On Play Me a Recipe, your favorite cooks will walk you through their most treasured recipes, offering all the insider tips, stories, and tricks you won't get from a written recipe—and you'll be right alongside them, every step of the way. If you're cooking along, here's the recipe we're making today. Go ahead and grab the ingredients below before starting the episode.RecipeMakes 16 brownies (8 to 10 milligrams THC per brownie)Cannabutter1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter1 gram quality cannabis flowerWeed brownies1/4 cup (21 grams) natural cocoa powder, plus more for the panCannabutter (above)1/2 cup (100 grams) chopped dark chocolate1 1/4 cups (250 grams) granulated sugar1 tablespoon molasses1 teaspoon vanilla extract1/4 teaspoon kosher salt2 large eggs3/4 cup (90 grams) all-purpose flour1/2 cup (57 grams) chopped toasted nuts (optional)Make the cannabutter, following the quantities listed above and my step-by-step guide linked here.Butter an 8x8-inch pan, then dust with cocoa. Heat the oven to 350°F (177°C).In a bain marie (or in the microwave in 10-second intervals), melt the cannabutter and dark chocolate. Remove the bowl from the heat, then add the sugar, molasses, vanilla, and salt.Add one egg at a time, mixing well after each. Beat for about 5 minutes, until a 5-second ribbon forms on the top of the batter when you lift the whisk. Stir in the chopped nuts (if you're using them). Sift or whisk the flour with the cocoa powder, then add to the chocolate mixture. Combine just until the flour disappears (don't overmix).Pour the batter into the pan and place in the center of the oven. Bake for about 25 minutes, until a glossy top forms and starts to crack. Keep an eye on the edges, they will firm up first. To check, insert a toothpick near the corner—it should have a few moist crumbs.Let cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before cutting into 16 brownies. (If you'd like—and if your pan isn't glass—you can plunge the pan into cold water immediately out of the oven. The temperature shock achieves a chewy crust while maintaining the gooey center, a tip I learned from Eric Kim.)Store the brownies in an airtight container for up to a week. For longer storage, cut and freeze the brownies, then warm up in the microwave or oven before serving. If you're considering enjoying this recipe, please consult and follow the legal restrictions for controlled substances in your state. Because there are so many variables with homemade edibles, go slowly. You may want to start with half a serving and determine your tolerance and ideal dose from there. And always wait a couple hours to feel the effects. Is there a recipe you'd like to hear us make? We've been through a lot this crazy year. We saw the conversation about cannabis go from “why do we need it”l to essential in an instant. I want to welcome all the new home growers who started growing this crazy year. Virtual Events Made butter with the Magical butter Machine, and didn't make a video, small kitchen and too many cooks. I've been putting butter in almost everything I eat or drink lately. Here's what I used. 21oz of clarified butter (3 tubs of 7oz each) 1 Tbsp of Lecithin per cup of butter 7.3g homegrown trim, maybe 15% THC hard to tell and 3.7g of Maui Wowie 19% THC For a total of 11g of cannabis at about 16% THC and that's what I based my math on. Decarboxylated it at 250 degrees F for 25min. I cover my baking sheet with foil, some people do this uncovered. Put butter, Lecithin and flower in the Magical butter Machine and set for 2hrs at 165 degrees F setting. Now for the math: The totals are rounded up. 1g = 1000mg 11g = 11,000mg 11,000 x 16% (THC) = 1,760mg of THC 1,760 divided by 21oz (butter) = 84mg THC per oz of butter or 18mg THC per tsp Each 7oz tub of butter has 586mg THC more or less. Strain of the Week: Strawberry Banana aka Strawnana - Banana Kush and the “Strawberry” phenotype of Bubble Gum, This flower had a nice sweet fruity flavor and aroma, I love a fruity bud. It came in at 22% THC, it was an indica leaning but not too bad. It was a nice level headspace, didn't rob my motivation the way some indicas in the 20's% can. If I was working it was easy to stay on task, I didn't get distracted or lose my train of thought. I did find it too mellow to hang out with friends, if I smoked more than 1 joint at a time it gave me couchlock. Autumn Brands From Leafly on Phenotype Two things influence the structural formation of any given cannabis plant: genetics and environment. The plant's genetic makeup, also called a genotype, acts as a blueprint for growth: it allows a spectrum of physical possibilities, but it is up to the environment to induce these characteristics. The physical expression of a genotype is referred to as a phenotype, which is simply defined as the traits that the environment pulls out from the plant's genetic code. Report from the cannabis front line: Voters in Arizona (nov 30, 2020), Montana (Jan 1, 2021), New Jersey (Jan 1, 2021) and South Dakota (July 1, 2021) approved measures legalizing recreational marijuana. Oregon decriminalizes the possession of small amounts of street drugs such as cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. I couldn't find when that goes or went in affect. Show Notes: Welcome to episode 95 of the show. Later I'll play a conversation I had with Omar Uribe. This week's show is a little different, there is no RFCF and the strain review isn't really a review. I hope everyone enjoyed the big game last week. A botany word of the week is “fertigation”. Strain of the Week: There's no strain review this week. I want to say a few words about SubCool instead, because he passed away a few days ago. He developed a lot of well known strains (Jack the Ripper, agent orange and my favorite The third dimension). I started talking to him in late 2018. He was one of the first people I started following him. I remember I reached out to him to tell him how much I liked the work he did on the 3D. We started talking soon after that and he agreed to come on the show. He was always really generous with his time with me and I appreciated the hell out of that. I did not know the man personally, I never met him, we only spoke on the phone. So I have no details about his death. Social Media: Pond-Zyme w/ barley question by @daves_not_here on IG: Enzyme products are added to hydro system to help battle root rot and to keep res clear of dead plant/organic matter. I use enzymes in my soil pile since I reuse my soil but I don't run hydro so my knowledge of it is limited. I don't use a name brand or the same one every time, since I use it for my soil I haven't found a big difference in formulas. It can replace expensive.Hygrozyme, prozyme, cannazyme.. Tip, dissolve in a gal of water for a day and then strain it before adding to res, just to make sure your not adding solids in that could clog and gunk things up. Business focused episode. The cannabis landscape is evolving quickly. It moves even faster in “pro small business” States that didn’t create an Oligarchy with high costs and low license caps. Our guest is Elbe from Elbe’s Edibles, the longest standing edible company in Oregon. We discuss their 10 Years experience in cannabis and why “crystal ball” predictions are hollow. The Terp market is like a flea market for weed, cheap flower and dabs too. Homeless life is crazy LA. Colbi wanted a profile where she could create content that's about smoking and Dabbing! If Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg had a Love child it would be Colbi. Does Martha Stewart smoke weed, Snoop Dogg hustles hard. Being versatile as a model is awesome, she books alot of work from people contacting her. Iowa's Governor Kim Reynolds will not legalize cannabis at all, she has vetoed bills, they arrested a soccer mom selling CBD. Iowa is very anit-weed, it is so stigmatized an illegal. Old Pal is decent but it is a good price point for the buck. Puffco is awesome and solid product. When you have a certain piece of glass you become connected with it. When you go into a dispensary and all the products look old and cheap. Jack loves Canal street in New York, he loves the Hustle and getting fake Oakleys and Raybans. Jack and Colbi don't like spliffs. Budtending is hard because old school stoners are looking for old strains or a product they set their mind to. Older smokers get frustrated and flustered when bud-tending, alot of stores cater to more exotic strains. You get the old school smokers who want an Haze, how can you be mean to a Bud-tender. Be yourself because their is room for everyone, we're all different and we can all grow and work together. Put yourself out there and take the risk. You don' to live with regret, if you don't do it you never know. You learn more from your failures than your wins. After nearly 25 years of taking prescription opiates to treat chronic pain caused by a severe car accident, a friend suggested that Michael Miller try cannabis. At the age of 54, he tried marijuana for the first time — and it changed his life.“I literally started crying heavily because I couldn't believe that I was being introduced to my body for the first time in 25 years and that put me on a mission,” Miller says on The Cannabis Enigma Podcast. “I flushed my pills I felt the duty and obligation to help others like me, and to pay it back like he helped me.”Today, Miller is a medical cannabis journalist, investor, businessman, and evangelist. But we wanted to talk to him about his personal story. From how he takes his cannabis during the day and what he uses to sleep at night, to what he does when he travels internationally, to how he first told his children that their father smokes marijuana — Michael Miller's story is one that any prospective medical cannabis patient should hear, and most current users can relate to.“I didn't tell my children for many years because I'm not a victim, and I'm not whining or blaming anybody, but I've learned sometimes you need to have a story to help others because then people will see that it's just Michael, it's not the conference host, it's not a speaker, I'm just a regular guy who has the same pains and ouwies like every other human being."Edited and mixed by Michael Schaeffer Omer-Man. Produced by Michael Schaeffer Omer-Man, Elana Goldberg, and Matan Weil. Music by Desca.

Julie Berliner is the Founder and CEO of Sweet Grass Kitchen, a Denver-based edible cannabis manufacturer founded in 2009. Sweet Grass Kitchen specializes in cannabutter-based edibles, and distributes to over 150 centers throughout Colorado. In addition to her role at Sweet Grass Kitchen, she is also a founding member and chair of the Cannabis Business Alliance Edibles Council. Julie has represented the edibles industry as a panelist on workgroups organized by the Marijuana Enforcement Division to develop policies on infused product serving size and potency levels and packaging. Julie graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in education and psychology in 2008. When a friend asked that her popular chocolate chip cookie recipe be infused with cannabis for sale at his dispensary, she decided to take a left turn and launched Sweet Grass Kitchen. The company’s products are infused with single strain, full-flower cannabis plant, grown in house to ensure a consistent, safe, and reliable crop-to-table confection.
