Martina Anderson is a lifelong Irish republican, former political prisoner, and veteran political leader from Derry's Bogside. Arrested in the early years of the Troubles, she spent nearly fourteen years in prison, including a decade in England, before her release under the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.Following her release, Anderson unexpectedly found herself in public office, serving as a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly, a Junior Minister in the Executive Office, and later as a Member of the European Parliament for Sinn Féin, where she represented Northern Ireland for more than seven years. She was also among the first Sinn Féin representatives appointed to the Policing Board, helping oversee reforms aimed at increasing accountability and human rights protections in post-conflict policing.Credits:Photos and text, John NoltnerField production, summer interns Kate West, Sawyer Garrison, and Kaitlin ImaiAudio Engineering, Razik SaifullahThanks for listening to A Peace of My Mind's podcast. Free Speech: May the President summarily rescind the security clearance of a lawyer who has represented his political opponents? - Argued: Thu, 14 May 2026 17:34:52 EDT
Oral Arguments for the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit
Mark Zaid v. Executive Office of the President
Episode 51: Perkins Coie LLP v. Department of JusticePerkins Coie LLP v. Department of Justice, argued before Chief Judge Sri Srinivasan, Judge Cornelia T.L. Pillard, and Judge Neomi Rao of the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on May 14, 2026. Argued by Paul Clement (on behalf of the Law Firm Appellees), Abbe Lowell (on behalf of Appellee Mark Zaid), and Abhishek Kambli (on behalf of the federal government).Case Summary, From the Brief of Appellee Perkins Coie LLP: One year ago, the President did something no other president had done before: issue an executive order declaring a law firm whose clients and representations he dislikes “dishonest and dangerous” and deploying the levers of federal power to try to put the firm out of business. That was a perilous moment for appellee Perkins, the legal profession, and the rule of law. Nine law firms, cowed by the threat of firm-ending sanctions, “settled” with the President. But Perkins, followed by Jenner, WilmerHale, and Susman, sued to defend themselves and their clients. Four different district judges recognized the President's executive orders for what they are: shocking abuses of power that trample the constitutional rights of the law firms and their clients. This Court should recognize the same. The government cannot “use the power of the State to punish or suppress disfavored expression.” Yet here, the President did not hide his intent to punish Perkins for its expression and that of its clients. He openly declared that he targeted Perkins because it represented his “failed” opponent in the 2016 election, challenged election laws alongside so-called “activist donors,” and brought purportedly “partisan lawsuits,” including “against the Trump Administration.” The President designed the Order to do more than just damage Perkins; he intended to intimidate the bar into submission.Case Summary, From the Brief of Appellee Mark Zaid: The government cannot “use the power of the State to punish or suppress disfavored expression.” Nat'l Rifle Ass'n of Am. v. Vullo. This case concerns an unconstitutional policy enacted to do just that. Shortly after taking office, the President issued a memorandum (the Presidential Memorandum) targeting the security clearances of a sprawling group of his perceived enemies, their lawyers, and their family members. As interpreted by the relevant agencies, the Presidential Memorandum constituted a directive to disregard then-existing procedures and institute a blanket revocation of the security clearances of those it named. Appellant Mark S. Zaid, an attorney who has represented government whistleblowers, is among those whose clearances were revoked...Rather than contesting whether they retaliated against Mr. Zaid or deprived him of the processes to which he was entitled under the applicable regulations, Appellants double down on the extraordinary position that their unlawful actions are entirely insulated from judicial review.Statement of Issues, From the Brief of Appellee Perkins Coie LLP: Whether the district court properly granted summary judgment Whether Perkins is entitled to summary judgment on the additional ground (raised but not reached below) that Sections 1, 3, and 5 violate the separation of powers.Statement of Issues, From the Brief of Appellee Mark Zaid: Whether a court may review a policy providing for the revocation of a group of security clearances without process or individualized review.Whether the district court abused its discretion in granting a preliminary injunction.Resources: Brief of Appellee Perkins Coie LLPBrief for the Government AppellantsCourtListener Docket (includes all filings for the law firms' cases)Brief of Appellee Mark ZaidBrief for the Government AppellantsCourtListener Docket (includes all filings in the appeal of Mark Zaid v. The Bio-Digital Workspace: Orchestrating Human Rhythms and Cognitive AI with Jairek RobbinsIn a recent episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur Podcast, host Josh Elledge sat down with Jairek Robbins, the Founder and CEO of Executive Office AI, to explore how high-performing companies are dismantling outdated industrial-era workflows. Jairek, a renowned neuropsychologist, biohacking strategist, and business optimization expert, details how the typical 9-to-5 corporate grind works directly against human evolutionary biology. This conversation serves as a data-driven blueprint for mid-market founders and executive teams looking to scale operational efficiency by synchronizing corporate workflows with biological energy cycles and deploying high-security, multi-model artificial intelligence frameworks.Biological Governance: Aligning Multi-Model AI Infrastructure with Human Energy CyclesThe primary friction point dragging down corporate productivity is the structural reliance on rigid, antiquated schedules that fail to align with natural human biology. Jairek Robbins points out that while the modern 40-hour workweek was engineered merely a century ago for industrial manufacturing lines, human physiology has evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to operate in fluid, cyclical waves of energy, focus, and rest. This biological mismatch is particularly pronounced for female entrepreneurs and team members; despite making up nearly half of the global workforce, standard corporate frameworks completely overlook monthly hormonal fluctuations that shift baseline cognitive energy by factors of 10x to 25x. True operational scale is achieved when an enterprise ditches flat, linear scheduling and leverages data-driven management models—such as a compressed 3.5-day workweek—to structure deep-focus sprints, project deadlines, and recovery blocks around the actual biological capacity of the team.[Image showcasing a multi-model AI infrastructure diagram illustrating redundancy, human-in-the-loop oversight, and core workflow optimization pipelines]To liberate human talent from the administrative debt that bogs down strategic thinking, businesses must democratize C-suite level support through a highly resilient, multi-model AI system architecture. Rather than relying on a single, vulnerable software provider that exposes the enterprise to systemic data outages and security liabilities, corporate tech stacks must integrate a diversified portfolio of specialized language models. In this "brain and hands" configuration, specific tasks are routed to the models that possess the highest relative technical margin—deploying Claude for deep reasoning, OpenAI for complex logic, and Perplexity for targeted research. These discrete digital agents automate high-volume operations like multi-system client relationship management, financial data reporting, and autonomous media pitching, allowing small and medium-sized businesses to secure institutional-grade executive support at a fraction of enterprise overhead. However, implementing an advanced AI infrastructure requires strict business-first oversight to prevent organizations from falling into the trap of over-engineering impressive but unprofitable technology. When technical departments or external agencies lead automation initiatives without tight strategic context, companies end up accumulating expensive software tools that serve as flashy toys rather than solving genuine operational bottlenecks. Real-world capital allocation demands that every automation stack be anchored to measurable milestones, such as reducing a 20-hour manual accounting process down to a 15-minute daily summary or driving exponential returns on investment for private equity firms. By establishing definitive "human-in-the-loop" approval guardrails and absolute audit logging, founders protect their proprietary data assets while building an autonomous, self-sustaining corporate engine that systematically scales enterprise value.About Jairek RobbinsJairek Robbins is the Founder and CEO of Executive Office AI, a best-selling author, a TEDx speaker, and a premier performance coach trusted by global corporate executives. Combining an extensive background in neuropsychology and behavioral biology with cutting-edge business optimization systems, Jairek specializes in helping leaders maximize their professional output while protecting their personal health and longevity. He is a dedicated strategic consultant focused on bridging the gap between human biological rhythms and automated technological scale.About Executive Office AIExecutive Office AI is an elite corporate automation advisory firm that designs custom artificial intelligence infrastructure and virtual agent stacks for high-growth businesses. The company specializes in identifying operational bottlenecks across sales, client relations, and complex data analysis, replacing slow manual labor with highly secure, multi-model software pipelines. Through structured implementation playbooks and rigorous return-on-investment mapping, Executive Office AI empowers small and medium-sized enterprises to deploy enterprise-grade operational leverage.Links Mentioned in This EpisodeExecutive Office AI Official Website: executiveoffice.aiJairek Robbins on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/jairekrobbinsKey Episode HighlightsThe Biological Work Audit: Ditching industrial-era 9-to-5 paradigms to structure high-yield corporate deadlines around natural human energy cycles.Hormonal Workflow Optimization: Engineering inclusive scheduling frameworks that recognize and adapt to the biological shifts affecting female leadership and labor. The Multi-Model AI Full Stack: Constructing resilient software pipelines that leverage the unique strengths of various top-tier AI models simultaneously.Preventing the Tech-First Trap: Maintaining strict business-centric oversight on all automation projects to ensure measurable time savings and bottom-line profit margins.Autonomous Public Relations Systems: Utilizing secure digital agents to pitch, book, and manage high-authority media appearances in background workflows.ConclusionThe conversation with Jairek Robbins underscores that true enterprise optimization requires a balanced synthesis of evolutionary human biology and advanced digital automation. By auditing operational bottlenecks, implementing redundant multi-model AI architectures, and fiercely defending human-centric strategic capacity, corporate leaders can build resilient, high-valuation business assets that thrive under any market conditions.More from The Thoughtful Entrepreneur
After threatening to destroy the "whole civilization" of Iran on April 7, 2026, Donald Trump backtracked on grounds that a temporary ceasefire had been reached thanks to negotiations held by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. On the same day, we learned that the agreement included a "10-point proposal from Iran," which Trump said was a "workable basis on which to negotiate" further peace. Several news outlets reported on these ten points and Trump even posted them in an official statement of Iran on TruthSocial, including the "15-point" proposal from the United States. According to Shehbaz Sharif, "I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere." On April 8th, 2026, the Jerusalem post reported, "Iran violates ceasefire agreement hours after Trump announced truce." The proof Fox News showed of this involved small lights in the sky claimed to be Iranian missiles breaking the agreement as they fell on Tel Aviv. No context or details were provided. The Times of Israel then reported as quickly as it had been announced "open" that the Straight of Hormuz was being closed "over Israeli strikes in Lebanon." According to the man negotiating the temporary truce, this would constitute a violation of the agreement.Perhaps to save face and once more give more rope to the Israelis to hang the world, the United States claimed, as per CNN, the "two-week ceasefire" was strictly "between the US and Iran." If that was the case then Iran bombing Israel should not violate the agreement. However, Israel's nonstop bombardment of Lebanon, and reportedly Iran too, led to Hormuz being shut down once more and claims the Iranians violated the ceasefire because the agreement was "contingent on the 'COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFFE OPENING' of the critical waterway." This is plainly an inversion of the order of events. Vice President Vance also told the press that the agreement did not include Lebanon, which is obviously a contradiction of what Shehbaz Sharif had explicitly stated. As the ten-points from Iran circulated the Internet, and the public noticed they seemed to imply that the US had lost a war, the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed those points were "fundamentally unserious" and "literally thrown in the garbage," a statement obviously contradicting the President's official statement, which was published on official Executive Office paper. Benjamin Netanyahu told the press that his war objectives had not been met and: "we are ready to resume the fighting at any moment. Our finger is on the trigger." So what was happening here? It appears that as with the fake peace deal in Gaza, broken by the Israelis instantly and blamed on the Arabs and Muslims, the same theater was being offered for public consumption in Iran. And from the shadows again was Jared Kushner acting as a central negotiator. Whatever may be said of Kushner and what he sold to the White House at the behest of Israel and the Mossad, it seems strange he could obtain any details when, according to various confirmed reports, including from the Wall Street Journal on April 7, 2026, "Iran Cuts Off Direct Diplomacy With U.S." The article reported that "it is unclear if direct talks will resume before the deadline," which of course refers to the threat about Iran's "whole civilization" and the Straight of Hormuz being opened - though it was never really closed.Meanwhile, Israel kept dropping bombs, targeting civilians, and providing false information to the White House that got Americans killed. Israel continued to undermine the wealth, perception, reputation, and economy of the United States. Clearly, Israel has no regard whatsoever for its allies or even its own people. Tens of thousands of Jews reside in Iran and call it home, as do large numbers of Christians. Yet no distinction was made by the United States and Israel in their threats to exterminate the Persian civilization, itself not merely a war crime but outright genocide and totally psychotic. The IDF even admitted to striking the Rafi Niya Synagogue, located near Palestine Square in central Tehran. Although the word "damaged" was used to soften the public perception of the destruction, the structure itself was rubble. Siamak Moreh-Sedgh, former Jewish-Iranian MP, summarized our point: "It shows that the Zionistic regime has not any belief in the Jewish principles. And they are not following Moses. They follow Satan and they follow their benefits."*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. If you want an ad-free experience, you can subscribe below underneath the show description.
Imagine a blueprint so ambitious it aims to reshape America's government from the ground up. That's Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation's 900-page manifesto published in April 2023, designed as a playbook for a conservative president to consolidate power and dismantle what its authors call the "administrative state." According to the Heritage Foundation's own document, the project's core goals are to "restore the family as the centerpiece of American life," "dismantle the administrative state," and "defend our nation's sovereignty," as outlined in their Mandate for Leadership.Fast forward to February 2026, and the Trump administration has already initiated or completed 53 percent of its domestic policy agenda—283 out of 532 recommended actions across 20 federal agencies, reports the Center for Progressive Reform's Project 2025 Executive Action Tracker. Key architects like Russell Vought, now OMB director and a Project 2025 co-author, are driving this forward, enforcing policies from the Executive Office of the President.Concrete changes paint a vivid picture. The plan calls for abolishing the Department of Education to boost school choice, eliminating Head Start—which serves over 833,000 children in poverty—and ending the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, per the WFSE Project 2025 Summary. On labor, it proposes scrapping card-check union elections, repealing Davis-Bacon wage rules, and cutting overtime protections for 4.3 million workers, as detailed in Democracy Forward's People's Guide. Immigration reforms advocate mass deportations, ending birthright citizenship, and using the military for border arrests, according to the ACLU's analysis. Health proposals include privatizing Medicare via vouchers and repealing the $35 insulin cap.Experts warn of sweeping implications. The NAACP Legal Defense Fund tracks how these moves curtail civil rights, from challenging diversity programs in lawsuits like National Urban League v. Trump to expanding the federal death penalty. Critics, including the Center for Progressive Reform, see an authoritarian tilt, with states like Texas already testing similar policies.Yet proponents argue it's about efficiency and family values. This ambition connects daily life—childcare access, wages, borders—to a vision of streamlined governance.Looking ahead, trackers like Project 2025 Observer predict more milestones, with ongoing litigation and the 2026 midterms as pivotal decision points. Thanks for tuning in, listeners—come back next week for more. Some great Deals https://amzn.to/49SJ3QsFor more check out http://www.quietplease.aiThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

THIS WEEK'S NASIR HAMEED CORNER…MORE VINTAGE BANTER BETWEEN THE HOST AND NASIR…THIS WEEKS SPECIAL GUEST: JOHN WATSON!!! John Watson's Formula 1 debut at 1973 British Grand Prix Watson's first F1 car was a March-Cosworth 721 which he drove on the non-championship Victory Race at Brands Hatch. A year after, he was ready to move up to F1, making his debut in the British GP where he drove a Brabham BT37, and after that competed in the US Grand Prix with Brabham BT42. He retired in both races. In 1974, he drove for Goldie Hexagon Racing team with a Brabham BT42 and BT44, scoring his first world championship point with a sixth place at Monaco. He scored a total of six points that season. He failed to score points in the following year when he drove for Team Surtees before switching to the American Penske squad. First Formula 1 victory with Penske at Austrian Grand Prix He secured his first podium with the third place at the 1976 French Grand Prix. Later that season came his first victory, driving for Penske in the Austrian Grand Prix. After the race, he shaved off his beard, the result of a bet with the team owner Roger Penske. In 1977 and 1978, Watson raced with Brabham-Alfa Romeo machinery, in the first year for Martini Racing and in the second for Parmalat Racing Team. In 1977, problems with the car, accidents and a disqualification resulted with Watson racing the full distance in only five of the 17 races. In 1978, he reached three podiums and notched up 25 points to earn sixth place in the championship. In McLaren Team since 1979 For the season of 1979, Watson moved to Marlboro McLaren Team. The next two seasons were without any victories, and finally in 1981, at British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Watson secured his second F1 win. It was a maiden victory for the trend-setting carbon fibre composite monocoque McLaren MP4 car, designed by John Barnard, and managed by the team's new boss, Ron Dennis. New monococque saved his life. Later in the season, the strength of the carbon fibre monocoque was demonstrated when John had a fiery crash at Monza during the Italian Grand Prix. He started seventh on the grid and raced for 19 laps. Watson lost control of the car, coming out of the high speed Lesmo bends and crashed backwards into the barriers. The car was halved but Watson walked away unhurt. Similar accidents had previously proven fatal, but Watson was uninjured, and that lucky break proved the strength of the new carbon fiber construction. Third place in the 1982 F1 championship His most successful year was 1982, when he finished third in the drivers' championship, winning two Grands Prix (Zolder and Detroit). Most impressive was his victory at the first ever Detroit Grand, on a tight and twisty track that was difficult to pass through. Watson worked his way from the 17th starting position on the grid and charged through the field scoring a victory. Master-class victory at Long Beach Watson made a similar master-class victory the following year at the final Formula One race in Long Beach (USA). On the street circuit, he started from 22nd on the grid and succeeded to win the race. Watson's final victory also included a fight for the position with his teammate Niki Lauda, who had started the race at the 23rd spot, but Watson ultimately finished 27 seconds ahead of his famous teammate. ASTON MARTIN ARAMCO COMPLETE BARCELONA SHAKEDOWN Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain, 30 January 2026: The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team continued its Shakedown programme at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya today, with Fernando Alonso getting behind the wheel of the AMR26 for the first time. Fernando headed out on track at approximately 09:30 and completed running across both the morning and afternoon sessions, with the team focused on mileage accumulation and initial reliability checks. He completed a total of 61 laps across the day. Across the two days of running in Barcelona, both Fernando and Lance Stroll have now driven the AMR26, allowing the team to build an early baseline understanding of the car. The team now concludes its Shakedown programme and looks ahead to the season launch and livery reveal on 9 February, followed by pre-season testing in Bahrain in a couple of weeks, before final preparations begin for the opening round of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship in Melbourne on 6-8 March. Fernando Alonso: “It's always a special moment driving a new car for the first time, especially at the start of a new regulation cycle. Over the years I've experienced many changes in Formula One, and you quickly get a sense of the direction the car is taking. We completed a solid programme with strong mileage, which is the main priority at this stage. It's still very early days and we have a lot of work still to do before we head to Melbourne in March.” Lance Stroll: “It was a huge effort across the team to get the car ready, so I really appreciate all the hard work that went into getting us on track. My running was limited, but it was good to get behind the wheel for the first time and start to get a feel for the car. I look forward to getting to Bahrain and driving the car again.” Mike Krack, Chief Trackside Officer, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team: “Getting a new car on track for the first time is always an important step. Bringing the AMR26 to life here in Barcelona has taken a big effort, both back at the AMR Technology Campus and from the team working trackside. I want to thank everyone across the team for the work that's gone into getting us to this point. Having both drivers in the car and providing valuable feedback and data is an important part of our pre-season preparations. It's also been helpful as we continue building our working relationships with new works partners, including Honda. We'll now take what we've learned and keep developing the AMR26 ahead of Bahrain testing.” Presidential Announcement of Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C. INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, Jan. 30, 2026) – An executive order signed today by President Donald J. Trump directed the White House Task Force on Celebrating America's 250th Birthday to designate a race route through Washington, D.C. and the National Mall for the purposes of conducting an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on August 21-23, 2026. The event will recognize the historic milestone of America's independence in addition to celebrating the unparalleled tradition and legacy of America's motorsports industry. “INDYCAR racing is a source of pride and entertainment for our Nation, which is why I am pleased to announce the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C.” said President Trump via the executive order. “This race, the first motor race ever to be held in our Nation's capital near the National Mall, will showcase the majesty of our great city as drivers navigate a track around our iconic national monuments in celebration of America's 250th birthday.” The full executive order can be viewed here: Executive Orders – The White House. The event will be administered by INDYCAR in coordination with the taskforce, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of the Interior, and Washington, D.C.'s Executive Office of the Mayor. “For over one hundred years, American INDYCAR racing has set the pace for motorsports,” President Trump continued. “With speeds topping over 200 miles per hour, the cars and drivers inspire awe and respect in all who watch this quintessentially American sport.” For more than a century, INDYCAR has hosted the iconic Indianapolis 500 Mile Race on the Sunday before Memorial Day, annually the world's largest single-day spectator sporting event. “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” serves as a singular and powerful tribute to the United States Armed Forces, with a crowd of more than 350,000 people gathering to show respect and gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our military heroes. Legends of INDYCAR span multiple generations from racing greats like Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt to the stars of today like four-time SERIES champion Alex Palou and two-time Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden. “President Trump has bestowed an incredible distinction upon our sport, and we're grateful for his trust and support as INDYCAR prepares to honor our country with a tremendous racing spectacle,” said Roger Penske. “This will be a truly memorable event that celebrates our country's independence and the legacy of patriotism, innovation, and excellence that powers motorsports across America.” “Freedom doesn't ring, it revs! INDYCAR is about competition and pushing limits — the same things that have always defined America,” said United States Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy. “There's no better place to celebrate our 250th anniversary than bringing that energy to the nation's capital and showcasing Washington, D.C. to the world.” "The Department of the Interior is proud to help bring the historic Freedom 250 Grand Prix to Washington, D.C. to showcase our treasured public spaces through a monumental event that captures the America spirit in the heart of our nation's capital," said Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum. "Like the sport of racing itself, this administration, under President Donald J. Trump, is moving at record speed to make life better for all Americans and ensure that the United States marks its 250th birthday with the celebration that it deserves. Start your engines, America!" “Soon-to-be the home of every major sports franchise, Washington, D.C. is the undisputed Sports Capital,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “But we don't stop there and work to attract major events. That's why I am thrilled to welcome the Freedom 250 to the Nation's Capital this August. The race weekend will rev up the economic engine of D.C. by filling our hotels and restaurants and by showing visitors, residents and the sports world that there's no better city, people and backdrop for major sports events. I invite all sports fans to come enjoy the Freedom 250 and all that Washington, D.C. has to offer.”

Nonprofits Are Messy: Lessons in Leadership | Fundraising | Board Development | Communications
2025 felt like a year when everything became more and harder. More crises. More fear. More civic strain. More communities under pressure. And yet – more leadership, too. In this episode, Glennda connects with Darlene Nipper, President of the Rockwood Leadership Institute, for a grounded look at what leadership truly looked like in 2025. Darlene shares what she and her team witnessed across the country: communities organizing, mutual-aid volunteers pivoting to meet urgent needs, families creating rapid-response communication networks, and leaders of small organizations adapting and strategizing for the future. This wasn't leadership from the podium. It was leadership from the sidewalk, school hallway, boardroom, and living room. Together, Glennda and Darlene talk about what broke, what held, and what grew stronger this year: How democracy became a shared responsibility, not just a political concept What “leading from the inside out” looks like in high-pressure environments Why the long view and the short view have to coexist What nonprofit leaders need to prioritize amid uncertainty And through it all, one truth kept surfacing: leadership is no longer reserved for the chosen few. It is happening everywhere, often in people who never expected to step into the role. Whether you lead a nonprofit, neighborhood group, faith community, or simply your own family, this episode offers clarity on what your leadership means right now, and what it needs next. TUNE IN TO LEARN: How 2025 redefined who counts as a leader: This year showed us that leadership doesn't just come from titles or org charts – neighbors, parents, volunteers, and everyday people stepped in where systems fell short. Why democracy became a litmus test for leadership this year: In 2025, leaders weren't just asked to run programs. They were asked to choose whether to protect democratic values or remain silent as they eroded. How easy on-ramps – rather than professional gatekeeping – brought more people into meaningful action: Grassroots movements gained momentum because people could simply show up, proving accessibility is what fuels community power. What nonprofit leaders need to prioritize amid uncertainty: From pivoting quickly to listening deeply, this episode breaks down the practices that helped organizations stay grounded and effective. How leaders are thinking ahead while addressing immediate crises: Even while navigating fires, funding losses, and political turmoil, visionary leaders shifted into long-view strategy – imagining a future they may never personally see. KEY QUOTES: “I think this notion of leadership is this far-off behavior or category of people that's not us, totally is a thing, you know, and it's like – no, actually it is all of us.” - Darlene Nipper “I do think this moment is calling a lot of people into leadership in ways that are really motivating.” - Glennda Testone “So money should not be a problem. You know? That should not even be an issue. If we believe in the work, we need to give it away is such a level that people are just not even leaders are not even thinking about where the money is going to come from.” - Darlene Nipper “Listen to your constituents, your community, your people, and come out with what you know, because your role, your place, your space is very unique to you and the work that you're doing.” - Darlene Nipper ABOUT GUEST: With over 25 years of leadership and advocacy experience, Darlene Nipper joined Rockwood as a trainer in 2012 and now serves as CEO. Darlene's knowledge of the challenges facing leaders and the practices required for effective leadership is informed by her own background at a range of organizations. She has held key leadership roles in nonprofit and social justice organizations, as well as city government and foundations. Darlene previously served as the executive director of the BET Foundation, and as the chief operating officer at National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), during which time she founded NAMI's Multicultural and International Policy Center. She is the former director of LGBT Affairs in the Executive Office of the Mayor of D.C., and the 2024-25 Visiting Senior Fellow for Movement Infrastructure and Explorations at the Freedom Together Foundation. A native Washingtonian, Darlene is an ordained interfaith minister, and practices mindfulness meditation, deep presence, and living joy. In this episode of Behind The Numbers With Dave Bookbinder, I'm joined by Kristof Gleich, President and Chief Investment Officer at Harbor Capital Advisors, for a deep dive into the human capital factor and its impact on business value and investment performance. Kristof explains how Harbor's partnership with Irrational Capital led to the development of the HAPI ETFs and walks through the seven subfactors that make up the human capital score: organizational effectiveness, innovation, direct management, alignment, engagement, emotional connection, and extrinsic rewards. We get into the data behind the factor, including the use of large-scale employee sentiment surveys and proprietary analytics, the index construction process that identifies the top 150 companies, and the annual reconstitution methodology. Kristof also shares performance insights – from Morningstar recognition to how HAPI has compared with the S&P 500. We also talk about why this factor has the potential to generate real alpha and how investors, private equity firms, and valuation professionals are beginning to incorporate human capital metrics into underwriting and deal analysis. If you're interested in how people truly drive enterprise value, how human capital data can shape portfolios, and what this means for investors, advisors, and dealmakers, this episode offers practical, data-driven insights you can use. Backlogs in the nation's immigration courts have reached record levels in recent years, with nearly 4 million removals cases pending—adding new pressures to longstanding challenges that have overwhelmed the courts. With it now taking an average of four years for an asylum applicant to get a hearing, the delays are undermining the goals of both the U.S. asylum and immigration enforcement systems. This discussion draws on an MPI policy brief that examines how the immigration courts have reached a point of crisis, with panelists focusing on how the courts have been shaped by the policies of the current administration and its predecessor. The conversation also touched upon the administrative and legislative reforms that are urgently needed to transform the system, key among them increased funding for the courts, commensurate with the historic spending on immigration enforcement included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Now, a study of IRS data by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation found that California is losing a taxpayer roughly every minute, as states like Florida, Texas, and North Carolina attract new residents due to lower taxes and higher standards of living. In comparison, Florida gains a new taxpayer every 2 minutes and 9 seconds while Texas gains one every 2 minutes and 53 seconds. The result has been a bonanza for Florida, which is now collecting $4 billion more per year for its budget. The states losing taxpayers at the fastest rate are California, New York, and Illinois. Democrats AND Republicans agreed. The bill introduced tight immigration quotas, new visa requirements, the Border Patrol, and outright banned immigrants from certain countries that we viewed as incompatible with our culture. It dramatically reduced the number of people coming into the country, and provided an opportunity for the recent “great wave” of immigrants to assimilate. By the 1940’s and 1950’s, American society thrived with a boomimg economy, rising middle class, common culture and limited immigration. The Act was in place until 1965. Since then, we have experienced decades of *historic* immigration, both legal and illegal. Today we have higher levels of foreign-born than the early 1900's by both raw number and percentage of population. This mass immigration has also included vastly different cultures than the mostly Europeans we accepted then. It's obvious that we once again need to make a national policy shift, and it should be bipartisan… It's time for another Immigration Act. https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1992591518314668440?s=20 https://twitter.com/EndWokeness/status/1992794921569517639?s=20 DOGE https://twitter.com/ElectionWiz/status/1992754205308944525?s=20 https://twitter.com/drawandstrike/status/1992765443052814719?s=20 based on recent reports, it’s true that DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) has been integrated into many federal agencies through embedded teams, staff, or operational units—often described as “DOGE offices” or equivalents—that continue its mission of efficiency, waste reduction, and oversight. This decentralization followed the quiet disbandment of DOGE as a standalone entity around November 2025, ahead of its original July 2026 expiration. While sources vary on the exact scope (e.g., “all” vs. “many” agencies), the embedding is widespread and includes: Office of Personnel Management (OPM): Acts as a central hub for DOGE’s workforce reduction directives, with embedded staff handling HR overhauls and agency-wide efficiency mandates. Office of Management and Budget (OMB): Institutionalizes DOGE’s tools for deregulation, AI audits, and budget cuts, with teams funded through agency IT modernization funds. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS): Former DOGE staffers in roles like chief technology officer, focusing on fraud detection and program streamlining. State Department: Embedded personnel overseeing foreign assistance and efficiency reforms. Department of Education: DOGE teams with access to federal student loan data and other systems for waste elimination. Treasury Department (including IRS): Staff integrated for system access and financial oversight. Other agencies: Reports mention integration in the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Naval Research, General Services Administration (GSA), Social Security Administration, and dozens more, with over 100 former DOGE staffers reassigned across the government. Some agencies were directed to establish minimum teams of four specialists (e.g., engineer, HR expert, lawyer, and lead) coordinating with a rebranded U.S. DOGE Service in the Executive Office of the President. This model makes DOGE’s influence more pervasive and harder to dismantle, as it’s no longer a single target but distributed “watchdogs” with data access and decision-making roles. Critics, including Democrats, have raised concerns about political influence from these embedded staffers. Overall, while not every minor agency may have a formal “DOGE office,” the embedding affects a broad swath of the federal government, with ongoing activities like contract terminations (e.g., $1.9 billion in recent cancellations). Geopolitical https://twitter.com/disclosetv/status/1992964442380779549?s=20 https://twitter.com/CynicalPublius/status/1992964685071839677?s=20 Barbary Pirates were a raiding group of true pirates who captured American and European ships off of the North African coast, stole the ships and cargo, and enslaved or ransomed the crews. The pirates were generally under the control of the Ottoman Tripolitania, and many were true privateers: i.e., civilian ships and civilian crews causing great harm to American interests. So President Thomas Jefferson sent the Navy and the Marine Corps to North Africa to blow those private ships and crews the hell out of the water. Tommy J. didn't have Predator drones like Trump is using to blow narcoterrorists out of the water who are trying to slaughter hundreds of thousands of Americans with fentanyl, but Tommy did have some kick-ass Marines to blow pirates out of the water who were enslaving American citizens. Right on the shores of Tripoli. Hence the song. But Democrats are too stupid to know what that means. ‘Murica. Blowing up civilian ships since 1801, all to protect America. So how about it, you lobotomite Democrats? Were Tommy J.'s orders lawful or unlawful? We all know the answer, even though you won't admit it. Lawful. Just like Trump's lawful preservation of American lives from the scourge of fentanyl. Learn a little history, you Democrat goons. Now go write the Marines' Hymn 5,000 times on the blackboard until you learn your lesson. War/Peace Europe’s Counter-Plan For Ukraine Peace Leaves Door Wide Open For NATO Admission Even as the Trump White House is busy in Europe trying to get NATO and EU states on board its 28-point peace plan which controversially demands the Ukrainian side cede territory, the Europeans have leaked their own counter-plan which proposes much less in the way of compromise with Russia. The UK, France, and Germany have put forward their own counter-proposal, and the draft differs sharply from the US version. Like with prior proposed deals, it contains terms which Moscow is expected to flatly reject, mostly notably it does not provide guarantees that Ukraine will stay out of NATO, and also absent is the ceding of any territory. While Trump’s plan makes clear that Ukraine must renounce ever joining NATO, the European draft states that Ukraine's potential NATO membership “depends on the consensus of NATO members, which does not exist.” This intentionally ambiguous language of course leaves leaves the door wide open, dependent on when such consensus is reached. We have lost more people in three years than some European nations have as the whole population. My country is bleeding out. Many who reflexively oppose every peace proposal believe they are defending Ukraine. With all respect, that is the clearest proof they have no idea what is actually happening on the front lines and inside the country right now. War is not a Hollywood movie. Under our Constitution, the federal government and the states have distinct powers — especially when it comes to elections. But the Trump administration has repeatedly tried to interfere with how states run elections, pushing unlawful policies that undermine faith in safe, secure and accurate elections.Host Simone Leeper sits down with Catie Kelley, Senior Director of Policy and Strategic Partnerships at Campaign Legal Center, and Jonathan Diaz, CLC's Director of Voting Advocacy and Partnerships, to examine how the Trump administration has attempted to federalize elections, impose unconstitutional voter restrictions and silence Americans. They unpack CLC's major court victory against the administration's unlawful election executive order; explain how new proof-of-citizenship requirements could disenfranchise millions of voters; and discuss lawsuits defending states' rights and voters' privacy against federal overreach. They also explore broader threats—from troubling legislation and to presidential attacks on mail-in voting—and what Campaign Legal Center is doing to preserve checks and balances, protect election integrity and defend every American's freedom to vote.Timestamps:(00:00) — What does “federalism” mean, and why is it under attack?(02:50) — How is the Trump administration overstepping its authority on elections?(06:44) — What lawsuits has CLC filed to stop the president's election overreach?(07:58) — Why are proof-of-citizenship rules so dangerous for voters?(11:28) — How are military families impacted by new voting restrictions?(14:50) — Why is the DOJ demanding states' voter data—and why is it alarming?(17:56) — How are states pushing back to defend their power and voters' privacy?(19:10) — What is the SAVE Act, and how could it silence millions of voters?(25:16) — Why is mail-in voting under attack again?(28:41) — How does misinformation from the president erode trust in elections?(30:51) — What lessons from 2024 should shape the 2026 midterms?(34:04) — What can states do to strengthen confidence in elections?(36:24) — What should voters remember heading into 2026 and beyond?(40:17) — How can Americans hold the line for democracy?Host and Guests:Simone Leeper litigates a wide range of redistricting-related cases at Campaign Legal Center, challenging gerrymanders and advocating for election systems that guarantee all voters an equal opportunity to influence our democracy. This Day in Legal History: Final Draft of the US Constitution EngrossedOn September 16, 1787, the final draft of the United States Constitution was signed by the Constitutional Convention delegates in Philadelphia. Although the official signing date was September 17, the 16th was the day the finished document was ordered to be engrossed — meaning it was written in its final, formal script on parchment. This step marked the culmination of four months of intense debate, compromise, and drafting by delegates from twelve of the thirteen original states. The Constitution replaced the failing Articles of Confederation and established a stronger federal government with distinct executive, legislative, and judicial branches.Debates on September 16 included last-minute details such as how amendments could be proposed and the extent of federal power over the militia. The delegates had already resolved key issues like the Great Compromise (creating a bicameral legislature), the Electoral College, and the Three-Fifths Compromise regarding the counting of enslaved individuals for representation. One of the final acts on the 16th was the approval of the letter that would accompany the Constitution to Congress, urging ratification by the states.Though the Constitution would still need to be ratified by nine of the thirteen states, the events of September 16 set the stage for the formal adoption the following day. The engrossed copy would be signed on September 17 and later become the foundation of American law and governance.Maurene Comey, a former federal prosecutor and daughter of ex-FBI Director James Comey, has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over her sudden termination in July. She alleges that her firing was politically motivated, stemming from her father's adversarial relationship with Donald Trump. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, names both the Justice Department and the Executive Office of the President as defendants and claims Comey was given no reason for her dismissal. According to the suit, Comey had received strong performance evaluations, including one in April signed by Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.Comey had played key roles in high-profile prosecutions, including the sex trafficking case against Ghislaine Maxwell and the recent conviction of Sean “Diddy” Combs on prostitution-related charges. She was fired just two weeks after the Combs trial ended. The email she received from DOJ human resources cited presidential authority under Article II but offered no specific explanation. When she asked Clayton about the decision, he allegedly said, “All I can say is it came from Washington.”The lawsuit challenges the administration's ability to remove career, non-political prosecutors and raises concerns about politicization of the Justice Department, particularly in cases involving Trump or his allies.Former federal prosecutor Maurene Comey sues Trump administration over firing | ReutersElon Musk's company X Corp has settled a trademark dispute with legal marketing firm X Social Media over the use of the “X” name. The case, filed in Florida federal court in October 2023, stemmed from Musk's rebranding of Twitter to X, which X Social Media claimed caused consumer confusion and financial harm. As part of the resolution, both parties asked the court to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be reopened. The founder of X Social Media, Jacob Malherbe, confirmed the settlement and announced the company will now operate under the name Mass Tort Ad Agency. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, and X Corp did not issue a comment. The lawsuit was one of several Musk's company has faced over the “X” name, which is widely used and trademarked by numerous businesses, including Microsoft and Meta. In its defense, X Corp argued that many companies have long coexisted with similar “X” trademarks and accused X Social Media of trying to exploit the situation for profit. This settlement follows another earlier agreement in which X Corp resolved a separate trademark claim brought by the firm Multiply. The dismissal brings closure to a case that raised questions about branding overlap and trademark dilution in an increasingly crowded digital landscape.Musk's X Corp settles mass-tort ad agency's trademark lawsuit over 'X' name | ReutersTwo U.S. law firms, Bartlit Beck and Kaplan Fox & Kilsheimer, are requesting $85 million in legal fees after securing a $700 million settlement with Google over alleged antitrust violations tied to its Play Store. The settlement, which is still pending approval by U.S. District Judge James Donato, resolves claims that Google overcharged Android users by restricting app distribution and imposing excessive in-app transaction fees. Under the agreement, $630 million will go to a consumer fund, with another $70 million allocated to a state-managed fund shared by all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.Consumers are expected to receive a minimum of $2, with additional compensation based on their Play Store spending from August 2016 to September 2023. Google also agreed to ease restrictions on app developers, allowing them to inform users about alternative payment methods and enabling easier direct app downloads from the web. The fee request amounts to approximately 13.5% of the consumer settlement fund, and the firms say they invested nearly 100,000 hours over more than three years. While Judge Donato previously raised concerns about the scope of the deal, no U.S. state has objected to the fee request so far. Google has not admitted any wrongdoing as part of the settlement, and users will still have the opportunity to raise objections before final approval.Lawyers behind $700 million Google settlement ask for $85 million fee award | ReutersMy column for Bloomberg this week looks at Norway's recent national election, which effectively became a referendum on one of the last remaining wealth taxes in Europe. Despite having a $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund and no immediate fiscal need for a wealth tax, Norwegians narrowly backed the Labour Party, signaling that voters still care about fairness in taxation—even when the government doesn't need the money. In a global landscape where wealth taxes have mostly disappeared, this was a small but potent victory for the principle of equity.I argued that this matters beyond Norway. Wealth taxes used to be common across Europe, but most were abandoned due to fears of capital flight and elite lobbying. That Norway held the line—even amid billionaire threats and a populist surge—suggests that wealth taxes can survive politically when fairness becomes a central electoral value. It also underscores that symbolic wins can shape broader policy debates by proving what's administratively and politically possible. In the U.S., we lack Norway's fiscal cushion, yet we've persistently avoided taxing wealth. Policymakers often justify this inaction with fears about capital mobility, but I question whether we're really more vulnerable to capital flight than Norway is. The deeper issue is political will. Americans have long treated wealth taxation as politically toxic and bureaucratically unworkable, but that may be more a product of narrative than necessity.Norway's voters showed that fairness can be enough to win—even narrowly. But I emphasize that such policies require ongoing public defense; they don't sustain themselves. If we continue dodging the issue in the U.S., we'll be doing so not from a place of strength, but from a place of illusion. If Norway can defend taxing wealth despite not needing to, we have no excuse not to even try.Norway Wealth Tax Victory Shows Visible Fairness Still Matters This is a public episode. In this episode of Badlands Daily, CannCon and Alpha Warrior break down a flurry of major developments, starting with Donald Trump directly naming Barack Obama as the ringleader of the Russia hoax in a new Truth Social post. The duo explores how this bold claim ties into the recently declassified Clinton email appendix, which reveals unreviewed thumb drives and potential intelligence breaches in the Executive Office of the President. They dig into new information surrounding the Seth Rich case, questioning whether this long-buried story is finally coming to light as part of the broader unraveling of Russiagate. Other topics include a suspicious joint military training exercise involving DHS, FBI, and DOD; NASA's strange website outage; and signs of a pivot in the Biden administration's COVID narrative. Border security chaos and the blurred legal lines for illegal immigrants in court proceedings also take center stage, with Alpha connecting the dots between collapsing systems and the intentional dismantling of law and order. Packed with fiery commentary and big-picture perspective, this episode captures the accelerating pace of revelations and their implications for both justice and the 2024 election narrative.
In Episode 374 of Devolution Power Hour, Jon Herold and Burning Bright dig deep into the newly released declassified appendix to the DOJ's IG report on the Clinton email investigation, and the implications are seismic. From unexamined thumb drives to evidence that may have been exfiltrated from the Executive Office of the President, the hosts walk through what they call one of the biggest cover-ups in modern American history. They explore how the Clinton investigation and Russiagate were not separate scandals, but two sides of the same coin, engineered to cover each other and to stop Trump. Jon and BB also reflect on Trump's recent Truth Social posts calling out Obama as the ringleader of the Russia hoax, breaking down how Trump's carefully chosen words may signal upcoming moves. They dive into recent judicial happenings, the Maui fire cover-up, bizarre military activity, and the media's silence on major stories. It's an episode packed with red-pilled analysis, sharp speculation, and a sobering look at what the unraveling of the official narrative might truly mean.
On this episode of Badlands Daily, CannCon and Ghost unpack the stunning details from a newly declassified appendix tied to the Clinton email investigation. Ghost walks through FBI failures, specifically the never-reviewed thumb drives believed to hold data exfiltrated from U.S. government entities including the State Department and even the Executive Office of the President. The two dig into the FBI's refusal to investigate key intelligence and its attempts to dismiss hacked communications between Loretta Lynch and Hillary campaign staff. With the Durham report, OIG files, and other declassifications lining up, CannCon and Ghost connect the dots on what they call a deliberate two-pronged operation: one to bury Clinton's crimes, and another to frame Trump. Also in this episode: speculation on CrowdStrike, the possibility of Seth Rich being a key source, the current state of Bitcoin, and Trump Media's $2 billion crypto pivot. Ghost emphasizes the spiritual war at play while CannCon keeps one foot firmly in the forensic trail. The picture is becoming clearer, and more incriminating.
In this episode of The Daily Herold, Jon dives deep into a newly declassified appendix of the DOJ's OIG report on the Hillary Clinton email scandal, and what he uncovers is jaw-dropping. From thumb drives the FBI never reviewed, to evidence possibly exfiltrated from the Executive Office of the President, Jon walks through the buried intel that shows how the Clinton investigation was stonewalled and mishandled at the highest levels. He breaks down shocking Russian intelligence reports intercepted by the FBI, including claims that Loretta Lynch fed updates to the Clinton campaign and that key evidence was wiped just in time. Jon connects the dots between the Clinton cover-up and the broader Russiagate conspiracy, arguing both were necessary to protect the establishment and undermine Trump. With new attention on the Fed, Bitcoin moves by Trump Media, and curious coincidences around Alaska Airlines and CrowdStrike, this episode delivers a dense hit of corruption, speculation, and long-awaited receipts.
Judicial Watch has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly failing to comply with multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests concerning Jeffrey Epstein's associates and clients. The conservative watchdog group submitted four FOIA requests between February and March 2025 to various DOJ components, including the Office of Information Policy, the Criminal Division, the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, and the FBI. These requests sought records related to Epstein's activities and communications involving Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel regarding the handling and potential release of Epstein-related documents. Despite acknowledgments and assigned tracking numbers, Judicial Watch claims the DOJ has failed to provide the requested information or justify any withholdings, prompting the lawsuit filed on April 8, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The lawsuit references a February 24, 2025, Fox News report in which Attorney General Bondi stated that Epstein's client list was "sitting on [her] desk." However, a subsequent DOJ document release on February 27, 2025, was criticized for lacking substantive revelations, as it primarily listed already known associates of Epstein. Judicial Watch argues that the DOJ's actions violate FOIA and hinder public transparency regarding Epstein's network. The organization seeks a court order compelling the DOJ to conduct thorough searches for responsive records, produce all non-exempt documents, and provide explanations for any withholdings. Additionally, Judicial Watch requests that the court enjoin the DOJ from further withholding non-exempt records and award attorney's fees and litigation costs incurred due to the DOJ's non-compliance.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:DOJ allegedly violating FOIA over Jeffrey Epstein files
