This week we continue our coverage of Age of X by reading X-Men Legacy #246, a comic that is so memorable I don't even need to think about it in order to write this description. It just all comes naturally. Legion is there! Probably. Reminder that you can read along with and ahead of the show by subscribing to Marvel Unlimited (we don't get paid for you doing that, so it's not an ad, it's just a cool service). You can also use Comixology, or buy the trades from your local comic book shop (the preferred method, if we're being honest). Be sure to check with your local library to see if they have them there! You can find one using this site (https://www.comicshoplocator.com/) Gary is on Twitter (https://twitter.com/garybuh), and Jeremy is too (https://twitter.com/jggreer). Duckfeed is on Patreon (https://patreon.com/duckfeedtv), which is a great place to support the show. Keep up with the podcast by checking out our Schedule Page (https://daysoffuturecast.com/schedule). Music by Gary, podcast art by our friend Wayne (https://twitter.com/onsideseven)

In this week's multiverse, we return to the pages of What If to see the post-apocalyptic world ruled over by Charles Xavier as the Juggernaut. It's Professor X with brain and brawn as he battles Magneto, Cyclops, Jean Grey and a non-powered Cain Marko. We also explore the Juggernaut's first appearance in 1965 and discuss how Charles and Cain's relationship has evolved over time with special guest James Enstall of Geek to Me Radio. Ep. 90 What if Professor X (Charles Xavier of the X-Men) had become the Juggernaut? With Special Guest James Enstall of Geek To Me RadioEarth-905 as seen in What If Vol. 2, #13It's a post-apocalyptic dictatorship where mutants rule and humans are hunted down. Who rules over this dark timeline? It's Professor Charles Xavier but with the powers of the Juggernaut! Possessing both mind and body supremacy, this twisted Professor X battles his former X-Men, Magneto and his step-brother Cain Marko for control over the planet in this week's alternate universe from the mind of comics legend Kurt Busiek! We also go back to 1965 to revisit the Juggernaut's first appearance courtesy Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Alex Toth and explore how Cain and Charles' relationship has evolved over time with X-Men Legacy from Mike Carey and Philippe Briones. We also discuss what makes Juggernaut such a great character, whether we like him as a villain or an anti-hero and what we'd like to see from a future film version. We were thrilled to be joined by special guest James Enstall from Geek To Me Radio for this trip. It's another three-for-one: three single-issue stories for your enjoyment! The Sandman and the Thing find they have more in common than their geologies in Marvel 2-in-1. The X-Pack are back with an interview with the devil himself -- sort of. Mike Carey has written X-Men Legacy, Lucifer, The Unwritten, Petrefax, Ultimate Fantastic Four, The Felix Castor novels, his recent Trial of Koli series, and so much more -- and now he graces X Is For Podcast! Full of can't miss moments peering into an incredible career, the interview covers lessons Mike's learned from collaborators like Alyssa Kwitney (!!!), the evolution of his process through his storied career, and how some of those highlights, including X-Men Legacy, even came to be!
On today's episode I talk to comics writer Si Spurrier. Raised just outside London, Si had a number of different jobs before he began writing for comics. He started with the British small press, after which, he created a number of series for the beloved UK cult comic 2000AD. This success led to work in the American mainstream, which includes runs on Hellblazer, X-Men: Legacy, X-Force, The Dreaming, and the GLAAD award-winning Star Wars: Doctor Aphra. It also led to the opportunity to write a great deal of creator-owned work here, such as The Spire, Coda, Alienated, Six-Gun Gorilla and much more - all of which are well worth your time. Recently, it was announced that Si would be writing a new book as part of Jonathan Hickman's revamped X-Men line! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter.
Bear, Jenn and Josh close out season one by talking about the Legion TV show in the context of Sy Spurrier's mind bending run on X-Men Legacy!
13th October 2019, Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal UK The Lakes International Comic Art Festival (LICAF) once again took over the town of Kendal in the UK’s picturesque Lakes District, with plenty of comics talent from across the globe appearing at numerous venues – from the Westmoreland Shopping Centre to the Brewery Arts Centre – to meet and greet with enthusiastic fans. The latter venue has a couple of stages including a full cinema/theatre space in which three master storytellers talked with Chris Thompson about the lure and appeal of the DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS system and roleplaying games in general: two regular players in the form of Becky Cloonan (THE PUNISHER, SOUTHERN CROSS, GOTHAM ACADEMY) and Andy Diggle (2000AD, THE LOSERS, HARDCORE) and also a relative noob to the scene, Si Spurrier (CODA, X-MEN LEGACY, STAR WARS). In this hour conversation, the group discussed their own history with role-playing games, how the nature of interactive storytelling informed their own narratives, and what they got creatively out of playing in their sessions. Thompson is quite experienced in playing D&D from an early age, too, so for Spurrier, this became the deep-dive introduction to role-playing that he felt he needed to get into the scene himself! Thanks to the team at Lakes International Comic Art Festival for hosting the session, and to Si, Becky, Andy and Chris for allowing me to record it.

The latter venue has a couple of stages including a cosy prestige auditorium, upon which three incredible writers appeared on the Sunday of the Festival to talk about the art and craft of creating comics at the very kernel of their conception: the ‘Writing Game’. Si Spurrier (CODA, X-MEN LEGACY, STAR WARS), Rob WIlliams (2000AD, DOCTOR WHO, SUICIDE SQUAD) and Garth Ennis (PREACHER, THE BOYS) were interviewed by Panel Boarders’ own Alex Fitch about their approaches to writing, their relationships with the other members of the creative team and how comics writing has changed and evolved for them since their formative years. This was a fascinating session with some real insight into the creative process from three of the best in the game! Thanks to the LICAF team for hosting the panel, as well as to Alex for his fine interviewing skills (also for providing additional clean audio which has augmented this upload).
