28 lutego 1944 r. ukraińscy żołnierze 4. Galicyjskiego Ochotniczego Pułku Policji SS, powiązanego z 14. Dywizją SS „Galizien”, oddziały UPA, nacjonaliści ukraińscy oraz ukraińscy mieszkańcy okolicznych wiosek, wkroczyli do wsi Huta Pieniacka zamieszkanej przez ludność polską. W wyniku przeprowadzonej przez napastników akcji pacyfikacyjnej, śmierć poniosło ponad 850 Polaków. Masakrę przeżyło około 160 osób.We wczesnych godzinach porannych 28 lutego 1944 roku Huta Pieniacka została otoczona przez oddziały wojska w sile około 500-600 żołnierzy ukraińskich formacji policyjnych SS. Dowodzili Niemcy. Po wkroczeniu do wsi, napastnicy zaczęli przeszukiwać zabudowania, a mieszkańców zgromadzili w kościele i szkole znajdujących się w centrum wsi. Ukraińcy rozpoczęli plądrowanie i grabież domów. Zabudowania podpalano. Wielu mieszkańców zostało zabitych podczas prób ucieczki z miejsc, w których się ukrywali. Po południu zgromadzonych w kościele i szkole Polaków wyprowadzano w kilkudziesięcioosobowych grupach i przeprowadzano w konwojach do drewnianych stodół i budynków gospodarczych znajdujących się we wsi. Ludzie byli w nich zamykani, a budynki były podpalane. Osoby próbujące zbiec lub stawiać opór, były zabijane. Żołnierze ukraińscy dopuścili się licznych zbrodni na polskich mieszkańcach Huty Pieniackiej. Wszyscy ci ludzie zostali zabici. 18 lutego 2026 r. Ministerstwo Kultury Ukrainy wydało ostateczną zgodę na prace poszukiwawcze na terenie dawnej wsi Huta Pieniacka, na podstawie wniosku złożonego przez ukraińskiego partnera Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej, którym jest przedsiębiorstwo „Wołyńskie Starożytności”. Decyzja została poprzedzona zaakceptowaniem przez Lwowską Obwodową Administrację Państwową przedstawionego jej 17 października 2025 r. programu prac poszukiwawczych.Decyzja władz ukraińskich kończy blisko siedmioletnie starania Instytutu o uzyskanie pozwolenia na poszukiwanie grobów ofiar zbrodni dokonanej 82 lata temu, której rocznica przypada za kilka dni. Działania IPN podejmowane były w ścisłej współpracy z rodzinami ofiar skupionymi wokół Stowarzyszenia Huta Pieniacka, przy szczególnym zaangażowaniu prezes stowarzyszenia p. Kilka dni wcześniej, 23 lutego, w okolicy wsi doszło do potyczki oddziału samoobrony z Huty Pieniackiej z patrolem policyjnym złożonym z Ukraińców służących w 4 Pułku Policyjnym Dywizji SS „Galizien”. W wyniku walk dwóch żołnierzy ukraińskich zginęło, a ośmiu zostało rannych. W starciu wzięły też udział oddziały UPA wspierające żołnierzy SS. Niemcy urządzili ofiarom tych walk uroczysty pogrzeb w Brodach.Oddział SS pojawił się Hucie Pieniackiej w związku z uzyskaniem przez Niemców informacji, że we wsi stacjonował oddział partyzantów radzieckich, z którymi współpracowali mieszkańcy. Partyzanci opuścili jednak miejscowość 22 lutego.Po starciach z 23 lutego mieszkańcy Huty Pieniackiej przygotowywali się do mającej nastąpić niemieckiej akcji odwetowej. Wywiad Inspektoratu AK w Złoczowie w nocy z 27 na 28 lutego przekazał oddziałowi samoobrony w Hucie Pieniackiej dowodzonemu przez Kazimierza Wojciechowskiego, że do wsi zdążają oddziały 14 Dywizji SS „Galizien”. Zalecono, aby nie stawiać oporu, ukryć broń i mieszkańców. Liczono, że oddziały SS jedynie skontrolują wieś, poszukując broni i kontaktów mieszkańców z radziecką partyzantką. Podobna akcja miała miejsce kilka dni wcześniej we wsi Majdan, gdzie obyło się bez ofiar.We wczesnych godzinach porannych 28 lutego 1944 roku Huta Pieniacka została otoczona przez oddziały wojska w sile około 500-600 żołnierzy ukraińskich formacji policyjnych SS. Dowódca oddziału samoobrony Kazimierz Wojciechowski został oblany łatwopalną substancją i podpalony.Po południu zgromadzonych w kościele i szkole Polaków wyprowadzano w kilkudziesięcioosobowych grupach i przeprowadzano w konwojach do drewnianych stodół i budynków gospodarczych znajdujących się we wsi. Ludzie byli w nich zamykani, a budynki były podpalane. Osoby próbujące zbiec lub stawiać opór, były zabijane. Spalono praktycznie wszystkie zabudowania w miejscowości, z wyjątkiem kościoła i szkoły, gdzie przetrzymywano zatrzymanych. Późnym popołudniem napastnicy opuścili Hutę Pieniacką.18 lutego 2026 r. Ljudje se kar naenkrat odpravljajo na množičen lov za cenenimi izdelki in svoje najdbe tudi ponosno delijo. Kje drugje kot na družbenih omrežjih. Ko plen postanejo ultrapoceni izdelki, vprašanje kakovosti niti ni več pomembno. Današnje potrošništvo je na točki, ki je že davno presegla temeljno človeško nujo in potrebo. Nakupujemo preprosto zato, ker lahko, ne zato, ker nekaj potrebujemo. Ko se je svet v času koronavirusne bolezni preselil na splet, je tudi to postala naša prevladujoča nakupovalna izkušnja. Računalniki, predvsem pa naši prenosni telefoni, so postali hitra vstopna točka v svet potrošništva. Naj bodo to ciljno usmerjeni oglasi, objave prijateljev ali celo vplivnežev, ki svojim sledilcem predvsem v videu prikažejo veliko količino nakupljenih izdelkov, ki jih – tako pravijo oni – preprosto moramo imeti.
