Meet Russell Morris, one of Australia's must enduring, most talented and most beloved singer, songwriters. From his pop stardom in the '60s to pioneering singer-songwriter, Russell has shaped the country's musical landscape for over seven decades. We explore the origins of his iconic hit, "The Real Thing," and the unconventional journey that led him to pursue a solo career. Discover the role Ian Meldrum played in transforming a six-and-a-half-minute epic into a chart-topping sensation, defying industry norms. Russell shares anecdotes from his early days, revealing the supportive environment that fuelled his passion for music. From his unconventional start to becoming an Australian rock legend, this episode is a journey through the highs and lows of a remarkable career. Starting as a pop sensation in the '60s, Russell faced a tough road ahead when his early hits didn't translate into lasting success. Undeterred, he explored different genres and even went MIA for a while. Fast forward to the '70s, and Russell makes a surprising comeback with the iconic "The Real Thing." He shares the wild story behind the creation of the song, involving an LSD trip and a makeshift studio in a houseboat. The success of "The Real Thing" catapults him back into the limelight, marking a pivotal moment in his career. But it wasn't all smooth sailing. Russell opens up about the challenges of dealing with record labels, the music industry, and the highs and lows of fame. Our chat delves into the nitty-gritty of Russell's artistic evolution, from pop to blues, and the unexpected twists that kept his career vibrant. In a nutshell, it's a rollercoaster tale of a music legend who faced setbacks, embraced change, and ultimately found his groove, creating a legacy that spans decades. At times, feeling like an old has-been, Russell yearned to create something current. After an album's failure, he faced the reality that people just weren't interested anymore. Undeterred, he looked in the mirror, realizing he couldn't sing pop songs as an old fart. So, he decided to return to his roots, exploring rhythm and blues, Tamla Motown, and Blues. His Blues journey took an unexpected turn when he stumbled upon a 1918 police file photo of Thomas Archer, aka Shark Jaws. Inspired, he turned Archer's story into the blues hit "Shark Mouth," which marked the resurrection of his career. His subsequent albums, like "Van Diemens Land" and "Red Dirt, Red Heart," defied industry expectations, blending blues and country. Despite initial skepticism, these albums went on to become chart-toppers. Russell's bluesy revival continued with "Black and Blue Heart" in 2019, a pop-rock collaboration with Bernard Fanning and Nick Didier. He even joined forces with Rick Springfield, creating an album under the pseudonym Jack Chrome. Fast forward to the present, and Russell Morris is still pushing boundaries. His latest release, "The Real Thing, The Symphonic Concert," features him performing with a 54-piece symphony orchestra. The idea, born from an encounter with businessman Clive Palmer, turned out to be a massive success, selling out venues across the country. Russell's story is one of determination and resolve. A tale of belief in yourself and never giving up your passion. He is an icon in Australia and loved by all. You may or may not know his name. You may or may not know his music but, by the time you've listened to this episode, I guarantee you will not forget him. I hope you enjoy this episode. Don't forget, if you have someone you'd like me to interview on your behalf (and perhaps you can join me on the line too) just send me a message through my website https:www.abreathoffreshair.com.au and let me know who your favourite 60s 70s or 80s artist is. Pély Barna a Magyar Aranyérdem kereszttel kitüntetett Artisjus díjas énekes-gitáros-dalszerző. (Ausztria, Németország, Belgium, Luxemburg, Hollandia, Olaszország, Norvégia, Dánia, Svédország, Svájc, Spanyolország, Szlovénia, Szlovákia, Románia, Lengyelország, Montenegro, Marokkó, Indonézia, Kazahsztán, Üzbegisztán, Amerikai Egyesült Államok) Kiemelném a Hard Rock Café koncerteket: Oslo, Antwerpen, Innsbruck, Jakarta, Almati. 6 évig dolgozott pop-rock produkciójával, a B the First-tel. 2003-2006 zsűriként, 2010-ben szakmai tanácsadóként résztvevője volt a Tv2 Megasztár című énekes tehetségkutató műsorának. 2007-2017 a Kodolányi János Főiskola Művészeti Tanszékének Jazz-ének Szakvezetője. 2016-ban a Dal 2016 (Eurovíziós dalverseny) legjobb 18 dala közé jutott a B the First - You told me that you loved me című dalával. A Sztárban sztár meg egy kicsi zsűritagja. 2020-ban a Dal 2020 zsűritagja. A tv2 Nicsak ki vagyok című műsorának Elefánt jelmezbe bújt énekese, és a Sztárban Sztár versenyzője. A Nemzeti Tehetségprogram fővédnöke. 2021-ben a köztársasági elnök sikeres előadóművészetéért és a fiatal zenei tehetségek támogatása érdekében végzett munkája elismeréseként a Magyar Arany Érdemkereszt polgári tagozata kitüntetést adományozta neki. A Nemzeti Tehetségprogram egyik mentora. Természetesen zenekaros felállás esetén zenésztársaival kiegészülve hatalmas bulit csapnak a színpadon. 2019.január 9-én megjelent a legújabb szólólemeze “Blue Heart” címmel, ami kizárólag új dalokat tartalmaz. "The sub-frequency calls of the planet's largest animal, the endangered Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus), are too low for human ears to perceive. But this inspired some questions: What might these low frequencies feel like? What new sensations might arise? Would these feelings enter our subconscious? If I could play my bass flute deep into the waters of the Antarctic, how might I converse with a Blue Whale? What would we say to each other? How might we play? This work is an exploration of what it might be like to interact, in dream-time, with these extraordinary beings, if we could use our senses, imagine, play, dream and explore. "I used the original recording (which had already been altered by the scientists so that we could hear these sub-frequencies) and then also created versions of the whale calls with very slight pitch and time adjustments. In addition, I incorporated recordings of the Kenai Fjords off of Seward, Alaska that I collected in 2012 using both hydrophone and shotgun microphones, which captured the resonant sounds of the glacier caving. My performance on the bass flute (plus electronic effects), in relation to the Blue Whale calls and the glacier sounds, produce a kind of tickling effect in my ears. I wonder what you will feel? "Special gratitude to the exceptional sound engineer Joe Shepard for guidance on these extremely low frequencies in the final mix. "Blue whales are the Earth's largest animal, and therefore they also have the largest beating heart on the planet, weighing 400 lbs (or more). Will we be the cause of its cessation? Or, will we help take care of this vulnerable being?" Blue whale reimagined by Jane Rigler. We're not the only ones who binge-watched Netflix's The Circle over the pandemic, and one reason we were OBSESSED was the breakout star of the show: Terilisha, a math teacher AND musician, who stole our hearts with her IDGAF attitude! Today Vanessa chats with Terilisha about her experience on the show, how the media (and society) struggle to accept that people can be multifaceted, how the educational system fails us early by not prioritizing practical math skills like personal finances, and how she's determined to defy the stereotype of who/what a “math person” can be.About TerilishaTerilisha is a songstress, songwriter, actress and native of Dallas, Texas. She was featured on Season 2 of Netflix's The Circle, and her latest EP, “The Blue Heart” is available on Spotify, Pandora, Google Play, iTunes/Apple Music and all digital & streaming locations.Show notes:Watch The Circle Season 2 on Netflix to see Terilisha!Listen to Terilisha's “The Blue Heart” EP on all digital & streaming platformsConnect with us:Terilisha: (Insta, Twitter, Spotify)Vanessa Vakharia: @themathguru (Insta, Twitter, TikTok)Math Therapy: @maththerapy (Twitter)

April 27, 2021--Our ocean is the Earth's "Blue Heart" covering 72 % of our planet . . . and it's in bad shape. With more than 300 tons of plastic produced annually, less than 5% is recycled. Where does much of it end up? You guessed it, in the ocean! On thie edition of the Ecology Hour on KZYX, guest host John Azzaro speaks with Mary Crowley, founding director of Ocean Voyages Institute dedicated to ocean cleanup and raising the awareness of the dangers of marine debris. John sailed with Mary and crew of marine scientists on a 150' tall ship to study first hand the world's largest toxic dump, the North Pacific Gyre.

In this episode we're talking to filmmaker Britton Caillouette. He's worked with a great list of clients like Patagonia, Ford, Coors and most recently Stumptown Coffee Roasters for a film called Wax & Gold. We narrow in on that project in particular, breaking down the film format and stock choices and how they played a role in telling the narrative of the culture in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee. We also talk about his work with Patagonia shedding light on the building of dams in the Balkans for his film, Blue Heart. Britt is an interesting, thoughtful and creative guy, so listen in and hang out with us for the next hour or so. www.brittoncaillouette.com www.farmleague.us www.farmleague.us/team/directors/britton-caillouette/work/waxgold/ https://blueheart.patagonia.com/

I recently caught up with Mr Russell Morris, a living legend of the Australian music scene this week while we were on tour for his new album 'Black n Blue Heart'. We just had the most 'out there' conversations talking all about the origins of the universe, near death experiences, songwriting, Astro physics and Quantum physics. These are the type of conversations I love to have! Here's what we chatted about: How Russell writes so he can connect with people rather than just seeing it as a performanceSong Writing: ‘Thinking up’ a song vs ‘allowing’ a songRussells two processes for songwriting The hard working culture of Australians Having a life that is based around work instead of living Russell’s belief in Science and the Universe Russells obsession with Astro Physics Dream states and memories hidden in our DNAQuantum Physics and particle transportation How to change patterns of behaviourHow to embrace being a ‘failure’ and still maintain your enthusiasm for lifeSome of our favourite quotes from this episode. “I think songwriting is an emotional connection to our very beings”“Just ask the questions, who cares. If you agree great. if you don’t agree ask other questions and find other answers that you can pursue what you think life is about”“It’s a very human attachment that we write songs, and it’s trying to express ourselves, trying to connect to other humans...wanting to belong in a way and have people feel good’“If I just used those words it would be like eating porridge without milk”“To fail in life is really important, and boy I’ve failed so many times but you have to keep your enthusiasm up for life” “We are all part of this universe and we are all part of each other...imagine the generations that have gone into you!” “Life at a quantum level is magical”“We are children of the super nova’s” “We are the universe that has come out of minerals and rocks, standing up and looking at itself”“Your molecular body is just distributed back into the universe” LinksRussell Morris Websitehttp://russellmorris.com.au/Black and Blue Heart tourhttp://smarturl.it/blackandblueheartFollow Russell on Instagram herehttps://www.instagram.com/realthingrussellmorris/Quote Ash refers to by Charles Bukowskihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Oj3__6qomo&feature=youtu.be“Born of a system that elevates fools ot Rich Hero’s”Follow Ash Grunwald on Instagram herehttps://www.instagram.com/ashgrunwald/?hl=enAsh Grunwald Website/Show Dateshttps://www.ashgrunwald.com/Earth Bottles - use promo code ASHLOVESMEhttps://earthbottles.com.au/Listen to Ash's album 'NOW' hereNOW by Ash GrunwaldThis was such an uplifting soulful conversation! Speakers: Sylvia Earle, Charlie Veron, Bronwyn GillandersHost: Bernie HobbsMarine experts have warned that we are in the middle of an unprecedented high-risk period of marine species extinction. On our watch the world’s oceans and natural wonders like The Great Barrier Reef have borne the brunt of a potent combination of over-fishing, pollution, unparalleled mining and farming run-offs, the acidification of the seas caused by increasing carbon dioxide emissions and the disruptive results of rising water temperatures. Our panel, three highly regarded marine scientists, discuss the vast challenge ahead to reverse these dire predictions for our blue heart. As Sylvia Earle herself said - “life depends on the ocean, and to save it we must love it.”
