Motherhood comes with plenty of advice, but some of the most meaningful wisdom often comes from women who are living it every day. In this short and heartfelt solo episode, Amy shares advice gathered from the incredible women behind the scenes of Expecting and Empowered. Beyond creating workouts and supporting the E&E community, these women are moms themselves, each with unique experiences and lessons learned along the way. This special episode is dedicated to the mothers coming behind them, especially those navigating the early days of parenthood. From reminders that you are the best mom for your children to the reassurance that your love doesn't divide but expands with each child you welcome into your family, Amy shares encouragement that every mom needs to hear. The advice from the team also emphasizes the importance of leaning on your village, asking for and accepting help when it's offered, and remembering that you and your partner are on the same team as you raise your young family. No matter what season of motherhood you find yourself in, this episode offers comfort, perspective, and the kind of advice that feels like sitting down with a trusted friend who's a few steps ahead! If you enjoyed listening to this episode, we would love it if you could share it to your Instagram stories and tag us @expectingandempowered. Tired of starting over every Monday? Feeling like you can lose weight but can't keep it off? In this episode, I'm sharing the 5 things every busy mom needs to do to make weight loss sustainable. No crash diets. No extremes. Just practical strategies that fit real life and help you create results that last.
I've spent a lot of time thinking about what the word "self-assured" actually means in the context of motherhood. And I think somewhere along the way, a lot of us accidentally absorbed this idea that being self-assured means being self-sufficient — that if we were really emotionally healthy or mature or confident, we would just… handle everything on our own. But what I observed at my SAM Retreat last month completely reframed that for me. The women who seemed most grounded and alive and resilient weren't the ones who never needed support. They were the ones who knew how to seek it, receive it, and offer it to others. In this episode, I'm sharing three takeaways from the retreat, and I hope you walk away feeling more convinced than ever that thriving in motherhood was never meant to be a solo endeavor.

If you're already feeling the pressure of summer before it's even started, this episode is going to feel like a deep breath. I sat down with planning expert Megan Sumrell to talk about how to create a summer that feels intentional instead of chaotic. We talked about the mindset shifts that helped her stop feeling like she was constantly torn between work, motherhood, and everything else demanding her attention, plus the simple planning strategies she uses to make summer feel lighter and more enjoyable. From her “A Day/B Day” approach to realistic routines, flexible structure, and protecting time for yourself without guilt, this conversation is full of practical ideas that will help you enjoy this season more instead of feeling behind the whole time. Mentioned in This Episode:
In this episode, we're having an honest, slightly superficial, but very real conversation about the pressure to keep up your appearance as a mom in Orange County. From feeling like everyone always looks put together, to figuring out what actually makes us feel good in this season of motherhood, we break down where we feel the most pressure, what we personally prioritize, and how we try to balance looking good, feeling good, and simply surviving the day. We know this conversation isn't the deepest thing in the world, but that's kind of the point. Sometimes the pressure is real, even when we know it shouldn't matter as much as it does. So if you've ever felt behind, frumpy, overwhelmed, or like everyone else is somehow keeping it together better than you, this episode is your reminder that you are absolutely not alone. We're giving moms permission to care about their appearance without shame, to have hard days without guilt, and to find the small things that help them feel more like themselves again. New here? Start with our Start Here playlist — five episodes that will change how you think about motherhood If your daughter is heading to college and talking about rushing a sorority, this episode is required listening — for you, not her. Between the mom guilt, the mental load of managing her college transition, and the overwhelm of a process you don't fully understand, rush season can send even the most grounded mom into a tailspin. Trisha Addicks is a 30-year Rush consultant, author of The Rush Bible: Secrets to Crush Sorority Recruitment and Find Your Forever Greek Home, and was featured in the viral Bama Rush documentary. She has helped hundreds of families navigate one of the most emotionally charged processes in a young woman's college experience. And her number one piece of advice for moms? Back off — but in the most loving, supportive way possible. In this episode, JoAnn and Trisha break down everything you actually need to know about sorority rush, from how the matching process works (it's more like a two-way algorithm than you think) to how to support your daughter without accidentally making it worse. What you'll learn: How the rush process actually works, step by step — from the virtual first round all the way to bid day Why your daughter can be cut before she even sets foot in a house (and what that means) The single most important thing moms can do during rush week — and it's not what you think The biggest mistake moms make when their daughter calls crying (and what to say instead) Why sorority rush at NYU or an Ivy League is just as high stakes as Bama Rush — even if it looks different The #1 misconception about sororities that the TikTok OOTDs are getting completely wrong How to build your own support squad so you don't put your anxiety on your daughter What sorority life actually looks like day-to-day (hint: it's a lot more than parties) Why listening — not prepared questions — is the skill your daughter needs to practice before rush Trisha's biggest reminder for moms: "This is not your journey. It's hers. All you want is for her to find her people — and it doesn't matter what letters are on the door." 6 Time Lies Every Mom Believes (And How to Think Differently) I don't have enough time. There aren't enough hours in the day. I just can't keep up. Sound familiar? If you've said any version of these things — and most moms have — this episode is going to challenge you in the best possible way. Because what if everything you've believed about time is actually working against you? What if the problem isn't that you don't have enough time, but that you've been believing lies about it that keep you stuck in stress and overwhelm? In this episode, Danielle walks through Step 5 of the Cyclone Mom Method — taking back control of your time — by exposing the six most common time lies moms believe, and offering a completely different set of questions to ask instead. In this episode, you'll hear: The 6 specific time lies most moms believe — and why they keep you feeling behind and overwhelmed A faith-based perspective on why 24 hours is actually enough The powerful questions that replace each lie and shift how you experience your day What we actually don't have time for (hint: it's not what you think) Practical next steps for changing your relationship with time starting this week If you've ever felt like time is your enemy, this episode will help you see it as something else entirely. In this episode, JoAnn dives into the friendship patterns that leave so many women feeling drained, lonely, and afraid to speak honestly. This conversation offers real mom support for women who constantly over-explain, avoid conflict, and silence themselves just to keep relationships intact. JoAnn shares personal stories about friendships that ended painfully and the powerful realization that changed everything: healthy relationships are not relationships without conflict. They're relationships where both people can handle honesty, accountability, and emotional safety without turning each other into the villain. If you've ever felt like you were “too much,” too sensitive, or emotionally exhausted from carrying the weight of a friendship, this episode will help you recognize the red flags of emotionally unsafe relationships—and what healthy connection actually looks like. The One Thing Every Mom Wants
If you've been feeling the weight and pressure of motherhood, if you've been second-guessing yourself, or if you're simply looking for a practical, scripture-based strategy to raise godly kids — don't skip this one.
What if the years where you feel less rested, less resilient, less yourself aren't burnout or bad parenting — but a hormonal transition no one prepared you for? This episode tackles a question every woman asks herself: am I losing my edge, or is something actually happening to me? I'm joined by Dr. Mary Claire Haver — the OB-GYN whose work has reshaped how an entire generation of women, doctors, and families talk about midlife, and the first person who made me feel sane in my own body when symptoms started showing up in my early 40s. We talk about why perimenopause is landing earlier than most women expect, why it gets misread as postpartum lag, work stress, or just "getting older," and why so many plugged-in women hear from their doctors that everything looks fine when nothing feels fine. What you'll learn: Why perimenopause is a brain event before it's an ovary event — and the symptoms (brain fog, mood swings, sleep disruption, weight changes, even a frozen shoulder) that can show up years before your periods get irregular, and almost never get connected back to hormones, even by your own doctor The real story of the Women's Health Initiative: what scared a generation of clinicians away from hormone therapy, what the evidence actually says now, and how to think about menopause hormone therapy, vaginal estrogen, and testosterone for women without the fear and without the scams (looking at you, vaginal lasers and pellet pushers) The non-negotiables to start in your 30s and 40s if you can — sleep, protein, lifting heavy, vitamin D, and finding a menopause-certified clinician — plus the five buckets of female sexual function Knowing what's happening inside your own body isn't extra. It's how you stop feeling crazy, find a clinician who actually believes you, and protect the version of yourself who gets to enjoy the decades still ahead. There are major gaps in pregnancy and postpartum fitness—and moms are the ones paying the price.Too many women are left piecing together random workouts, avoiding exercises out of fear, or feeling completely lost after being “cleared” postpartum with no real guidance on what to do next. If you've ever wondered whether you're doing the “right” workouts during pregnancy or postpartum, you're not alone. And more importantly—you are not the problem. In this episode, I'm breaking down the biggest gaps in pregnancy and postpartum fitness: the lack of intentional programming during pregnancy, outdated and fear-based advice, the absence of real postpartum support, and the massive “now what?” phase moms experience months (and even years) after birth. We'll also talk about what moms actually need instead to support their body at every stage. If you're tired of guessing and ready for a smarter, more supportive approach to fitness in motherhood, this episode is for you.[NOW OPEN] Built For Motherhood Fitness Membership for pregnancy, postpartum, and busy moms. Motherhood is beautiful—but let's be honest, it can also feel overwhelming, exhausting, and, at times, like you're barely staying afloat. In this heartfelt episode, Suzanne and her daughter McKenzie sit down to talk directly to moms in every season—from the joyful to the struggling, from the confident to the completely worn out. Together, they introduce a powerful new resource: letters to moms—written from decades of experience, deep compassion, and a desire to remind you that you are not alone. Whether you feel angry, unseen, bored, fulfilled, or like you're drowning under the weight of it all, this conversation meets you right where you are. One of the most powerful reminders from this episode? When you feel like you're sinking, it's not a sign you're failing—it's an invitation to reach for Jesus. Just like Peter walking on water, we can cry out, “Lord, save me,” and trust that He will meet us with grace, strength, and peace. You'll walk away encouraged, seen, and equipped with simple, practical ways to “win the day”—even in the chaos. If this episode resonates with you, don't stop here. "Create the habit of cooking at home, making food with your children, and controlling the nutrients and type of food your family eats" Managing our Sugar intake is perhaps the key to great dental & oral health, which in turn is the foundation of good, long-term health. Eating too much sugar from a young age is in fact detrimental for our physical health as we grow older. Therefore, making meals at home, talking about food with our children, and teaching them about good oral health (where it starts) would benefit them later in life. This week our guest is Jade Seeliger, professional Dietitian (and mom of 3 busy kids). She reveals one of the tips to clever eating plans: make it simple yet beautiful, but don't get bogged down with calorie counting. (The podcast content may contain sensitive topics. Listenerdiscretion is advised.)This week, our team dug into two recent cases of sextrafficking involving young girls and women. These cases were so brutal and heartbreaking they make you stop in your tracks. As we read and analyzed them, one conviction rose to the surface: never again should another young person beviolated, manipulated, or sexually exploited. On this episode of the Protect & Prevent Podcast (P3Kids), Opal Singleton Hendershot of MillionKids.org, one of the leading voices in keeping kids safe from predators, speaks directly to all moms about the conversations that can protect their daughters long before a predator ever enters the picture. Today's pimps and exploiters use every doorway availableincluding social media, dating apps, gaming chats, school hallways, malls, even friendships to access, seduce, groom, and ultimately trap their victims. One trafficker openly admitted he targeted girls with “low self‑esteem.” To the girl, it feels like a relationship. To the exploiter, it's a strategy. Too often it turns into a nightmare she thinks she can't escape. We break down how to build the kind of confidence andclarity that makes a young person hard to recruit. Because self‑esteem isn't something you're born with, it's a decision you make every day.We encourage young people to write down their values, define who they are, and decide what they stand for. We talk about what a healthy relationship looks like, what red flags to run from, and how sex (in the right context) is a bond, not a weapon. But in the wrong hands, it becomes a tool ofcontrol, shame, and pain. And above all, we dismantle one of the most destructive lieskids so often believe. We want them to know there is no such thing as “damaged goods.” No matter what has happened, it is never too late to step out of a harmful situation. You are valuable. You are loved. You can choose differently starting today.Because sometimes the four most powerful words a youngperson can hear are: “I believe in you.”TWO RECENT CASES: Stockton man found guilty of sextrafficking, abusing foster youth David Hall case. We dive into **Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST)** and how hidden tension in a baby's body can show up as colic, constant crying, trouble nursing, poor sleep, or a generally unhappy baby.Lori explains how the birth process, positioning in the womb, and even seemingly “normal” deliveries can leave babies holding tension in their tiny bodies. She knelt before Jesus and asked for the wrong thing. And then she stayed — all the way to the cross. In this episode of the Bible Moms series, Kate and Rebecca study Salome, the mother of James and John — two of Jesus’ 12 disciples. She’s bold, she’s ambitious for her sons, and she dares to ask Jesus for their seats of power in his kingdom. Jesus says no. But here’s the thing: she didn’t leave. She kept following. She kept showing up. And she was standing at the foot of the cross when most of the disciples had scattered. Sound familiar, moms? This episode is for every mom who has prayed for her child’s success, missed out on what God was actually doing, and had to relearn what greatness really looks like. Kate and Rebecca get personal — sharing stories about soccer tryouts, kids in seventh grade, quiet times walked in on, and the moment God rerouted their prayers completely. 5 HARDER PRAYERS FOR YOUR KIDS (that are more powerful) 1. In this episode, Shelby sits down with Carly Porter — a stay-at-home mom of three (with baby number four on the way) who has been sharing her real, everyday life online and unintentionally building a community through honest, relatable content.Carly opens up about how social media first started as a creative outlet during the busy and sometimes overwhelming seasons of motherhood. What began as a simple way to connect and share stories slowly turned into something bigger as more people began relating to her raw, funny, and authentic moments as a mom.During the conversation, Carly shares the unexpected moment she received an opportunity to join the NUUDS creator program — something she never saw coming. She talks about the mix of excitement, disbelief, and imposter syndrome that followed, and how this experience pushed her to start taking content creation more seriously while still staying true to who she is.Shelby and Carly dive into conversations many women quietly struggle with: comparison on social media, the fear of judgment, balancing motherhood with personal dreams, and learning how to show up online without overthinking every post. Carly shares what it's really like to build something online while raising small children and why embracing imperfection has been one of her biggest lessons. They also talk about the importance of setting boundaries with social media, protecting your mental health, and remembering that connection matters far more than numbers or engagement. Carly shares practical encouragement for moms who feel called to create but hesitate because of fear, time constraints, or outside opinions. This conversation is honest, encouraging, and filled with moments that will resonate with anyone trying to navigate motherhood, creativity, and personal growth at the same time.If you've ever wondered whether there's space for you online, whether your voice matters, or if you're capable of building something while managing the chaos of real life — this episode is a reminder that there is always room at the table.Connect with our guest:https://www.instagram.com/carly__porterCarly Porter is a mom of 3, soon to be 4, based in Southern California. Sign up for the Faith & Family Workshop HERE!Today I want to talk about a 2nd way you can find joy in motherhood and that is in embracing a shift in your parenting style that will change the way you feel about parenting. When I get on a coaching call with almost every client who is a young mom, their biggest question usually comes down to, “What consequence can I give so that they stop this behavior?”And while I do think there's a place for consequences – natural consequences that result from undesirable behavior – I think that a better way to parent is see your role as teacher and leader of your children rather than a punisher or simply managing behavior.Check out my free resources on marriage, parenting, home management, and faith life/mindset at janetquinlan.comFollow me on Instagram @janetquinlancoaching

In this episode, I'm sharing three things I want you to start thinking about as we get close to the end of the yar. These things will set you up really well when you sit down to create your vision for the new year. They come from two books I read in November, and it was really encouraging to see how much of the research lined up with what we've been doing in the Thriving in Motherhood Planner and Journal since 2015. But these books also highlighted a few angles that I think can help us look at things a little differently. In this episode, I walk you through: Why moms burn out Three ways to actually complete the stress cycle How to use your part as a tool instead of something that weighs you down What makes a future vision powerful enough to influence your present Why pausing every 90 days changes everything These ideas aren't about rushing into goals or "fixing" anything. They're just little shifts that help you understand what's going on inside your days so you can move into the new year with clairty and purpose.

Knowing the facts about grief can help you navigate your experience of loss. Understanding and navigating the complexities of grief can be vital for maintaining one's mental health. Grief is multifaceted, and it's essential to grasp the facts about grief to support not only ourselves but also those around us. Grief is a Lifelong Journey One key fact about grief is that it's a lifelong relationship with something we cannot change. Everyone experiences grief differently. This process isn't linear, and there's no timeline for healing. It's essential to recognize that grief doesn't have a definitive endpoint. Instead, it's about learning to live with the loss while integrating it into our lives. Healing Does Not Mean Forgetting A significant fact about grief is that healing doesn't equate to forgetting. Instead, it allows you to remember with more love than pain. This transition involves acknowledging the love and memories without being overwhelmed by sorrow. It's about embracing the joyful moments amid grief, which can help transform the pain into a source of peace. The Role of Grace and Strategy Navigating grief requires a mix of accepting grace and employing effective strategies. Acknowledging the ebb and flow of emotions is crucial. It's about granting yourself the grace to experience and express these emotions without deadlines, demands, or judgment. Integrating strategies for self-care and emotional expression can facilitate the processing of grief, allowing moments of joy and healing to emerge naturally. Community and Connection Another vital fact about grief is the power of community and connection. Grieving individuals benefit immensely from support systems. Simple acts, such as a phone call, a walk together, or acknowledging significant dates, can have a profound impact. Real connections enable those grieving to feel seen and heard, offering comfort that transcends words. Transforming Pain into Purpose Lastly, a crucial aspect of grief is its capacity to transform pain into purpose. Many find that their experiences with loss can lead to new beginnings, helping others navigate similar paths. This transformative power can bring light out of darkness, inspiring a journey toward renewed purpose and joy. Understanding these facts about grief can help you and those around you navigate the complicated emotions that emerge. Equipped with this knowledge, you can approach grief with compassion, patience, and a deeper understanding of its complexities. Remember, healing is about living with gratitude and love, cherishing the memories of those we've lost while embracing the beauty of life. About Margo Fordonski Margo Fordonski is on a mission to help other grieving moms learn to fully grieve. Through compassionate coaching and personalized strategies, she guides grieving moms in finding peace, resilience, and renewed hope. Join the DARKNESS SYNDICATE for the ad-free version: https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateFrom toddlers casually chatting with deceased relatives to the ghostly cries of orphaned children still echoing through abandoned buildings, tonight's stories explore the unsettling connection between children and the paranormal through real accounts from terrified parents, witnesses, and those who were once haunted children themselves.Take the WEIRD DARKNESS LISTENER SURVEY and help mold the future of the podcast: https://weirddarkness.com/surveyIN THIS EPISODE: It's been said that kids are more open to the supernatural, perhaps because their minds haven't been closed off to the possibilities that ghosts really exist. That makes stories about childhood hauntings even creepier. The real stories I'll be sharing in this episode include ghosts encountered by kids of all ages. The stories might convince you that the nightlight your child insists stay on in the bedroom, needs to stay on for a reason. (Haunted Children) *** There's something inherently chilling about old orphanages. Maybe it's the fact that scary orphanage stories abound - after all, the buildings are associated with heartbroken and lonely children. And not all of these tales concern the living. Plenty of real life ghost stories feature orphanages filled with restless and vengeful child spirits. (Orphanage Ghosts) *** And what should you do if your child says they see a ghost? Do you tell them there is no such thing? Do you encourage them to believe more fully? What's the right thing to do? A couple of child psychologists have a few ideas on what you can do.
