As two cis-gendered men without children, talking about motherhood in academia isn't really our forte. So, with Lachlan travelling, we took the opportunity to invite Hélène Draux from Digitial Science as guest co-host with Jakob for a conversation about motherhood in academia with Lisette Espín-Noboa and the role it plays in the gender gap. Lisette is a postdoc at the Complexity Science Hub and Central European University.We discuss the structural issues within academic institutions that disproportionately affect mothers and offer recommendations for creating a more supportive environment for women researchers. Te gast is onderwijsfilosoof Piet van der Ploeg en we spreken over opvoedend onderwijs als remedie tegen wat hij noemt domheden in het onderwijs. Piet is lector Pedagogiek en Ethiek bij Academica en heeft zijn wortels in de Groningse School van Jan Dirk Imelman. Piet vertelt eerst over zijn kennismaking met het onderwijsdenken van Imelman en diens triadische pedagogiek, oftewel de pedagogische driehoek: leerling-leraar-leerstof. Tot zijn verbijstering zag hij de pedagogiek verworden tot dyadisch en uiteindelijk monadisch, want nu is alles gericht op de leerling en diens eigenaarschap. De verzelving van het onderwijs noemt hij dat. Een van de domheden die hij waarneemt in het onderwijsveld. In het vervolg gaan we in op andere onderwijsdomheden en hypes, zoals rondom de drie van Biesta en burgerschapsonderwijs. Tegenover kwalificatie, socialisatie en subjectificatie zet Piet de vier van Ballauff. Theodor Ballauff onderzocht drieduizend jaar onderwijsgeschiedenis en ontdekte ruim dertig onderwijsfuncties, die hij onderbracht in vier dimensies: kwalificatie, socialisatie, wereldverbetering en ontvorming. Dat laatste betekent dat leerlingen tijdens de kwalificatie, socialisatie en wereldverbetering ook leren om daarop fundamenteel kritisch te zijn. Zij moeten zich kunnen onttrekken aan de intenties en invloed van die eerste drie. Kritisch denken kenmerkt ten slotte de onderwijsvisie van Piet zelf. Hij noemt die opvoedend onderwijs en schrijft daarover een boek. In lijn met Imelman en Ballauff gaat het hem bij onderwijs om weten en om geweten. Simpeler kan hij het niet maken.
