America's industrial past lends itself to ghost stories. No one can doubt that working in industrial mills was a dangerous enterprise. These mills employed whole families, including children starting at six-years-old. Slater Mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island covers five acres in the Blackstone River Valley and is credited with being the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in America. There are three buildings on the property and all of them are reputedly haunted. The Blackstone Valley has several haunted locations and we'll also explore Tavern on the Main. Join us for the history and hauntings of Old Slater Mill and Tavern on the Main! The Moment in Oddity features Chachapoya Mummies and This Month in History features the Smallpox Vaccine. Our location was suggested by Laura Frye. We are doing these episodes in ABC Order of the states and episode thirty-nine is Rhode Island. The goal is to give you ideas and opportunities to experience outdoor adventure anywhere and everywhere in the United States of America. Here's our list for Rhode Island: 1. New England is the best place to see the foliage, especially in Rhode Island. Take a drive through the Blackstone Valley from Pawtucket to Smithfield and Woonsocket. Or down Route 1 in Westerly in the Southern Part of the State. If you prefer hiking, you could walk through the wooded areas of Roger Williams State Park in Providence or Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick. 2. Visit Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge and take a beach hike. The Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge Trail is a 2.4 mile trail is an easy seaside hike. 3. Visit Lincoln Woods State Park: Located just north of Providence, this state park provides hiking, horseback riding and swimming at a fresh water beach. 4. Ride the East Bay Bike Path: This 14.5 scenic paved bicycle trail runs from Providence to Bristol. The flat pathway makes for easy peddling and there are plenty of spots along the way to slow down and take in the incredible views. 5. Go seal watching! In North Kingston, spend an afternoon at the John H. Chafee Nature Preserve. A two-mile loop trail will take you out to Rome Point where from October to April you can chance upon seals hanging out on the rocks. The rest of the year, the trail is an enjoyable hike with lots of scenery. 6. Fort Wetherill. Check out the ruins of this abandoned military fort in Jamestown. Fort Wetherill is a 61-acre recreation area that also offers kayaking, scuba diving, swimming at the beach, or just random exploring. Join Eric, Lon & Sean on our annual Halloween show! We've got a spooky one this year as we welcome longtime Demonologists and paranormal investigators Keith & Carl Johnson Keith & Carl Johnson grew up in a house in Rhode Island where paranormal phenomena would occasionally occur. Those events triggered their extreme interest in the supernatural world. In the early 1970s, when they were just teenagers, Keith and Carl attended a lecture featuring paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren at nearby Rhode Island College. Subsequently, they developed a friendship with the Warrens, which lasted for decades. They joined a paranormal research organization at Rhode Island College, known as the Parapsychology Investigation and Research Organization (PIRO), and as it turned out, Keith's first major investigation turned out to be a case of demonic infestation. In October of 2004, Keith and his wife, Sandra, founded New England Anomalies Research (NEAR). Keith says they founded NEAR after the Ghost Hunters series, with which they were involved for the first two seasons, became so successful, because their involvement with the show made it difficult to focus on their clients' cases — especially those of a confidential and sometime even demonic nature. Keith often officiates when house blessings and exorcisms need to be performed for both TAPS and his own organization, NEAR. Keith still consults with TAPS as a demonologist, as well as working with fellow demonologists and associates at NEAR to help people who believe themselves to be the victims of hauntings, possession, or demonic oppression in New England. NEAR is comprised of many former investigators from TAPS, and they have stayed true to their goal of investigating and analyzing phenomena that is suspected to be of paranormal origin. Keith and his wife Sandra co-produce a weekly cable television show calledGhosts R Near in Providence, Rhode Island, which explores the topics of ghosts, the paranormal, and hauntings. Keith's twin brother Carl is a demonologist, too. He is also NEAR's senior investigator and alternate co-host of Ghosts R Near. He continues to explore the paranormal with his colleagues. Carl and his girlfriend Dina Palazini are the principle investigators at Beyond The Veil Paranormal. BTVP was established as a cooperative effort to penetrate some of the more elusive mysteries of humanity and the world we inhabit, to value expanding knowledge in favor of competition, and as a forum to share experiences. We interpret paranormal as that which is removed from what is contained by prevailing scientific standard. The two brothers combine their mutual love of history and the paranormal in the tours they conduct at Slater Mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Using their extensive knowledge of both Slater Mill and the Blackstone Valley area, plus their unique love of all things ghostly, they host tours in this old, allegedly very haunted mill in their Paranormal Pawtucket Ghost Tours.
