Ashley Morgan is here to share on filing for bankruptcy the right way. There has been a rising demand for bankruptcy services amid job losses and contracting challenges in the D.C. area, particularly among government contractors, and Ashley's VA based Law Practice has been doing a lot of work on these cases for both individuals and businesses. Ashley explains how bankruptcy can offer a fresh start, protect certain assets like homes or retirement accounts, and in some cases discharge tax and SBA debt. The conversation also covers the complexity of student loan discharge, the importance of asset protection and planning before filing, and misconceptions around credit damage post-bankruptcy. We discuss... Ashley Morgan, a bankruptcy attorney near D.C., discussed the rising demand for her services amid increasing job losses, particularly among government contractors. The economic slowdown in the D.C. area is creating a trickle-down effect, impacting local small businesses as stable government money dries up. Bankruptcy is a legal, court-supervised process to eliminate or restructure debt, offering individuals a fresh financial start. The U.S. system allows broader bankruptcy relief compared to many other countries, though outcomes depend heavily on income, assets, and debt type. Common types of bankruptcy include Chapter 7 (liquidation), Chapter 13 (repayment plan), Chapter 11 (business restructuring), and Chapter 12 (for farmers/fishermen). Chapter 11 is often used by large businesses to renegotiate leases, restructure payments, or close unprofitable locations. Small business owners can file Chapter 7 to shut down a business, but Chapter 11 can be cost-prohibitive for many. Personal credit isn't always impacted by business bankruptcy unless the owner personally guaranteed business debt. Bankruptcy doesn't automatically ruin credit—many filers see credit scores rebound shortly after filing. Asset protection during bankruptcy varies by state; homestead exemptions can protect homes, but limits differ widely. Timing and transparency are critical—transferring assets before filing may trigger fraudulent conveyance issues. Retirement accounts (e.g., 401(k)s, IRAs) are often protected and can be used strategically before filing. Student loans are generally not dischargeable, though rare exceptions exist through adversary proceedings under "undue hardship." SBA and certain tax debts may be dischargeable under specific conditions, like being sufficiently old and properly filed. Ashley emphasizes the importance of early education, legal consultation, and realistic expectations about outcomes when considering bankruptcy.

It can feel frustrating when you've tried really hard to follow God and it's not working anymore. In fact, it hurts. But God isn't trying to hurt us; He's trying to help us. Often these frustrations happen because we've unknowingly adopted unhealthy thought patterns and ways of living. Like Jacob wrestled with God in the Bible, we, too, have to wrestle with the lies and false beliefs that have taken root in our lives in order to experience healing and freedom. On this episode, author and Proverbs 31 Ministries staff member Ashley Morgan Jackson shares her story of wrestling with God. She helps us identify the lies we are believing and shows us how to turn to God when nothing else we've tried is working. This week on Real Talk with Rachael, I'm chatting with Morgan Jackson about her new book Tired of Trying: How to Hold On to God When You're Frustrated, Fed Up, and Feeling Forgotten. Ashley Morgan Jackson is an author, speaker, and social media expert. She works full-time for Proverbs 31 Ministries and has ministered to her own online community for over ten years. She is passionate about women learning to let go of the lie that they have to perform for God's love and instead realizing that they can receive His love, just as they are. Ashley is a wife of fourteen years to her wonderful husband, Daniel, and a mom to two growing boys. The family lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. If you asked Ashley what her favorite thing to do is, she would say it's laughing till it hurts! Key Points from Our Conversation: Ashley wrote Tired of Trying after a hard transition period where she struggled with identity loss. Once she surrendered, God broke away the things that she identified herself with and told her who she was in Him, regardless of anything she accomplished. But nothing changed until she was honest and surrendered to the Lord. When we go through hard things, we're marked by them. But making it through gives us the authority to encourage others on the other side of our struggles, so it's important to share our stories with others, whether it's in a public forum or one on one. Sometimes was have to stand with our good God in our discomfort and grieve the things He's chosen not to do; He knows what's best for us even if it hurts for a while. Choosing to love and trust God does not take away the hard parts of life. But He will bring peace and purpose. If there's a lie you continue to believe about yourself, let the Lord reveal the patterns so that He can address the root of what's hurting us. If you're in the thick of a hard season, don't fake it. If it hurts, acknowledge that and grieve it with the Lord. Your honesty is safe with God. Let's Get Real Practical: What am I trying to prove? What am I afraid to lose? Is God telling you to lay down the trying because you're striving in your strength? Or are you burnt out and need a fresh perspective? We can pray about anything and everything as often as possible. If God's Word tells us we can ask Him for anything, how do we cultivate lives where we pray bold prayers? What does that look like? Sometimes the signs of a growing season are not exactly what we're looking for. When we think growth we don't always think discomfort, but the term "growing pains" exists for a reason. In this episode we talk through disappointment, feeling stuck, frustration, loneliness, and letting go. Whew! That's quite a list. It's also an opportunity to check your circumstances and ask if there is an opportunity for growth. As we talk about rising up to meet life's challenges, this episode names the what and the how of that process which in the end can result in personal growth. And isn't that what we want? To grow to be the best version of ourselves that God is calling forward when we meet these uncomfortable circumstances. It is our time to rise. Every day, in every part of the world, women are being harassed and abused by men while out running. A recent survey commissioned by Adidas and taking in 9,000 people from the US, Mexico, UK, France, Germany, United Arab Emirates, China, Japan and South Korea, found nine in 10 women are concerned about their safety while running. The list of issues women can face ranges from cat calling, body shaming, wolf whistles, verbal abuse and heckling to indecent exposure, sexual attention and physical contact. Worse, women all to often face the daunting prospect of being approached or followed by potential predators, or of being attacked while out running. In the very worst cases, women have been raped or killed for committing the 'crime' of exercising near a man. High profile cases such as those of Ashling Murphy in Ireland and Eliza Fletcher in America, both tragically murdered while out running, have garnered media attention - but is the world any closer to solving the issue, and who's job is that anyway? This roundtable discussion features three women runners who have all experienced abuse and harassment while out running: Michele Heller: From Illinois in the US, Michele is a keen runner who has completed marathons included Boston, Chicago, New York and London. As a mother with a young child, Michele often runs very early in the morning, when it is dark, in order to be ready for the day when the rest of her family wake up. Dr Ashley Morgan: From Cardiff in Wales and AKA The Doc from The Running Punks, Dr Ashley Morgan has been running for 35 years - and has experienced male harassment throughout that time. The Doc is a regular commentator on women's safety and the patriarchy, and one of those behind the Twitter hashtag #changethediscourse, which attempts to get people to think and talk about the issue differently. Angie Skinner: From Chattanooga in Tennessee, America, Angie started running in 2014 for mental health benefits. She is originally from Memphis, close to where Eliza Fletcher was killed, and regularly receives harassment while out running - to the point where she will arm herself with pepper spray and a go guarded ring (a plastic serrated-edge self-defence weapon) for her own safety. In this wide-ranging discussion, we spoke about everything from their own experiences of harassment and abuse, victim blaming, the potential for women runners to arm themselves for protection, whether it is safe to run in the dark, how men should behave towards female runners and what men can do to be an ally. This podcast is aimed at provoking discussion, so we would love to hear your experiences and comments. ---------------------------------- We'll also be producing a series of articles based on this podcast on our Substack newsletter - for just £5/month you'll be able to get full access to all our articles: https://runningtales.substack.com Free subscription offers are also available. The quirky Masonic Gala Sisters in their first appearance on the show talked about their experiences being female masons. Now they are back to discussing recent developments in the Marilyn Manson case and why one of his main accusers, Ashley Morgan Smithline, has RECANTED her allegations.
Dr Ashley Morgan has been running for more than 30 years, but until she found the Running Punks she kept the sport as very much a solitary pursuit. These days she's very much part of that inclusive community, leading runs on Sunday mornings and taking part in an active online community that talks about everything from posh bog selfies to record reviews (with some running thrown in on occasion!). Dr Ashley is also a strong voice for women's equality, insisting there is nothing intrinsic for women to fear from running in the dark - and that it is men who need to take responsibility for their actions. Running Tales started our interview by asking her what exactly Running Punks is, and how she became involved with the group...

In this video we're going over the latest filings in the case filed by Esme Bianco against Brian Warner p/k/a Marilyn Manson. In that case, Manson's attorneys have been trying to depose Ashley Morgan Smithline. Ms. Smithline is a plaintiff in her own case against Manson that is separate from Ms. Bianco's case, although they have alleged similar claims. Ms. Smithline's attorney, Jay Ellwanger, also has been representing Ms. Bianco in her case. Last week, Mr. Ellwanger filed in Ms. Smithline's case a motion to withdraw from representing Ms. Smithline, saying she had made representing her "unreasonably difficult." Then, in Ms. Bianco's case, he filed a request to modify the subpoena for Ms. Smithline's deposition, arguing that she needed time to get new counsel since he had just let her know he would no longer represented. NOW, Manson's attorney has filed an opposition to the Bianco motion, saying that Mr. Ellwanger didn't just quit the representation--Ms. Smithline fired him in April 2022, and produces receipts showing he's apparently been lying to the court, opposing counsel, and even Ms. Smithline. This. Is. NUTS. Continuing discussion on the topic on Eric Hunley's channel, Laid Back News: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nfgEAv2Lpc FOR CONTEXT: Over the years since 2016, Evan Rachel Wood began speaking publicly about domestic violence, saying she had been abused by two unnamed men. On February 21, 2021, Wood named Brian Warner p/k/a Marilyn Manson as one of her abusers, alleging that he abused her physically and emotionally during their romantic relationship which lasted between 2006 and 2010. On the same day, a handful of other women also made statements claiming to be victims of Warner's abuse. His alleged victims include Ashley Morgan Smithline, Esme Bianco, and Ashley Walters. In June 2022, Ashley Morgan Smithline filed a lawsuit against Marilyn Manson alleging all kinds of abuses against her during a romantic relationship. In March 2022, Marilyn Manson, filed a lawsuit against Evan Rachel Wood and Ashley Gore aka Illma Gore. In the lawsuit, he alleges four causes of action: defamation per se, intentional infliction of emotional distress, violation of computer hacking laws, and violation of laws barring impersonation over the internet. In this episode Sean sits down with Ashley Morgan of Liles Parker to discuss the Administrative Appeals Process within CMS and the recoupments after level II and recent rulings by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and other courts. Sean and Ashley provide insights for who's reviewing your claim(s), what the program integrity manual sets as Medical Record (MR) Scope of Work (SOW) for claims reviewers and how to ensure due process. The episode also focuses on what leads to a provider's revocation of billing privileges with CMS and the steps that can be taken to reverse the revocation. Revocations are happening at a frenzied pace and before it happens to you, get the facts! This is such a critical discussion for those who are responsible for filing appeals at a medical practice, hospital, health system, suppliers, or other types of medical organization.
On today's episode, returning guest Ashley Morgan (she/her) and I discuss the phenomenon of Imposter Syndrome, loosely meaning doubting one's own abilities and feeling like a fraud; leading us to converse about Jodi-Ann Burey and Ruchika Tulshyan's articles in the Harvard Business Review, “Stoping Telling Woman that they have Imposter Syndrome” and “End Imposter Syndrome in your Workplace.” Our conversation dives into "performative culture," particularly around diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, the urgency to listen and believe Black and Brown folks, and finally how Ashley is able to support her female-based clients with reclaiming their power. I want to thank Ashley for being a returning guest on Leading With Your Gut, the podcast.
