Britney's ultimate revenge is survival. And by the way, we are all complicit. To enter to win a copy of 'The Woman in Me,' simply rate and write a review of the pod on Apple Podcasts, screenshot, and DM us through Instragram @haveyouheardpodcast. Welcome to our podcast where we discuss and deliberate over memoirs and biographies found in thrift shops. This is a great way to do things as we are not choosing who to read about. We may not be fans of the person, we may never have heard of the person and we never know who we are going to find next...There are only 2 rules to this podcast. The book has to be found in a thrift shop and we are not allowed to talk about the book until we press record, which is sometimes agonising. We have lots of episodes coming up so if you find yourself enjoying our podcast, please be sure to subscribe to be among the first to hear about each episode.THANK YOU FOR LISTENINGSupport the show
This episode's close read of The Woman In Me covers chapters 28-33. We spend most of this episode discussing the early days of the conservatorship, as Britney details the isolation, misogyny, and hypocrisy she experienced under the restrictive legal framework. We also cover the two 5150 holds she was placed under at the beginning of 2008, her pre-conservatorship relationship with the "photographer," and put on our tasteful pantsuits to discuss what we think is one of the most memorable chapters of the book: Britney's thoughts about Lynne's book, Through the Storm.
For our final episode of the month we are discussing Britney Spears' memoir, The Woman In Me. This book was Dana's choice for the month of December. We rarely read celebrity memoirs so this was a very fun book to recap and analyze. We are going through the major moments in the book and discussing our favorite and least favorite elements of it. Also, as this is our year end episode, we are ranking the best books of the year. Enjoy! The next book is Margo's and she chose Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent. The overall Readheads rating for The Woman in Me is 3.4Submit a question or comment to us at thereadheadsbookclub@gmail.com.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this latest close read episode of the Woman In Me, we cover chapters 18-23: the KFed era. We discuss the fateful meeting at Joseph's, their whirlwind courtship, their wedding, Chaotic, the birth of their two boys, and their divorce (a tumultuous 2+ years for Britney). We do also discuss some work stuff, like her dislike of the Onyx Hotel tour and the recording of her masterpiece, Blackout.
Rivka and Frank discuss David Fincher's new hitman movie, The Killer, a thriller that explores the modern gig economy. They also chat about Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder's new TV series The Curse, the commodification of pop icon Britney Spears and her autobiography The Woman In Me, and whether it's ethical to enjoy stories about war, like Band of Brothers, which rules.

For our special book club episode today, we are discussing the new bestselling memoir – THE WOMAN IN ME by pop icon Britney Spears. As you know, Britney is a multiplatinum, Grammy-Award winning entertainer. She has sold an incredible 100 million records worldwide. She released her new book THE WOMAN IN ME around two years after she got free from the abusive and legally questionable 13 year long conservatorship during which her father and his team controlled her every move, every morsel, and every dollar, paying themselves handsomely, and more than she earned off the product that this one-time child star had become. Joining Jen to discuss this book are two legends in their own fields. Lisa Birnbach my long time idol, new time dear friend. Lisa is an award-winning journalist, cultural commentator and bestselling author. She also served as a witness at the E. Jean Carroll sexual assault trial against Donald Trump. If you are Gen X, you know Lisa from her runaway New York Times bestsellers: The Official Preppy Handbook and True Prep. Lis has published 20 other books, which have been translated into a dozen languages. I did not know The Preppy Handbook was a satire. It was my guide to life as a teenager. Victoria Haneman is my brilliant legal academy colleague. She has a very fancy title: the Frank J. Kellegher Professor of Trusts & Estates at Creighton University School of Law. Victoria is the real nerdy deal. She has authored four books related to estate planning and taxation, and also published more than twenty other works including among them law review articles, essays, and peer-reviewed book chapters. Victoria is a sought after expert, appearing on television, radio, and in print. Contact Booked Up: You can email Jen & the Booked Up team at: BOOKEDUP@POLITICON.COM or by writing to: BOOKED UP P.O. A few times a year, I like to let you listen in on the conversations we're having in the Secret Stuff patreon community. Each month we meet twice over zoom to talk about something culturally relevant (we call this Symposium) or to talk about books (a pretty traditional Book Club). This Secret Stuff meeting was a bit of a mashup of the two. When it was announced that icon and legend Britney Spears was releasing a memoir this fall, I knew it would make a splash in the publishing industry and in the celebrity world. And it did. The Woman In Me sold over a million copies in it's first week of release and there were a few bombshell's from the singer's life, most notably about her relationship with Justin Timberlake. But what is just as fascinating about the content of the book is the way she chose to tell it, and that she was able to tell it at all. After 13 years in a conservatorship held by father, where everything she did was tracked and controlled, Britney is finally free to share her side of the story. As usual, the Secret Stuff community had smart, thoughtful, and compassionate takes on the memoir itself and on Britney's place in music history and our pop culture lexicon. To join in on our next Symposium meeting, JOIN SECRET STUFF NOW You can always check out a FREE TRIAL OF SECRET STUFF to see if it's for you. On today's episode of Diet Starts Tomorrow, Remy and Emily discuss Britney Spears' new book “The Woman In Me.” Emotions are running high and spoiler, we are definitely mad at Justin Timberlake. The book details how her father tried to control her appearance, what she ate, how much she exercised… and well, everything. The two share memories of how their perceptions of Britney have evolved throughout the years which leads into a great conversation about body autonomy. If you're looking for BMD (Britney Memoir Discourse), baby, we got you over here at Las Cultch. Matt & Bowen discuss The Woman In Me, Britney's revelations and ruminations within the book, Michelle Williams's performance, and the backlash currently being faced by Justin Timberlake. Also, the hosts get into at Bethenny's big swing at Bravo and Andy Cohen in Vanity Fair, review Taylor Swift's 1989 (Taylor's Version), and send out the white light for the late Matthew Perry. All this, punctuation vulnerability, "chicanery", living in invisible squalor, gerunds, all these closeted gay guys in Hollywood playing in our face, the ubiquity and lessening effectiveness of "The Takedown Piece" in our culture, Wicked 20, the RHOBH premiere, the RHOP taglines, the wrestling singlet as gay Halloween costume canon, prosthetics on Halloween and when they've gone too far, and alcohol being absolutely everywhere.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
