Not my words, I simply encourage you to read the Bible. Study for yourself. Many people don't read the Bible, they just repeat what they've heard someone else say. I learnt that a lot of what people say is scripture, can't be found in the Bible. It's true! If you get into the Word of God for yourself you will learn His ways. Many people choose to take the Word or their perception of it and use it how thy want for their own self gratification. Most things people call gifts of God are not gifts, they are talents and abilities. Yet, people truly believe those things are of God when clearly in His Word, He is against those things. Those types of people fool themselves. Many people will lose their souls by believing what isn't true. Many people profess Christ but it's a lie. Most people truly love the world more than they love Jesus. It's the greatest reason many are falling away. Individuals don't have any roots, and because of it, people go whatever way the wind blows. It's very sad. While many are lying, faking, and pretending, people are getting further away from Jesus as they partake in the ways of the world. It's in vain to live pleasing man because man's knees will someday bow too! The only way is Jesus! Pretending you love Him when you don't, means nothing to Him. The wisdom of the world is unstable and unreliable, but the majority of people today, including many within the church put their trust in it.  A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways and the man who attempts to follow after Jesus Christ and trust in the wisdom of the world will live an unstable life. The wisdom of God is Jesus Christ Himself! This wisdom is a mystery to the world we live in.  This wisdom comes to us through the Holy Spirit as we walk in reverence with our Savior and Lord. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.The wisdom of God is pure, peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy, and good fruits, unwavering and without hypocrisy! The wisdom of the world is earthly, natural, and demonic. Are you living according to the wisdom from above?!

Control or the lack of it creates such anxiety and fear in our lives. Even when we have done all that we can to create a safe and secure situation, we know living in the world we live in, we are never in complete control. The more we feel the control slipping through our fingertips, the more we try to control the things and people in front of us.  The level of control in our lives indicates the level of faith we have or do not have in the God who is truly in control of everything around us. Faith is that which is hoped for, the conviction of things not yet seen. So, how much do we truly live by faith, and how much do we persist in wanting to control the outcomes? Is it any wonder why the Lord tells us repeatedly, to fear not, and wait upon the Lord?

True wisdom will always be consistent with God's Word.

Finishing out the Profiles In Courage series, we are looking at 1 Kings 18 and the encounter of Elijah with the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel.  This interaction is a glimpse into the faith of one of the Old Testament's most notable prophets.  Yet the Book of James reminds us "Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth." (James 5:17)  As much as we may think Elijah was a super-human believer, he really had a nature just like ours.  Because of this, we can know that our faith in God to do the miraculous can and should be just like Elijah's.  The God who intervened on Elijah's behalf still moves on our behalf.  Elijah's faith didn't question the odds, he drew a line in the sand (trust God or not), and his obedience put God on display.  

This is not about exposing the darkness of this world, for that darkness has become brash and unashamed to live out in the open every day. We as followers of Jesus Christ need to expose the darkness that we have allowed to remain in our own hearts and lives. This is about the desires that are naturally ours by God's creation but those in which we attempt to satisfy outside of God's will and design. Our flesh and spirit are in opposition to one another, and if we allow our flesh to choose the means of satisfying our personal desires we will find ourselves living in the darkness that comes from our sinful choices. Exposure is never a comfortable thing, but we have the grace of God that is sufficient for us to overcome the darkness that remains in our hearts.This is not an easy journey, but it is the only journey to our freedom and peace.

I'm really excited to take the next few weeks of the podcast to jump into the Book of James.  James is a book that is sort of a New Testament answer to the Book of Proverbs.  There's much in terms of action steps of faith.  Much in terms of wisdom and acting upon the wisdom of the Lord, not man.  "Authentic faith" is a phrase I think of when I read James.  He challenges us to not just hear the word, but to do something with it.  Today's episode sets up some of the context and then dives into some of the themes central to chapter 1.

The bottom line is it's either one or the other. There's no fence to straddle, period! if you're for the world it's yours for the taking. If you're for Jesus you won't want the world, period! This isn't a have it your way and still receive the gift of Heaven. We must live according to God's Word not our own! There is criteria we must follow. The devil makes the world looks good, but believe me it's deadly!

To give up this world doesn't mean a life of peaches and cream. You will still have problems. The only people who are trouble free are in the cemetary. However, your eyes will open and you will see people and things differently. To live for the Lord means you become a new creature in Christ. Salvation is free! Don't gain the world only to lose your soul!!
