Polska tradycja historiograficzna, i to średniowieczna już, nic nie wie o koronacji 1025 roku, my to wiemy tylko ze źródeł niemieckich – mówi (nie ma co ukrywać, dość zaskakująco) prof. Grzegorz Pac z Wydziału Historii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. Rozmawiamy oczywiście o koronacji Bolesława Chrobrego.To nie znaczy, że tej koronacji nie było. Po prostu dla średniowiecznych polskich kronikarzy dużo ważniejszym wydarzeniem było symboliczne nałożenie korony przez Ottona III podczas zjazdu gnieźnieńskiego. Starania o rzeczywistą koronację utrudniła Bolesławowi śmierć młodego cesarza. Przez kolejnych 25 lat cesarstwem władali ludzie Bolesławowi nieprzychylni. Koronował się dopiero po śmierci Henryka II, kiedy tron cesarski był chwilowo pusty. Nie znamy jednak dokładnej daty dziennej, Wielkanoc 1025 to tylko jedna z możliwych dat.Pewną zagadką jest imię Chrobrego. – Wiemy, że to jest imię Przemyślidów – wskazuje historyk. Boleslav to imię dziadka oraz wuja, krewnych od strony matki – Dąbrówki. Imię po ojcu, Mieszko, odziedziczył dopiero jego młodszy, przyrodni brat. To wskazuje, że Mieszko I jako dziedziców swojego księstwa widział raczej synów drugiej żony Ody, a Bolesław być może miał władać raczej w Czechach (i rzeczywiście władał, ale krótko). Kiedy zmarł Mieszko I, Bolesław wziął sprawy w swoje ręce. W ogóle się przy tym nie patyczkował. – Wszystko wskazuje na to, że przejął pełnię władzy głównie siłą oręża, siłą brutalnej ingerencji – mówi mój gość. Szybko wygnał z kraju macochę i młodszych braci i już w 992 roku był samodzielnym polskim władcą.Z historii kojarzymy go przede wszystkim z dwóch rzeczy: licznych wojen, głównie z niemieckimi panami, oraz zjazdu gnieźnieńskiego i późniejszej koronacji. Wojen toczył rzeczywiście sporo, ale trudno je tak naprawdę postrzegać jako wojny polsko-niemieckie. – Cały bój się miał niby toczyć o naszą suwerenność, a tak naprawdę on się toczy o nasze miejsce w Rzeszy – opowiada prof. Pac. Bo władca Polski był jednym z wielu panów, którzy na własnym terenie sprawowali dość samodzielną władzę, ale i tak mieli nad sobą kogoś, z czyim zdaniem musieli się liczyć: cesarza niemieckiego. Zjazd gnieźnieński i obdarowanie cesarza Ottona III relikwiami św. Edition No127 | 13-04-2025 - Russia used ballistic missiles in its strike on Sumy today, packed with cluster munitions -- designed for maximum damage -- according to chief of Zelenskyy's Office Andriy Yermak. Russia killed 32 civilians, including two children, but the death toll from the strike is still rising. A trolleybus full of people was at the epicentre of Russia's aggression. It was Palm Sunday; many people were going to church. According to Ukraine's spy chief Kyrylo Budanov, two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles were launched by Russia's 112th and 448th missile brigades from the territory of Voronezh and Kursk oblasts. Ostap Ukrainats was born in 1994 in Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine. He graduated from the National Kyiv-Mohyla University with BA and MA degrees in comparative literature. He made his debut as a writer in 2017 with the novel "Malchut", which was hailed the "debut of the year" by Village magazine. Since then, his novels „Trance” and „Crusade Chancellery” were well received by readers. Ostap writes in the genre of historical and peculiar fiction, often referring to cultural heritage and history of anecdotes. He lives in Lviv. Of his four novels, three are dedicated to historical events and explore Ukrainian identity through the prism of postcolonial and trauma studies. Ilya Ponomarev is a Russian-Ukrainian politician who was a member of the Russian State Duma from 2007 to 2016. After the 2022 Russian invasion, Ponomarev joined Ukraine's Territorial Defence Forces, and categorically denounced the invasion. While a member of the Russian State Duma, he was the only deputy not to vote in favour of the Russian gay propaganda law and to vote against Russia's annexation of Crimea in March 2014. Ben Hodges is a retired United States Army officer, who became commander of United States Army Europe in November 2014, and held that position for three years until retiring from the United States Army in January 2018. Until recently he was the Pershing Chair in Strategic Studies, at the Centre for European Policy Analysis, specialising in NATO, Transatlantic relationship and international security. ----------Over the past week, Russia sent 1,220 glide bombs, 40 missiles and more than 850 drones into Ukraine, including a couple of high explosive drones that hit the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. The idea that Putin wants peace is a dangerous delusion. Yet at the Munich Security conference last week several things came into sharp focus. The Trump administration seems desperate to secure peace and is prepared to grant any concession to get Putin to simply agree to negotiations. The victim of the war, Ukraine, and its largest supporter in monetary terms, Europe, are being cut out of the negotiation process. Ukraine is denied the security of NATO membership. Sanctions against Russia may be eased, and war criminal Putin normalised on the world stage. Moreover, the US under Trump is prepared to extort and blackmail victims of war and terror such as Ukraine, to strip its mineral resources, deny its agency and negate its sovereign borders. Europe is being told it's on its own, with the implication it comes under Russia's Eurasian imperial sphere of influence. David Satter is a journalist and historian with unique insights into how the deformation and repression of the past, is having terrible consequences for present day Russia. David has written extensively about Russia and the Soviet Union, especially the decline and fall of the USSR and rise of post-Soviet Russia. David Satter became the first American journalist to be expelled from Russia since the Cold War in December 2013. This was perhaps not a surprising move, given that his books have covered topics such as the FSB's role in the apartment bombings that brought Putin to power. From 1976 to 1982 David was the Moscow correspondent of the Financial Times, and then became a special correspondent on Soviet affairs for The Wall Street Journal.
