Brett Booth has established himself as one of the industry's most dynamic and energetic artists, known for his kinetic action sequences and distinctive character designs that have graced the pages of numerous titles for both DC and Marvel. Beginning his career at Jim Lee's Homage/Wildstorm studio in the early 90s, Brett co-created Backlash and had a long run on his solo series before moving on to work for the big two. His runs on books including Fantastic Four, X-Men Unlimited, Teen Titans, and Nightwing showcase his distinctive style that balances detailed linework with explosive energy. Currently, Brett is bringing his high-octane visual storytelling to Todd McFarlane's Spawn, where he's helped breathe new life into the long-running series, capturing both the supernatural horror elements and intense action sequences that define the character. You can follow Brett on X @Demonpuppy, Instagram @brettbooth_comicart, or Bluesky @brettbooth.bsky.social.Support the show

We're talking about Old Dog and ThunderCats today on the Cryptid Creator Corner as I welcome Declan Shalvey to the podcast. I was lucky enough this past March to celebrate my 45th birthday in Ireland and as part of the celebration go to Dublin Comic Con and meet Declan. I knew once I was back home I had to get Declan on the podcast to chat about comics. We discuss his early days in comics, Dublin Comic Con, plus some of his work like Savage Town, Bog Bodies, Time Before Time, Old Dog, and ThunderCats. It was great hearing about Declan's approach to storytelling, both writing and art. I could have chatted with Declan for another 2 hours, but Penny came upstairs while recording to tell me the laundry room "smells like burning" and I had to wrap things up to investigate. Be sure to check out Declan's website and sign up for his very excellent newsletter. I've been very lucky recently to chat with some of my favorite creators working in comics right now and I think you're going to enjoy listening to this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it. Thundercats from the publisher: Fleeing through space to escape their dying home world, the ThunderCats were attacked en route by their mortal enemies, the Mutants of Plun-Darr. After diverting their damaged flagship to a planet called Third Earth, the surviving ThunderCats now strive to rebuild their society in harmony with the new world's natives. But the Mutants, determined to possess the ThunderCats' mystical gem, the Eye of Thundera, have tracked them down - and they've also forged an alliance with Mumm-Ra, the devil-priest of Third Earth! Now the ThunderCats, led by an inexperienced Lion-O, must band together as never before to protect their legacy from this combined enemy. But will they be able to withstand the onslaught of Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living, once he sets his eyes upon them? The triple-threat talents (writers, artists, and ThunderCats superfans) of DECLAN SHALVEY and DREW MOSS join forces to bring this exciting new entry in the ThunderCats canon to life! Old Dog from the publisher: Jack Lynch was a once-promising CIA operative. On the eve of retirement, looking back at a failed career, he is tasked with one final mission...that goes horribly wrong. He wakes years later to a changed world and deeper changes within him. When a shadow group offers Lynch a second chance at a life of adventure, he's paired with the last person he could ever imagine. In order to adjust, this old dog will have to learn some new tricks... OLD DOG is a striking new spy-fi series by DECLAN SHALVEY, the accomplished and innovative creator behind books such as Moon Knight, X-Men Unlimited, INJECTION, and TIME BEFORE TIME. Long before Moira MacTaggert made dying cool in House of X, she died in the comics — OH! but I guess it was fake. Anyway, let's read that story. Will comics: Planet Hulk, Murderworld, Secret Invasion, Spider-Man. Steve comics: Dream's End (Uncanny X-Men #388, Cable vol 2 #87, Bishop: The Last X-Man #16, X-Men vol 2 #108), X-Men Unlimited vol 1 #30, X-Men: Declassified.
A whole slew of comics coming in a few days later than we aim for. Dealing with death - or not - the X-Men story. Magneto is suffering as Storm arrives to help him through his mental anguish. Wolverine's ability to deal with death comes into question as he deals with the living much more easily (surprise he stabs them). The Dead X-Men now have a whole new Moira problem of their own creation and we get DEEP in on the logistics of their time travel impacts. Iron Man makes a bigger Iron Man and the Cables are off doing their own thing. Some fallout in X-Men Unlimited as the Externals get restless. The boys kick of Mutant Madness with a little X-Menswear; they rate their top/bottom (nice) episodes of X-Men: the Animated Series; they guess who's gonna be on Rogue and Kate Pryde's upcoming x-teams; and they review this week's x-books: Resurrection of Magneto #2, Dead X-Men #2, Cable #2, Iron Man #15, Wolverine #44, and X-Men Unlimited #128. Plus plugs! This is the all Portuguese issue.
Brain explosions outside time and space! Trying to make sense of it all as we read through it and BOOM another twist. What's your name for the new Doug? And over in X-Force, the team is taking a no nonsense approach to our new bouncing blue friend as his other brews something big beneath the surface. Plus in X-Men Unlimited we get a standoff battle with a side of poetic depression. A short stack that packs a punch as all the villains cook up that Murder Science! Orchis is on full display in X-Men.
