Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Tom Holland's fourth outing as Peter Parker/Spider-Man opened to a massively successful box office, shattering the domestic opening record previously held by Avengers: Endgame, and raking in nearly $1 billion globally in its first weekend alone - so while it beat Endgame's North American opening take, it comes in just behind it globally. Not a bad start for Disney and Marvel Studios as the conversation around superhero movies ebbs and flows in the zeitgeist. Those numbers exclude the premium IMAX format, as Spidey couldn't web up those screens due to The Odyssey still holding all IMAX screens. While Marvel is on their Spidey high, other headlines have circled the news this week - some good and some disappointing. On a positive note - Samara Weaving has reportedly been cast as Emma Frost. Horror fans will recognize Weaving from the Ready or Not films. Obsession breakout star Inde Navarette confirmed her meeting with Jake Schreier and she mentioned interest in playing Mystique. And for the bad news, Wonder Man will not get a season two after all - even though it was confirmed earlier this year - and both Kevin Feige and Maershala Ali expressed regret about the Blade film; with Feige admitting he feels like a failure for not getting it off the ground and Ali saying he's done with the project. Last week, DC Studios and HBO's Booster Gold series writer David Jenkins said that the project is no longer moving forward. Shortly after he made this statement, IGN reported that the series will, in fact, be moving forward, but with a new creative team. The New York Times reported that Barbie 2 is currently stalled, with Warner Bros. struggling to come to terms with lead talent Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling. The studio has until December to reach a deal before the right revert back to Mattel. Stephen King's 1996 novel Desperation is getting a film adaptation from Final Destination: Bloodlines directing duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. Sam Raimi will also produce the feature, his first time working with King. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, which opens in theaters on December 25. The film returns franchise stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Warhammer 40k animated event series alongside the upcoming live-action version, sources close to the project confirmed to Deadline. Additionally, Henry Cavill, who is set to star, is also on board to be an executive producer.Dave Bautista is in talks to take on the lead role of Kratos in Prime Video's God of War series, replacing Ryan Hurst, who had to drop out of production after he sustained an on set stunt injury. Mary Holland, Star of Ghosts and The Little House on the Prairie, has been cast in a lead role as Sandra in the upcoming DC Studios and HBO Max Superman spin off series that centers on Jimmy Olsen. In a recent interview with Inverse, Jessica Henwick revealed that she declined an offer to reprise her role as Colleen Wing in Daredevil: Born Again season three because she wants to protect the character's perfect ending in Netflix's Iron Fist.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the 38th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is the 15th movie in the Multiverse Saga and the second movie in the MCU’s Phase Six. I didn’t really follow most of that, but this next bit will be a little clearer, I think: Brand New Day is the 11th theatrically-released feature-length Spider-Man movie, and it’s the eighth movie to feature Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. In any case, between this and The Odyssey, people are going back to the movies. So that’s good. And: A new study has found that people were speaking about 28% fewer words per day in 2019 than they were in 2005. And that was before COVID! So what are we losing if we aren’t using our speaking voices as much anymore? SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY TRAILER BREAKDOWN & ANALYSIS!!! We're going LIVE to break down the official trailer for Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Brand New Day—the next chapter in the MCU's Spider-Man saga and one of the most anticipated superhero films of 2026. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), the film marks Tom Holland's return as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, following the emotional fallout of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the world forgot his identity. Set several years after those events, Brand New Day follows Peter as he continues protecting New York City completely on his own while uncovering a larger criminal mystery that could reshape his future as Spider-Man. The film brings back familiar faces including Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, while introducing major new players like Jon Bernthal's Punisher, Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner / Hulk, and Michael Mando's Scorpion, alongside new cast additions such as Sadie Sink. The trailer teases a more grounded, street-level story mixed with high-stakes Marvel action—featuring new villains, intense set pieces, and a deeper look at Peter navigating life completely alone. With hints of emotional reunions, evolving powers, and unexpected alliances, Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks to kick off a bold new era for the character as part of the MCU's Phase 6, ahead of the next wave of Avengers films. Join us as we react to every moment of the trailer, break down the biggest reveals, speculate on the story, and discuss what this means for the future of Spider-Man in the MCU! Episode 63 - Murdock and Marvel: 2002 Part 2 The world was a dangerous and frightening place, and America was trying to come to terms with how to move forward, both internally and on the world stage. And comics showed a lot of that anxiety. But even so, 2002 was a big year for all involved in the comics world, as sales of actual honest to goodness comic books actually rose 10% this year to 230 Million dollars, the first time that the industry had seen that occur since 1993, when comic sales had peaked at around 850 Million. And even as traffic in stores was increasing, Hollywood was starting to understand how to make comic properties work on the screen, both small and large. This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2002. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil #27-38, Daredevil: Yellow #6, Paradise X: Heralds #1-2, Elektra #6, Giant Size Mini-Marvels: Starring Spidey #1, Marvel Knight: Millennial Visions #1, Peter Parker: Spider-Man #39 and 41, Essential Marvel Team-Up #1, Paradise X #0-5, Marvel Knight #2-6, Marvel Knights Double Shot #1 and 4, Amazing Spider-Man #2, Ultimate Spider-Man Special #1, Order #5-6, Spider-Man/Daredevil #1, Marville #2 along with Marvel Masterworks: The Submariner #1 and Daredevil: Yellow, Fantastic First, Life and Death of Captain Marvel graphic novels Writing: Brian Michael Bendis (#27-38) Pencils: Alex Maleev (#27-37), Manuel Gutierrez (#38) Inks: Alex Maleev (#27-37), Manuel Gutierrez (#38) The year for Matt Murdock and Daredevil begins with a 6-part story called Underboss that began in December 2001. In that story we see a bombing attempt on Matt Murdock's life just outside of the courthouse and we see Sammy Silke and several of the Kingpin's other bosses repeatedly stab the kingpin leave him dying on the floor. So, who put a hit out on Matt Murdock and who is this Sammy Silke who rallied Kingpin's underlings against him? We start to get answers about this over the next 5 books through flashbacks while the story continues forward. Silke is the son of a crime boss in Chicago who needed to get out of town. He came to New York and went to work for the Kingpin – but when the Kingpin wouldn't let him put a hit on Matt Murdock – He caught wind of Murdock's seemly open secret within the Kingpin network and set in motion a plan to take out Murdock and Kingpin with the help of Kingpin's son – Richard. Vanessa Fisk finds out her husband has been stabbed and in critical condition (and not killed as reports claim). She goes to New York and despite objections from his doctor, wants Kingpin taken to the airport and flown out of the country. She also orders those that betrayed Kingpin to be killed -including her son Richard whom she visits and kills herself. Underboss ends with Silke, fearing for his life, turning himself into the FBI and asking for protection. When the FBI refuse, he tells them Murdock's secret identity. From there, things start to really go crazy for Matt Murdock. An FBI agent, needing some cash, sells Murdock's secret to the Daily Globe (the Bugle's rival paper) and it's ran as a front-page story and a media circus descents on Murdock's brownstone. Ben Urich and Peter Parker tell J. Jonah Jameson the DD secret identity story is a hoax but both refuse to tell him who DD really is; Foggy tries to get Matt to give up his life as DD. Seeing the story, Mr. Hyde shows up and starts destroying Murdock's house before Daredevil and Spider-Man can intervene. After some time away, Matt Murdock holds a press conference denying he's Daredevil. We'll jump into more detail about that during this week's spotlight. After a rooftop chat with Elektra at the urging of Black Widow, it looks like things will be settle with the Daily Globe after Daredevil visits the FBI agent who gave up his secret, but then the Globe owner Rosenthal nixes the deal because Murdock was being so smug about the agreement. The year ends with part 1 of the next named storyline, The Trail of the Century, which we'll talk about in 2003. Josh Hallam and Alice Oliver (Just Films & That podcast) return to Flixwatcher to review Josh's choice Spider-Man: No Way Home. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) is the third instalment of the Tom Holland Spider-Man Marvel/Sony franchise. Directed by Jon (Spider-Man: Homecoming) Watts, it sees Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man alongside Zendaya's MJ, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Directly following the events from Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker's identity as Spider-Man has been revealed by Mysterio. In an effort to restore things back to normal, Peter visits Dr Stange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast a spell to make Spider-Man's identity a secret again. When the spell goes wrong, it opens up the multiverse and unleashes several entities connected to Peter into this universe. Spider-Man NWH is the highest grossing Spider-Man film and saw Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprise their versions of Spider-Man alongside their respective villains. Some of which were included using previous footage rather than new footage. And now this rambling but too brief review of "Spider-Man: The Death of the Stacys", that collects "Amazing Spider-Man" #88-92 to #121-122, two of the most tragic events in Peter Parker/Spider-Man's life.
Let's go down the Paul Jenkins hitlist, shall we? He edited Eastman's and Laird's Mirage Studio books, including TMNT; he served as EIC for Tundra Publishing, Majestic Entertainment, and Scoreboard Comics; then he decided to write. Like many other British writers before and since, Paul broke in on a little Vertigo title called Hellblazer. Next, after some horror work at Marvel, he helped launch the Marvel Knights imprint with Jae Lee on the groundbreaking Inhumans limited series. Then it was off to the races with the introduction of The Sentry (also with Jae Lee), long runs on The Incredible Hulk and Peter Parker: Spider-Man, and a small project called Origin. Of course, that would be enough for someone's whole career, but Paul has continued writing for Marvel, DC, and Image, not to mention multiple video games and his own Kickstarter-backed series Fairy Quest. We're exhausted just thinking about his career! You can follow Paul on all the socials, including Twitter @mypauljenkins and Instagram @pauljenkinswriter. _____________________________________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you liked this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. Reel Comic Heroes: 151 - Spider-Man (94) Script Read We decided to do something a little different this episode and assembled some folks for a script read of the unmade ‘Spider-Man' from 1994. We're performing the 2nd revision by Joseph Goldman, James Cameron and John Brancato from 7/29/1993. This script would've eventually changed even more and would have become the version James Cameron planned to direct with Leonardo DiCaprio as Peter Parker. Ultimately, this project never got made (for several reasons) but we dusted off the script and gave it our best. Okey dokey.
