Today's guest, Lorraine's young son, AJ, had a smile that would light up a room. Although a heart murmur had been noted at birth, it was thought to have resolved. He was growing and feeding well, and Lorraine had no idea that serious heart abnormality was worsening. The murmur was again noted after a fall at 7 months of age, and AJ was sent to Cardiology where it was determined that AJ suffered from a condition called aortic stenosis. He was scheduled for a cardiac cath to assess the severity of the stenosis.  On the drive to the hospital that morning, Lorraine turned around and AJ gave her one of his famous smiles. That was one of his last smiles because, during the procedure, young AJ's heart stopped. Despite medical interventions, they were unable to save her sweet boy. To say that AJ's parents were horrified would be a vast understatement. The last thing that Lorraine wanted to do was leave her baby boy in a cold hospital morgue. This is when Martin House  Children's Hospice stepped in. When I think of hospice, I think of organizations that help support families whose loved ones are dying. Martin House certainly does this, but it is so much more. The staff from Martin House came to the hospital to take AJ's little body and keep it cool. They allowed his family to stay with him for a full week until they were ready to put him to rest. They offered grief support to Lorraine and her family for a full year. They were everything Lorraine needed when her whole world was falling apart.  In addition to Martin House, Lorraine began listening to the podcast only one month after AJ's death. She says the parents who told their stories on the podcast became her friends and support system. She felt less alone as she listened and she felt herself ever so slowly begin to heal. Now two years after AJ's death, Lorraine works to help other bereaved parents just as she was helped. She is a resource for Martin House helping them learn more about helping parents and now she shares her own story with Always Andy's Mom listeners so they too know that they are not alone.

Stefan has some more US beers to share this episode. More importantly, it's from the corner of the US he is from. Texas based Martin House Brewing has been leading the way on gose variants. From pickle beers to michelada sour beers, they are going to extremes. Salty Lady is the base gose, which is an easy drinking gose. They added chamoy, a salty, sweet, bitter, sour flavor combo, to the beer. The results are something wild. Ozark Brewing Co returns to the show with their annual release of BDCS 2023. Second episode from the vault drop. Chris has some good beer and amazing brisket at Laughing Sun brewery as he finally makes it to beautiful Montana. Nick and his family adopt kittens that now are probably legally able to drink. He also encounters some home repair issues but luckily it turns out that his roof just wasn't attached. John and Nick got to dry hop the collab brew with Pecan Street and enjoy the brewery with their families. Heads up, we don't have any cans left. John got to take in Lollapalooza…….2022 but had a once in a lifetime experience, in a bad way, before Metallica came on. He also stopped by a long term target brewery in Off Color brewing and even got to chat with one of the owners. Chris enjoyed a wonderful hop bomb from Backslope Brewing in the Crooked Wind IPA. Nick has a slight departure from La Verdad with a coconut sour cream ale from Martin House.  John got to have the tremendous Dino Smores while at Off Color. We talk about the collabs we would like to see. (Surly, Pinthouse, ABW, Victory, and Green Man). John takes you down memory lane and hits you with a dad joke for this week. We discuss music festivals and kids attending them. Kevin O'Shea is the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Salt Hotels. After graduating from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, Kevin pursued a career in the corporate hotel design world. Chris comes through on Mother's Day and attends a fabulous Kentucky Derby watch party in Lexington. Nick also had a successful Mother's Day but is a little let down by one of his favorite go-to eateries. John treats his wife to a beautiful, home-cooked tomahawk chop steak for Mother's Day and is blown away by the new outdoor space at Celis Brewing. We talk about interesting beers we've had this last week including a single-hop IPA from West 6th Brewing, an award-winning pilsner from Meanwhile Brewing, and an insane sundae smoothie sour from Drekker Brewing.Then we shift from our regularly scheduled programming to our Mexican-style Lager and Michelada showdown. Chris decided to go ahead and chase waterfalls as he got to spend some much-needed time in the outdoors. One of his favorite Portland breweries in Montavilla brew works was just rated the #1 underrated West Coast brewery by Vine Pair. Nick is excited about his brother Dave coming in for a few weeks but not so much about the arrival time of his plane since he is on tap to pick his brother up. John and his wife win a contest that makes the Zilker anniversary just that much more fun. Baseball is back and we are all about it. Nick and his daughter take in their first live Monster Jam. We discuss something that John grew up within the WWF with the passing of Scott Hall. Chris talks about fun with his family at Mardi Gras in New Orleans but also that the birthplace of Mardi Gras is somewhere else. Nick had a wonderful time with his family in Orlando and has a lightsaber but is broke. John had a wonderful time during the Christmas season.
