You've heard about intuitive eating before, now let's chat about intuitive fitness.I am joined by Deanna Beaton, personal trainer and coach to bring us more discussion intuitive fitness/exercise/movement.Deanna shares how emotional eating was a life saver when she didn't know she needed it.We also talk about what intuitive movement is: this idea that your body wants to move and knows when and how much. Deanna shares her idea of the “swingset” that can happen as we heal our relationship with movement, which may include periods where you make peace with movement and make peace with rest. I also share some of my experience with this after I ran a half marathon in Oct 2019 and then did almost no formal exercise for 18 months while I healed my relationship with movement/exercise.I then pick Deanna's brain about how we know our body WANTS to move. Spoiler: any time you notice the words SHOULD, HAVE TO, or MUST that's a good indicator that you are not engaging in intuitive movement. We close the episode with Deanna sharing what person training is, why a person would want a trainer, and the differences between training and coaching. Gaslighting seems very trendy right now. I see and hear about it all over the place. It was coming up a lot in the practice so I thought I'd share the article I found that clearly explains the term. The term and it's frequent use is a newer thing, but actually dates back to the 1930's and 40's, referencing the title of a 1938 play and a 1944 film titled Gaslight in which a husband conceals his search for his wife's aunt's missing jewels by making his wife doubt herself. He tells her that the sounds in the attic she hears, and the dimming gas lights around their home, are imaginary. The term “gaslighting” came to represent the type of manipulation the characters portray in the film. I read most of the article for you in this episode and at the end I discuss with you the possibility that you are gaslighting yourself.Have a listen and I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm joyed to pair this episode with America's biggest eating holiday!Tracy Astle and I got together to discuss finding pleasure in food and how you can do that, too. That means this Thanksgiving, no matter how you spend the day, you just might find a little more pleasure in the food you eat.Tracy is a West Coast girl, a wife, mother, and grandmother who loves to learn. She's a hard core optimist who believes there is beauty and personal power to be found in any situation. One of the things closest to her heart is helping people identify the lessons in their lives and finding where their power lies.Tracy brings compassionate, encouraging support to those desiring a relaxed, peaceful relationship with food and with themselves. She assists her clients in becoming intuitive eaters who are skilled at tuning into their own body wisdom. She studied at Brigham Young University and became a certified Eating Psychology Coach through The Institute for the Psychology of Eating.Tracy's Info:InstagramFacebookWebsiteOther Important Links: Ditch Food Guilt Checklist & More!Support the showMentioned On The Show Feeding Confidence InformationFeeding Confidence is a Monthly Membership designed to get you off the diet roller coaster, have more energy, and feel CONFIDENT.InstagramFacebook
It's almost turkey day! So let's revisit Principle 5 & 6 of intuitive eating. Feeling our fullness and discovering the satisfaction factor. We talk about diets leading to membership in the clean plate club and leading to overeating. One way to address this is the hunger fullness scale. We then talk about fully enjoying our foods and how to get the most satisfaction out of our meals. Tribole and Resch give us 5 steps to follow to tap into the satisfaction factor.Step 1. Ask yourself what you REALLY want to eat. You've given yourself unconditional permission to eat, or at least you are working on it, so you are free to choose foods you enjoy. Step 2. To discover what foods you really like and to increase the satisfaction in your eating, focus on your senses while you eat. Taste: put the food in your mouth and notice the taste. Texture: notice how the food feels in your mouth. Smell: appreciate the various aromas that foods can emit. IAppearance: Take a look at the food you are about to eat. Is it fit for a queen or rubbish fed to the dungeons?Volume or filling-capacity: Some days you may want something light while others you want a filling plate of pasta.Remember to embrace your uniqueness. Everyone has different experiences with taste and textures. And be aware that your preferences may change throughout your life.Step 3: make your eating experience more enjoyable. l: eat Slowly, eat sensually, and savor every bite.Step 4: don't settle. You are not obligated to finish something just because you started it. If it isn't working or you don't like it, stop.Step 5: check in, does it still taste good? If it no longer tastes good and is no longer bringing pleasure, then stop eating it!Support the showMentioned On The Show Feeding Confidence InformationFeeding Confidence is a Monthly Membership designed to get you off the diet roller coaster, have more energy, and feel CONFIDENT.InstagramFacebook
In this episode I am joined by my MBEC (Mind Body Eating Coach) colleague Kayla.Kayla Van Egdom is a health coach, energy healer, author, and podcast who is on a mission to help liberate women everywhere from food prison and body shame.Kayla's struggle with weight and binge eating started when she was seven years old. She spent two decades trying to fix her weight and food issues by treating herself like a problem that needed to be solved. She even became a personal trainer, thinking that would be the solution. The true solution was doing the deep inner work and choosing to use her challenges with body image and emotional eating as a catalyst for deep, personal transformation. She has worked with hundreds of clients over the last seven years and has helped women heal their relationship with food through her coaching and signature programs.Join me for my conversation with Kayla to hear how changing her relationship to food and body changed most aspects of her life. * There is more mention of weight, losing weight, and some specific numbers in this episode. We often get caught in a toxic relationship with the scale. And what do we do with toxic relationships? We end them! Or we put healthy boundaries on them!Breaking up with the scale can free you from focusing on weight. It can help you realize what really reflects your self worth. And it begins to move you in the direction of healthy relationships with food and your body. When I stopped weighing myself my mental health improved. I had more brain space to focus on what really mattered to me. I stopped the restrict binge cycle that still lingered around after healing my relationship to food. Which also helped my physical health improve. In this episode I share how No Scale November came to be a thing, why I encourage people to break up with the scale, and my own journey of ditching the scale many Novembers ago. Have you ever caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and it instantly ruined the rest of your day? Or maybe you saw a picture of yourself recently and it sparked negative thoughts about your body. How many times have you tried to improve your body image by changing how your body looks? Contrary to popular belief, body image has nothing to do with what your body actually looks like. So no wonder all those attempts to feel better about yourself by trying to change how your body looks have fallen short. In this episode I share why trying to change your body will not result in a long lasting change in your body image. I also share the four components to body image.Perceptual: The way you SEE your body.Affective: The way you FEEL about your body.Cognitive: The way you THINK about your body.Behavioral: The way you BEHAVE as a result of your body imageAnd BIG exciting news! In this episode we are talking all about willpower. What it is and isn't, how our thoughts about it create our reality, and what you can do. I'm also sharing why I think willpower is BS. So stick around if you've ever said “I have no willpower”Willpower is a topic I cover in The Emotional Eating Revolution and recently came up in Feeding Confidence this month so I figured it would be beneficial to talk about on the podcast.Miriam Webster defines willpower as the ability to control one's own actions, emotions, or urges, or strong determination that allows one to do something difficult. There's a lot of research to support the idea that willpower is finite and once we use it all it's gone for the day. There's also newer research to support the idea that willpower can be strengthened like a muscle. I read an article I found about how to increase your willpower and point out where I disagree and how a lot of this is promoted by diet culture.I share with you why I think willpower is BS (it is what you think it is) and give you three tips to help with "willpower" and food.Mentioned On The ShowWant to chat with me about working together?Link to Sabrina's calendar to schedule our callInstagramFacebookLive Healthily Ever After FB GroupFeeding Confidence InformationFeeding Confidence is a Monthly Membership designed to get you off the diet roller coaster, have more energy, and feel CONFIDENT.Support the show

In this episode I am talking about nighttime eating and what we can do about that. I cover the five types of nighttime eating that I see most often in my practice. And then I'm going to walk you through what you can do to wind down with food, and decide if you need to have another need met other than hunger.Your nighttime eating makes a lot of sense to me. You're fried, you're beat, you're exhausted evenings. And let's face it, days can be tough. Nighttime is tough. The day is finally caught up with you and you just want what you want. And you're done compromising. All you want to do is feel better, or sometimes not feel at all. You just want to be left alone to have some time to yourself at the end of the day. I completely get that I've been there. And sometimes you just want to have something nice for yourself and go to sleep. I get it. That my friend is called self care. And there is no sin.
