Imagine a blueprint so ambitious it aims to rewire America's government from the ground up. That's Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation's 900-page Mandate for Leadership, published in April 2023, which outlines a radical overhaul to consolidate executive power and install conservative priorities across federal agencies, according to the project's own documentation.At its core, the plan calls for dismantling the Department of Education, shifting its duties like funding under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act to Health and Human Services, while curtailing federal civil rights enforcement in schools. "The federal government should be no more than a statistics-keeping organization when it comes to education," the Mandate states, prioritizing school choice and parental rights over what it deems "woke propaganda." Similarly, it proposes abolishing the Department of Homeland Security, replacing it with a streamlined immigration agency merging Customs and Border Protection and ICE.Key to this vision is replacing tens of thousands of civil servants with loyalists via Schedule F, reclassifying apolitical experts as at-will political appointees. The Heritage Foundation aimed for a 20,000-person personnel database by late 2024 to vet Trump-aligned staff. It seeks direct presidential control over the DOJ and FBI, which the plan blasts as a "bloated bureaucracy... infatuated with a radical liberal agenda," per the Mandate.Fast forward to 2026: President Trump's February executive order, implementing the Department of Government Efficiency, echoes these ideas. It mandates agency reorganization plans by March 13, 2025, large-scale reductions in force, and a hiring ratio of one new employee for every four departures, exempting national security roles, as detailed in White House fact sheets and OPM guidance. By February 2026, the Center for Progressive Reform reports 53 percent of Project 2025's domestic agenda initiated or completed.Experts warn of risks: the ACLU highlights threats to reproductive, LGBTQ, and immigrant rights, while unions like AFGE decry up to a million job losses, eroding nonpartisan expertise. Yet proponents argue it slims bloat, boosts efficiency, and reverses Biden-era policies like environmental regs.As agencies submit Phase 2 plans by April 2025 for full rollout by September, the real test looms—will these reforms streamline governance or politicize it? Two major labor stories from the nation's capital dominate today's episode. First, Dr. Kendrick Roberson, National Vice President of AFGE, joins the show to preview the historic Young Worker March on Washington scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7. Roberson details why workers under 40 are mobilizing near the U.S. Capitol to demand a living wage and relief from the affordability crisis in housing and education. He also discusses the "representation gap"—why 77% of young workers support unions but only 7% are members—and plans to honor AFGE member Alex Pretti during the event. Then, Ryan Marshall, organizer for Ironworkers Local 5, steps in to debunk the "skilled labor shortage" myth. He argues the construction industry isn't facing a worker shortage, but a shortage of good jobs. Marshall highlights the massive data center boom in Northern Virginia, the $48 million cost of worker misclassification in D.C., and why Local 5 is treating mental health and suicide prevention as critical jobsite safety issues. The Education Department's workers union is pushing back after more than 100 technology-related employees lost their collective bargaining protections last month under an executive order citing national security and cybersecurity risks tied to their roles. About 120 employees in the agency's Office of the Chief Information Officer and Federal Student Aid's Office of the Chief Technology Officer were told late last month they no longer had union protections due to the nature of their positions, according to AFGE Local 252, which represents Education Department employees. The notification came nearly nine months after President Donald Trump signed an executive order ending collective bargaining rights for labor unions at various federal agencies. The order included some agencies in their entirety, along with some positions across the government that have a determined “primary function” involving intelligence, counterintelligence, investigative, or national security work. While the CTO and OCIO employees work with technology that could have cybersecurity ties, AFGE Local 252 argues this does not involve intelligence work that would warrant such a ban. “The Department of Education does not engage in any intelligence, counter-intelligence, investigative, or national security work,” AFGE 252 President Rachel Gittleman told FedScoop in an interview, suggesting the move is “just a way to strip labor rights of our federal workforce.” The FSA CTO office specifically does “work on technology” and products, but not information resources management, as the order states, Gittleman explained. FSA employees primarily focus on the office's website, income-driven repayment applications, FAFSA, and public service loan forgiveness applications. An American stealth fighter jet shot down an Iranian one-way attack drone in the Arabian Sea Tuesday after it “aggressively approached” a U.S. aircraft carrier “with unclear intent,” according to a statement from U.S. Central Command. Tim Hawkins said. The dual incidents could spell increased tensions between Washington and Tehran after President Donald Trump threatened military action against Iran over its deadly suppression of protests last month and amid broader nuclear negotiations that could begin this week. The jet, an F-35C Lightning II, launched from the USS Abraham Lincoln, which was transiting the Arabian Sea roughly 500 miles from Iran's southern coast, Centcom said. The Centcom statement did not identify the unit the jet belongs to, but Marine Fighter Attack Squadron-314, the Black Knights, were photographed by the military operating off the Lincoln several days ago. The long-range Iranian drone — a Shahed-139 UAS known for its use in the Russia-Ukraine war and being reverse-engineered into a U.S. military one-way attack drone — “continued to fly toward the ship despite de-escalatory measures taken by U.S. forces operating in international waters,” the command said. The F-35C shot it down “in self-defense” and to protect the Lincoln and her crew, according to the statement, which said that no service members were harmed and no American equipment was damaged. Another week of the world watching America's increasing escalation of violence against ourselves, further degradation of everything we once stood for, while also awaiting millions of overdue Epstein files. The thoroughly documented murder of Alex Pretti by ICE/Border Patrol/DHS agents touched a new nerve when the administration chose to lie, despite visual evidence, and to blame the presence of his un-brandished, licensed firearm as justification for his death. Imagine a blueprint for remaking America's government from the ground up, drawn by conservative architects at the Heritage Foundation. That's Project 2025, launched in April 2023 as the 900-page Mandate for Leadership, a detailed roadmap to consolidate executive power and install loyalists across federal agencies, according to the Heritage Foundation's own documentation.Its stated goal? Reshape the sprawling administrative state into a leaner machine aligned with right-wing priorities. Picture Day One of a new Republican presidency: a stack of executive orders ready to sign, firing tens of thousands of civil servants under the revived Schedule F category, reclassifying them as at-will political appointees. The Heritage Foundation's plan calls for replacing them with vetted personnel from its database, aiming for 20,000 recruits by late 2024. As Government Executive reports, by early 2025, the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, accelerated this—slashing diversity offices, issuing reduction-in-force plans for 70,000 jobs, and targeting agencies like USAID and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which returned $21 billion to scam victims but now faces elimination.Concrete changes abound. The blueprint urges dismantling the Department of Education, shifting programs like those for disabled students to Health and Human Services and curbing federal civil rights enforcement in schools to prioritize “student safety over racial parity in discipline,” per Mandate for Leadership. Imagine a blueprint for remaking America's government from the ground up, drawn by conservative architects at the Heritage Foundation. Launched in April 2023, Project 2025—formally the 2025 Presidential Transition Project—outlines a sweeping overhaul of the federal bureaucracy in its 900-page Mandate for Leadership, according to the Heritage Foundation's own documentation.At its core, the plan champions the unitary executive theory, placing the entire executive branch under direct presidential control. “All federal employees should answer to the president,” Heritage president Kevin Roberts declared, as cited in Wikipedia's overview of the project. Aviation News Air India Boeing 787 Crash Probe Leads to Tussle Between Investigators India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and U.S. agencies, such as the NTSB and FAA, investigating the Air India crash have clashed over where and how to read out the flight recorders, access to evidence, and the overall pace and transparency of the investigation. U.S. officials reportedly feared a lack of openness, while Indian officials pushed back strongly against what they saw as outside interference and challenges to their competence. Some U.S. sources suspect deliberate pilot action, while Indian authorities have downplayed pilot culpability in public. Boom Supersonic Secures Breakthrough AI Engine Deal Boom Supersonic is developing the Symphony propulsion system to power its Overture supersonic airliner. At the same time, AI data centers require enormous compute power, and they need energy to do that. Boom says that it will develop the land-based Superpower 42-megawatt natural gas turbine, based on the Symphony engine. If successful, the Superpower would generate a revenue stream and provide operating data. Crusoe Energy has 29 Superpower units on order, with delivery expected in 2027. Major aero‑derivative OEMs offering ground power generation​ include: General Electric, Siemens Energy, Mitsubishi Power, Rolls‑Royce, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. AvWeek reports that Boom has closed a $300 million funding round, which the company says, together with the AI gas turbine deal, will be sufficient to complete development of the Symphony and initial Overture aircraft. Shortly after takeoff, the plane narrowly avoided a collision with a US Air Force refueling tanker. Spirit Airlines Reaches Another Milestone in its Restructuring as Pilots and Flight Attendants Ratify Agreements Spirit Airlines announced the ratification of labor agreements with pilots (represented by the Air Line Pilots Association) and flight attendants (represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA). The two agreements are subject to court approval. 82% of the pilots voted in favor of the contract, which allows temporary reductions in pay rates and retirement contributions effective January 1, 2026. Pay rates are restored through guaranteed increases on August 1, 2028, and January 1, 2029. Company-funded retirement contributions will be fully restored by July 1, 2029. US invalidates union contract covering 47,000 TSA officers, AFGE vows to challenge The American Federation of Government Employees represents airport screening officers and plans to file a lawsuit after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem terminated the collective bargaining agreement. DHS plans to implement a new labor framework on January 11, 2026, when the collection of union dues from TSA officers’ paychecks will cease. TSA said the new labor framework “will return the agency back into a security-focused framework that prioritizes workforce readiness, resource allocation and mission focus with an effective stewardship of taxpayer dollars.” US signs nearly $140m deal to purchase six Boeing 737s for use in deportations The Department of Homeland Security signed a contract with Arlington, Virginia-based Daedalus Aviation Corporation to purchase six Boeing 737 planes for deportation operations. DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said: “This new initiative will save $279m in taxpayer dollars by allowing ICE to operate more effectively, including by using more efficient flight patterns.” Daedalus Aviation Corporation focuses on turnkey flight operations and specialized charter services for government and high‑stakes commercial clients. They emphasize contingency, evacuation, and other critical missions. Senator says FAA administrator failed to sell multimillion-dollar airline stake as promised Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) says FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford promised to sell his multimillion-dollar stake in Republic Airways under his ethics agreement, but he has failed to do so. Bedford agreed to sell all his shares within 90 days of his confirmation, but 150 days have now passed. In a letter to Bedford, Sen. Cantwell writes, “It appears you continue to retain significant equity in this conflicting asset months past the deadline set to fully divest from Republic, which constitutes a clear violation of your ethics agreement. This is unacceptable and demands a full accounting.” New V-22 Mishap Reviews Find Material Issues with Osprey, Poor Communication Between Services Two new reports point to faulty parts, poorly understood maintenance procedures, and a lack of communication across the services. The result was a lack of safety and reliability across the Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. One report was from the Naval Air Systems Command, and the other was from the Government Accountability Office. Both had been in the works for two years. Twenty people were killed in V-22 Osprey accidents from 2022 to 2024. Congress Postpones A-10 Retirement The A-10 Thunderbolt II (the Warthog) close support aircraft has been on the verge of retirement for years. The National Defense Appropriations Act (NDAA) directs the Air Force to keep at least 103 A-10 aircraft in its inventory until a phaseout in 2029. The NDAA limits retirement plans for other aircraft: KC-10 tankers, the F-15E Strike Eagle, and the E-3 Sentry surveillance plane. Delays in supplying replacements are cited as the reason. Pan Am plans future Airbus A320neo operations as part of Miami launch The “new Pan Am” is a startup effort to revive the Pan American World Airways brand as a U.S. Part 121 scheduled airline. Pan American Global Holdings acquired the rights to the Pan Am brand in 2023. Pan Am intends to deploy Airbus A320neo aircraft as part of its future operations in Miami. There are few details about the executive team, but Ed Wegel is described as a Pan Am co-founder. He is also the founder of AVi8 Air Capital, a niche aviation-focused investment and advisory firm with headquarters in the Miami, Florida area. The company is active in the relaunch of Pan Am, and this year (2025), they completed a comprehensive Pan Am business plan. Boeing Sued By Law Professor After Allegedly Inhaling Toxic Fumes On Cross-Country Flight A law professor who flew on a Boeing 737 aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines last year is suing Boeing, alleging that he suffered serious health issues after being exposed to toxic fumes in the cabin. The nation's largest federal employee union is urging Congress to vote against the House rule for the 2026 defense policy bill. The American Federation of Government Employees says negotiators removed a bipartisan House provision that would have restored collective bargaining rights for hundreds of thousands of Defense Department civilian employees. The union says removing that language means the legislation fails to protect basic rights of workers who maintain ships and aircraft and support service members. Take the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for example. This is one of the only free resources available to Americans facing housing discrimination, but in a shocking complaint letter submitted to Senator Elizabeth Warren on September 22, 2025, civil rights attorneys Palmer Heenan, Paul Osadebe and two other whistleblowers describe an agency in crisis. Staff has been slashed by 70% since Donald Trump took office, civil rights cases have been abandoned, and political appointees are allegedly overriding legal findings to allow discrimination. Every layoff and budget cut by the Trump administration, both within HUD and across federal agencies, is part of a larger plan to create chaos, end civil rights protections, legalize segregation and exert unitary executive power. Heenan and Osadebe, members of the Federal Unionists Network (FUN), are calling on federal employees to uphold their oath to constitution and protect Americans.
