Create Sales meetings in minutes. Lisa Thal is an Author, Speaker, and Business Coach. She has over 36 years of marketing, sales, and leadership experience. She wrote the book "Three Word Meetings."  Lisa coaches leaders on creating sales and business meetings with fun and interesting 3-word topics to create a conversation and inspire your sales team.   Episode 199, Why Moms Matter!   In this episode, I share my personal experiences of why Moms matter.   I was hiking the pups enjoying nature and thinking about my Mom and Mother's Day. What I know for sure is being a Mom is not easy. Moms make sacrifices for us. What Moms do better than most is to help their kids create a pathway for their kid's journey.   I also know Moms, including Mom Thal, are doing their best to raise their kids. Moms get the most out of each day with tasks switching from work to their kids' lives, friends, and family demands, and they do it with such grace. It's not easy, nor is life, as my Mom would say.    I am so grateful to have the ability to see and talk to my Mom. At 92 years old, I don't take for granted each conversation, each time I get to hug her, hold her hand, and tell her how much I love her. I know today can be challenging for many listening because your moms are no longer here, so I am thinking of you. I am confident your Moms are smiling down on you today on the person you have become and your impact on others.   Why Moms Matter!  As I get older, I realize their significance in our lives.   Moms matter for many reasons. They are a source of unconditional love and support, providing comfort and assurance in times of need. The one person that could make me feel better when I was sick or sad was my Mom. Reflecting on my life in those moments, I always felt better knowing my Mom was by my side.     Moms matter because they represent strength and stability in our lives. From early childhood, moms are our first teachers and guides, nurturing us with love, discipline, and lessons that will help shape us into confident, capable adults.     One lesson Mom Thal taught me was the ability to be independent and take care of yourself. She taught us the importance of financially taking care of ourselves, including getting a good education and job, giving the employer more than expected, and Being a great friend! This was her number one goal for all our children.     Moms matter because they are the cornerstone of families, providing a steady and reliable presence throughout life's challenges. They are our biggest supporters, always offering encouragement and guidance as we strive to reach our goals.    Moms matter because they give us the tools to navigate life's problems. They offer guidance, support, and advice to help us make meaningful decisions and cope with difficult situations. Moms provide emotional support and understanding, allowing us to work through anger, sadness, loneliness, and fear. Moms are conflict resolutionists. They show us how to deal with conflict and find solutions for us.   Moms matter because they love us unconditionally, no matter our path. They are our biggest cheerleaders, lifting us up when needed and helping to build our confidence and self-esteem.   Moms make sacrifices. Rarely putting themselves first. I see it daily with my sisters, friends, and the women I work with who give endless hours of time and energy to improve their kids' lives.     Moms matter because they provide a deep and lasting connection between ourselves, our families, and our friends. They give us a sense of belonging and security, teaching us the importance of forging meaningful relationships.    This is the great lesson I learned from my Mom. I witnessed the countless friendships she developed with all the people at UC Health and her deep connections with her friends. At 92, some of her dearest friends have passed, and she still shares those heart-connection moments she experienced.      Moms are irreplaceable and an invaluable part of our lives. From the moment we are born until the day we depart this earth, their love is a constant source of strength and comfort that can help guide us through life's journey. No matter the circumstances, moms always matter in our lives.   So I am asking you to join me in putting down your phones, call or sit with your Mom and let her know how much you appreciate all she did and has done for you. You may have had some challenging moments, but that is life.    I am forever grateful for My Mom.  She impacted and shaped my life.  Her life Matters!     Thanks for joining me this week. Why is it so dangerous to have Black babies in America?April 11-17th is Black Maternal Health Week, and so we are replaying one of our favourite episodes from 2021 with guest Representative Lauren Underwood of Illinois, a nurse and former senior advisor to President Obama. We discuss how this country is failing Black mothers, and her incredible Momnibus Act, a suite of 12 bills designed to improve Black maternal health outcomes in America, where Black women are dying in or after childbirth at 3x-4x rates of white women. In this incredible conversation, Rep. Underwood goes deep to help us understand the complexities of the problem, the crushing personal inspiration for her work, and what we can all do to help.-----------Have feedback or questions? In our mainstream culture, at least in the States, mothers have spent perhaps hundreds of years deprioritizing ourselves and our own spiritual, mental, and physical health in favor of everyone around us. I think of my own blessed mother and how much she unintentionally martyred herself in order to please the ones she cared for. And how her mother did the same. And probably her mother before that. And so it goes, generations and generations back. In some ways, we can see the beauty of that. It's part of what it means to embody a Mother Archetype - to love and nurture and lift up the ones we love the most. And favoring others over ourselves also has some potentially pretty devastating consequences at the individual, family, and community levels. Many of us have lost sight of boundaries, of the energetics of harmony and how to create it, and of true self-responsiblity for our own health and self-care. Today's guest is Dr. Christy Matusiak, a holistically-driven chiropractic physician. She has spent over the last decade helping patients overcome autoimmune conditions, pain, and chronic illnesses. She uses many systems to identify the root cause and support all areas of health (physical, nutritional, emotional, and energetic). As a holistic doctor, and mom to three boys, Dr. Christy used her personal and professional perspectives to author the book “Coordinating the Chaos – Through Birth and Burnout.” Dr. Christy and I talk about the art of surrender, the importance of personalized self-care routines, the new paradigm of medical care, and how we can alchemize the chaos of motherhood into absolute beauty. Dr. Christy is a refreshing voice, reminding us to fill our own cups first. A woman's right to choose is under renewed attack in America and the federal protection it has benefited from for so long, however tenuous, is closer than ever to going away.  It's vitally important we understand the underlying systems behind any singular issue, and ask “Why is this this way?” and “Does it have to be this way?” It is 14 times more deadly to deliver a baby than to have a legal abortion in America. We have no universal healthcare, we have no mandatory paid sick leave, we have no mandatory paid parental leave, we have no mandatory paid time off, preschool is unaffordable, childcare is unaffordable, mental health care is unaffordable, diapers are unaffordable. And so before this — before this decision comes down, before they use this precedent and legal approach to start to ban abortions immediately after conception, before they try to ban contraception altogether, and more —  — we have some of the highest maternal death rates in the developed world, and if you're poor or a Black woman or both — they're 3-4x higher.  Last year I had Representative Lauren Underwood of Illinois on the show to talk about the heartbreaking reason maternal health means so much to her, about her incredible Momnibus Act, about how and why we treat moms the way we do in this country, and what the hell we can all do about it. I learned so much from Lauren, and we got an overwhelming response from folks inside and outside the system who are fighting for better care every day, and folks who truly didn't understand the scope of how dangerous it is to have a baby in America. Lauren is an inspiration and a leader and I couldn't think of a more appropriate conversation to replay this week in light of what's happening. ----------- Have feedback or questions? http://www.twitter.com/importantnotimp (Tweet us), or send a message to questions@importantnotimportant.com New here? In this episode, we discuss the topic of maternal mental health with Holly Brooks and Calisa Kastning. On Mother's Day, the partners announced the launch of their passion project, Moms Matter Now with the aim of supporting and empowering women as they transition into motherhood. For those unfamiliar with these names, Brooks is a two-time Olympian and U.S. Ski Team alumn who became a licensed professional counselor after retiring from professional skiing in 2016. After struggling with infertility as a result of RED-S, Brooks successfully conceived and became the mom to twins, born in August, 2017. Kastning moved to Anchorage from Montana ten years ago, just a few weeks before the birth of her first of three children. She and her husband, Andrew, were led to Alaska by the job as head coach of University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), which Andrew ultimately accepted. Kastning is now the executive director of Skiku, a nonprofit which brings cross country skiing to children in remote towns in the far reaches of the Last Frontier. As we discuss, there is so much more to this topic than clinical postpartum depression and anxiety. The transition to motherhood is a time in many women's lives where it is common to experience feelings of identity loss, isolation, resentment, body frustration, and sadness, despite also feeling excited and happy to be a new parent. Brooks explains that endurance athletes are perhaps especially primed for these feelings. Through the Moms Matter Now platform and the online courses they are building, they hope to provide women with the tools to prepare for the emotional and psychological changes they might experience surrounding pregnancy and into motherhood, and to empower each participant to prioritize their own well-being in order to be the mother, partner, athlete, employee, and more, that she wants to be. To follow Moms Matter Now, you can subscribe to email updates via their website, momsmatternow.com or follow them on Facebook and Instagram @momsmatternow. Her “Momnibus Act” is a suite of 12 bills designed to improve Black maternal health outcomes in America, where Black women are dying in or after childbirth at 3x-4x rates of white women. In this incredible conversation, Rep. Underwood goes deep to help us understand the complexities of the problem, the crushing personal inspiration for her work, and what we can all do to help. We have no words to describe the pain the world is in right now but we truly believe that a change is on the brink and we are all going to come out stronger and better in the future. It’s Complicated likes to spread the light where we can and today we are shining it on Moms, who we know are some of the strongest humans on the planet. Here to help us with that task is our guest, mom of 4 girls, host of Moms Matter and creator of Los Angeles Mom Magazine, Shirin Yadegar! We discuss how parenting can sometimes make you feel lonely and how her site helps you feel like you are a part of a community, why you shouldn’t let your older children parent your younger children, how putting your partner first not only keeps love alive but provides a great example for your kids, why age is just a number when it comes to parenting multiple children, how keeping to separate rooms will help make the family closer during the pandemic, why setting boundaries is an important part of providing unconditional love, how to greet you partner when they come home from a long work day, Shirin’s personal approach to supporting the Black Lives Matter movement via her website, how to post content during heavy times and why being authentic is always best, why Shirin only promotes products she’s tried and believes in, and how to shop for Father’s day during COVID. On today's episode, we hear the wisdom and words from Autumnn Gaines, who is the subject of an iconic and powerful photo taken during a recent peaceful protest following the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers. The photo is in black and white and strikes emotion among the mothers who've seen it. In this photo, Autumnn is nursing her 21-month-old son, with a caption that reads, “I'll feed him, but you have to let him grow”. Today Autumnn joins us on the Successful Breastfeeding Podcast to talk about this picture, that moment, centuries of repression, and her vision for this movement. If you're wondering, as a white listener, how you can be part of this movement, be an authentic ally, and truly be anti-racist, then pay attention. Solid Rock Church Sermons

Today on this Mother’s Day, we are going to look at a woman of faith. This woman in our Scripture doesn’t start out as a woman of faith, but she sure ends up a woman of faith….and that is what we need to start with this morning. Whoever you are, and whatever your faith may look like right now – to end up as a person of great faith, you start out as a person of somewhat less faith. Now that may seem obvious now that I say it, but I think, though it may seem obvious, in many ways we expect our faith – to just be there.

Be ready because we might ask you to be a guest on the show. Black motherhood has long been stigmatized in a negative light. When we think of black mothers' the images of "Big-Momma", "Teen Moms", and overbearing black women are often conjured in the minds of the masses. While these images are sometimes true, there is a much larger population of well-healed, well educated, well-traveled, stylish, adventurous, and downright cool black moms. Amerikan Therapy breaks the stereotypes to talk about building a tribe of cool and supportive black mothers, and what that means for our mental and emotional health. In this episode, we sit down with District Motherhued, an organization whose purpose is to bring black millennial moms together in order to build a supportive tribe of women. District Motherhued's mission is to engage black millennial moms with candor while empowering and equipping them with resources and support. District Motherhued provides a safe, judgment-free place to celebrate (or commiserate – depends on the day of the week) motherhood, and connect with other like-minded moms.Link: https://www.districtmotherhued.com/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/AMERIKANTHERAPY)

THIRD THING: Are you a YES PERSON??? Then you need to hear this. Amy talks with counselor + life coach, Kim Anderson, (@kim_anderson_life) about the power of saying no and creating boundaries in your life. It really is freeing. So listen to this and take notes.
