Brenda Reiss Talks About Forgiveness and Self-Forgiveness Brenda Reiss is with us today for the sixth time. She is dedicated to helping people overcome obstacles that hold them back from living life to its fullest, by guiding them through a special 5-Step Forgiveness Process. She says that self-forgiveness helped her to transition out of victimhood and into the life that she was meant to live. Brenda has experienced these obstacles firsthand, in the form of toxic relationships, eating disorders, and anxiety, which can consume everyday life when problems like these are allowed to control our lives. Brenda has developed a very successful forgiveness coaching practice, and she has written a great little book called Forgive Yourself. Roberta suggests two key points to explain why what Brenda teaches is so important. First, to be perfectly frank, the people who wrong us don't really care whether we ever forgive them. Forgiveness of others is always the gift that we give to ourselves! And it is the greatest gift that we can give to ourselves, no matter how hard it may be! And second, many people don't even realize that the core problems at the center of their lives have to do with things for which they are blaming themselves. So self-forgiveness may in your case be something that you especially need to learn! Brenda's website is brendareisscoaching.com. From Betrayal To Breakthrough

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 27, 2025 26:19

Episode Highlights:  Welcome back to the podcast after a short hiatus! This first episode of the new year is packed with insights, inspiration, and actionable tips to help you heal, grow, and thrive.  The focus of this episode: Letting go of what no longer serves you to create space for new possibilities in your life.  Key Takeaways:  A Fresh Start for the New Year:  January often brings "New Year, New You" messages, but real transformation starts with releasing what holds you back.  Instead of adding more to your plate, reflect on what you can let go of—old beliefs, habits, or even physical clutter.   Forgive Yourself:  If betrayal has left you blaming yourself ("How did I not see this?"), it's time to give yourself grace.  Betrayal isn't your fault; you didn't know how to think like someone deceptive. Let go of the guilt and self-criticism.   Reframing "Lost Time":  Feeling stuck in Stage 3 (out of the 5 Stages from betrayal to breakthrough)? Don't beat yourself up for what you didn't know before. Celebrate the fact that you now have a proven roadmap to healing.   Letting Go of the Old:  Start small and tangible:  Clean out expired products, mismatched socks, or items you've outgrown.  Physical decluttering creates mental and emotional space for something new.  Let go of outdated beliefs like “I'll never heal” or “I can't trust again.” Replace them with believable "bridges" that move you toward new, empowering beliefs.   Rebuilding Trust:  After betrayal, trust in yourself and others may feel shattered.  Begin by trusting small, safe things: a beloved pet, nature, or someone close to you.  Borrow belief from others if needed—trust in their vision of your healing until you can trust in yourself.   Create New Habits:  Start with small, manageable steps:  Drink more water by keeping a glass nearby.  Walk a few times a week if exercise feels overwhelming.  Call or text a friend daily to strengthen relationships.  Small wins build confidence and momentum, inspiring you to take on more over time.   Embracing Change:  Growth happens outside your comfort zone. Whether it's small, incremental changes or bold moves like starting fresh in a new environment, embracing discomfort leads to transformation.  Example: The host shares personal changes, like decluttering her closet, committing to staying in touch with friends, and implementing new business initiatives.   The Power of Incremental Transformation:  Change doesn't happen all at once. Slowly letting go of old patterns and integrating new habits leads to a complete transformation over time.  Celebrate every step forward—each small victory is proof of your resilience.   You Are Capable of Healing:  You may feel weighed down by trauma, but the person you're meant to become is already within you.  The host envisions you as the best version of yourself (Stage 4 or 5)—free from the pain, thriving, and fully healed. Use this vision as inspiration to keep moving forward.  Final Thoughts:  The journey from betrayal to breakthrough requires letting go of what no longer serves you—tangible items, outdated beliefs, or limiting habits—to create space for the new.  Start small, build momentum, and trust in your ability to transform.  Remember: Healing is possible, and you're stronger than you know.  Resources & Connect with Dr. Debi  The PBT Institute: Break free from the pain of betrayal and find safety, love, and trust again.  For the betrayed – Reclaim: Heal from your betrayal and take your life back.  For the betrayer – Rebuild: Heal yourself and help heal the heart you broke.  Take the Post Betrayal Syndrome Quiz – Post-Betrayal Syndrome Quiz  Want to become a Certified PBT Coach/Practitioner? Check out our FREE masterclass here.

Send me a Text Message! In this episode, we explore the profound idea that there are no truly bad people, only individuals operating from the shadows of their consciousness. Every choice we make, whether productive or destructive, stems from a perceived benefit tied to our internal programming. Using insights from systems like Gene Keys, we examine the journey from shadow states to higher levels of consciousness and self-awareness. This episode challenges you to look inward, forgive yourself and others, and understand the hidden benefits behind your choices as part of your spiritual evolution.Key Takeaways:Shadows Aren't Who You Are: Shadow states are temporary conditions, not permanent identities. They reflect unprocessed pain and programming, not the essence of a person's soul.Every Choice Has a Perceived Benefit: Even seemingly destructive choices are made because they offer some form of self-protection or perceived advantage in the moment.Your Growth is Inevitable: The spiritual journey is about moving from shadow to gift, and from gift to the highest state of consciousness. This evolution happens as you gain awareness and courage to look inward.Forgive Yourself and Others: Everyone is doing the best they can with their current level of consciousness and awareness. Understanding this fosters compassion and healing.Replace Old Patterns with New Awareness: As you uncover the hidden benefits behind your destructive behaviors, you can replace them with healthier, more aligned actions.Notable Quotes:“There's no such thing as a bad person—only people operating from corrupted programming and shadow behaviors.”“Every choice you've ever made was rooted in a perceived benefit, even if it was destructive.”“At the soul level, you are infinite, eternal, and nothing but love. Shadows are temporary distortions, not your true essence.”“Forgive yourself for the choices you made to survive, and give yourself permission to evolve.”“No one wakes up and says, ‘I want to ruin today.' When we fail to forgive, we forfeit nearness to God. Because we are so preoccupied with and holding onto an offense, it consumes our thoughts and occupies our minds. And when heart and mind space is taken up by unforgiveness, there's no room for The Lord to move in those spaces. Unforgiveness will torture you. It is to our benefit to forgive others. There is freedom in forgiveness. Letting go of hurts is like running free. Forgiveness is the key to unlocking the chains and baggage that weigh us down.

Rising Above Self-Doubt: Transforming Shame into Embracing Confidence

Encouragementology

Play Episode Listen Later May 21, 2024 35:00

SHOW NOTES: On this show…we are striving for a different vantage point as we rise above self-doubt, transforming shame into embracing confidence. According to a YouGov survey in 2018, about 50% of people reported experiencing self-doubt in their daily lives. That's a whole lot of insecurity. Is that what you see plastered all over social media…vulnerability? Just another clue that what you see on the surface may not indicate what is really going on under the water. Add in that shame reinforces self-doubt and self-doubt increases shame and you have a tangled web to unwind.  Self-doubt can create real challenges, both personally and professionally. It makes you doubt your abilities and holds you back from growing and achieving your full potential. At work, it stops you from taking on new projects or going for that promotion because you're convinced you're not good enough. This constant second-guessing can lead to major stress, anxiety, and even depression, making life a lot harder than it needs to be. It can also interrupt your relationships, as you struggle to trust others and communicate effectively. In the end, self-doubt becomes a vicious cycle that keeps you from living your best life. I seek strength, not to be greater than others, but to fight my greatest enemy, the doubts within myself. Can you pinpoint when self-doubt crept in and wrecked your confidence? Shame might be easier to identify since it's typically linked to specific events that you regret but doubt can be a silent thief. Robbing you of possibilities and opportunities you didn't have the confidence to go for. Just like the settlers did when they claimed new territory, let's put a flag in and start building a solid foundation of confidence as we eradicate shame and doubt!  Let's hear her Hack for Self-Doubt - Brene Brown Dr. Jeremy Sutton gives us more on the Shame Resilience Theory: Advice From Brené Brown found at positivepsychology.com Kendra Cherry sheds some more light on How to Forgive Yourself found at Very Well Mind At the Triving Center of Psych, I found Understanding Impostor Syndrome: Breaking Free From Self-Doubt Self-doubt often begins with a combination of internal and external factors. So here are some common sources - see if you're holding on tightly to any of these: Early Experiences: Negative experiences or criticisms during childhood, such as overly critical parents or teachers, can plant seeds of self-doubt. Comparisons: Comparing oneself to others, especially in the age of social media, can lead to feelings of inadequacy and doubt about one's abilities or worth. Perfectionism: Holding oneself to impossibly high standards and fearing failure can create a constant sense of not being good enough. Failures and Setbacks: Experiencing failures or setbacks can undermine confidence, making one question their competence and abilities. Negative Self-Talk: Internalizing negative thoughts and beliefs about oneself can perpetuate a cycle of doubt and low self-esteem. Unrealistic Expectations: Setting unrealistic goals or expectations can lead to a sense of failure when they are not met, fostering self-doubt. Lack of Support: Without a supportive network of friends, family, or mentors, individuals might struggle to maintain confidence in their abilities and decisions. Trauma or Stress: Traumatic experiences or chronic stress can erode self-confidence and lead to persistent self-doubt. CHALLENGE: Embrace your journey of self-discovery, for in overcoming self-doubt, you unlock the door to limitless potential. Let every stumble be a stepping stone, and every moment of doubt a reminder of your inner strength. Rise above shame because true empowerment is in believing in yourself, fiercely and unapologetically   I Know YOU Can Do It!

Welcome back to my new series “I'm the problem, it's me,” where I call bullshit on myself for the self-sabotage and mistakes I keep on making, because that's the stuff that teaches us the most. Today is a vulnerable one. Remember that recent “show me you at 21” trend that circulated on social media? Well that deep-dive through old photo albums and Facebook timelines sent me into a certifiable spiral. Reflecting on who I was in my teens and early 20s, I was confronted with a tidal wave of self hate over how I looked and dressed, how much I drank, how obnoxiously and overly-sexualized I present myself, and how disconnected I seemed to be from who I really am.The judgment and shame towards my past self was overwhelming, until I realized that my current self is in fact the problem. It's easy to be critical in hindsight, but when we were young, we were almost always doing the best we could with what we knew. I've spent a good chunk of adulthood resenting the versions of myself that came before this one. So it's me, Gill, I'm the problem, it's me. And in today's episode I'm rewriting my relationship with my past, and choosing compassion. Join me as I dive into: Why looking into my past brought up so much shame How accepting our past selves can lead to more confidence and compassion Aiming for neutrality and acceptance VS unconditional self-love The power of inner child work The tools I'm using to build self-compassion and change my self-talk Why you should write letters to your past self Learning from the versions of ourselves that we've outgrownWhy growth and change can go hand-in-hand with griefI hope we can all learn to love the past eras that brought us to this one, and in the meantime, know that I love you. Our show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host, Producer & EditorOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerKyla Killackey, Digital EditorCarolyn Schissler, Designer & Web ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. When nature brings on colder weather the leaves fall. The tree lets go what it does not need. Humans though because we have memories hold onto our past. We must learn that the leaves must fall. This episode is about the power of letting go and releasing the past. The past can be a seductive siren, luring us into its comforting embrace with the haunting melodies of "what was." It whispers tales of bygone days, some sweet, some bitter, yet all are gone. To live in the past is to walk in a world that no longer exists, to plant our feet in the shifting sands of a time that has already slipped through the hourglass. In our journey through the corridors of time, we often find ourselves looking over our shoulders, fixated on the shadows of what has been. Neville Goddard, a profound teacher of metaphysical thought, invites us to understand that our reality is a mirror of our inner states, our thoughts, and beliefs. It is within this understanding that we find the importance of releasing the past. To let go of the past is to free ourselves from an invisible burden that colors our world with the hues of experiences that are no longer alive. It is to acknowledge that we are not our history; we are the creators of our destiny. The past is like a worn-out garment—familiar, yes, but no longer a fit for the life we wish to lead. ✨Sign up for my newsletter and email list https://chiefexecutiveprime.activehosted.com/f/1

We cannot be forgiven until we forgive others. As long as we harbour negative thoughts of anger, judgement, hatred and intolerance against others we cannot be happy simply because while we harbour those feelings we feel the results of them. To be happy and free we have to give up all unforgiving thoughts. The word forgive is a two syllable word ‘for' and ‘give' and when you forgive it simply means that you ‘give' up being angry and intolerant and you replace it ‘for' something new, perhaps peace and harmony. You ‘give' up judgement and hatred and you replace it ‘for' something else, perhaps acceptance and love. Then you are free, do you see? It's not that the ‘Law of Forgiveness' is vindictive or spiteful or wants to hold something against you it's just that all the while you hold on to unforgiveness you cannot be forgiven. (The Universe/God is not trying to punish you; you are doing it to you) If you are finding it difficult to forgive or you feel fully justified or entitled to be aggrieved lets discuss the law of forgiveness and the way it works in your life and in reality creation.

I Bet You're wondering What's The Stigma Surrounding Mental Health Mental Health Stigma is the Negative Assumptions, Attitudes, & Beliefs about idividuals, who experience Mental Health conditions, for example Believing that someone's Mental Health Challenge is their Fault. WHY IT MATTERS? - Stigma causes people to feel ashamed for something that is out of their control. Worse, stingma prevents people from seeking the help they need. HOW DOES STIGMA OCCUR? - Stigma happens on multiple levels. - From Society = Public Stigma - From the Gov't & Organizations = Institutional Stigma - From Others = Interpersonal Stigma - From Ourselves = Internalized Stigma - When Stigma goes unchecked, it leads to discrimination by employers, by society, & by the Gov't which results in less opportunity & less access to care. HOW CAN WE ERASE MENTAL HEALTH STIGMA? 1. Talk openly about Mental Health within your family, friends, at work, on social media. 2. Educate yourself & others - respond to misperceptions or negative comments by sharing facts & experiences. 3. Be Conscious of Language - Remind people that words matter. 4. ""Many of you are now passing through physical, mental, and emotional trials that could cause you to cry out, 'When I've tried all my life to be good, why has this happened to me?' Now I wish to encourage those who in the midst of hard trials who feel their faith may be fading under the onslaught of troubles. There seems to me no better answer to the question of why trials come, and what we are to do, than the words of the Lord Himself, who passed through trials for us more terrible than we can imagine. You may have seen the need for that foundation as I have, at the bedside of someone ready to give up the fight to endure to the end. If the foundation of faith is not embedded in our hearts, the power to endure will crumble. [Mother yelling to her son] Moroni, the son of Mormon in the Book of Mormon told us how. He teaches the simple and sweet truth that acting on even a twig of faith allows God to grow it. That particle of faith --most precious-- which you should protect, and use to whatever extent you can, is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. You and I have faith, that the way to rise through and above trials, is to believe that there is a Balm in Gilead, and that the Lord has promised, 'I will not forsake thee. 'Curing does not come automatically through the passage of time, but it does take time. Getting older does not do it alone, it is serving God and others persistently with full heart and soul that turns testimony of truth into unbreakable spiritual strength. If we have faith in Jesus Christ, the hardest, as well as the easiest of times in life can be a blessing. In all conditions all we can choose the right with the guidance of the spirit. We have the gospel of Jesus Christ shape and guide our lives if we choose it. We never need to feel that we are alone or unloved in the Lord's service because we never are. We can feel the love of God. The Savior has promised angels are on our left and on our right to bear us up, and He always keeps His word. His love is unfailing I so testify, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.""
