This week we're celebrating Pride Month! In a time when LGBTQ Americans are facing unprecedented attacks in legislation, on social media, in libraries and schools, and everywhere else, we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate everything they bring to this country. The hosts are joined by Mindy and Lily Freeman, a trans high school student and her mom, to authentically share both their joy and their pain. Personal stories are such an antidote to misinformation, and we're so grateful to both Mindy and Lily for sharing their stories. We're also so impressed by their amazing work with the Gender Cool Project, Project Uncensored, PFLAG, and more. After that, Rachel sits down for an interview with Sarah Kate Ellis, the President and CEO of GLAAD - one of the largest advocacy organizations for LGBTQ people. Rachel and Sarah Kate chat about the importance of representation, the unwarranted hysteria over trans athletes, “parents rights,” and what it was like for Sarah Kate being pregnant at the exact same time as her wife! You can read about her wedding and learn more about “All Moms,” the children's book she wrote with her wife Kristen. Finally, Amanda, Rachel and Jasmine raise a glass to blended families, school graduations, road trips, and the beautiful diversity of America in this episode's “Toast to Joy.”Red Wine & Blue has been holding AMA events as a part of our Freedom To Parent 21st Century Kids campaign. AMA stands for Ask Me Anything! And on Thursday, June 8th, we're holding a special AMA event for the Gen Xers in our community. So get your 5 disc changer ready, pull on your best oversized flannel, and head down to the rec room with Jess McIntosh for a virtual conversation about gender where you can feel free to ask questions without any judgment. Episode 37: Weaving the threads (of Winning at fibromyalgia philosophy) together Hello friends. In the past few episodes I discussed individual pieces of the Core Winning at Fibromyalgia program. Today I am coming on here for a sweet short episode to recap, and emphasize the most important pieces and what I am doing about it. I do strongly recommend listening to prior episodes to learn more about the individual steps. In summary, they include: The Neuroplasticity concept – the principle of this is that our central nervous sytem/brain can produce pain that is felt in the body, and more importantly, that it does not have to stay that way. Our brain has an amazing, incredible capacity to rewire itself, with a little bit of help. The concept of Belief - in own's body ability to heal, in our brain capacity to rewire, in ourselves, and our ability to get better. Letting go of the attachment to the outcome. In short it means we can want something very much (to reduce our pain and improve our lives) but it can create a lot of pressure on our brain so it helps to feel certain lightness about our desire and journey to pain reduction. More curiousity and self compassion. The work – mindfulness based techniques that incoude somatic tracking, self compassion, healing emotional wounds from the past. The most important pieces, in my opinion and the common denominator in all success stories are the belief in one's ability to get better, to heal, to be pain free or with significantly less pain AND fierce self -love. I have found on my own journey and from listening to the many women who got better – they believe and they love on themselves. Self-love can be hard to recognize as self love because the societal norms tell us what we “should” and should not do. And we put that pressure on ourselves. Some of the examples of the opposite of self love is: Putting others' need ahead of your own – repeatedly. Many many moms do that. Every day. I just spoke to a good friend of mine whose husband took their kids to his parents for a weekend. For the first time in a long time she had 3 days to herself. She did not know what to do with herself. It was like a vacation. ALL MOMS need that. IF we don't get our cups filled first, we cannot be tehre for other people, our subconcious brain detects a threat and boom, low level fight or flight reaction/stress response is on. Working long hours just to be a good employee or feeling loyal to your employer. I am guilty of this and I am working hard on resolving this issue for myself. Many physicians and non-physicians in health care suffer from this condition – feeling responsible for the patient's outcome so putting in extra time, extra mile to get things done. And many times that is appropriate and even desirable. But not every day, not all the time. The same applies to other industries. Staying in a toxic relationship or seemingly happy relatioinship when our intuition is screaming at us that we should get out. We only have ONE precious life. We have to treat it like gift, we have to treat our health and our bodies as gifts. What we feel, what we are going through matter. We should not be miserable at work or in life every day. So here is what my team and I are doing. Starting at the end of September, I will be hosting weekly calls, For women interested in supportive community and more knowledge about fibromyalgia and what to do about it. We meet and talk about a topic each week I share ways to assess your fibromyalgia and then Prompts to do the tools Or simply answer your questions Being part of the supportive group where everyone knows what the other might have gone through thanks to fibromyalgia is priceless. Support is the other key factor in becoming successful at winning at fibromyalgia. Support of people who know what you are going through, who hear you, see you AND believe in you. That's what I will be doing for you guys. There will be a small fee associated with this activity, paid monthly, it will be a close knit and private community to get us started. We will get to know each other story well, to whatever is each of you feeling comfortable, And we share our knowledge and stories and tips every week I will moderate it and it will be a positive, private, and confidential type of setting where everyone participating will feel comfortable and safe. www.winningatfibromyalgia admin@martinaziegenbeinmdcoaching.com facebook name: martina lenartova

God has called me to encourage and equip ALL MOMS, no matter where your children receive their education. I know that circumstances are unique for every family. Even though I've been a homeschool mom for 24 years, my ministry is not limited to just homeschoolers. That being said, I do get a lot of questions about homeschooling, and this week I decided to answer your questions. I thought I'd give you a little peek into my heart and mind on my choices about education for my kids in episode 99 of the Practically Speaking MOM Podcast. Here's the questions we'll be covering in Episode 99 of the Practically Speaking MOM Podcast:Why do I not like the word, "Homeschooling" and what do I like instead? How does Homeschooling differ from other options? What are the PROS & CONS of homeschooling and what do I do about the cons if I decide to homeschool? How can I manage my littles when I need to teach the older kids? Val will share SEVEN tips on this question!!!What should my homeschool schedule look like? How can I help my children reach MASTERY in their different subjects? No matter what education option you choose, in this episode you will find some academic helps for all all of you! Such as, learning some skills for helping your student to achieve MASTERY of each of their subjects. Doesn't it feel like we are constantly making difficult decisions about our children's lives. We wrestle with each choice. We stress. We pray. We just so badly want to choose well in our parenting. Where your kids go to school and how they get their education is just one of the many ways you strive to do what is best for your child. None of us are cookie-cutter families. We each have unique plans and purposes. It's okay for us to not choose the same options for our families. In this episode, I had the privilege of connecting with Dr. Christine Sterling, who is not only a mom herself, but is a board-certified OB-GYN, on a mission to ensure women get the maternal care support they deserve - emotionally and medically. Her passion for supporting women to confidently and calmly navigate motherhood, postpartum and the fourth trimester, challenging society's views of what a perfect mom should look like - is just the kind of support moms need. So, why are we expected to be perfect moms all the time? Who created this image of perfection in motherhood? Being a mom is the most rewarding job, but it can also be one of the toughest. It can seem like everything you do is constantly under scrutiny. There is so much mom shaming going on, which makes you constantly second guess if you're worthy. But guess what? YOU ARE! You are enough mama! This episode is so powerful and inspiring! Here's what we'll be digging into today: >> Addressing mom guilt around how you chose to feed your baby >>Doable goals around breastfeeding and pivoting when it doesn't work out >>Handling those unhelpful criticisms that seem to be in plenty during postpartum >>Where this idea version of the "perfect mom" came from >>Why comparing yourself to other moms on social media isn't practical Grab a comfy spot, and listen in - and please share it with your friends! When we asked Gabrielle to describe her birth in 3-4 sentences, all we could focus on was the last line; "Our story is to remind ALL MOMS to stay the course, work your journey, and PUSH BACK when medical practitioners say "No." Her birth story is a testament to her unwavering faith and fight for justice. From the beginning, Gabrielle and her fiance knew with the birth of their son; they were going to do things differently this time around. They hired a doula, hired a midwife, and began preparing for their homebirth. Yet seven months into their pregnancy, they were hit with the news that their midwife wouldn't be able to support them, and they had to go back to the drawing board. They visited different hospitals until they found one that felt right and enrolled in a nine-week intensive birth class. In this class, not only did they learn about childbirth but how to control their care, work with sand speak with their care providers to ensure that all decisions were based on and from informed consent. The lessons learned from this class would be vital in their advocacy and care during and after their son's birth.Gabrielle went into spontaneous labor and, for the most part, was progressing well. However, during a cervical check, it was noticed that he was breech - her sons positioned was never checked during their last appointment or even upon their arrival to the hospital. The on-call midwife advised her that they would need to move forward with surgical birth. With hesitation, they sought a second opinion and, after talking through their options with family, decided to continue with the surgical birth. Her son was born, but not breathing - care providers eventually revived him, but due to the length of time he was without oxygen, they were unsure if he would make it through the night. Gabrielle made that doctor eat his words, pray with her and her family, and demanded that no stone go unturned in her son's care. Her experience highlights the dark parts of birth, the parts we hope never happen, and yet it brings forth what can happen when you have the pieces to be empowered and use them fully.

The SHL team also shares their thoughts on Mark 6:31, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest," as good advice for ALL moms this week. Enjoy!
Pastor Joey delivers a stirring message in celebration of ALL Moms: biological, adopted and spiritual and how they reflect the love given by God.
Amy’s husband Ben makes a cameo in the intro and outro of this week’s episode...he hasn’t been on in a while (so if you’ve missed him...he’ll be back for an official “thing” soon). FIRST THING: Nicole Modic (@KaleJunkie) is back on to discuss the recovery side of her eating disorder and how she was able to heal her relationship with food. SECOND THING: Mom comparison is real. Working moms vs. stay at home moms. Amy shares a quick little post from Jessica Honegger’s instagram page (@JessicaHonegger) about how ALL MOMS matter...the working ones + the ones that are able to volunteer and do all the things at school because they don’t have a job. THIRD THING: Are you a YES PERSON??? Then you need to hear this. Amy talks with counselor + life coach, Kim Anderson, (@kim_anderson_life) about the power of saying no and creating boundaries in your life. It really is freeing. So listen to this and take notes. FORTH THING: Did you know that a group wrote songs for each enneagram??? Yep. Apparently, when you hear the song that is your number...you will get really emotional. Amy shares an email that she got about the songs and where you can hear them! Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

Slater tells everyone what his gift to ALL MOMS will be this Year + AshIey prepares for Gum Surgery + Game of Thrones Coffee Cup Saga Continues
This week’s episode is SO MUCH FUN! We talked with four normal (amazing) moms who shared some of their funniest and most outlandish mom fails with us. This is an hour of stomach-clenching, tear-streaming, head-shaking laughter that you are sure to enjoy! We love mom fails because ALL MOMS have them but our society is so aimed at perfection that no moms WANT to admit and share them. Instead, they are hushed. And shamed. Instead of moms having a cathartic laugh at all the imperfections, they feel underqualified and overly flawed. We believe in being the best moms that we can be, but we also believe that there is a HUGE difference between a mom who is trying and a mom who is perfect. Perfection doesn’t actually exist (outside of social media)! Real life equals successes and failures with a goal to learn from the past and do better on the next go round...maybe….it might take a few go rounds. So let’s enjoy life’s imperfections and let’s have a good laugh at those times when we mean to soar but instead we trip on our own feet, hit the wall, and fall down the stairs into a laundry basket full of dirty socks! In addition to the great mom fails in this episode, listen in to also hear: Why no one wants Beth, Andrea and Camille to watch their kids anymore. Why you can say whatever you want if you preface it with “Bless your heart…” How Andrea got her boys to start BEGGING to mop the floor. Whaaaat???? Bios Natalie Haddock: Natalie is pretty much the greatest and she hates writing bios. Ok. Fine! I’m the mother of 4 boys. Miraculously they’ve only had 1 broken leg and 1 set of staples among them, so I guess that makes me a pretty good mom. I’ve been trying to lose the last 10 pounds for the last 6 years and still haven’t figured that out. Melissa Parr: I’m currently a stay at home mom with two adorable and sassy little girls. I, quite recently won a year-long potty training battle and am teaching my baby to crawl (which is harder than it sounds because her head is twice the size of her body). I love dancing, reading historical fiction, and eating chocolate chips dipped in peanut butter when there are no “official” snacks in the house...every single night. Biz Hancuff: I’m a wife and mother of three beautiful, smart, funny, amazing, sassy, smelly, stressful monstrous children...who I adore. Like most of you, I’ve had many different jobs, none of which even came close to preparing me for the job of mothering. It’s joyous and nightmarish in one breath. It’s beautiful and ugly simultaneously. And it is exhilarating and exhausting all at once. It’s an experience unlike anything else...one I would not trade for the world! Danna Parker: I’m a mother of three smart and fun boys. I love working out, especially zumba and power tone classes. I love the great outdoors and enjoy spending time with my family on hikes, paddleboarding and boating. Advice given: Just be you. Embrace who you are and just do mothering how you do it! If you are doing mothering authentically to who you are, you’re doing it right. - Biz Stop yelling at your kids...just whisper. It’s proven to be more effective at getting their attention. - Danna
