With one million followers on Instagram, Jeremy was the first food personality managed by Jay-Z's Roc Nation. “With inspiring openness and vulnerability, Jeremy shares his hard-earned wisdom of how to combat the established rules of masculinity, channel our anxiety into bold, new ideas, and grow as flawed, yet hopeful human beings. Falling Upwardsis for any creative ready to heal.”—Yung Pueblo, poet and #1 New York Times bestselling author of Lighter Acclaimed entrepreneur Jeremy Fall shares how to turn fresh ideas into an authentic career, challenge the old standards of masculinity, and address mental health without shame Jeremy Fall grew up blocks away from LA's infamous Skid Row with a single mom who managed a restaurant to make ends meet. At night, he'd go into the kitchen and prepare elaborate and comforting snacks—the only way he knew to calm his anxious, OCD mind. As an adult, Jeremy opened fourteen restaurants around the country, collaborated with Quincy Jones, made the “Forbes 30 Under 30” list in 2020, and became the first restaurateur to be represented by Jay Z's Roc Nation. Having built a business persona based on wild, borderless creativity, he feared that treating his mental health issues might come at the cost of his drive and creativity—but that didn't happen. Determined to destigmatize mental health for men, Falling Upwards blends Jeremy's personal narrative with practical takeaways, outlining core paradigms like The Studio 54 Effect, Paperclipping, and The Power of Basic to help us harness our craziest, most out-there loose balloon ideas and make them work for us—without giving up on our own mental health. In this episode, Chris + Jess go on a deep dive with Jeremy. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/spiritualised/message

It has been a minute! We have taken about 18 months off to collectively take a breath and work through all those Covid variants – Delta, Omicron, and whatever is happening now. But there does seem to be a renewed optimism as we transition to the fall and back to school. New York City just lifted its subway mask mandate and our children don't have to wear masks in schools anymore. It seems we can now re-emerge into our new normal world with fresh eyes and renewed perspective. The timing seems right for more wisdom and more lessons. Since we last connected a lot has happened – you and I have changed more than we probably recognize. We are growing and improving more and more all the time. Better at being a spouse, or a parent. Better at being a colleague or friend. We are certainly learning lessons from these past 2.5 years that will stay with us for a lifetime. I recently heard my pastor say that wisdom is knowledge applied, skills for living well. A simple, yet stunning definition of wisdom that has become imprinted on me. I have been challenged and inspired by this idea of applying knowledge to life. The experiences we all have become wisdom when we learn from them. And when we let our greatest difficulties, obstacles, and losses become our greatest educators – it is then that we start to see as my friend Lindy might say - life as abundance and not scarcity. Richard Rohr is a Franciscan Friar who leads the Center for Contemplative Action in New Mexico is one of the deepest thinkers I know when it comes to wisdom. In Rohr's book Falling Upwards, he shares an insight from Carl Jung that life comes in two halves. When I read this I was so overwhelmed by the idea I literally had to put the book down and go outside. Because the idea simply floored me. I will paraphrase here, but in short it goes like this… Life comes in two halves. The first half is about building a container – everything we achieve, accumulate, assemble and add to our lives in order to build a beautiful, identifiable, and durable container. The second half of life begins when we understand what it is we are to put in it. Beyond container building, but knowing what to pour out and what to pour into our collective containers. And I believe a lot of that is the collective wisdom – the skills for living well. This season we will have 10 new episodes that will come out like paychecks – every two weeks. So you have a week to process and think about the lesson that someone has taken a lifetime to learn – only seems appropriate. So again, I hope you will join us on the journey. Tell a friend, I hope you will subscribe and rate and review the podcast on Apple or wherever you listen to podcasts. I hope you will listen to all 10 episodes because this is what I know - this season will challenge and inspire, and these conversations will shape us and grow us. Our perspectives will expand and our hearts will be full. This is where knowledge is applied. This is where we learn skills for living well. An inventory of wisdom. This is Season 2 of the Everything is Lessons Podcast.

We're talking today with Tucker Walsh, an Emmy Award-winning documentary director and photojournalist who has collaborated with many of the world's leading thinkers and doers and most iconic brands. As Tucker reached the highest levels of career and personal success, he felt what he describes as an underlying sense of "there's something wrong with me." The happiness and satisfaction he expected with fulfilling his life's ambitions were missing. Tucker then embarked on a journey of discovery, still ongoing, that led him to the profound realization that even in the darkest of times, he is, and always has been, exactly where he needs to be in a life-long journey of growth and expanding awareness. Tucker describes the practices and beliefs that give him the faith and trust to face any risks and fears with a deep sense of inner guidance and wellbeing in his still unfolding life of transformation. And I think holding both of those simultaneously and trying to navigate my way through those strong emotions and strong cosmic forces, so to speak, is one of the ways I stay present.” (10:49) (Tucker)“Perfection doesn't mean that it's lacking anything bad. ‘Perfection' with a capital ‘P,' includes the bad and the horrible and the evil because that creates good.” (18:35) (Tucker)“The pain of recognizing that I don't actually love myself and that I don't actually know how to love myself created so much compassion that, in that moment, I finally learned the first baby step as to how to love myself. And so, it took the most painful thing to create the most beautiful thing.” (35:41) (Tucker)“I realized that's not helping anybody. Me being in a place of privilege and then not even appreciating and enjoying the privilege is actually worse than having the privilege of realizing how lucky I am.” (1:03:20) (Tucker)“If we can create a world where diversity is not just about your race, or your skin color, or what you practice, but diversity is about celebrating the fact that spirit and love is showing up in everything at all times, to me that's what's maybe a little utopian and radical.” (1:10:36) (Tucker)“I'm not any wiser than I was a couple of years ago. Who I was a couple of years ago was exactly as wise as I needed to be for that moment in time. I was home at my dad's house recently for a couple of days and I pulled out an old journal from three years ago. I read the entire journal and I was just weeping tears because everything that I had longed for and was feeling into and wishing for in that journal has all come true. It's all manifested, it's all happened. And, that wisdom that I had at that time was exactly what I needed to get me to where I am right now. And the wisdom I have right now is exactly what I need to get me to where I'm going.” (1:23:35) (Tucker) RESOURCES MENTIONED Portals of Perception WebsiteAviv's LinkedIn Aviv's TwitterAviv's WebsiteTucker's WebsiteNature and the Human Soul

Why does Hashem send a soul down into this world if the only purpose is to return to shomayim? If an aveira is so bad then why does Hashem create aveiros to begin with? In this shiur, Rav Burg explains how sometimes what appears to be falling downwards is actually falling upwards. Within some of the worst moments of our lives, within some of our worst decisions, there is an opportunity to get down to our bare essence and discover a dimension of self that we never knew existed. In these moments we come to realize that we have been falling upwards the entire time.
2020 has been a year of fear, brokenness and darkness for many of us, but, like the life of Jacob in the bible God can bless us in our brokenness and deliver us in the midst of the darkness. As we come to the end of the year we all have the burden of some sort of limp in our step, but it may not be a symbol of being beaten but blessed.
Sustainable development can only be in complete harmony with Nature, Environment and Ecology. When you take one step towards a perpetual growth and you don't want to keep a plan-B, you've got to prepare for going only forward and that is possible when the forces of Nature stand by your side and help you propel forward. Ecology is not against Economics, if your road map is correct. Thus with a restored ecological balance of Water, Soil & Air, when you plan your economics in harmony with ecology, you fall upwards. Ecological Economics to solve the global crisis is the key to sustainable development and solving the global crisis simultaneously like Climate Change, Global Warming, Water Crisis, Food Grain Crisis, Air Pollution, Water Pollution, and Wasteland reclamation. Live Tue. Jan. 31st, 2017 8pm EST on Para-X-Radio.com Andrieh Vitimus and Jason M. Colwell welcome Antero Alli back for a second week, because we are so impressed by his work. Antero will be talking to us about his work on The Eight-Circuit Brain. The Eight-Circuit Brain advances and expands the material in Alli’s groundbreaking book, Angel Tech, a compendium of techniques and practical applications based on Dr. Timothy Leary’s 8-Circuit Brain model. After more than twenty years of research and experimentation, Antero’s earlier findings are significantly updated and enriched in this new body of work. In 1977 Antero was inspired by the Paratheatre of Jerzy Grotowski and over the next four decades, he combined his early theatre experience and training (see below) towards the creation of his own paratheatre medium — as documented in his book, “Towards an Archeology of the Soul” (Vertical Pool, 2003), in four videos (1992-2012), and in academia by Nicoletta Isar, Professor at the Institute of Art History,Copenhagen University (2008). Between 1975 and 2005, Antero wrote, directed, produced and performed in numerous experimental theatre productions. In 2005, Antero stopped creating theatre and wrote and directed a series of feature-length art films — including “The Greater Circulation” (2005; 93 min) a critically acclaimed cinematic treatment of Rainer Maria Rilke’s “Requiem for a Friend“, “The Invisible Forest” (2008; 111 min) featuring the radical ideas of French Surrealist, Antonin Artaud, “To Dream of Falling Upwards“(2011; 120 min), exploring the occult worlds of rural and urban sorcery and “The Book of Jane” (2013; 115 min.), an urban fable of Feminine initiation. In late 2015 Antero ended his 23-year era of filmmaking and returned to his roots in experimental theatre in Portland Oregon where he also continues his paratheatre group work. Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother, HappyThankYouMorePlease, Liberal Arts) - on acting, spirituality, creativity & much more.for full shownotes & links to everything mentioned look below...I've been recording this podcast in my bedroom since 2013. I've recorded over 150 hours of conversation, connected with people all over the world, and made real life friends through my guests and listeners. I've gleaned an abundance of wisdom from the diverse group of guests I've had the opportunity to uninterruptedly speak with people I deeply admire and respect, getting to ask them anything I was curious about, an opportunity I don't take for granted. At 22 years old, freshly out of college I never would have imaged how much a purely creative passion project would mean to me almost four years later or how it would have grown.I feel like a completely different person now at 26 to who I was back then when I started but one thing remains, my favorite movie is still a movie my college boyfriend showed me in 2010 called HappyThankYouMorePlease. This film reminded, me even if only for that hour and forty minutes, that with gratitude the universe is infinitely abundant. I told everyone about the film and I re-watched it so often that the dvd (remember those?) my boyfriend gave me wore out. Two years later, probably sick of rewatching the same movie on repeat he showed me a new movie called Liberal Arts he claimed I'd like equally as much since it had the same writer, director, and star as the first movie I loved. He was right. This film was timely since we'd just graduated from college and were wrestling with the concept of adulthood which Liberal Arts tackles. These movies led me to explore their creator the man both in front and behind the camera: Josh Radnor. I realized Josh was was a really famous guy from starring in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, I also learned he was midwestern like me, a meditator like me, and a deeply self-aware, wise, and kind human being (like i hope to become). I became as fascinated with him as a person as I was by his work. He inspired me, he made me think about things like religion, creativity, and writing in a new way and above all his insight inspired me to want to be better at being myself and expressing myself creatively. Whenever anyone would ask who my dream podcast guest would be I would jokingly say Josh, not knowing the slightest how I could even get a hold of him. It seemed like a pipe dream, but long story short um it happened and today you're hearing my conversation with one of my favorite artists, someone whose work is super meaningful to me and above all someone from what I can tell is genuinely kind, generous, and wise. Enjoy my a conversation with Josh Radnor. We recorded this via skype while he was filming a tv show in Richmond. He was right. I fell hard for Liberal Arts too. This film was timely since we'd just graduated from college and were wrestling with the concept of adulthood which Liberal Arts directly and beautifully tackles. These movies led me to explore their creator the man both in front and behind the camera: Josh Radnor. This week, we're revisiting an epsiode about the science and history of lighter-than-air flight. We'll spend the hour with biographer and science writer Richard Holmes, to talk about his book "Falling Upwards: How We Took to the Air." We'll talk about the technology of 19th century ballooning, and the pioneering men and women who took to the skies and changed our view of the world. And we'll share a list of science-based charities to help you spread evidence-based holiday cheer.
Biographer Richard Holmes shares his musical passions with Michael Berkeley, and his fascination with opium dreams, telescopes and balloons. Best known for his biographies of the Romantics - most notably Shelley and Coleridge - Richard Holmes has won just about every literary prize going. In recent years he has moved towards the history of science with his book The Age of Wonder, which was hailed widely as 'the non-fiction book of the year'. And his most recent book, Falling Upwards, all about the daring and frequently terrifying adventures of the pioneers of hot air ballooning, is just coming out in paperback. Richard's musical choices range from 13th century Gregorian chant and French pastoral songs to Bernstein by way of composer and astronomer William Herschel. Producer: Jane Greenwood A Loftus production for BBC Radio 3.
76: David Shapiro's contemporary poets are Keats and Stevens. Listen to this episode to learn how this prodigy of the violin and poetry showed his teenage work to Frank O'Hara or to hear what he means by "Proust on the side of the starless chaos of the social, and Kafka on the starless eyes of the interior." His latest collection of poetry is titled, "New & Selected Poems (1965-2006)." In this episode, he plays his bat mitzvah violin piece and reads "Falling Upwards."
