Big Idea: Can you read the mind of Christ?1 Corinthians 2:10-16I. Connecting with God at the spiritual level. 1 Corinthians 2:10-11Now God has revealed these things to us by the Spirit, since the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except his spirit within him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.II. Choosing which spirit you're following.1 Corinthians 2:12-14Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people. But the person without the Spirit does not receive what comes from God's Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually.III. Knowing that you know him.1 Corinthians 2:15-16The spiritual person, however, can evaluate everything, and yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. For who has known the Lord's mind, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.Next Steps: Believe: I need to meet the Holy Spirit for the first time. Become: I will get to know the Holy Spirit more this week. Be Sent: I want people to see the Holy Spirit at work in me this week.Discussion Questions: Who do you know more than anyone else in the world? Can you read their mind?On a scale of 1-10, how much deeper did your relationship with Jesus grow last week?Describe what makes you different than every other person on earth. Are all people spiritual?  Is it possible that some are not at all spiritual? Big Idea: Praying as Spiritual Warfare. Daniel 10:10-14 When prayers shoot straight to the heart of God. Suddenly, a hand touched me and set me shaking on my hands and knees. He said to me, “Daniel, you are a man treasured by God. Understand the words that I'm saying to you. Stand on your feet, for I have now been sent to you.” After he said this to me, I stood trembling. “Don't be afraid, Daniel,” he said to me, “for from the first day that you purposed to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your prayers were heard. I have come because of your prayers. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me after I had been left there with the kings of Persia. Now I have come to help you understand what will happen to your people in the last days, for the vision refers to those days.” I. Do spiritual work through passionate prayer 2 Corinthians 10:3–6              We are human, but we don't wage war as humans do. We use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient. II. Do spiritual warfare through persistent prayer Lk 18:1-8  Now he told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not give up. “There was a judge in a certain town who didn't fear God or respect people. And a widow in that town kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.' “For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don't fear God or respect people, yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice, so that she doesn't wear me out by her persistent coming.' ” Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. Will not God grant justice to his elect who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay helping them? I tell you that he will swiftly grant them justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” III. Be a spiritual warrior through powerful prayer Rev 12:11  They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; for they did not love their lives to the point of death. Next Steps:  Believe:  I prayed for Jesus to change me for the first time today. Become: I will lay open my soul before I pray this week.  Be Sent:  I will pray for one person every day this year.  Discussion Questions:  Who prayed for your soul before Jesus saved you? What was the last prayer that God answered for you? Can you describe how you engaged in spiritual warfare last week? Have you ever given up on your prayers because they didn't seem to make a difference? On a scale of 1-10, how passionate have your prayers been lately? Who will you pray for every day this year? Vow to pray for one soul this year.

Just Fishing, 3 of 4 from September 15th, 2024 “Following Jesus' mission means being treated like Jesus.” Matthew 10 by Michael Lockstampfor (@miklocks) SUMMARY Following Christ isn't always comfortable - it often leads to conflict and opposition. Yet, we're called to be 'fishers of men,' interrupting the ordinary with God's extraordinary purpose. In Matthew 10, we're challenged to embrace Jesus' mission with courage and conviction. The imagery of fishing from the fish's perspective offers a profound insight: people may resist the gospel, but that doesn't mean we're doing something wrong. We're encouraged to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves, advancing the kingdom despite persecution. The key message is clear: centering our identity on Jesus gives us the strength to face any opposition. We're reminded that we're of immense value to God, who knows even the number of hairs on our heads. This teaching urges us to reorder our priorities, putting Christ above all else, even family ties. As we engage in this mission, we're promised that those who receive us will be blessed. It's a call to step out in faith, knowing that following Jesus' mission means being treated like Jesus Himself. Just Fishing, 2 of 4 from September 8th, 2024 “Jesus entrusts His mission to us, together.” John 4:27-42 by Michael Lockstampfor (@miklocks) SUMMARY Sometimes our spiritual lives can feel stale, like opening a bag of chips that's lost its crunch but Jesus invites us into a fresh, living relationship with Him. He offers 'living water' that satisfies our deepest thirsts and transforms us from the inside out. In this message we are reminded us that Jesus' heart is for all people - those we like and those we tend to avoid. The Samaritan woman's excitement about her encounter with Jesus led her to share with others, showing us that we don't need to have all the answers to share our faith - we just need to be excited about what Jesus is doing in our lives. Big Idea: You can't survive on borrowed faith. Genesis 24:1-49 1. We all start with borrowed faith. Genesis 24: 1-9 "Abraham was now old, getting on in years, and the Lord had blessed him in everything. Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his household who managed all he owned, “Place your hand under my thigh, and I will have you swear by the Lord, God of heaven and God of earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I live, but will go to my land and my family to take a wife for my son Isaac.” The servant said to him, “Suppose the woman is unwilling to follow me to this land? Should I have your son go back to the land you came from?” Abraham answered him, “Make sure that you don't take my son back there..." 2. Next comes a step of faith.   Genesis 24: 10-14 "The servant took ten of his master's camels, and with all kinds of his master's goods in hand, he went to Aram-naharaim, to Nahor's town. At evening, the time when women went out to draw water, he made the camels kneel beside a well outside the town. “Lord, God of my master Abraham,” he prayed, “make this happen for me today, and show kindness to my master Abraham..." 3. Then it becomes your own faith.  Genesis 24: 15-26 "Before he had finished speaking, there was Rebekah—daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor—coming with a jug on her shoulder. Now the girl was very beautiful, a virgin—no man had been intimate with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jug, and came up. Then the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please let me have a little water from your jug.” She replied, “Drink, my lord.” She quickly lowered her jug to her hand and gave him a drink..." 4. Finally, you have faith to loan others.    Genesis 24: 27-46 "The girl ran and told her mother's household about these things. Now Rebekah had a brother named Laban, and Laban ran out to the man at the spring. As soon as he had seen the ring and the bracelets on his sister's wrists, and when he had heard his sister Rebekah's words—“The man said this to me!”—he went to the man. He was standing there by the camels at the spring. Laban said, “Come, you who are blessed by the Lord. Why are you standing out here? I have prepared the house and a place for the camels.” So the man came to the house, and the camels were unloaded..." Next Steps: Believe: I need to start my journey of faith today. Become: I will live out my faith this week.  Be Sent: I will let someone borrow my faith this week. Discussion Questions: Who first loaned you their faith? Can you get into heaven on someone else's faith?  Back up your answer using Scripture.  What was your first big step of faith? At what point did your faith become your own? How similar is your faith to that of your parents? Who is the last person you “loaned” your faith to? Pray for the opportunity to loan someone your faith this week.

You might think together about the way comparison can foster a sense of competition, and the way a secure identity and shared mission dispels it.What impact does a posture/perspective of thankfulness have on the community as a whole? In what ways are Paul's words to the Philippians here instructive to us today?Practice:Make thankfulness a habit. If you find identifying what you are thankful for difficult then this is a good thing for you to try (e.g. maybe you don't feel thankful for anything right now, so trying to name something seems disingenuous?). It's interesting that is actually in the attempted articulation of things that we are grateful for that can sometimes help us to experience a feeling of thankfulness. If you're willing to give it a try, here are a few ideas how you could put this into practice this week:As you go on your daily walk, name something to God that you are thankful for today. Rather than naming something general (like 'my work', or 'my friends'), try to be as specific as possible, like a specific experience, or a specific thing about your work or family you are thankful for.Ask a trusted friend to ask you once a week; 'What are you thankful for today?' Take your time in answering, and it's okay to need to speak it out before you figure out what you are actually thankful for.Send a text, write an email (or a letter!), or make a call to say thank you to someone (for something specific that you are actually thankful to them for). And then add it to your schedule to make a habit of doing this each week as we step through Philippians.
