Emotional Adjustments: o Post-surgery, Jessica faced significant emotional challenges, including dealing with body image issues and the psychological impacts of her physical transformation. o She shares insights into the complexities of self-sabotage and anxiety that accompanied her weight loss, as well as the strategies she used to overcome these barriers, such as hypnosis and therapy. 3. Fashion Transformations: o With her new body, Jessica ventured into the world of fashion with a new perspective. She talks about the practical aspects of shopping for clothes that fit her changing size, including the importance of getting properly fitted undergarments and the joy of wearing styles she previously felt were unattainable. o Specific examples include transitioning from plus-size to standard sizes, exploring high-waisted pants paired with shorter tops, and the challenges of adjusting to how clothes fit her body type that continues to change. 4. Inspiration and Motivation: o Jessica's physical changes have spurred a deeper engagement with her health and appearance. She describes how these changes have motivated her to maintain her health better, engage in physical activities she once avoided, and embrace a more active lifestyle. #YYYAASSSSS o This newfound motivation extends to her approach to fashion, where she now takes joy in dressing up and feels inspired to present herself in ways that reflect her inner confidence and vitality. 5. Holly's Fashion Recommendations: Holly provides targeted advice for Jessica and anyone navigating the challenges of shopping after significant weight loss. Key recommendations include: o Prioritizing Proper Fit: -Emphasizing the importance of wearing clothes that properly fit your new body shape, which will 100% include getting re-measured for foundational garments like bras and undergarments. -Understanding the new sizes and cuts that best flatter your transformed figure. o Updating the Wardrobe Gradually: -Holly advises a gradual approach to wardrobe updates to accommodate ongoing body changes, suggesting an investment in transitional pieces that can adjust to slight size variations. o Choosing Strategic Pieces: -Recommending specific types of clothing that can enhance the appearance and boost confidence, such as high-waisted pants, structured tops, and layering pieces that can define the waist and balance proportions. o Embracing New Styles: -Encouraging exploration of new styles that may have felt off-limits before, such as bold prints, tailored outfits, and more form-fitting options, to celebrate and showcase your new body confidently. o Maintaining an Adaptable Mindset: Understanding that body shape may continue to change and adapting the fashion choices accordingly, while keeping a positive and open mindset towards these changes. Description: This week I will be talking about the adaptable expat mindset and what it takes to be successful as an expat. We all of expectations of what moving to another place might be like, especially another country, and those expectations are almost always wrong. The decision to be an expat is experiential and not a logical decision. A lot of what I will discuss comes from a workshop that I developed for Amava on the thought process of becoming an expat. Well, Amava has ceased operations and I thought I would repurpose some of that content. For those who are relatively new to this podcast, my wife and I have been living in Ajijic Mexico for 4 years. You can find all of the podcasts and blog posts on our expat page on the Career Pivot website. You will find a link to that page in the show notes. I want to take you through many of the aspects of becoming an expat and why you need to be able to maintain an adaptable mindset. Very few things will be as you expect. I am currently running my annual survey and I would be honored if you take a moment to take this short survey about Career Pivot and this podcast. Click here to take the survey. I have already received significant feedback and the Mike McNatt episode has been mentioned multiple times. That feedback accelerated the publication of this week's episode. On today's show, we discuss how mindset can accelerate change in your organization. Robert Overweg is the founder of the Adaptable Mindset program. He and his team empower people to develop their own Adaptable Mindset, to develop mental flexibility. Robert has over a decade of experience in innovation and digital transformation with clients like Vodafone, Liberty global, eBay, Heineken, a variety of startups, and innovative schools. He is also an artist and exhibited at the Centre Pompidou and the media biennial in Seoul. As a frequent speaker at institutes like MIT, SXSW, and the European Commission. Robert speaks about ways to use tech to work smarter and add value to the world. Key Takeaways: What drives resistance to change? This is often systemic in our culture. Parents and schools typically encourage compliance, rather than critical thinking and autonomy. We are taught to compartmentalize, and openness is discouraged or punished. We need to begin to shift from factory-worker mentality to mind-worker mentality.Where do you start in an organization to make change?Usually with the CTO or head of product. First we assess how the people work and what the biggest challenges are. We may do workshops with teams to connect with what they find meaningful and energizing. Once they are in the right mindset, we can ask questions about what they might like to improve. How do you make these positive changes individually? Each person should assess how they are doing. Then think about the possibilities. Small steps, such as turning notifications off for a certain time to allow for deep thoughts. Be courageous to try it out and build on it if it works for you.Is there a systematic way to move through this and evaluate it?Expand your mind - connect to the things that inspire you. This allows you to see more possibilities and open doorways in your mind.Focus on creating brain space - how can we eliminate unnecessary time-wasters to create space? Even 5 minutes a day to look at an art piece or learn something new can make a difference. Take care of your own mental well-being - exercise, strength training, meditation, running, etc. What works for you?Change your vocabulary and how we speak to each other. Phrases like "There's no way that will work" can change to "How might we adapt things to make this work?"Quick exercise to use to help get started:Think of 5 things that really inspire you and give you energy.Rate 1 to 10 how important they are to you, then rate how integrated they are in your life. Note where you need to integrate more of the things that are important to you.Take small steps forward, and don't wait for permission. Create your own momentum, and others will join you.
