In this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast, I welcome my dear friend Rick Rule into the studio for a wide-ranging discussion about commodities, capital allocation, and the kind of opportunities that emerge when patience meets deep industry knowledge. Drawing on decades of experience in the resource sector, Rick explains why he believes the fundamental case for commodities remains compelling despite years of investor neglect. From copper and oil to inflation, monetary instability, and the lessons of previous commodity cycles, our conversation explores the forces driving supply shortages and why many investors continue to underestimate how difficult and time-consuming it is to bring new production online. Along the way, Rick also shares his thoughts on speculation, risk management, and the importance of understanding not just what you own, but why you own it. In this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast, I'm joined by author Dominic Frisby for a conversation that is equal parts monetary history, philosophy, and comedy. Best known to many as a comedian, writer, and commentator, Dominic brings a rare ability to explain complex financial ideas with clarity, humour, and perspective. The discussion traces his journey from trying to finance a West End musical to becoming one of the most recognisable voices in the world of gold and sound money. Along the way, we explore why gold continues to exert such a powerful hold over the human imagination, what its enduring appeal reveals about the nature of money itself, and why the debate over gold remains as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. In this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast, Brendan Ballou returns for a fascinating and deeply important conversation about the rise of forced arbitration and the quiet transformation of the American legal system. Brendan explains how what began as a narrow mechanism for resolving commercial disputes has evolved into a vast private justice system that increasingly shields corporations from public accountability. Through examples ranging from hidden cellphone fees to wrongful-death cases, the discussion explores how decades of court decisions have steadily weakened consumers' and workers' ability to challenge powerful institutions—particularly when harms are individually small but collectively enormous. Along the way, he lays out why this matters far beyond the courtroom, touching on incentives, transparency, corporate power, and the broader erosion of trust in public institutions. In this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast, I welcome my good mate Dave Dredge of Convex Strategies for a fascinating conversation about fragility, portfolio construction, and why so many traditional investment frameworks are no longer fit for purpose. Using everything from London Tube strikes to Mandelbrot's work on volatility clustering, Dave explains why markets should be understood not as stable systems occasionally disrupted by shocks, but as inherently fragile structures where hidden stresses build quietly over time before suddenly erupting. At the heart of our discussion is the “total portfolio approach”—a growing institutional framework that focuses less on the standalone return of individual assets and more on how each position contributes to the resilience, correlation profile, and survival of the portfolio as a whole in an increasingly unstable world. Jawad reflects on his decision to leave Dubai and return to Toronto, explaining how the move forced him to rethink not only where he wanted to live, but also the kind of person and investor he wanted to become. What emerges is a discussion about rhythm, reflection, and the importance of creating enough mental and emotional space to think clearly in a world dominated by speed, outrage, and constant distraction. Stijn Schmitz welcomes Grant Williams to the show. Grant Williams is Financial Advisor, Portfolio & Strategy Advisor, and a Co-Founder of Real Vision. In this wide-ranging discussion, Williams explores the potential transformation of the global monetary system, highlighting significant shifts in geopolitical and economic dynamics. He argues that the world is experiencing a fundamental reordering of monetary power, with the US dollar’s global dominance potentially eroding due to factors like sanctions, increasing government debt, and diminishing international trust. Williams suggests that gold could emerge as a critical stabilizing asset during this transition, potentially serving as a temporary anchor for a new monetary system. He emphasizes that countries are increasingly losing confidence in the US dollar, with many gradually reducing their dollar reserves and turning to alternative assets like gold. This trend isn’t necessarily a deliberate choice, but a natural response to systemic uncertainties. The conversation delves into the concept of a “fourth turning” – a generational framework that suggests periodic massive societal transformations. Williams sees the current global environment as consistent with this model, characterized by significant economic and geopolitical upheaval. He believes we’re transitioning from an era of virtual financial abstractions to a world focused on tangible assets and real value. Regarding investment strategies, Williams recommends a patient approach to commodities. He suggests focusing on essential resources like oil, copper, and other critical minerals, noting that we’re likely entering a long-term commodity bull market. He advises investors to conduct thorough research, understand commodity dynamics, and be prepared for a potentially slower, more deliberate investment landscape. Williams also cautions against complacency, arguing that the era of guaranteed government bailouts and easy monetary policies may be ending. He encourages investors to re-examine their assumptions, be open to new perspectives, and recognize that historical investment strategies might not work in this emerging economic environment. During that time, he's lived and worked in seven major financial centres from London to Sydney, building the kind of network that many others can only dream about. He began his career in the Japanese equity market in the mid-1980s, before a three-year posting to Tokyo ensured he had a ringside seat as the twin bubbles in equities and real estate burst simultaneously and spectacularly at the end of 1989. After a short stint back in London, Grant relocated once again, this time to New York, where he spent 7 years. Subsequent postings have taken him to Hong Kong, Sydney, Singapore, and the Cayman Islands. Currently, he is a senior advisor to Von Greyerz in Switzerland, and a portfolio and strategy advisor to Vulpes Investment Management in Singapore. Back in 2014, Grant's ambition to bring the most intelligent, engaging, and original people in finance to a wider audience led him to co-found Real Vision, an on-demand internet-based financial media platform. Grant's twin Real Vision interview series, In Conversation With… and On The Road raised the bar for financial content – engaging and educating viewers in equal measure and helping them learn the secrets behind a group of extraordinary investors' success. Long before Real Vision, however, Grant was guiding people around the fringes of finance with his regular newsletter, Things That Make You Go Hmmm…, a publication which, from humble beginnings as a daily note to a few friends and colleagues, has grown into one of the most widely-read financial publications in the world.

Drawing on deep historical parallels with the collapse of the Soviet Union, he sets out his ‘reverse Gorbachev' thesis: an effort to impose a form of capitalism with a national-security face, subordinating markets to strategic necessity, elevating the Treasury over the Federal Reserve, and accepting higher inflation, heavier state intervention, and intensified political conflict at home and abroad in order to rebuild power and resilience. Kamran traces Iran's modern political evolution from Qajar Persia through the Pahlavi monarchy, the 1953 Mosaddegh coup, and the 1979 Islamic Revolution, explaining how the regime's dual-military structure—split between the regular army and the IRGC—was forged in war and later transformed into a vehicle for political and economic dominance. From Iran's revolutionary ideology and fear of encirclement to the rise and possible unraveling of its proxy network, the conversation builds toward a sober assessment of today's protests, currency collapse, and internal decay—arguing that while the Islamic Republic may be weakening in unprecedented ways, the path forward is likely to be turbulent, uncertain, and region-shaping rather than clean or sudden. In this latest episode of The Hundred Year Pivot, Demetri Kofinas and I are joined by Peter Atwater, adjunct professor at William & Mary and author of The Confidence Map: From Chaos to Clarity. Together we explore Peter's groundbreaking framework for understanding how confidence shapes behaviour, societies, and markets through four emotional quadrants: the comfort zone, the stress centre, the launch pad, and the passenger seat. What begins as a psychological model quickly expands into a sweeping reflection on generational fragility, social media conformity, and the dangerous imbalance of a world where too few people feel in control of their own lives—and where the next shift in collective mood could redefine politics, finance, and community itself. In this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast, I welcome my old mate Ned Naylor-Leyland, long-time precious-metals fund manager, for a detailed discussion on the shifting dynamics of gold, silver, and the mining sector. Ned argues that gold has decisively emerged from a 44-year bear market against Treasuries to reclaim its role as the world's true risk-free asset, signalling the start of a genuine, structural bull market. He outlines why silver—still lagging behind gold—may soon explode higher, driven by surging industrial demand, physical shortages, and growing Indian appetite, before turning to the extraordinary profitability now building within mining equities. The result is a conversation that reframes precious metals not as relics of the past, but as vital assets in a new monetary era. Welcome, friends. Today, I want to share a piece that I will be posting on my Makes Sense Substack, called the Alchemy of Forgiveness. This time, it's all about you. It originated from a mastermind topic I did for a plant medicine integration group I host monthly with the friends of Arkana. Feel free to reach out for more information on that. But I thought it would make for a great short form Podcast Episode to accompany it. As we approach this sensitive subject, please be aware of the following. I do not know what it is like to walk in your shoes, nor do I know your pain and circumstances. This process of forgiveness is a unique and individualized situation that will carry an acquired taste for some. What i do know is that your life experience can become extraordinary the moment you decide to stop carrying its weight on your shoulders and it will happen the moment you change the way you look at forgiveness, and this is the intention of this episode. In full transparency, I have come to termswith the fact that I will be working to release myself from its burden for the rest of my life. However, it is in my decision and intention to release it, that I have found my Freedom.   ►Follow Dr. JC Doornick and the Makes Sense Academy: Instagram: / drjcdoornick   Facebook:  / makessensepodcast   YouTube:  / drjcdoornick     MAKES SENSE PODCAST Welcome to the Makes Sense with Dr. JC Doornick Podcast: This podcast covers topics that expand human consciousness and performance. The state only builds around 100,000 to 150,000 new housing units a year, far below what is needed to meet the demand. - One of the most popular sessions was “Estate and Tax Law Changes Coming Down the Pipeline” led by Brian Standing, Scott Gilmore and Stacey McKinnon. They discussed how the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is set to expire in 2025, reducing the estate tax exemption limit. The speakers highlighted the importance of considering tax-efficient strategies and staying aware of estate taxes as laws begin to sunset and inflation grows. Thank you to everyone who attended our symposium! We hope you were able to leave the event with more knowledge and confidence in your financial future. We plan to release recordings of the sessions on our YouTube channel in the coming months. Where does it come from? 19:16 - It's gonna take some PRACTION (Practicing Action) SHOW NOTES:  I AM LOVE: The minute you can shift from I would be fine if i were this way to I AM you will set yourself free to simply BE. Be who? You, that's who. And if you allow yourself to bask in it with no distractions? Being you is pretty cool isn't it? No one else is like you. You are one of a kind aren't you? Let's take this day and focus on recognizing that I AM that makes you, and learn to see it in others. I AM LOVE. I AM ENERGY. I AM AWARENESS. Fascinated with the feeling and act of being IN love. I was curious if humans require another person to be IN LOVE or is it that person we have found or seek that allows you to express that which you already are? There is something called AGAPE LOVE? In the Bible, agape is a Greek word that describes a selfless, universal, and unconditional love that is characterized by self-sacrifice and loving others. It appears frequently in the New Testament, but rarely in other ancient Greek literature. The word comes from the verb agapan, which means "to greet with affection". However, it starts with loving yourself. I was exposed to a cool theory the other day that said that when two people are in love, that is just their souls hanging out with one another. Experiencing life freely with each other.  In reading the book, Polishing the Mirror by Ram Das and diving deep into his work elsewhere, he speaks about the fact that if we strip away everything that we are seeking in life. I call it the “ER”. HappiER, HealthiER, WealthiER. We are all seekers of the er no? Strip all that desire away, what are you left with? You are left with that which you are. The, I AM. What can you recognize about yourself after taking everything away in your life that is not you? That's your I AM. When it comes to that love you seek or crave, isn't that something already inside you that you want to let out? To be IN LOVE? I just find it fascinating because there is often an illusion that's been created by a world that offers for the most part conditional love. From what we've learned, love has rules and circumstances doesn't it. We have our brushes through parents and the right spouse that offer unconditional love. But even that has conditions, no? But like the hard problem of consciousness, ie; us not understanding what exactly it is or where it is created. Where does love come from? Does it require two entities? Does it come from an outside force? Like a magnet, does it require a positive and negative force? Your love for your spouse, your children, your pet, your job, your best friend, or perhaps your life at this time? Are these things required for you to be in love? Or is love who and what you are? Already inside you. You're I AM. Can you see that we are all hungry to be in a state of love? Most commonly interpersonal romantic love. But this has a shelf life which concerns us. It's gonna inevitably end one day, no? What I love about meditation is that it allows me to strip away the dependency from all external things and unveil that I am in fact already in love. This state often makes me want to share this love with others and external forces. Can you see that in thinking love requires an outside force or another person, we are often prompted to take possession of those you love as your own? Through forming friendships, marriage and parenting or even owning a pet. All the while unconscious to the fact that there resides an unlimited supply of love in the awakening that it is the primal source and main ingredient in what makes you, you. Get a grasp on this concept and awakening and it will help you gain clarity in many aspects of your life's desires which is where we struggle the most. If you can start to affirm and embrace each start of your day in recognition of this by stating I AM LOVE. It will help put many things in perspective and allow you to slow down your love hunger drive and allow yourself to be grateful in the present moment. When it comes to the things you possess that allow you to express more of what you already are? Your spouse etc.. Perhaps you can do so with a simple state of gratitude for them as they have come into your life to remind you of who you are? How cool is that. Look at the person next to you that you are in love with. Consider what that means in this context? You are already in love, as are they. Yet for whatever reasons unique to your energy and life experiences, the two of you offer one another a safe and effective space to feel and express love. This form of gratitude comes from appreciating them for allowing you to express your true self. Sometimes we are fortunate to find our way into a group of others that create a safe space to express and bask in the love of one another. In Buddhism there is something called Satsang or Sangha, that translates to "community of seekers after the truth" and is also known as sangha. It's a spiritual community where people gather with like-minded individuals, especially those on a spiritual path, to work on themselves and others, and to share food, stories, and kirtan. Satsang can also refer to a group of people engaged in a spiritual dialogue. For those frustrated that they are not in love and think that feeling is conditional to you finding the right person? Now you understand that you are needlessly suffering due to you thinking love is conditional. No. Love is unconditional because you are love. When you find someone to share that space with, yes, it will be nice and you too will be grateful for it and them. Just like you are grateful when the sun rises and creates what you call a nice day. But a nice day can exist like love, anytime you choose. Make Sense?

We are celebrating our 100th episode of THE FINANCIAL COMMUTE this week! Thank you for listening and supporting Chris and our guests these past two years. We are excited to continue empowering our listeners with financial confidence and knowledge through this podcast. To make this episode extra special, host Chris Galeski had a conversation with Grant Williams, author of Things That Make You Go Hmmm…, host of The Grant Williams Podcast and co-founder of Real Vision.  Here are some key takeaways from their discussion:- It is important to decide if you are a speculator or an investor. - Investors must be patient and adopt a long-term perspective in their investment strategies, focusing on the intrinsic value of what they are buying, and aiming to hold assets for extended periods of time, often through fluctuations.- A speculator's primary goal is to capitalize on market trends. This can be riskier since they are trying to time the market, which is often impossible. - Grant highlights gold as a reliable store of value during turbulent times.- With increasing geopolitical risks, high debt levels, inflation, and upcoming policy decisions, this is a time of instability where investors need to not only worry about growing their wealth but keeping it. - Grant encourages investors to stay updated with the news and consider how governments and central banks may react to certain events or solve issues, and how their policies could impact one's investments. It is important to be adaptable in your financial strategy as circumstances change.- Grant also shares his thoughts on the upcoming U.S. election and potential tax policies of each candidate.

Joining me in this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast is the Sydney-based CEO of Freelancer.com, Matt Barrie. Matt was recently invited to give the opening keynote at the Sydney Morning Herald's Sydney 2050 Summit and, it's safe to say that, once Matt left the stage 40 minutes later, the room had been stunned into silence. The Australia Matt laid bare was a long way from the idyllic, sun-kissed 'Lucky Country' of popular consciousness and far more in keeping with the portrait painted in the pages of Things That Make You Go Hmmm... over the last several years, so it was with great relish that I invited Matt onto the podcast to tell that same story and discuss the reaction to it. The full text of Matt's stellar speech can be found HERE and a video of his opening keynote is HERE. I'd strongly urge listeners to either read or watch Matt's speech in full. Bill and Grant return for a no-holds-barred conversation with the great Steve Eisman of The Eisman Group within Neuberger Berman. Steve is no stranger,  thanks both to his exploits during the GFC and the stupendous portrayal of those exploits by Steve Carell in the movie version of Michael Lewis' wonderful book, The Big Short. Steve explains the history of paradigm shifts and tells us why he feels we are at the point of another major change - not only in the investment landscape but also in broader society.  The recent meltdown in the mid-size banking sector comes under the microscope, as do Fed policy, lofty valuations, a likely return to a more familiar investment world, the tech reckoning and the purveyor of a certain set of ETFs focused on 'exponential growth' stocks. My returning guest in this edition of The Grant Williams Podcast is my friend Peter Atwater, Founder of Financial Insyghts and Adjunct Professor at the College of William & Mary. Peter's stellar work on the importance of mood and confidence has long been an important touchpoint for me when evaluating market conditions and likely paths ahead - never more so than this week. Given recent events, I wanted to try and add something to a conversation that has become noisier by the day. There are plenty of opinions and perspectives flying around (to which I'll add my own in this weekend's Things That Make You Go Hmmm…) and so it felt as though a conversation with Peter about the effect the twin collapses of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank this week are likely to have on public mood was a better contribution than debating the fast-moving details of what's happening.
