Tab Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records has just released a solo acoustic version of Alastair Greene’s “Bayou Mile,” a song from his critically acclaimed recent album THE NEW WORLD BLUES. The album dropped in October 2020, quickly garnering rave reviews, hitting #3 and #6 in its first two weeks on the Billboard Blues Chart, climbing major radio charts, and getting heavy airplay on Sirius/XM’s Bluesville. Greene had traveled to Houma, Louisiana to record with Grammy-nominated Benoit, who produced, played drums and sang harmonies on this record, along with bass player Corey Duplechin. The diverse, thoughtfully penned songs are all Greene originals, with a few co-written with Benoit. The 11 songs cover a lot of ground, tying together Greene’s varied influences into his deeply rooted playing, singing and songwriting. The songs are stylistically diverse, but they all capture the feel of the Cajun environment, paired with a rock-solid Louisiana rhythm section. “’Bayou Mile’ was one of 2 songs that I wrote with Tab Benoit during the recording sessions for THE NEW WORLD BLUES. Tab had already worked with me on arranging and re-writing a couple of the tunes I brought with me so I already trusted his instincts and direction. Tab lives by a bayou outside of New Orleans in Houma, Louisiana. One day before we started working I took a walk around his neighborhood and some lyrics started forming in my head. I had just come off of a long U.S. tour and had been stranded at JFK airport for the night trying to get to New Orleans. So I started with that lyrically. When I got back to the studio I started messing around on Tab's acoustic guitar. When Tab came to the studio to begin work that day I started showing him the song and told him I needed help with the lyrics. He came up with so many amazing lines that really painted a glorious picture. Only someone that grew up in the bayou could come up with lyrics such as "So lay me down in the sugar cane, and wash over me like a summer rain." So good! This song has become what is probably my favorite song on the album and definitely my favorite song that I've ever co-written with anyone. This song started on acoustic guitars so it makes sense and means a lot to me to release an acoustic version of it." - Alastair Greene

Blues Revival.

In 90's, Swing music made a comeback on the charts with "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy", "Cherry Poppin Daddy's", and "Square Nut Zippers" and in 1998 "Swingadelic" was born. "Swingadelic" is a jazz/blues ensemble founded in 1998 in Hoboken, New Jersey by bassist Dave Post and while they tour the earth they are the house band of SWING 46 every Monday night in New York City. When they are in NYC it is a 10 piece band, when they are they on the road it grows, and when they record, it is nothing but a party. In 2012, the band recorded "Toussaintville", a tribute to the Allen Toussaniant, and in 2017 they turned there attention to the work of Johnny Mercer called "Mercerville" both records are on the ZoHo label. They are back with a new album called, "Bluesville" also on the ZOHO label and it is just what the doctor ordered for this time period. While the album has three originals, they plays the hits, like Ray Charles's "Lonely Avenue", Willie Dixon's "I Love the Life I Live" and Mose Allison's "Parchman Farm" swings, its the funky blues and I can't wait to chat with Dave Post to see how he is able to juggle and create such a great album Dave Post welcome to something came from Baltimore --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/somethingcame-from-baltim/message

A conversation with Radio Host, Bill Wax (Roots and Fruits on WPFW-FM and former host of Bluesville on Sirius XM).
A BBQ smothered Christmas special featuring Oklahoma’s blues elder and reigning queen of the blues, Dorothy Ellis, better known under her moniker, Miss Blues. We also hear season’s greetings by Tommy Castro, Rockin’ Johnny and more. On the second half of the program, enjoy an offbeat, laugh-out loud, off the wall Christmas story about the mysterious B.B. Kringle who saves the small town of Bluesville from the miserly grips of Eli’s Pawn proprietor, old Ebenezer Slim. This family fun tale was written by the creative children from a local shelter group exclusively for Blues America. It’s narrated by actor and multi-instrumentalist Monty Banks. Throw on your bad Christmas sweater, untangle those lights and spike the eggnog as we gather around the stovepipe for Santa’s favorite show, the Blues America juke joint jingle jam.
Roots musician extraordinaire chats with Bluesville's Kevin Barnes about his recent blues-oriented disc on the occasion of his August 2017 appearance in the Twin Cities.
