Developing a family photography business is rarely a straight path. Like most careers, it's likely that there are some steps that are calculated and some that take us completely by surprise. That's what happened to my guest on the show today, the lovely Morgan Williams, based out of Raleigh, North Carolina.   She focusses on in-home photography with families and newborns and teaches other photographers how to create the work they were created to create, but before she could do that for others, she had to figure out how to do it for herself.   In this conversation we talk about how and why she made the switch from almost exclusively photographing weddings to exclusively photographing families and newborns. We also dive into what it's like to build a business while raising babies and I believe that every time an artist that gets a little more real with what that looks like in their own story, the more we all collectively sigh a little relief in camaraderie knowing we are not alone.      Links discussed:  Preserving everyday magic: in-home family photography group coaching program Flourish retreat and mastermind (a 6 month mastermind designed to show you how to discover your unique creative purpose and flourish in all areas of your life!) The advice gap is ever-growing and as a profession, financial advisers have a role to play. But is it solely up to the financial services industry?A recently conducted poll on Twitter asked financial advisers what their views were on financial education in schools and whether it should be a collective effort by the advice / financial services industry or whether the onus should be on schools and the government. More than half of the advisers said schools need to do more, around 32% said advisers need to help and some 13% said it's not advisers' problem.Collaboration seems to be a key necessity here in order for it to work and many of the larger financial advice businesses are already trying to do their bit, but what more can be done to reduce the advice gap and increase financial literacy? This week FTAdviser deputy news editor Sonia Rach talks to Mina Karshala, board trustee at Young Enterprise, Jade Rose, wealth planner at Kingswood Group and Daniel Williams, IFA at Morgan Williams & Co and the current PFS Education Champion of the Year. They discuss the extent to which schools and government have a role to play, how advisers can contribute and help and they also touch on the role of social media. This season we are talking all about impact – the people and experiences that have impacted us, the ways we are impacting others, and what we can all do to build confidence in our ability to make a difference. We are so grateful to be joined by mother/daughter duo Brenda and Morgan Williams. Brenda and Morgan established the Cameron Russell Williams Legacy Scholarship at the Eccles School, in honor of their son and twin brother, who passed away from a brain tumor in June 2021 at the age of 33. Cameron made a massive impact in his short lifetime, emerging as a star and innovator at Goldman Sachs and Utah tech firm Domo and starting his own transportation logistics company, EverWoke. A civic leader and advocate for underrepresented communities, Cameron also served as Chair of the Utah Black Chamber of Commerce and as an advisory board member of the Young Professionals of Salt Lake City and Utah Chapters of the National Association of Black Accountants and National Society of Black Engineers. In this episode, both Brenda and Morgan join host Frances Johnson to share their favorite memories of Cameron, how they continue to honor his personal and professional legacy, and what it means to carry on his memory throughout Utah. Eccles Business Buzz is a production of the David Eccles School of Business and is produced by University fm.Episode Quotes:The courage to move forward despite the fears[19:53] Morgan Williams: Entrepreneurship, just as a role, is scary. I made a decision on my own that I was going to figure this out. That's scary. Everyone said, "Morgan, you don't have to do this." "Morgan, do you even know how to do this?" Regardless of all the fears, I decided to move forward anyway. And to me, that's a part of the confidence needed as an entrepreneur and a sister carrying on a brother's legacy. The impact you made is measured by the lives you've touched[26:52] Brenda Williams: At the end of the day, when you are no longer here on this planet, the impact you make is measured by the people that you have touched and the things that they continue to do. And that is how we, as a family, look at Cameron's very short life.On writing your own story[24:49] Morgan Williams: It is not always about creating the next new big thing, but it is about deciding what story you want, writing that story. And if you need a little plot twist here and there, go ahead and do it. And then make sure you share it so others can be inspired by it as well and change possibly their story as well.On Cameron's desire for impact[06:16] Brenda Williams: Cameron's desire for impact is something that is part of the value system of this family. We have a saying in our family: Never stop thinking. Always look for new ways to do things. No is just a statement. It's not necessarily the answer. And so there may be another way to look at and do things. And from the time they were little children, that is what they were taught.Show Links:Cameron Russell Williams Legacy Scholarship - David Eccles School of BusinessCameron Russell Williams Diversity Impact ScholarshipDomoMorgan Williams LinkedInEverwokeBlendyd StudiosUtah Chapter - National Association of Black Accountants Utah Chapter - National Society of Black EngineersUtah Black ChamberNBA FoundationNBA All Star WeekendNBA All Star Pitch CompetitionMaster of Business Creation - David Eccles School of BusinessKenneth Boggs Suits

New Local Government Minister Kieran McAnulty has been asked to refine the policy, but Prime Minister Chris Hipkins says the need for reform is unquestionable. Water New Zealand Chief Executive Gillian Blythe says the commentary has focused too much on co-governance. She told Kate Hawkesby we need to remember the words of a Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment more than 20 years ago. Blythe says Morgan Williams said the model is not fit for purpose, and the longer we leave it to address, the harder it will get and the more complex it will be. My friend Morgan Williams is an absolute star. He does a lot. So much. An absolute ideas man and entrepreneur, and if you follow him on the socials, which you absolutely should, it is one great idea after the next. Morgan was the co-producer for many years on the wildly successful New Zealand children's program, What Now, and also had a principal role in what I think is one of the best zombie movies to come out of Otautahi Christchurch, Last of the Living. He is currently studying Nursing, as well as pushing a men's underwear range, hosting drive-in movies with a huge inflatable screen, distilling gin and making kimchi. When I lived in Otautahi in the pre-Conversation with a chef days, I used to have a show on a local radio station called Volcano FM. I interviewed people who were passionate about what they did. I loved it. There is something so thrilling about talking to people who love what they do and know all about it. So really I have been angling to talk to Morgan for ages and now that he has branched into food, I had my chance. I loved our chat and I do apologise for the at times uproarious laughter, but I'm kinda hoping you might join in.

Tips on how to turn your B2B prospects into customers with Morgan Williams In B2B sales you need to get in front of your ideal prospects and talk to them, help solve their problems and start the sales process.  Cold email is not spam. Spam is sending out irrelevant messages to people at high volumes. Cold email is reaching out to a business or to a person with a relevant message where they have no prior knowledge of you. Please follow up more. Anyone, please follow up more. If you follow up several times, you will have increased response rates, I promise you. Intent data is becoming a really hot topic in the B2B space. And essentially what intent data allows you to do is find people who are actually in the market for the services you have to offer. You're literally able to see based on lots of different data points who would be ready to buy. It is incredible how underutilized texting is in the sales process and how effective it is. It's crazy. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ SHARE THIS EPISODE: HOW TO TURN YOUR B2B PROSPECTS INTO CUSTOMERS [just click to tweet] HOW TO TURN YOUR B2B PROSPECTS INTO CUSTOMERS In B2B sales you need to get in front of your ideal prospects and talk to them, help solve their problems and start the sales process. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Doug: Well, welcome back listeners to another episode of Real Marketing Real Fast. Today we're going to talk about cold email, lead generation in the business to the business side, and I think you're going to enjoy the conversation. My guest today is somebody that I had connected with on LinkedIn, he works in the B2B space. He is also a fellow podcaster, podcast host. He has a podcast called the B2B Sales Tech Podcast. His name is Morgan Williams. He works as an enterprise sales rep. He is a blogger as I mentioned, a podcast host. He's based in Chicago, Illinois, and he helps companies create content so their salespeople can master cold outreach so they can book more appointments with their ideal leads. So I think you're going to enjoy our conversation, so welcome to the Real Marketing Real Fast podcast today. Doug: Well, hey Morgan, welcome to the Real Marketing Real Fast podcast today. Morgan Williams: Thank you so much, Doug. A pleasure to be here. Doug: Super excited to have you on the show, and I looked at your bio and your background and I thought, "This really cool, A B2B guy who's in lead generation." And I was doing some keyword research on a project for a client and it was interesting that that's one of the number one issues that businesses struggle with. Do you want to just give us a 30,000-foot view of what you're doing and then we can dive a little bit deeper into the tactics? Morgan Williams: Yeah, absolutely. You are right, it is a pressing issue for every... I pretty much work in technology, SaaS, that's the environment that I'm in, and it's really an issue for every company that's looking to sell to other businesses. How do you get new blood in the door? How do you get more revenue? How do you get more sales? And that all starts with meetings. B2B, you need to get in front of your ideal prospects and talk to them, help solve their problems and start the sales process. Well, most people have that cover when it comes to warm contacts, they're selling to their warm network or referrals or what have you, but getting the attention and gaining the trust of cold prospects within a sales cycle is tough, it's challenging. Morgan Williams: And what's making this even harder in a 2020 environment, is the fact that there are so many companies or sellers that are entering the system. It's supply and demand. There are more sellers entering the system, and at least I used to work in cybersecurity and we're seeing that a lot. There's a ton of sellers entering the system and the number of buyers is staying relatively stagnant or growing very slowly,

Jeff Griggs - The Re Emergence of Transition Towns, Men’s Sheds & Localised Food

GreenplanetFM Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later May 12, 2016 60:01

Whangarei in the north of NZ is stirring and it’s around ‘community participation’ as a result of a small dedicated team based on collaborative leadership. Food resilience is one of the important focusses of Transition Towns (TT) as it affects everyone, the poor, middle income and even the rich. We all need high quality food in our body to obtain optimum results. By relocalising their food system, which even here in NZ has been taken over by large corporate players and international supply chains, we have to have plan B. Fortunately over the last 8 years, Jeff has been in Whangarei holding the space whilst many if not most TT’s have dissipated and/or fallen away. But, in Whangarei people come in and out depending on the issues and they are continually finding situations that galvanise people and engage community and get them involved. Which he warmly finds is contagious. Once you gain the awareness of people who want to find out what they can do, it then becomes all what they can do at a community level. Especially film evenings when you have 'conscious get togethers'. One of them very recently being 'This Changes Everything' a Naomi Kline movie, assisting in pulling the threads of community together can build up a synergistic momentum. Jeff mentions Cuba, being a classic example when the Soviet Union dissolved, it left the whole country of Cuba with no oil supplier as well as no chemicals for agriculture. Thus, resulting in the Cubans falling back on their own commitment to self and group responsibility which resulted in a very resilient community in a matter of 4 or 5 years growing into being. He also sees that, we too in NZ are in transition and when we get community engaged and involved the coming together, the passion and the enthusiasm the commitment and the cocreation that happens it's potent and empowering ... Jeff Griggs states that the principles of the Transition Town (TT) model are very robust, as it contains so many aspects that builds resilience back into community. Including co-opetition, community building and because it was positioning to cover the peak global oil situation, when it was sidelined by full spectrum fraking. This fraking did bring down oil prices, but in the process, in so many cases, destroyed the water pan with chemical pollution causing many unrecorded environment and health problems, like discharging flammable gasses into the water supply that came out through kitchen water taps. What he now states is the end of cheap oil and we here in NZ, being dependent on oil needs, still exposes us to being vulnerable around oil supply. So going back to the TT model, it is far broader than just fraking and costly oil. This is where organics and permaculture meet, home schooling and holistic healing modalities, alternative currencies such as green dollars and time banks extend into the local economy, as well as a reignited ‘neighbourhood support’ system. Thus the strings of a community extend across many demographics and resilience comes into play. Jeff thinks that when we pool all these components together there is 'collaborative' leadership and this word is becoming to be more known in the mainstream vernacular. When you get groups of people with common visions sitting down around the table actively listening to one another, looking at possibilities, getting creative in a co creative way the magic and the power that comes from that kind of round table discussion is quite mind blowing! When you compare this polite dialogue and sharing with the antics of NZ’s Parliament or US politics, we need go no further. Validating collaborative leadership is a new way forward. Which due to Jeff's experience in local government this is what is missing collaborative leadership. The challenge now is to convince government and bureaucracy to commit to find ways to embrace collaborative style of being and working ... where you get rid of the win/lose scenarios and also the power struggles and the competition. “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” R. Buckminster Fuller When you clear the old patterns put these old forms aside and embrace the new all of a sudden when people start engaging in this new way of working, the collective wisdom, the collective knowledge starts to emerge and this is where the leadership starts to come up from the grass roots level. People practising this experiential learning of collaboration find it’s like the magic ingredient where you get the group together create the space and then you just let it go ... and the outcomes are so powerful its going back to community outcomes, community wellbeing and health of the environment all this stuff starts to play out. The passion gets renewed. This interview covers a lot of C words ... Coopetition Cooperation Cocreation Collaboration Collectives Community building Can do ... Commitment which many people seem unable to do ... Other words for these times. Local resilience Reclaiming Social enterprise Self sufficiency Personal responsibility Be the change When in a group situation and people are using this vocabulary you know that you are all on the same page and wavelength. The Transition Towns model being a very well thoughtout model that with 12 parts to it Jeff thinks it is a very well structured system. One of these unique parts of this TT system, calls for ‘inter generation’ connection and honouring the elders these are all components that consist of building interactive resilience back into communities the coming together the grand fathers/mothers the very young this is known within indigenous populations where is is very much a natural unified field. One such initiative that happened when listening for the voice of the youth of Whangarei, was that no one was looking for their aspirations, they were not being actively factored into the future so Jeff and a team wrote to the Principles of the five major high schools in the City saying that their TT group was a voice of concerned citizens and they were interested in hearing the voice of the youth of today. They asked for two students from each school and meet with all five high school representatives to support them in asking them to share their aspirations and get their voices out. So the TT group coached them in being media savvy and how to give presentations etc. Then Jeff met with them personally for near on two years and they wanted to have a number of things, one being a forum to be able to communicate with government politicians and a youth space where they could come together and support each other along with other smaller objectives, such as tutoring. As a result the feel confident to go in front of the Whangarei Council and they have been acknowledged, listened to and have their own space and received funding for ongoing group consensus etc. The TT group seeded it, now they have stepped back. Then the TT group checked out the elders and saw that the women were far more organised and had their social networks, but the men, they were another story. Jeff said that he sees them at the library bring back cartloads of books they were just home reading. Yet, they had so much talent and skills sitting untapped by the community. Having heard about the Man Shed concept in Australia, where the Federal Government actually funds them because they can see the indirect health benefits of keeping the men occupied, because with no outlet the men get depressed, and go onto medication and the downward spiral ... and Jeff and a team decided to do it here in Whangarei where the end product is that there are now 80 men in a shed that happens to be the old Whangarei railwaystation. This they purchased off the Council for one dollar, they are now restoring it, they are doing projects all over Whangarei for charities and non profits, Salvation Army, hospices, repairing furniture etc This being a total entrepreneurial old group of guys who love being together, love building things and love giving back to the community. They are now bringing in home school kids, women groups, also to learn many differing skills, that it is becoming a community point where everyone comes together to honour this intergenerational connection. The next step being, to invite in young males who have missed out on connection with fathers and male energy to come hang with these older blokes and learn and laugh and again bring the intergeneration energies together into a more cocreative environment, these older men are ex builders, plumbers electricians etc with a huge resource of skills. There are now mens shed in Kaitaia, Kerekeri and starting in Ruakaka and they are being donated huge amounts of tools and gear etc. It is overwhelming what is being donated. Also mentioned in this interview is Barbara Marx Hubbard (whom we both have met) out of Northern California, who talks about "Conscious Evolution" as against, unconscious evolution, which is basically where we are at in this old paradigm that is hemorrhaging and not fulfilling humanities needs or the natural world. http://barbaramarxhubbard.com Covering; GE Free Northland as championed by the Whangarei Council and the Far North Councils. Plus, honouring Zelka Grammer and her unwavering and dedicated work to keep GE & GMO's out of the North. https://organicnz.org.nz/node/624 Other TT projects are about re localisation. (Do a web search on ‘Localise’ NZ for the various web sites www.localise.nz ) This will give pointers about Relocalising our food and reshaping Northlands food production as well as integrating distribution and and understanding consumption systems. Because Whangarei and districts have a niche climatic system, available water, rich soils many of them volcanic, the possibilities are huge yet compared to the food grown in Northland 100 years ago very little food is grown today. Why? 6,000 people go to the Saturday morning Whangarei markets on Saturday morning. Based on the collaborative leadership model it is fundamental to bring in this new paradigm and re educate everyone including the present businesses, the institutions, the economic development people, leaders etc, to see just what is possible. And ironically, all this Transitional Town dynamism is being done by volunteers, actually just three people ( Just as this radio program is totally voluntary as well) No resources or money other than their own time has gone into this project. Jeff tells that last year he took 4 months off in 2015 to visit North America to study the local food movement, especially in Vermont, which has quite a counter culture and where Bernie Sanders comes from and they have this ‘localised food movement’ absolutely sussed. The Book called ‘The Town that Food Saved.’ Based around an organisation called ‘The centre for an agricultural economy.’ www.hardwickagriculture.org/ It's a social enterprise, is very entreprenurial and is self supporting. Kaitiakitanga means guardianship and protection. Rahui and regenerating fish stocks. Northland being a GE and GMO Free Zone and Auckland City being the gate keeper to keep such materials out from the north. The very high price that organic dairy farmers are getting for milk powder emphatically states that there is a world market for top quality healthy products. 5 times the price of conventional dairy prices. Covering a huge array of subject matter from Morgan Williams the ex Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment and how strong and forthright he was when taking that post. That today, the NZ Government and ‘business as usual’ have corrupted and abused the word sustainability and deleted it from any ecological context, but use it to sustain the ongoing plunder of our planets resources, people and future. The semantics of sustainability."if it is good for the environment and good for the people and good for the economy then you are well on track to be sustainable" Morgan Williams. It is the life supporting capacity of our planet that has got to be the main criteria for us in supporting the biosphere. Progress indicators GDP and the measuring of gross domestic product Dr Ron Coleman who was invited by Dave Breuer of AnewNZ and who had Michael Cullen’s ear, ( The Minister of Finance for the previous Labour administration.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genuine_progress_indicator The game is to replace the system with one that is going to work for our common future and environment, people and economy basically in that order. In fact "it is not a revolution it's a paradigm shift" from the grass roots up. And more and more people are twigging to it, as they tire of the same frenetic diet of homogenous unconscious drivel spewed out via the MSM and when they see the possibilities of TT’s bountiful expression and the garden of delight it awakens them to their real self and their connections to self and the greater community. Neo Liberalism has been totally embraced by the NZ National Party and it is not serving the country as whole. Food for Life in Whangarei is based in giving food to school children in low decile schools = 1200 meals per week. Stopping food waste, at super market is something that is being looked at. USA Hospitals have an initiative called "farm to hospital" so as to get fresh food into hospitals from local sources. rodaleinstitute.org/farmtohospital/ and www.farmtoinstitution.org/ ‘Sew good’ Where Whangarei women engage in teaching and sewing in a community workshop space. http://www.sewgood.org.nz Whangarei, is maybe becoming a cellular nucleus or mothership to not only the localised area but for supporting new community collaborative initiatives in outer lying towns within the Northland region. This is a wonderful interview that will warm your bones and get you excited. I apologise for this poorly written summary, there are only a certain number of hours in the day.(Tim) http://www.transitionwhangarei.org Newsletter @ info@transitionwhangarei.org.nz

CD067: What Do We Want In Ukraine?

The United States appears prepared to restart the Cold War and loan at least $1 billion of our tax money to Ukraine through the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Why? In this episode, we look at what we're asking for in Ukraine in return for our generosity. * For an excellent perspective on the Russian invasion of Crimea, listen to Episode 270: Poking the Bear and Episode 271: Cashing the Doomsday Cheque of Common Sense with Dan Carlin. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans struggling countries money but in return the IMF demands that the country change its economic laws to make them much more corporate friendly. As explained in the The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, there are three economic principles that the free marketeers want their target countries to adhere to: Governments must remove all rules and regulations standing in the way of the accumulations of profits. Governments should sell off any assets they own that corporations could be running at a profit. Governments should dramatically cut back funding of social programs. In Ukraine's case, Their elected government - an elected government that had recently backed out of a "free trade" deal with Europe and was recently cut off from promised IMF cash because it didn't change Ukraine's economic laws - was overthrown and it was replaced by an IMF-friendly government, which has restarted the "free trade" deal with Europe and has promised to enact the "painful" IMF economic reforms. The new government is currently being promised $27 billion. "You know that we resumed talks with the IMF, we do understand that these are tough reforms, but these reforms are needed for the Ukrainian state. We are back on track in terms of delivering real reforms in my country. Probably in the near future, next week, or in ten days, Ukraine is to sign the political part of an association agreement with the European Union and we want to be very clear that Ukraine is and will be a part of the Western world." -Interim Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, March 12, 2014 Our government is supporting this new government. Here's my answer to "Why?". Potential Profits in Ukraine The two most promising areas are in energy and agriculture. First, energy. Poor Ukraine has the potential to become filthy rich because of the country's untapped natural gas supplies. Ukraine has not one, but two, big shale formations that are mostly unfracked. Ukraine is completely hooked on natural gas for energy, but they have been buying it from Russia. Russia has been giving Ukrainians discounts on their natural gas that keep Ukrainian's prices just low enough that Ukraine's natural gas company hasn't bothered to start fracking at home. And yes, that's the other thing. Ukraine's natural gas industry is nationalized. Ukraine's natural gas belongs to the state, it belongs to the government, it belongs to the people. In fact, in 2011, Ukrainians passed a law that said that all natural gas fracked in Ukraine must be sold to Ukrainians. No exports allowed. What that means for The People is that they will be able to use their own resources for energy - become energy independent, if you will. What that means for multinational fossil fuel corporations is that they can't profit from exporting Ukraine's nationalized natural gas. According to Morgan Williams, President and CEO of the US-Ukraine Business Council, "The new prime minister says he wants to privatize the state-owned energy companies." Second, agriculture is big business in Ukraine. Ukraine has been nicknamed the "breadbasket of Europe" for centuries and in January, The Financial Times called Ukraine "one of the world's most promising agriculture commodity producers". The reason is that in 2013, Ukraine had their best year ever for corn. The market is practically drooling over the prospects of getting control of this land. Morgan Williams, President and CEO of the US-Ukraine Business Council - the group I think is really calling the shots here - said, "The potential here for agriculture/agribusiness is amazing ... production here could double. The world needs the food Ukraine could produce in the future. Ukraine's agriculture could be a real gold mine." So Ukraine is a country with huge, untapped natural gas reserves, which can be easily transported and sold to Europe since Ukraine already houses two of the most important gas pipelines which transport natural gas from Russia to Europe. Ukraine is also a country with fertile land in a time when other "breadbaskets of the world" are either flooded or withering in drought. Add to that Ukraine's educated workforce ripe for corporate slavery and you've got a country that the market would love to take advantage of. This is why Ukraine is a target. This is why we're involved. What Are We Fighting For? According to a 96 page document prepared by the IMF in 2012, the IMF wants Ukraine to, first and foremost, cut heating assistance for Ukrainian citizens. The IMF is also adamant that Ukraine needs to let their currency be more flexible, flexible in the down direction that is. Since the IMF government was installed, Ukraine's currency has fallen 24 percent, making it the worst performing currency this year. Another goal of the IMF is to "facilitate mergers and acquisitions of banks". Ukrainian banks controlled 58% of the Ukrainian banking industry in 2010, according to the IMF. Other goals of the IMF include the "repeal of burdensome government regulations", "wage and employment restraint", which translates to lower wages and cutting of Ukrainian government jobs, via "reforms and reductions" in the health and education sectors, which make up the bulk of public employment in Ukraine. These new laws are in addition to the new laws the IMF had already gotten from the recently ousted government. Ukraine already reformed their pension system by raising the retirement age for women from 55 to 60, lowered corporate tax rates in 2010, laid off 30,000 public employes in 2011, and privatized Ukraine's 11th largest bank in 2011- selling it to a titanium business tycoon who gobbled up Ukraine's government-owned titanium in a fire sale of Ukrainian state assets that took place in 2004. Where Are We Now? It appears that the Ukrainians are screwed. The new prime minster said he is prepared to be "the most unpopular prime minister in the whole history" and he's enacting the new economic laws, full steam ahead. For our part, in our Congress, the IMF loan money is uncontroversial. Both the House and the Senate have approved $1 billion of our tax money which will go towards the IMF loan. Timeline of Events Winters of 2006 and 2009: Russia and Ukraine waged two "gas wars" when Moscow halted deliveries to both Ukraine and by extension the rest of Europe. July 24, 2010: "On Foundations of Natural Gas Market Functioning" took effect, which establishes three key principles for the Ukrainian gas market: Free Consumer Choice of Suppliers Nondiscriminatory Access to Gas Transportation System - due January 1, 2012 Horizontal Unbundling of Gas Sector - separating the gas production and marketing from the "natural monopoly" of transportation, to begin with (privatization is prohibited for transportation infrastructure) Early 2011: Ukraine halted natural gas exports to Poland's gas company after a Ukrainian law mandated all state-owned oil and gas be sold to the Ukrainian population. Early 2011: IMF suspends a $15 billion loan "because Ukraine refused to remove subsidies on household gas supplies." February 2011: Ukraine became a full member of the Energy Community, an organization formed at the initiative of the European Union to extend the EU internal energy market to southeastern Europe and beyond. The gas market law was a precondition of membership of the Energy Community. June 2011: Gas Market Law allows Ukraine's state-oil company to export Ukraine's natural gas. January 2013: Ukraine signs fracking deal with Royal Dutch Shell for exploration at Yuzivska in eastern Ukraine Nov. 5, 2013: Ukraine signs a 50 year, $10 billion shale gas deal with Chevron to develop the western Olesska field. Nov. 21, 2013: President Viktor Yanukovych rejected a political and free trade agreement - in the works since 2005 - with the European Union, instead choosing to resume talks with Russia - the country that controls their energy supply. February 22, 2014: President Viktor Yanukovych flees to Eastern Ukraine (the Russian side) after what he called a coup. February 26, 2014: The government of Ukraine becomes pro-Western and willing to enact IMF reforms, at least until the election on May 24th. March 21, 2014: Ukraine's interim government signs restarts the free trade agreement with the European Union. March 27, 2014: The IMF promises Ukraine $27 billion after Ukraine's interim government cuts heating subsidies by 50%, promising to eliminate them all by 2016. The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment is a watch dog on the NZ Environment, outside of Government (like an Ombudsmen but with a small O), making sure that Government are following environmental protocols that are going to benefit the long term goals of the country. In this interview Morgan clarifies what is green, sustainable and prosperous and that the Parliamentary political term is too short, as nothing really gets done. That there is only one educational institution in NZ that has integrated sustainability through everyone of its courses. Why?  The increasing costs of food, water and energy that will cause social unrest, and can we meet the social demand without having huge unrest. And the many challenges that need to be addressed at a causal level, with an extra 2 billion population in the next 30 years.
