My interview with the distinguished poet and author Kenneth Maswabi. He and I had originally met on Zoom on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST) or 7:00 PM Central Africa Time (CAT). Bio I am a 47 year old citizen of Botswana, Africa. I'm a General Practitioner /Medical Doctor by profession. My interest in Poetry is more spiritual as I find poetry as a medium that connects people at a spiritual level. I didn't study Poetry, I found myself writing poetry every time I was in a certain state of mind. It's like poems just flow through me. I don't plan or research topics or themes, it's just dependent on events that are happening in my life or the world. In 2021, I published a Poetry book called "Love, Consciousness and Humanity: The Path of Silence: The Shadowless Dreamer." My special guest on the Tuesday, April 2, 2024 episode of the QLPORYT podcast will be acclaimed poet and author Ray Whitaker. Ray has been writing both prose and poetry since he was seventeen. What Ray is writing now is very different from what he wrote so many years ago. All writers and poets are writing out of "the Self" however there are directions that the self speaks into, that change. Now Ray's writing is to put foremost in his work, just who he is writing for. He intends on writing for the everyday man and woman. He firmly believes that poems need to reach into the everyday person's pictures in their minds, and engage with those. This is where he aims to make a difference in his creative writing. He's fulfilled when he sees that his work is provoking thought in his readers.

Bio I was born in Folsom, CA. My childhood was filled with running with the cross-country team through the suburban neighborhoods, trampolining in the backyard, and lots of road trips to LA county. I started writing narrative stories when I was 10 years old. They always told of a tragic hero who died in the heat of action. My poetry started blossoming as a senior in college when I took Poetry 101. The group critique sessions were a place of freedom for me to share my imagination through zany and erratic imagery. My professor urged me to reign in my ideas. Provide a stable field for the reader, she told me. I gained a more precise ear for pleasing phrases by listening intently to my classmates' offerings. Poetry continues to poke in and out of my life. I believe in not holding a knife to my own throat to produce a defined sort of writing. Instead, I allow my writing to wander from poetry to short stories to song lyrics. I want to cherish this explorative phase, allowing a wide range of voices to sound on the page. My electronic music (Dungeon_Angel_Baby by Gargon on all streaming platforms) represents my inclination towards the fun and the freaky. The insolent little monster inside me dares anyone brave enough to listen. I hope you tune in. Much more introspection on record coming soon. Thank you to Dr. Michael Anthony Ingram for inviting me to share my poetry on the show. I hope listeners enjoy my offerings. Stephen C. Pollock is the author of the poetry collection Exits, published by Windtree Press. The book nods to the literary traditions of years past while simultaneously speaking to the present moment. It responds to contemporary anxieties surrounding death and the universal search for meaning in life's transience. Influenced by Dr. Seuss, Pollock began writing rhymed poems at age nine. In high school, he maintained a poetry journal as part of his sophomore English curriculum, and at Amherst College, he took four rigorous poetry courses. During his final semester at Amherst, in an act of love masquerading as mania, he stopped attending classes, isolated himself from friends, ate and slept reluctantly, and spent five straight weeks writing a metaphysical poem on the theme of subjective vs. objective reality. His professional career was a play in two acts. Trained as a physician, Pollock was recruited to Duke University as Chief of Neuro-Ophthalmology in 1987. His clinical practice consisted of evaluating and caring for patients with complex ocular manifestations of neurological diseases. He also trained ophthalmology residents and fellows, and he published a number of clinical and research papers in the medical literature. Prior to leaving academic medicine, he achieved a rank of Associate Professor with tenure. After seventeen years, Pollock left Duke to become chief executive of CEC (cecvision.com), a nationwide company that provides vision benefits to individuals and their family members. He retired after the company was sold in 2019. Pollock has occasionally dabbled in engineering and technology as well. He wrote U.S. Patent 4,477,158, Lens System for Variable Refraction, and he also designed an instrument that's used to biopsy inaccessible tumors of the orbit and brain.
