Josh Ethier is a film editor who has become a household name in horror. Josh is the editing force behind such films as: Contracted, Some Kind of Hate, We are Still Here, Mayhem, Leatherface, Bliss, VFW, Orphan First Kill, Christmas Bloody Christmas, The Seventh Day, Gretel and Hansel, Don't Breathe and most recently Companion which he edited alongside Brett Bachman.In this episode, Josh gets into his career history, editing process, collaborations with filmmakers like Joe Begos and Osgood Perkins and the story behind the recently released Companion, which is one of my favorite horror movies in a long time. Josh learned early on from Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) that feedback isn't about taking every note literally but understanding the note behind the note which requires deeper analysis.For instance, on Companion, early test screenings showed that one character was getting lower audience scores. Instead of softening the character, they leaned into the audience's dislike and committed to it—embracing the audience's reaction rather than trying to cater to feedback. As a result, the character actually scored higher in later tests.Editing is a “Four-Month Conversation” Between Director and EditorThe relationship between an editor and a director is one of the most intimate creative partnerships in filmmaking. Josh emphasizes that the strongest director-editor teams are built on genuine relationships, which is why socializing and getting to know each other outside of the work is just as important as the technical process.The best collaborations happen when an editor and director truly understand each other's creative DNA—the movies that inspire them, their sense of humor, their artistic instincts, and how they think about storytelling. The editing room isn't just where cuts are made; it's where creative risks are taken, where directors feel safe enough to experiment, and where an editor helps guide them toward their best possible work.The more an editor and director understand each other, the better they can anticipate each other's needs, develop a shorthand, challenge each other in the right ways, and ultimately make the movie stronger.Immerse Yourself in QualityJosh believes that editors—and all filmmakers—should obsessively watch and absorb great films. But instead of overanalyzing or attempting to reverse-engineer their greatness, the key is exposure. Some films are great because they have an innate rhythm, a unique DNA that can't simply be replicated. Rather than trying to deconstruct and apply a formula, internalize their essence. Understand what great filmmaking feels like, so when it comes time to shape your own work, you instinctively recognize when something is working—and when it's not. I'm Adam Jonas, Morgan Stanley's Head of Global Autos & Shared Mobility. Today I'll be talking about an unusual but hotly debated topic: humanoid robots. It's Tuesday, July 23rd, at 10am in New York.We've seen robots on factory floors, in displays at airports and at trade shows – doing work, performing tasks, even smiling. But over the last eighteen months, we seem to have hit a major inflection point. What's changed? Large Language Models and Generative AI. The current AI movement is drawing comparisons to the dawn of the Internet. It's begging big, existential questions about the future of the human species and consciousness itself. But let's look at this in more practical terms and consider why robots are taking on a human shape. The simplest answer is that we live in a world built for humans. And we're getting to the point where – thanks to GenAI – robots are learning through observation. Not just through rudimentary instruction and rules based heuristic models. GenAI means robots can observe humans in action doing boring, dangerous and repetitive tasks in warehouses, in restaurants or in factories. And in order for these robots to learn and function most effectively, their design needs to be anthropomorphic. Another reason we're bullish on humanoid robots is because developers can have these robots experiment and learn from both simulation and physically in areas where they're not a serious threat to other humans. You see, many of the enabling technologies driving humanoid robots have come from developments in autonomous cars. The problem with autonomous cars is that you can't train them on public roads without directly involving innocent civilians – pedestrians, children and cyclists -- into that experiment. Add to all of this the issue of critical labor shortages and challenging demographic trends. The global labor total addressable market is around $30 trillion (USD) or about one-third of global GDP. We've built a proprietary US total addressable market model examining labor dynamics and humanoid optionality across 831 job classifications, working with our economics team; and built a comprehensive survey across 40 sectors to understand labor intensity and humanoid ability of the workforce over time. In the United States, we forecast 40,000 humanoid units by 2030, 8 million by 2040 and 63 million by 2050 – equivalent to around $3 trillion (USD) of salary equivalent. But as early as 2028 we think you're going to see significant adoption beginning in industries like manufacturing, production, warehousing, and logistics, installation, healthcare and food prep. Then in the 2030s, you're going to start adding more in healthcare, recreational and transportation. And then after 2040, you may see the adoption of humanoid robots go vertical. Now you might say – that's 15 years from now. But just like autonomous car – the end state might be 20 years away, but the capital formation is happening right now. The show focused on Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban) as he returns to the police force several months after a raid gone bad having been the only survivor and losing one of his legs. At this point in the future, technology has advanced far enough to where every detective has an android partner know as MX's. John, upon returning to the force, wants a human partner as it was good enough for his partner and, in trying to do so, throws his MX out of his car onto the highway. His replacement is a DRN named Dorian (Michael Ealy), who had been decommissioned along with the rest of the DRNs when they were believed their emotions made them unstable and harmful. Unlike the MXs, who are very stereotypical, vacant, and unemotional robots, the DRNs and Dorian have emotions, look more human, and still possess the strength, intelligence, and combat skills of the other MXs. Over the course of the series, John and Dorian solve a variety of crimes all usually related to the group that lead to the botched raid John had conducted known as Insindicate. The series ends with a revelation that Dorian somehow contains organic human memories of childhood and the two having now become friends and good partners.

Today on The Neil Haley Show, Neil Haley and Kim Sorrelle interview Jesse Hutch. Jesse Hutch was born in the same location as the Marvel hero Wolverine. This could be nothing more then a fun fact, however, it does not excuse why Mr. Hutch is immune to Tylenol and Novocaine(most commonly used in dental practice). He drowned when he was 19 years old. Fell from a 25 foot rock quarry while free climbing in high school. Had his stomach cut open by a barbed wire fence when he was 10, and he moved across the country(solo) when he was 21 to pursue acting. This was the first time he was ever on an airplane. Now, after 22 years of being an actor, Jesse Hutch says he is still working on his: "22 year overnight success story". You may have seen him in classics such as Freddy vs Jason or The Butterfly Effect. Maybe you saw him in the 60's as Jimmy Riley on Dick Clark's American Bandstand(American Dreams). Dr. Berger joins us to discuss his new book Cave of Bones: A True Story of Discovery, Adventure, and Human Origins. We also go in-depth on the new Netflix documentary Unknown: Cave of Bones.  Lee Berger is an award-winning paleoanthropologist whose explorations into human origins on the African continent, Asia, and Micronesia for the past three decades have resulted in many new discoveries, including the discovery of two new species of early human relatives – Australopithecus sediba and Homo naledi. These discoveries were recognized by the Smithsonian as among the ten most important scientific discoveries of the decade in 2020. A current National Geographic Explorer in Residence, Berger won the first National Geographic Society Research and Exploration Prize in 1997. He was also named the Rolex National Geographic Explorer of the Year in 2016 and two years later, became an Explorer at Large. In 2016 he was named one of TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World. Berger has held positions at the University of the Witwatersrand, in South Africa since 1991, where until recently he served as the Phillip Tobias Chair in Human Evolution. He has also served in a number of advisory roles, including the Global Young Academy, the Jane Goodall Institute South Africa, and has chaired the Fulbright Commission. As an Explorer in Residence, Berger leads National Geographic's “Rising Star” project, named for the cave system and fossil site in southern Africa where he conducts his research. Teams under his leadership have recovered more individual hominid remains in sub-equatorial Africa over the last decade than were recovered in the previous 90 years. The 2015 PBS Nova National Geographic documentary "Dawn of Humanity" about Berger's discovery of Homo naledi and the Rising Star expedition was nominated for an Emmy. Berger's curiosity and passion for understanding the roots of humanity powers his work to advance knowledge about the origins of our species. الغامضة. يعود أصل الـ (cyberpunk)  إلى الأدب الخيال العلمي الذي ظهر في الستينات والسبعينات من القرن الماضي، ولكنه انتشر وازدهر في الثمانينات والتسعينات، وذلك بفضل العديد من الأعمال الشهيرة التي تناولت هذا الموضوع، مثل رواية "نيرومانسر" للكاتب وليام جيبسون التي صدرت في عام 1984.تعريف (cyberpunk)تأتي كلمة "سايبربانك" أو "سايبربونك" (Cyberpunk) من مزيج بين كلمتين:الأولى هي "سايبرنيتيكس" (Cybernetics) وهي تعني دراسة النظم الآلية والحيوية والتفاعل بينها.يشير مصطلح "سايبرنيتيكس" (Cybernetics) إلى دراسة النظم والآليات والتفاعلات بين الأجزاء المختلفة في الأنظمة الحيوية والآلية. ويتضمن هذا المصطلح فهم عام 1968:o      نوفا هي رواية خيال علمي من تأليف الكاتب الأمريكي صموئيل ديلاني ونشرت في عام 1968. تستكشف الرواية، التي تصنف رسميًا كعمل فضائي، السياسة والثقافة في مستقبل يتسم بانتشار تقنية السايبورج بشكل شامل (والرواية واحدة من سلفيات السايبربانك)، ولكن يمكن أن تنطوي صناعة القرارات الكبرى على استخدام بطاقات التاروت. تحمل الرواية نغمات أسطورية قوية، وترتبط على حد سواء بمسألة البحث عن الكأس المقدسة
