In August 2008, two Grant County men were killed just hours apart after unknowingly plugging in devices that had been rigged to explode.William "Bill" Walker, a retired electrician, found a battery charger outside his shop and brought it inside. When he plugged it in, the device exploded. Less than 10 hours later, Javier "Harvey" Adame was killed when an explosive device hidden inside a police scanner detonated inside his home. The victims appeared to have no connection. Investigators from the Grant County Sheriff's Office, FBI, and ATF determined the devices were likely built by the same person, but nearly two decades later, no arrests have been made and no suspect has been publicly identified. Why were these men targeted? Were they the intended victims? And who planted the deadly devices that terrorized a rural Washington community? In this episode of Cold Case Files, NonStop Local examines one of the most baffling unsolved murder investigations in Inland Northwest history. This case was seen as a test case for harsher enforcement by the Trump administration against protestors, and now there’s a verdict. Three anti-ICE protestors have been found guilty of federal conspiracy charges. The case had to do with a demonstration outside of the Spokane ICE office last June. The protest was part of a wave of anti-immigration actions that popped up across the country. The day after the protest in Spokane, the Trump Administration started cracking down on immigration protests by instructing prosecutors to charge non-violent demonstrators with conspiracy. So what happens now to these convicted protestors? And what does this mean for future political marches or demonstrations? True Blues Rock And More From Colin Burgeson His New Allbum Is Sunshine Into Shadow

Colin Burgeson is a blues/rock guitarist, singer and songwriter from Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. His music blends soulful blues, catchy rock n' roll guitar riffs and soaring melodic leads to create a sound that can be both relaxed and slow, and upbeat and energetic. In his guitar and vocal work, you'll hear a sound influenced by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Gary Moore, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and much more!            Colin developed a love for music starting at a young age, primarily from watching his father, Eric Burgeson. Eric was a career musician who spent time in the late 80s touring with British rock band Foghat. He began taking guitar lessons from his father at age 9 and started writing songs and joined his first band by age 15. After his first band dissolved, he focused on his studies for a few years and briefly pursued a career in law enforcement.            But his passion for music never faded, and he continued to write music and hone his guitar skills until teaming up with longtime friend and bandmate Seamus Gleason, who would later perform drums on his debut solo album, to form heavy metal band Knight of Tears. The band would spend the next two years performing at various venues and festivals in the inland northwest, and released a self titled EP in 2016.             As Knight of Tears became inactive in the summer of 2016, an opportunity arose, and Colin successfully auditioned for and joined Spokane hard rock band Invasive. He would spend the next three years with Invasive, touring throughout Idaho, Washington and Oregon, opening for popular touring acts such as Quiet Riot, Steel Panther, Metal Church and more, and contributed guitar tracks to the singles “Sea of Black” and “Scars.” After vocalist Gary Cook left the band in 2019, the remaining members would reconvene to form hard rock/heavy metal band Psidium. Psidium would release the album “Blood in the Water” in 2021, which led to Colin's initial partnership with Pavement Entertainment.            While he enjoyed writing and performing in the hard rock and heavy metal style he had been doing for the past several years, he eventually discovered that it was no longer his passion. After listening to records by Joe Bonamassa, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore, he decided to pursue a solo career in blues and blues-rock music, while also developing himself as a lead vocalist and frontman. During the recording of their second album in 2022, Psidium would become inactive, and he would go on to join classic rock cover band Laketown Sound and finish writing what would become his debut solo album. Psidium officially disbanded in 2023, and Colin shifted his focus to his solo career, completing the album in the fall of 2025.            Currently, Colin is performing at festivals and events in the Inland Northwest with Laketown Sound, while preparing to release his debut solo album, “From Sunshine Into Shadow,” with tour dates and performances to follow!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The primary focus of today's discussion centers on the severe weather conditions affecting the Inland Northwest and the Pacific Northwest, characterized by strong winds capable of causing significant damage. We elucidate the National Weather Service's warnings regarding gusts that may lead to the downing of trees and power lines, thereby creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Furthermore, we advise individuals residing in the affected areas to secure loose outdoor items and to prepare for potential power outages while exercising heightened caution on exposed roads. Additionally, we provide a brief overview of the routine seismic activity recorded by the US Geological Survey, noting the occurrence of small earthquakes across various regions, including Southern California. In our concluding remarks, we remind our audience to remain vigilant and prioritize safety amidst these challenging weather circumstances.Takeaways:* The National Weather Service has issued warnings for strong winds across the Inland Northwest and Pacific Northwest.* Residents in affected areas should secure loose outdoor items and prepare for potential power outages.* Small earthquakes have been routinely recorded in Southern California and other regions in the west.* High wind warnings in Oregon indicate gusts that can cause significant travel hazards for high profile vehicles.* Winter weather advisories in North Central Washington may impact morning commutes due to accumulating snow.* Overall, no significant updates were reported from other states in the last 24 hours.Sources[USGS Latest Earthquakes | https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/][NWS Watches/Warnings text | https://www.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=otx&wwa=all][NWS Watches/Warnings text | https://www.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=otx&wwa=all][NWS Portland forecast office update | https://www.weather.gov/pqr/][NWS Watches/Warnings text | https://www.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=otx&wwa=all] This is a public episode. Please welcome my guest today, dentist Josh Cochran, who didn't just build the largest general dental group in the Inland Northwest, he built a real estate empire while he was at it. After selling a stake in his thriving dental practice, he set his sights on commercial real estate, starting with medical retail development before getting involved in ground-up multifamily projects worth over $125 million.   The Accidental Developer Josh has an interesting background in that he didn't just lease space for his dental offices, he built them and, in the process, he discovered he had a knack for development. What started as a necessity quickly became a passion, leading him to acquire land, structure deals, and transform raw dirt into ground up developments.   Scaling Up to Multifamily Retail development had its challenges, but Josh knew where the market was heading. He pivoted to multifamily, securing land, entitling projects, and working with institutional capital partners to develop over 450 units across five projects. Along the way, he raised millions from investors, balancing capital allocation with active development.   Raising Millions While Protecting Investors With a network of high-net-worth investors, many from his dental background, Josh built a capital-raising system. He is hyper-focused on due diligence, personally vetting deals, sponsors, and market fundamentals before committing capital. His slow and steady approach has helped him safeguard investors from the risky, overleveraged deals that have sunk others.   Lessons from the Trenches Josh shares the hard-earned lessons from his transition, including: Why development takes longer than you think—but is worth the wait The biggest fundraising mistakes investors make (and how to avoid them) How he structures deals to align incentives and mitigate risk The power of relationships in CRE and why “going deep” is better than broad diversification.   *** From running a successful dental practice to structuring nine-figure real estate deals, Josh's journey proves that the right mindset and strategic partnerships can open the door to CRE success. Charlie discusses the four key areas of focus for 2025: driving revenue, continued innovation, operational efficiencies, and ensuring fortress security. He also discusses longer term future plans like the 2030 vision to grow to $500 Million. He emphasizes the importance of the pioneering spirit, encapsulated by the word "Pioneer," which was chosen as the company's 2025 word of the year. This encapsulates the aim to be innovative and exploratory in their endeavors. Charlie further engages the audience with thought-provoking exercises that demonstrate the power of compounding and investing in oneself. Through interactive dialogue, he illustrates the potential of small, consistent improvements leading to significant growth. This aligns with Broad River's philosophy, which values goal-setting and strategic planning to achieve long-term growth. Charlie reiterates the importance of Memory Makers in realizing these goals, noting that the company's success hinges on their growth and development. Overall, this episode serves as both an informative and a motivational session, aiming to prepare the finance department, fondly known as "Knights of the Ledger," for future challenges and opportunities. 21:24 "Nobody ever drifted to a destination they would have chosen." -Michael Hyatt 28:05 "If someone offered you a penny that doubles every day for 30 days or a million dollars today, which would you take?"  32:09 "If you improve by 1% every day, within a year you will have improved 365%. Think about that"  33:57 "When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split into two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before." - Jacom Riis The Stonecutter's Credo 34:27 "The best investment you will ever make is in yourself." In this special episode of Stories from the River, Manny Rodrigues, Presiden & COO of Broad River Retail, welcomes Charlie Malouf, CEO of Broad River Retail, and host of the podcast, into the studio. The discussion focuses on a significant new venture for Broad River Retail: the planned expansion into Spokane, Washington, and the Inland Northwest, scheduled for late 2025 or early 2026. Charlie explains that the decision to move into a 101,000 square foot former Macy's at NorthTown Mall in Spokane was driven by a chance conversation with an executive from Ashley Global Retail. The venture represents a strategic expansion aimed at broadening Broad River's traditional aperture relative to new markets and seizing new growth opportunities. The project is known as "Project Cascade" because it involves an attempt to expand and replicate Broad River's culture and operational methods far from its current geographical base, and the Cascade Mountains are nearby geographically. Charlie highlights the rationale behind choosing Spokane as a market, citing the opportunity to select prime real estate and the potential of the greater market area, which boasts a population approaching one million. The project will include a dual-store concept featuring a 7.0 Ashley Store with an Ashley Outlet and an expansive Sleep Shop on the 3rd floor.  In fact, the Spokane store will be the first multi-level, multi-floor store that Broad River will open.  Manny and Charlie emphasize the importance of executing this venture in the "Broad River Way," ensuring a blend of cultural values and operational excellence. This expansion provides growth opportunities for current Memory Makers, with several already expressing interest in contributing to the success of the Spokane store.  This episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/2Q_H3Mjltjk  Visit https://www.storiesfromtheriver.com for more episodes. If you're newer to the STR space, or if your listings are starting to drop in rank, I want to encourage you all to do one of two things — if not BOTH — of the following: Buy Daniel's new book, “Profitable Properties: Airbnb Insider Secrets” — you can get it on Amazon for just $10 Join Daniel's 9-week program and he'll teach you everything you need to know about optimizing your STR for Airbnb, VRBO, Google Search, and beyond.  You can use the discount code BTS for 40% off the program between now and the end of the 2023 calendar year.
