In this episode Tom and Myron debate the merits of Avowel, the online version of Wordsy. Wordsy is a spelling game for folks who can't spell, but Tom was less than impressed with the online implementation which apparently only accepted correctly spelled words. Meanwhile, in Pathfinder with Chapter 1 now closed we look forward to what Chapter 2 has in-store for our adventurers. To begin we all got to level up to fourth level and pick some new goodies for our character sheets. Myron picked a cool animal companion for Chester, Anna got some new buffs for the party, and JT is still unimpressed with what the Rogue class has to offer. While the players were all preoccupied updating their character sheets Tom was busy creating the newly won guildhall and guildmaster - Reuben. Surely Reuben's introduction to the team will harrold new adventures for the party as we begin Chapter 2, titled Along the Unbroken Branch. It's a better example. 44m24s: The idea of affordances and signifiers from a design standpoint was popularized by Donald Norman in his book The Design of Everyday Things. This subject came up when we chatted with game designer and graphic designer Daniel Solis in Ludology 204 - The Eyes Have It. 45m11s: Kingdom Builder 47m39s: Seven Wonders 50m01s: The story of Lizzie Magie, Charles Darrow, and the way The Landlord's Game eventually became Monopoly is worth knowing about. Anya: anya@kickstarter.com, games@kickstarter.com, @anyayna Luke: @burning_luke, burningwheel.com Note that this episode was recorded on March 25, 2020, so if we talk about things happening "a few weeks ago," we're referring to late February/early March. This wouldn't normally be an important detail, but things are changing a lot quickly these days. SHOW NOTES 0m00s: Playtest safely online with Gil and Emma! 1m28s: For those who have never heard it, the MC5's "Kick Out the Jams" set a template for punk rock's sound well before its time.
