A new study by faculty at Florida Atlantic University and Eastern Michigan University explores the cultural factors that may explain why this gender gap exists and varies widely in countries around the world. Engaging a wider range of resources to connect patients with organizations within their community can help transform healthcare and improve overall well-being, according to new research published in the Journal of Business Research by faculty at Florida Atlantic University’s College of Business. A new study published in Small Business Economics: An Entrepreneurship Journal by faculty at Florida Atlantic University College of Business and the University of Bergamo in Italy suggests equity crowdfunding has boosted opportunities for younger entrepreneurs, while helping to bridge the distance between startup companies and their investors. However, female and minority entrepreneurs, typically considered financially constrained in traditional entrepreneurial markets, do not have higher chances to raise funds in equity crowdfunding. Sponsored by the Virginia and Douglas Stewart Foundation, and now in it's 15th year, the award recognizes an outstanding FAU Business professor based on five criteria: (1) extraordinary dedication to teaching, (2) impact on and involvement with students, (3) scholarly approach to teaching and learning, (4) contribution to education in the institution, community, and/or profession, and (5) support from colleagues, current and former students. According to a statewide survey of Florida voters by the FAU Business & Economics Polling Initiative (FAU BEPI) - U.S. President Donald Trump & former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden hold commanding leads in the race for their parties’ nominations for president in 2020, & are in a dead heat in a possible head-to-head matchup. An FAU High senior, Alyssa Alvarez will be simultaneously earning her bachelor's degree and high school diploma this summer. Majoring in economics with a minor in business law, Alyssa is the Co-President of Phi Alpha Delta, a Pre-Law Fraternity, and a member of the FAU Undergraduate Law Journal. The FAU Alumni Association recently hosted its annual Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni ceremony and reception, and Arthur C. Brooks, a graduate of the College of Business, was introduced as the 2019 Hall of Fame inductee. Brooks is a bestselling author, a classical musician, a social scientist, and the president of the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank.He began his career as a professional French hornist, leaving college at 19 to perform with the Annapolis Brass Quintet and later, the City Orchestra of Barcelona. Eventually, Brooks returned to the US, and in 1994, he earned his master’s degree in economics at FAU, and later, a Master of Philosophy and Ph.D. from The RAND Graduate School. After completing his doctorate, Brooks spent 10 years as a professor of public administration. He is also the recipient of six honorary doctorates.This summer, Brooks will leave the American Enterprise Institute to join the faculty of the Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School.On May 2, 2019, Brooks spoke at the FAU graduation ceremony as the 2019 FAU Hall of Fame inductee.Support the show (https://business.fau.edu/giving/)
