fWotD Episode 2854: Roswell incident Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles.The featured article for Wednesday, 26 February 2025 is Roswell incident.The Roswell incident is a conspiracy theory which alleges that the 1947 United States Army Air Forces balloon debris recovered near Roswell, New Mexico, was actually a crashed extraterrestrial spacecraft. Operated from the nearby Alamogordo Army Air Field and part of the top secret Project Mogul, the balloon was intended to detect Soviet nuclear tests. After metallic and rubber debris were recovered by Roswell Army Air Field personnel, the United States Army announced their possession of a "flying disc". This announcement made international headlines, but was retracted within a day. To obscure the purpose and source of the debris, the army reported that it was a conventional weather balloon.In 1978, retired Air Force officer Jesse Marcel revealed that the army's weather balloon claim had been a cover story, and speculated that the debris was of extraterrestrial origin. Popularized by the 1980 book The Roswell Incident, this speculation became the basis for long-lasting and increasingly complex and contradictory UFO conspiracy theories, which over time expanded the incident to include governments concealing evidence of extraterrestrial beings, grey aliens, multiple crashed flying saucers, alien corpses and autopsies, and the reverse engineering of extraterrestrial technology, none of which have any factual basis.In the 1990s, the United States Air Force published multiple reports which established that the incident was related to Project Mogul, and not debris from a UFO. Despite this and a general lack of evidence, many UFO proponents claim that the Roswell debris was in fact derived from an alien craft, and accuse the US government of a cover-up. The conspiracy narrative has become a trope in science fiction literature, film, and television. The problem with the article is that it comes nowhere close to solving the 77-year-old incident. In fact, Mantle's asserted resolution of the case is totally laughable, which beggars the question as to why MUFON would opt to publish it in the first place. The late Sheridan Cavitt, who served as a counterintelligence agent at the Roswell Army Airfield in 1947 during the famous crash of an apparent extraterrestrial vehicle, provided puzzling statements in an affidavit provided to the U.S. Air Force in 1994 in support of the false balloon coverup story. Cavitt stated he accompanied Maj. Jesse Marcel, the air base's top intelligence officer, when he drove to the Foster Ranch to investigate the UFO debris field discovered by rancher Mack Brazel, and knew immediately what he saw were remnants of a weather balloon. However, if he knew immediately it was a balloon, why did he never tell anyone about it? Instead, the next day, the Army Air Force issued its famous press release touting its recovery of a flying disc on a ranch near Roswell. Also, an early 1990s incident is discussed that involved a strange meeting Jesse Marcel, Jr., had with an unnamed government official. The official took the younger Marcel to a secure room within the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., and informed him, among other things, that the Roswell event did, in fact, involve a crashed alien craft. Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, former director of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, recently intimated to UFO debunker, "reporter," and Pentagon shill Steven Greenstreet, that AARO plans to release a historical records report related to UFO cases "dating back to the 1940s, including Roswell," by March 7. Kirkpatrick last month commented that "metallic spy balloons" were responsible for the UFO crash in Roswell incident. Also, a recent article in the Liberation Times expressed concerns that there's a deliberate effort under way to delay publication of an upcoming op-ed from whistleblower David Grusch. The article speculated that the Defense Office of Prepublication and Security Review - which has to approve Grusch's op-ed before it can be published - has not yet cleared it, although it received it two months ago. Unnamed sources, according to the article, indicated that "DOPSR is being manipulated to facilitate Dr. Kirkpatrick's targeting of whistleblowers, while these whistleblowers remain silenced." 26 juli i år så vittnade Den förre underrättelseofficeren och visselblåsaren David Grusch under ed i kongressen i USA. Förutom Grusch så var det även två tidigare piloter David Fravor och Ryan Graves. Fokus låg på den tidigare underrättelseofficeren David Grusch som under den senaste tiden gett en rad intervjuer där han hävdar att han har information som visar att USA har minst tolv kraschade utomjordiska rymdskepp, tillvaratagna besättningsmedlemmar och insyn i den teknik som besökarna använder. Grusch har under 4 år har talat med 40 vittnen och tagit del av dokument och bilder. Det har hänt en del sedan Roswell 1947. Då Jesse Marcel (1907-1986) tvingades posera med en väderballong, en händelse som förföljde honom hela livet. Men Jesse släppte aldrig det han med egna ögon sett, känt och upplevt runt Roswell incidenten. Han förlöjligades under många år. Kanske fick han ändå upprättelse mot slutet, han intervjuades 1978 av ufologen Stanton Friedman (1934-2019) Jag tänker att båda dessa män hade uppskattat det som utspelade sig i kongressen i slutet av juli i år. THE UFO CRASH AT ROSWELL 2022 marks the 75th anniversary of an incident, where believers say an extraterrestrial spacecraft crashed in Roswell New Mexico. With scattered debris and possibly alien bodies – being recovered by the US government, the Roswell Incident marked the beginning of a national and worldwide cover-up. What really happened at Roswell, and why does this mystery still attract such interest and controversy, decades later? The Roswell incident begins on 24 June 1947 when pilot Kenneth Arnold was flying over the Cascade Mountains of Washington State in the US, helping to search for a crashed military aircraft. He saw 9 crescent-shaped objects flying in formation at a height of around 3km (10,000ft) and an estimated speed of approximately 1,900km/h: seemingly impossible at the time. Arnold described the movement of the objects as being, "like a saucer would if you skipped it over water. The media got hold of the story, coined the phrase flying saucer and a modern mystery was born This wasn't the first sighting of what we now call a UFO (unidentified flying object), but it was the first to capture the public imagination, making news headlines around the world. More reports were received, suggesting these sightings were commonplace but had previously gone unreported. On 7 July a local rancher named ‘Mac' Brazel contacted the sheriff in Roswell to say he'd discovered strange debris spread over the ranch. He'd found it days earlier but hadn't thought much of it until the stories about flying saucers emerged. Thinking there might be a connection and guessing something might have crashed during a recent storm, he alerted the authorities. He'd brought some samples of the debris, and when the sheriff contacted the nearby Army airbase, intelligence officer Jesse Marcel went to the crash site with Brazel and recovered more debris. Nowadays, with the 24/7 news cycle, internet, social media and an activist community of UFO researchers, such a claim – and U-turn – would no doubt cause controversy and conspiracy on a grand scale.

In July of 1947 the front papers all across the west coast reported the US military had recovered a crashed flying saucer only to recant, owing the crashed material to nothing more than a weather balloon. The story would remain dormant for 40 years until UFO researchers discovered the event, revisited it, and unearthed a treasure trove of eye-witness account to perhaps the biggest coverup off all time. The Crash Near Roswell: An unidentified flying object crashed on a ranch northwest of Roswell, New Mexico, sometime during the first week of July 1947. Rancher W.W. “Mack” Brazel said later he found debris from the crash as he and the son of Floyd and Loretta Proctor rode their horses out to check on sheep after a fierce thunderstorm the night before. Brazel said that as they rode along, he began to notice unusual pieces of what seemed to be metal debris scattered over a large area. Upon further inspection, he said, he saw a shallow trench several hundred feet long had been gouged into the ground. Brazel said he was struck by the unusual properties of the debris and, after dragging large pieces of it to a shed, he took some of it over to show the Proctors. Mrs. Proctor, who later moved from the ranch to a house closer to town, said she remembers Brazel showing up with the strange material. The Proctors told Brazel he might be holding wreckage from an alien spacecraft — a number of UFO sightings had been reported in the United States that summer — or a government project, and that he should report the incident to Chaves County Sheriff George Wilcox. A day or two later, Brazel drove into Roswell, the county seat, and reported the incident to Wilcox, who reported it to Maj. Jesse Marcel, intelligence officer for the 509th Bomb Group, stationed at Roswell Army Air Field. In their book, A History of UFO Crashes, UFO researchers Don Schmitt and Kevin Randle say their research shows military radar had been tracking an unidentified flying object in the skies over southern New Mexico for four days. On the night of July 4, 1947, radar indicated the object had gone down about 30-40 miles northwest of Roswell. The book says eyewitness William Woody, who lived east of Roswell, said he remembered being outside with his father the night of July 4, 1947, when he saw a brilliant object plunge to the ground. The debris site was closed for several days while the wreckage was cleared, and Schmitt and Randle say that when Woody and his father tried to locate the area of the crash they had seen, Woody said they were stopped by military personnel who ordered them out of the area. Last year a $10,000 was offered to anyone that definitively decipher the 1947 memo captured on a picture of Maj. Jesse Marcel during the infamous news conference where he claimed a weather balloon was the cause of the hysteria at Roswell. Denice Marcel is the granddaughter of Jesse Marcel, the intelligence officer at the Roswell Army Air Field in 1947 who was the first person from the military to handle the debris found in the desert outside of Roswell which some believe was an extraterrestrial spacecraft. Denice's father, Jesse Marcel Jr., also handled some of the material, and both Jesse Sr. and Jesse Jr. say that the materials were not merely from weather or test balloons. Jesse Marcel, III BIO: Is the son of Jesse Marcel Jr, and grandson of Jesse Marcel, Sr. who was the man in charge of the wreckage at Roswell New Mexico in 1947. Over the past 40 years, Marcel Jr. appeared on TV shows, documentaries and radio shows; was interviewed for magazine articles and books, and traveled the world lecturing about his experiences in Roswell. Jesse is also a member of the Witnesses at the disclosure Citizens Hearing. Now Jesse is working on some groundbreaking tech which is something we have ALL wanted to see happen in our lifetime.. Jesse Marcel Jr. is a retired, full-bird Colonel, who served as a flight surgeon for 18-months in Iraq. He spent 38 years serving his country with honor and loyalty. IMarcel joined the US Navy in 1962 and was assigned to the USS Renville (APA 227) and shortly thereafter participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis, attached to combat units as a member of ship's company. The Renville then sailed for West Pac and on to the South East Pacific Area where he received combat training in case of enemy attack on the ship. After the West Pac tour, he completed his specialty training in Otolaryngology at the Naval Hospital, San Diego, California. He retired from the Navy in July of 1971 and entered private practice in Helena, Montana. In 1973 he joined the Montana Army National Guard, and went through helicopter flight training as a flight surgeon at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, and earned his wings in 1981. During his career in the National Guard, he was appointed State Surgeon of the State of Montana and retired from the military the second time in August of 1996 on his 60th birthday. The Iraqi war required him to be called back to active duty in October of 2004 shortly after his 68th birthday where he served as flight surgeon for the 189th Attack Helicopter Battalion. He flew more than 225 hrs of combat duty while in Iraq, being discharged again from active duty in December of 2005 to the Ready Reserve. By then he had logged more than 3,000 hours of flight time. Most people know Mr.Marcel as the son of Major Jesse Marcel who collected the UFO crash debris from the Roswell of 1947, he will talk about the th material he handled as a young boy, and we will get his opinions on extraterrestrial life, and more March 4th 10pm EST.
