The book of Acts really gets going after the disciples of Jesus witness his ascension to heaven. This was a critical event since Jesus's presence in heaven meant that he was now the Lord of heaven and earth. Assured of Jesus's command of everything, the disciples and first believers in Jesus rejoiced at what this would mean for them as they waited for the arrival of the Holy Spirit to empower them for the work they were going to do.
The sermon emphasizes the vital connection between genuine faith and obedience to God's word, asserting that true Christianity transcends superficial prayers and requires a profound, personal relationship with Christ. Drawing from passages in 1 John, Romans, and Hebrews, the message clarifies that God's discipline and conviction are signs of His presence and that a life devoid of these experiences indicates a lack of genuine faith. Ultimately, the sermon calls listeners to examine their hearts, repent of sin, and embrace Christ as Lord, offering assurance of salvation through faith and encouraging a life governed by His word, culminating in a call to action and an invitation to request resources for spiritual growth.
The sermon emphasizes assurance of salvation and answered prayer, rooted in obedience to God's commandments and a genuine love for Christ and fellow believers. It clarifies that boldness in prayer is not arrogance but a confident, respectful approach stemming from a life dedicated to pleasing God, marked by a reliance on His word and a willingness to endure potential persecution. The message underscores that true assurance comes from the Holy Spirit's witness within, leading to a life of fruitfulness and a deep intimacy with God, ultimately seeking His will rather than personal desires.
The sermon emphasizes the importance of a heart assured before God, distinguishing between mere verbal expressions of love and genuine, deed-based love that reflects righteousness and obedience to God's commandments. Drawing from 1 John 3:18-24, the message underscores that true Christianity is rooted in a transformed heart, characterized by tranquility, confidence, and a commitment to living a life pleasing to God, ultimately leading to a deeper relationship with Christ and assurance of His presence through the Holy Spirit. The speaker encourages listeners to examine their own hearts, recognizing God's grace and faithfulness even amidst imperfections, and to demonstrate their faith through actions and a consistent pursuit of holiness.

Last week in Part I, we began our journey with legendary alpinist Jim Donini — exploring his surprise cancer diagnosis, his early days in Yosemite, and the philosophy that has defined his career: “Getting to the top is optional. Getting back down is mandatory.”In this second part of our conversation, we turn from the mountains themselves to the human side of Jim's story. At 82, Jim reflects on:The partnerships that shaped his greatest climbs — and what makes someone a great partner in the mountains and in lifeThe sacrifices and personal costs of chasing bold objectives, and the double-edged gift of being able to block out hardshipLessons from living and climbing in places like Pakistan and Patagonia, and how those cultures shaped his worldviewWhat it means to slow down, face illness with honesty, and still look ahead with optimismThe legacy he hopes to leave, and what “ageless” means to him todayJim speaks with the same candor and optimism that have marked his five decades in the world's hardest ranges. His reflections on life, loss, and resilience remind us that survival is never guaranteed — but meaning can be found in how we choose our lines, both on the mountain and off.If you haven't yet, go back and listen to Part I — it lays the foundation for everything we cover here.

For more than five decades, Jim Donini has defined what it means to be an alpinist. Not by chasing the tallest mountains or summit glory, but by seeking out the hardest lines in the world's most remote ranges — places where storms, hunger, and survival itself are never guaranteed. Now at 82, Jim is still climbing, still dreaming, and still teaching us what resilience looks like. In this first of a two-part conversation, he opens up about receiving a surprise cancer diagnosis, how he approaches adversity with the same directness he once brought to multi-week storms in the Karakoram, and why he has never lost his motivation to keep moving forward. We cover:Why the highest peaks never interested him — and why difficulty mattered more than altitudeThe philosophy of retreat: “Getting to the top is optional. Getting back down is mandatory”His early days in Yosemite and how confidence and boldness shaped his pathStories from Torre Egger, Latok I, and the Karakoram — some of the most consequential climbs in modern alpinismHow he keeps looking ahead despite health challenges and the odds of ageJim's story is one of awe, resilience, and optimism. It's a reminder that survival is never guaranteed — but meaning can be found in the way we choose our lines, on the mountain and off.

This is Matt Reustle. Today's Breakdown caters to both public and private investors alike. My guest is Aaron Cohen, head of the Financial Services and Technology Group at GTCR, and our topic is insurance Brokers. I was initially intrigued by Aaron and GTCR after seeing their announced $13 billion sale of Assured Partners to Arthur J.Gallagher, an incredible success story in the insurance brokerage space that we covered in a previous breakdown. But, what I failed to appreciate, and you'll hear Aaron politely correct me in the episode, is that not only did GTCR own Assured through two separate periods, they actually built the business with CEO Jim Henderson from the ground up. We cover GTCR's approach to scaling businesses, the nuances of their leadership strategy, and why this space is so attractive to the PE market. Please enjoy this Breakdown on the insurance brokerage space. In 2017, Zelda Perkins broke an NDA of more than 20 years to speak out against Harvey Weinstein. Since then, she's tirelessly campaigned to end the misuse and abuse of NDAS – non-disclosure agreements – used to silence victims. Her campaigning included setting up Can't Buy My Silence in 2021, and Mick chatted to her about that at the time. Earlier this month, the Government announced it will ban NDAs designed to silence victims of workplace harassment and discrimination, a change that will be implemented through amendments to the Employment Rights Bill. A week later, the Lords passed it. This is a huge victory for Zelda – and the many brave people who have broken NDAs – after tireless campaigning, so obviously Mick got her back on the podcast to talk about the whats, whys, hows and what's next. As the designs for HS2 took shape, the new team behind it set out to prove its value to Ministers and MPs. But as Kate hears, long term flaws were being baked into the project, with an economic justification that centred on outdated assumptions. And, as the designers sought to make the justification, they adjusted the design - making it more expensive. The focus on speed was exciting - but it also distracted from the line's real purpose. The initial vision was becoming more muddled by the minute. The Senate's vote-a-rama continues, as members offer and vote on amendments to the Republican's tax and spending cuts bill. But passage of the bill isn't a sure thing. Republicans Rand Paul of Kentucky and Thom Tillis of North Carolina have both said they're voting "no", while Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska haven't said how they'll vote. Congressional Republicans and President Trump have said they want the bill passed and signed into law by July 4th. Last night on the floor, Sen. Tillis criticized both the bill's Medicaid cuts and the president for breaking a campaign promise to not interfere with Medicaid benefits. That prompted responses from the president on social media, including one announcing he'd said he would back a primary challenge against the senator. Not long after, Sen. Tillis announced he would not seek reelection next year. A federal appeals court heard arguments today on the president's use of the Alien Enemies Act. Lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union say the Trump administration is unlawfully using the law to take away due process for possible deportees. The administration maintains that a Venezuelan gang is carrying out an invasion of the US at the direction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Learn more about your ad choices. Dr. David B. McWilliams - June 29, 2025
The book of Genesis ends with the deaths of Jacob and Joseph, both of whom express interest in their physical remains resting in the Promised Land rather than in Egypt. Within the context of Genesis this is not surprising, because the emphasis is on God's promise, a promise which is not about "going to heaven when you die" but about Israel's fate in the land God promised to them. Assured of God's love for them, God's people dare to believe that even after they die God will finish the plan that he started in the beginning.

The amazing fact of being 'in Jesus' is that whatever happens in our lives, whatever we do, God has promised to work it toward His purpose for us. It means our best intentions, may fail, our hard work may not be enough - but God is. God takes eternal perspective on our everyday life and says, "this is good. I can work with this." It is the perspective of redemption, every day.Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. Please visit CFONorthAmerica.org to learn more about our retreats, and online courses. We're living through a moment of global upheaval—where the old order is crumbling, and the future feels dangerously uncertain. At the heart of this instability is the evolving, uneasy relationship between the U.S. and China: two powers with the ambition and capacity to shape whatever comes next, yet with fundamentally different worldviews. In this episode of New Thinking for a New World, we hear from Chandran Nair, founder of the Global Institute for Tomorrow, a Pan-Asian think tank. Speaking from an Asian perspective, Nair argues that China may be more clear-eyed than the West about how the world should work. Is he right? Listen and decide for yourself.
