Alex Andreou and Naomi Smith welcome special guest Rafael Behr to talk about the choices facing the Starmer government. Or as Raf put it "the fork on the road that everyone seems to see, but Starmer refuses to acknowledge. And - why has our right wing media landscape become so Americanised? Plus 'Wokey Dokey' and 'Grin And Share It'. ***SPONSOR US AT KO-FI.COM/QUIETRIOTPOD*** ”I think we should be very glad that we are blessed with quite bad fascists.”  “The public expect Starmer to be more ambitious in recalibrating the UK's relationship with the EU. If he is not prepared to do that now, when the atmospherics are what they are and the entire world order has been turned upside-down, maybe we have to accept he is just not going to do it.” “There is no way to explain why one would think TikTok is dangerous because the firm is close to the Chinese regime, but X is fine because it is fully owned by a rich guy that does Nazi salutes, to think one agenda dangerous but not the other, that doesn't involve some basic ‘state-bad, private-good' belief.”  “There is a profound crisis in the British Right, because the refutation of their big-picture political model has been so thorough - not just Brexit, austerity, the Truss budget, the most popular thing Sunak ever did was to pay everyone's wages - they have nowhere to go.”  CALLS TO ACTION Go here to add your voice on what our new UK/EU relationship should look like. https://www.commonsensedeal.com/ Foxglove - the UK organisation fighting for tech equality can be found here. Steven Tripp, Richard Storch & Sam Buono are joined by the mastermind behind MajorsLast.com, the author of Trigger Warming and former Australian Conservatives and Libertarian candidate, Jeff Grimshaw. This is certainly a fiery debate, with many opposing viewpoints. All four jump into the deep end and discuss a range of issues surrounding the three centre-right minor parties, the Libertarians, One Nation and the United Australian Party. They discuss whether the Minor Parties should merge, or if it is even possible. They analyse if a joint ticket or collaboration is the best option. They discuss the challenges the Minor Parties face and whether merging would address those challenges. They even examine if the party system itself is broken and if an alliance of Independents is the answer. Finally, Steven argues that supporting Minor Parties may be a mistake; instead people's efforts should be directed towards reforming the Liberal Party. Similarly, Jeff argues that the National Party should be taking the lead and have more power within the Coalition than they realise. This week it has been culture war issues dominating the news cycle. Joining me to discuss all of it is once again Senior Editor of The Unshackled Damien Ferri. Former rugby player Israel Folau last Friday opened up a GoFundMe page to fund his legal challenge against Rugby Australia for terminating his playing contract. This attracted a fair bit on controversy given that he has a property portfolio worth $7 million. On Monday morning, GoFundMe pulled Folau's page for violating their terms of service. The Australian Christian Lobby has restarted the legal fund and already raised over $1 million in less than 24 hours. The escalation of emotion around this issue has increased with freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association and corporate power being hotly debated. Cory Bernardi announced he was planning to deregister his Australian Conservatives party after their poor performance at the federal election. He claims the party is no longer needed because Scott Morrison is a good conservative Prime Minister. A lot of his former members and supporters would beg to differ with that view are vowing to relaunch a new proper conservative party very soon to offer a real alternative to the Australian voters. There has also been change in Fred Nile's Christian Democratic Party with 18 year old Samraat Joshua Grewal assisted by 22 year old Joel Jammal removing the party's state executive in an effort to renew the party after they failed to have their state MLC re-elected at the NSW state election. Damien also gives us a report on the True Blue Crew Aussie Pride Solidarity March at Penrith in Sydney last Saturday. Around 30 patriots attended with Ricky Turner the special guest speaker. It was a low turnout but with most patriot groups banned from Facebook advertising these events is much more difficult. Show Description: In another Wednesday night live episode of the show I go through the major news developments of the week with Senior Editor of The Unshackled Damien Ferri. Internationally protests in Hong Kong against the introduction of an extradition bill which could see its citizens subjected to the Chinese legal system have been successful in halting the bill, a rare defeat for the People's Republic of China. The social justice AFL took things too far this week with their behavioral awareness officers policing fans in the crowd. It is just another overreach into social life that the AFL has embarked on. The fans this week make it clear they'd had enough. Adani protestors are deciding to be even more annoying by gluing themselves to a road in the Brisbane CBD. They are giving the vegan activists a run for their money. Cory Bernardi has said he is open to rejoining the Liberal Party and they are open to having him back. It would be a massive admission of political failure if Bernardi were to do this after leaving to start Australian Conservatives. In Progressive Victoria, voluntary euthanasia has come into effect. Despite Premier Daniel Andrews claiming it is the strictest law anywhere in the world many pro-life activists still have concerns about allowing state-sanctioned killing. Also in Progressive Victoria they proposing laws to introduce gender fluid birth certificate as transgenders or others no longer need surgery to change their gender to whatever they like as long as it's not obscene or offensive. Westpac has decided to close the bank account of patriot activist Blair Cottrell, in a further escalation of the deplatforming of right-wing figures. He had already been banned from PayPal. It is suspected his account was closed due to his appeal against his blasphemy conviction. Hosted by Guardian Australia’s editor, Lenore Taylor, and social researcher and author Rebecca Huntley, Common Ground aims to go beyond filter bubbles to understand why voters are disillusioned with the political system, and how they have formed their political views. We talk to four Australians each week who represent a variety of political views from Cory Bernardi’s Australian Conservatives, to the Greens and the two major parties.

There are still a few weeks left to run in the same-sex marriage postal ballot campaign, and millions of votes are yet to be returned – or not returned. With 67.5% of ballots now in, Equality Campaign executive director Tiernan Brady says the high turnout shows the importance of a “yes” vote to people's lives and dignity. He says tyranny of distance in Australia has made campaigning difficult, compared to his experience during Ireland's marriage referendum. Despite criticism of what some saw as invasive tactics, Brady describes the efforts made by the “yes” campaign as largely positive and respectful. However, he admits there have been unfortunate incidents and “clowns” on both sides, but that they were largely “on the fringe”. On the “no” side, Australian Conservatives senator Cory Bernardi is unwilling to concede defeat. He praises the “grassroots movement” and “rockstar” mums and dads. On the Abbott factor, he says high-profile “no” voters have been “very effective”. If the “yes” vote wins, Bernardi foresees a few contentious debates over protections for religious freedoms and freedom of speech. “If the government is serious … they won't embrace the [Liberal senator Dean] Smith bill.” Bernardi's party has benefited somewhat from the same-sex marriage debate: he estimates his party now has the third-largest membership in Australia.

This was an interesting chat. The first part recorded on March 7 covers Senator Bernardi's recent journey and decision to start his own party - the Australian Conservatives - something we covered briefly in the second ever episode of Pollie Wanna Cracker. He talks in detail about what led to the decision while also discussing the political landscape as a whole, including whether corruption exists in Aussie politics. Twenty-four hours later, a Fairfax Media report was published alleging Senator Bernardi failed to declare a $1 million property in Kent Town, South Australia. In part two the Senator speaks openly about the report. Follow Pollie Wanna Cracker on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @polliepodcast

A day after moving to the crossbench, senator Cory Bernardi is feeling the heat. The media, former Liberal colleagues and South Australian voters all have a view on what he's done. "People will say what they're going to say. And I've tried to be consistent. I've been accused of many things in my time in politics but I've looked to be consistent and principled in my approach to policy areas. "Strangely, many of the people calling me an opportunist are the ones that exploit, you know, a momentary weakness to grasp power or influence, or promotion for themselves," Bernardi says. A lot of the people who look favourably on his decision: "are disillusioned Liberal Party sympathisers that said 'I couldn't bring myself to vote for the Liberal Party at the last election' or 'I wasn't intending to vote for them but at least now I can give you my vote knowing that our values will be upheld.'" As interest focuses on whether billionaire businesswoman Gina Rinehart will donate to the Australian Conservatives, Bernardi leaves the door open. "Gina's a pal and I never ask my pals for money directly. If people want to offer support or resources to what I'm doing then I wait for them to raise it. And there's a reason for that. It's because, you know, friendship is valuable and I'm not prepared to put people in an uncomfortable position if that's not what they want to do." "It's an enduring friendship. I have great admiration for her [Rinehart]. You know, she's a very private person and I like my private life to remain private too and we're friends," he says. ___ _Music credit: "Albiero A", by Dlay on the Free Music Archive_
