The Israeli government has begun preparations to ratify a deal that would begin releasing some of the remaining 98 hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7. In exchange, they plan to enact a ceasefire with Hamas and free hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Already, lists are circulating around the media of which hostages will be released first—women, children and seniors are taking priority—while Israeli hospitals and trauma centres are preparing to receive them, after they spent 467 days in captivity in Gaza. But, unlike the last brief ceasefire and hostage deal in Nov. 2023, this one likely won't have news media on the scene—and the handover from Hamas to Israel will be done differently, too. The process is expected to begin Sunday, Jan. 19. The reaction within Israel has been mixed. According to Vivian Bercovici, Canada's former ambassador to Israel, the deal is causing “agony and anguish” among some hardliners who slam the deal as a capitulation to Hamas, especially given that Hamas has not been “destroyed”, as the government promised, after 15 months of war. Others acknowledge that this the only way to bring the remaining hostages home quickly, whether they're dead or alive. On today's episode of The CJN Daily, Vivian Bercovici joins Ellin Bessner to provide an on-the-ground report from the Holy Land. She explains why the deal allows Israel to stay true to its founding promise that it will leave no one behind—despite the cost. What we talked about: Read more about Iris Weinstein Haggai's campaign to have the body of her Canadian-raised mother, Judih Weinstein Haggai, returned from Gaza, in The CJN. Hear the families of Canadian hostages (or victims) of Oct. 7come to Ottawa to lobby Canadian lawmakers to secure their release from Hamas, on The CJN Daily. Toronto resident Mayan Shavit opens up about the murder of her cousin Carmel Gat in Sept. 2024, a hostage held by Hamas in captivity in Gaza, on The CJN Daily. Most people have someone they look up to or want to be like. It might be a family member, a mentor, a sports star, a celebrity, or an individual that has achieved success in their line of work. In the 80's and 90's many wanted to be “like Mike.” Today, your daughter might want to be like Taylor Swift or you might want to make money like Elon Musk. It's natural for us to want to be like someone.During the first 90 Days of this New Year leading up to Easter, we invite you to join us in a journey through the book of Mark as we discover how to live and love like Jesus. He calls us to be “Like Him” and experience a life full of love, adventure, and purpose that will outlast our own lives. Beginning Sunday, January 7, and culminating on Easter Sunday, March 31, we will explore and discover what it means to live a life “LIKE HIM.”

Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. **Tai-Ex opening ** The Tai-Ex opened up 191-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 14,923 on turnover of $6.9-billion N-T. The market closed slightly lower on Thursday after moving in a narrow range as investors remained cautious ahead of an investor conference by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing. The release of U-S December inflation data also dictated (決定) market movements with many investors taking to the sidelines, pushing down turnover. **Coronavirus Home Care Consultations to Focus on High-Risk Groups ** The Central Epidemic Command Center says remote medical consultation services provided to all coronavirus patients during home quarantine are to be restricted to high-risk groups only. Health officials say the move is aimed more effectively allocating (分配) health resources. Beginning Sunday, only individuals aged 65 or above and 12 years or below with severe underlying health issues will be able to use the service during their five-day mandatory quarantine. According to the epidemic command center, those individuals will be able to consult their doctors and receive regular health evaluations remotely during the period. Other existing home care measures for patients with mild and asymptomatic infections remain unchanged. That includes remote prescription of medicines and their home delivery. **Japan Formal Charges for Abe Shooter ** A lawyer says Japanese prosecutors are expected to formally charge the suspect in the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with murder today. Tetsuya Yamagami was arrested immediately after allegedly shooting Abe with a handmade gun as the former leader was making a campaign speech in July. His five-month mental evaluation ended Tuesday, and he was reportedly deemed fit to stand trial. Police say Yamagami told them that he killed Abe because of Abe's apparent links to a religious group that he hated. In statements and social media posts, Yamagami blamed the Unification Church for bankrupting his family and ruining (毀壞) his life. One of his lawyers, told The Associated Press on Thursday that he expects prosecutors to charge Yamagami with murder and gun control law violations. **US Online Asylum System Launched ** From the US…. The Biden administration has launched (開始, 啟動) an online system for migrants on the Mexican border seeking asylum. AP correspondent Norman Hall reports. **Sweden Identifies Deposits of Rare Earth Elements ** A Swedish government-owned iron ore mining company says it has identified “significant deposits” of rare earth elements in Arctic Sweden that are essential for the manufacture of electric vehicles and wind turbines. LKAB's CEO said Thursday that the quantity of rare earth metals exceeds 1 million tons and is the largest known deposit of its kind in Europe. But the company warned that it could take at least a decade before mining starts. Sweden's energy and business minister said that the European Union's “self-sufficiency (自給自足) and independence from Russia and China will begin in the mine.” That was the I.C.R.T. news, Check in again tomorrow for our simplified version of the news, uploaded every day in the afternoon. Enjoy the rest of your day, I'm _____.

Here's a suggested Act of Contrition from the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:"O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen."

It all comes down to this. Paul has had three separate trials with not one guilty verdict because he is innocent. Yet the powers that be don't want to offend the Jews. So another trial is offered in the hostile city of Jerusalem. Paul avoids this by appealing to Caesar. In case you're wondering, that would be the infamous Emperor Nero. One of the all-time preeminent killers of Christians. So why would Paul make this deal? From a human perspective Paul made a mistake. If only he wouldn't have appealed to Caesar he would have been set free. Paul knew exactly what he was doing. A couple years earlier, Jesus told him this: “Take courage, for as you have testified to the facts about me in Jerusalem, so you must testify also in Rome.” Acts 23:11 In the Roman court of Caesar, Paul will have the opportunity to preach to the most powerful man in the world at this time. Indeed, as Jesus told him earlier, “You will be my witness to Kings.” In Acts chapters 24 and 25 there are no converts in Paul's preaching. Paul was told to be a witness, he was not told to make Christians. Christians are born through the power of the Holy Spirit. I was thinking about how each church has its own personality. Each church has something they are known for. I think one thing people would say about Illuminate is that we teach the Bible and we love others. In all of our ministries throughout the church I know this is true. So we will attract people who want to know what the Bible says and that's a really good thing. But there is a warning for a church like ours. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22 Paul's trials remind us of our calling. You see, every one of us is called to be a witness. We do that through our lifestyle and our words. It's our testimony accompanied with the fact of the resurrection. We are about to embark on an amazing journey together as a church family. Beginning Sunday, September 12th, I'll be rolling out what this looks like as I share the future vision of the church. We refer to it as "Illuminate 2.0." Our first five years gave us the opportunity to grow and discover our personality and now is the time to mature by having the entire church family put our collective personality into practice. We're not just hearers of the Word, we are doers!

All I want for Christmas is…a new beginning. What if every one of us could start over? What if each one of us was allowed a new beginning? Think of all the movies made, the books written, the stories told of those that wanted, needed and some even received a new beginning. It just might be a God infused cry into the heart of mankind. Since all sin and fall short of the Glory of God and no one is perfect, we are constantly seeking redemption. So many are in pursuit of a fresh start for an untold number of different reasons. Some good, some bad but the pursuit remains. One of the greatest fears I have moving forward is that many will give up the pursuit. They will become overwhelmed with the burden of this last year and as a result, they become too fearful to try to escape or too anxious to try anything new or too depressed to believe that joy can even be a reality in their life once again. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ then there is no valley too low for Jesus to carry you out of. There is no obstacle too big for Jesus to carry you over. There is no expanse too wide that he cannot carry you across. But you have to let Him pick you up! Beyond that, there is a deeper commitment you have made. If you are a believer, then you must go to those that are on the brink of losing hope. Right now, we must go to them and offer the hope that we are celebrating the birth of our Savior! The fresh start, the new beginning that is available to them as a result of what began at Christmas and ended with an empty tomb. How many out there today are crying out “All I want for Christmas is a new beginning?” But they just don't know where to start. If that is you or someone you know it would be a blessing if you joined us this Sunday. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/escape-urself-podcast/support
