Today's interview is with Natasha Scripture. Natasha is an author, poet, health coach and former aid worker. As an emergency spokesperson for the United Nations, Natasha covered humanitarian crises around the world, including conflicts and natural disasters in Ethiopia, Haiti, Libya, and Pakistan. Before the UN, she worked as a writer, producer and editor for a variety of organizations, including the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera English, TED, National Geographic and Condé Nast Publications. She has been interviewed by CNN, ABC News, BBC Radio, the Irish Examiner and Women’s Health (Australia), among other news outlets, been published in the New York Times, The Telegraph, Marie Claire, Glamour UK, The Sydney Morning Herald, Huffington Post, The Boston Globe, the New York Post and The Atlantic, among other publications, and been featured in Marie Claire, The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Sunday Times Style magazine. Natasha has a Masters of Science in Gender and Development Studies from the London School of Economics, a Bachelors degree from New York University and a health coach certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She is certified in Ayurveda Foundations from the California College of Ayurveda and has studied the Ayurvedic art of health and healing with Dr. Vasant Lad, founder of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Natasha has lived in several different countries and travels frequently. Yet no matter where she is in the world, she seeks to inspire and empower women with her writing and storytelling. In an adventurous and emotionally charged memoir, MAN FAST: A Memoir, Natasha Scripture asks herself: What is my purpose? Recognizing her privileged upbringing, Natasha wanted to connect with people and the world in a whole new way. Fed up with her demanding career, and the pressure to “settle down,” and “find a man,” Natasha decides to go on a man fast. Yes, it’s exactly as it sounds. After the death of her father, she realized she needed to do some soul-searching, to turn inward, and to do that, she needed to do what you could call a cleanse, ridding herself of anything standing in the way of her self-discovery. Men were at the top of the list. Natasha spreads her spiritual journey across four continents and MAN FAST takes her from meditating in an Ayurvedic ashram in southern India to toiling on a vineyard on Mount Etna to going on a solo-safari in a game reserve in southern Tanzania (where she also marries herself— yes, it’s a thing). With chapters tied to actionable themes—Allowing, Surrendering, Committing, Connecting, and Being—her book is an antidote to a culture that prizes finding the right man and settling down into a conventional pattern over taking the time to know and live and love your true self.Resources Mentioned In The EpisodeNatasha's book: https://www.amazon.com/Man-Fast-Memoir-Natasha-Scripture/dp/1542091187Website: http://natashascripture.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/natashascripture/My book: https://www.amazon.com/Use-Your-Difference-Make-Cross-Cultural/dp/1119590698/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

“I would rather not get married than marry into a bad, compromising situation just for the sake of being married because I guarantee it would be more miserable. And that’s so hard to see when you’re single!” Do you find yourself wondering, “Is this a deal-breaker in our relationship?” Do you fear that, if you break up with your boyfriend or girlfriend, you’ll never find anyone else? Have the rose-colored glasses come off and you realize he or she is not the perfect mate you thought they were? Does it seem like your relationship and personal dreams are in conflict? Break-ups are hard. They’re the worst, especially in a culture that glorifies the wrong vision of love. Lisa Cotter, co-author of Dating Detox and co-host of the popular How-To Catholic Podcast, is giving us a 1-2 punch of philosophical know-how and practical advice today. We discuss the intellect, will, and passions and how they interact to discern EVERY decision. Lisa illuminates how to handle chastity struggles, how to know if you’re being used or loved, and practical ways to build up and operate from God’s vision of love rather than the world’s tainted vision. So much good stuff in here, even for an old married dame like myself ;) Topics Discussed Getting honest with yourself and seeing your partner honestly Handling fear of being single Discerning personal goals and your relationship Projecting virtues that don’t exist and what to do when you “wake up” Resources Dating Detox: 40 Days of Perfecting Love in an Imperfect World How-To Catholic Podcast Deacon Gerard Anthony on Called and Caffeinated Podcast Lisa's website: madetomagnify.com
