In your youth, had you ever imagined what you might do if you had 1 million dollars? How you might spend all of those dollars on toys, games, and fun? Well back in 1994, Disney gave us a glimpse into what one young man in fact did with all that money. Blank Check, starring Brian Bonsall and Karen Duffy sees Preston Water cash a "Blank Check" for $1,000,000. However, trouble is not far behind, as he may have accidentally ripped off the wrong guys.Catch new episodes of the Where to Stick It Podcast every Tuesday and Thursday. Fatherhood - that's what brings here together today. Brian Bonsall accepts the challenge of playing Alexander Rozhenko, once again being introduced late into an ongoing series. (He played the kid in Family Ties, y'all.) This B-plot of riding the wave all the way to warp speed doesn't hold a lot of dramatic weight, but Worf transforming into a solid single dad in 47 minutes is quite the feat. They even saved some puppets along the way! Alexander is a welcome addition to the family, despite being scolded by the blonde schoolmarm on the Enterprise. On Episode 114 of the RETROZEST podcast, Curtis celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the great TV Sitcom FAMILY TIES! Beginning on September 22, 1982, and running for seven seasons, this program aired on NBC. Created by Gary David Goldberg, the show captured the transition in American culture from the cultural liberalism of the 1960s and 1970s to the conservatism of the 1980s. The interaction between teenage Republican Alex P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox) and his ex-hippie parents, Steven and Elyse Keaton (Michael Gross and Meredith Baxter-Birney), was a notable example of how this culture was expressed. Along for the ride are Alex's sisters; fashion-conscious, gossipy Mallory (Justine Bateman); and tomboy Jennifer (Tina Yothers). Other show regulars were Marc Price, Brian Bonsall, Tracy Pollan, Courteney Cox and Scott Valentine. Joining Curtis to assist is John Wentworth, former CBS/Paramount TV Exec who began at Paramount TV just after the Family Ties premiered. John was heavily involved with the promotion and production of the show; so he has some great behind-the-scenes stories! This is a great inside look at the this wonderful TV sitcom (which happens to be one of Curtis' favorites)! Incidentally, you may help the RetroZest podcast by purchasing a unique RETRO-THEMED T-Shirt or two (many different designs and colors!) from our store at store.retrozest.com/home. Jennifer Edwards and her Hollywood Legacy Jennifer Edwards will be remembered by Star Trek fans for her appearance on the TNG episode "New Ground," but her time in the spotlight is far more diverse than that sci-fi show. We take a deep dive into Jennifer's past and tell stories about her famous father, Blake Edwards, mother, Patricia Walker, and stepmother, Julie Andrews, and what it was like in a house where it was a typical day to see Peter Sellers, Jack Lemmon, or Cary Grant walk by. Jennifer tells us how she got the part on Star Trek, working with Micael Dorn and Brian Bonsall and her memories of the set and hanging out with LeVar Burton and Brent Spiner, her reaction to the episode along with a heartfelt note she received about her performance from a fan, and more on the future of her character that never came to be! Throughout Jennifer's career, she also worked with many Star Trek actors and has stories about them all, including William Shatner, Denise Crosby, Jean Simmons, Dana Sparks, and Molly Hagan. Plus, all about the infamous "Heidi Bowl," stories from "A Fine Mess" with Ted Danson and Howie Mandel, "The Man Who Loved Women" with Burt Reynolds, fixing another mistake from IMDB, Blake Edwards as a prankster, and the lessons about life and acting he taught his daughter, and what her favorite "Pink Panther" film is. What's worse than Disney adults? A whole month of adults (us) talking about Disney movies. Kicking off this month, we are starting with a mid tier 90s classic with a heavy child-adult relationship subplot, why its Blank Check. What if a ten year old got given a check for 1 million dollars in the 90s, when the property market was much kinder, well you'd get Blank Check, and Oscar and Carl need a blank check because they are trying to figure out who would watch this.
We kick off our eight-week horror celebration with part one of our Colorado Festival of Horror coverage. Erin attended the inaugural Colorado Festival Horror event this past weekend. Murder? Mikey likes it!! Our trilogy of killer kids reaches its apex with 1992’s MIKEY - a film that exists! Here to help us understand young, villainous minds is Returning Champion, Becky Wilson! We admit it - we don’t have much of a plot breakdown here. What we do have is LOTS of questions, like: What is a Raccoon Yamaka? Is a full body stocking too risqué for the hot tub? Why did we see so much of Freddy Krueger’s torso on film? Is Ashley Lawerence taking Heather Langenkamp’s hair volume crown? How many adults with terrible instincts were involved in Brian Bonsall’s lead performance? Finally, a new edition of Choose Your Own Death-venture emerges from the shadows and we also wonder aloud if this movie part of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise? The answers will frighten you in a way this movie WILL NOT!Never fear - new episodes of Kill By Kill are made available every other Friday! Dish By Dish on off weeks. Have something to say? In episode 3, Janson defends a movie that left an indelible mark on his childhood: the money sign! Blank Check from 1994 stars Brian Bonsall as Preston Waters, a 12 year old who finds himself in possession of a blank check written by a millionaire money-laundering convict. Chrissy makes him defend moments like what kind of parents are okay with their child "working" personally for an adult man they've never met, who sells a castle on a suburban street over the phone in a minute long transaction, and how long is too long for a kiss between a 12 year old boy and an adult woman.
Brian Bonsall is an American rock musician, singer, guitarist and former child actor. You might know him from Family Ties, Star Trek, or Blank Check. He has performed with The Ataris, is currently in a band called Sunset Silhouette.
Check, please! This Disney film had all the bells and whistles to appeal to its audience. A kid with too many zeros in his bank account, spending all his cash on ice cream, limo rides, and wall-to-wall TV screens. While it started to tease some interesting noir cop-film vibes, the movie ended up just being a weirdly positive platform for pedophilia. Nathan and Brendan are guest-less this week but still have plenty to say about the 1992 film "Mikey" about a very young serial killer. They'll talk about how every adult in this film definitely deserved their fate, the film's wildly inaccurate portrayal of the adoption process, the most awkward child actor of all time (not Brian Bonsall, he rules), marble time and much, much more. Mark, Rick and Brian share some final thoughts on Blank Check, while also touching upon the passing of Chris Cornell. The gents find out what became of the film's star Brian Bonsall, run through a list of movies that probably ripped off Home Alone and notice that Karen Duffy played a very similar character as her role in Dumb and Dumber. Rick and Brian also take a crack at making their own awkward segues, the lads play a couple games inspired by Tone Loc and run through all the singing food puns that were a part of Disney's Food Rocks attraction. In this episode, Joe and Jef sit down with one of their all time acting idols: Brian Bonsall (Mikey, Blank Check, Family Ties) for a discussion that is a culmination of their entire 15 year friendship. Brian is the nicest guy you could imagine, talking to the guys about working on Mikey as well as Blank Check and Star Trek: The Next Generation, his bands Lowjob and Bootjack and Bonz, his decision to leave acting when he was a teenager, and the necessity for passion in anything you do. Plus, Brian finally gives us an answer as to what Mikey's guilty pleasure is. It's a fantastic conversation and we at Quote Unquote Guilty cannot thank Brian enough for agreeing to come on and talk with us. You are the patron saint of struggling artists, sir and we wish you success and happiness in everything you do. In this episode, Joe and Jef sit down to discuss a movie that has defined their friendship for over a decade: Mikey (1992). They break down what they love about the movie with Andrew Kroepel, who has just seen the movie for the first time, discussing Mikey's psychology, Brian Bonsall's choices as an actor, where the line between Mikey's facade and his reality really lies, Mikey's hidden origins in 1970s television, the horrendous social services and police work done here, and maybe the best line of dialogue ever captured on film. This week on the podcast we delve yet again in the world of killer kid movies. We have watched quite a few in the past, including the next level psycho antics of The Paperboy, but none have ever been banned from a country before. That’s right, this weeks movie, Mikey from 1992, was actually banned in the UK. It stars Brian Bonsall, of Blank Check fame, as the psychotic little maniac Mikey. Mikey is a trouble child who goes from one adopted family to another and when things don’t go his way Mikey is ready to play. This kid is not only super crazy, he also video tapes and watches the murders he commits. Unlike most of the kids in these killer kid movies, Mikey is insanely smart and very quick on his feet when it comes to planning and killing on the fly. So while schedules have been a little crazy as of late, we still managed to get a brand new episode up. Though, this one was quite impromptu and only features Corey along with past guest Pat. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bmoviebreakdown/support
