November 15, 2025 Daily Devotional: “Worthy of It All” Revelation 4:11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” This must be the anthem in heaven "You are worthy of it all"! But it is more than a song lyric; it is the fundamental truth that drives all existence and all worship. This verse pulls back the curtain on heaven, revealing the ceaseless, passionate adoration paid to God. The elders and living creatures don't just feel like worshipping; they declare the factual basis for God's worthiness. Their praise is built on a magnificent, two-part foundation.First, in The Act of Creation: "You created all things." Everything, from the galaxies to the microscopic life in your hand, owes its origin to Him. He didn't use pre-existing material; He spoke it into being. This act makes Him the unrivaled sovereign. Second, in The Power of Sustenance: "...and by your will they were created and have their being." This is the profound part. It means God didn't just wind the clock up and walk away. He is actively sustaining everything. Your next breath, the earth's orbit, the beating of your heart—it all continues only because of His will. Because He is the Source and the Sustainer of everything, He is supremely worthy to receive the totality of our praise: glory, honor, and power. He isn't just worthy of some of it; He is worthy of it all. Let's Acknowledge and Give Him glory by reflecting on His character. When we choose kindness over retaliation, patience over panic, or truth over convenience, we are giving God glory. Let's Honor Him by making Him our first thought in the morning, your guide in a difficult decision, and our peace in a troubling situation. Where we put our time, attention, and trust shows what we truly honor. In full Surrender to His Will, Give Him power by submitting ourlife to His plan. This means letting go of the need for personal control and trusting that the Creator, who sustains the universe by His will, has a perfect plan for our lives. Today, let Revelation 4:11 move from a declaration in heaven to a reality in our hearts. Recognize the intentionality of our own existence and offer the Creator the full measure of our being—because He is truly worthy of it all. Let us reflect on what our response must be. When we say God is worthy of "it all," what exactly are we referring to in our daily lives? In this Moment of Prayer is there a specific area of your life—like work, family, or health—that you'd like to dedicate to God's glory today?
To say “The Lord is my sustenance” is to acknowledge that everything we need — peace for the mind, strength for the journey, grace for our failures, hope for tomorrow — flows from Him.
The crowds who followed Jesus were hungry, but they were seeking a handout that would only last a day. Jesus responded with perhaps his most challenging, shocking, and life-giving teaching: He is the Bread of Life. As we consider John 6:47–59, we will consider how this Bread from heaven is a gift which sustains and nourishes those who receive it by faith. We consider three things from this text: 1. The Bread of Life is a Gift From Heaven (vv. 48–51) 2. The Bread of Life Sustains and Nourishes (vv. 57–58) 3. The Bread of Life Must Be Received (vv. 44–47)
Trusting God in TemptationIn the Lord's Prayer, we ask, “Lead us not into temptation.” Yet Scripture promises that God never tempts anyone (James 1:13). Why, then, do we pray this way? Peter helps us see the answer. He once boldly declared he would never deny Jesus. Jesus warned him that Satan asked to sift Peter. Christ predicts that Peter will deny Christ 3 times before dawn, and Peter denies Christ 3 times before dawn. Peter knows that Satan, like a roaring lion, prowls unseen, seeking to devour us. Even Adam and Eve, created good, fell to his crafty lies despite setting an additional boundary around the tree. God only told them not to eat it, but they added, “We are not to touch it” (Genesis 3:3). Our own hearts are weak; we cannot stand in our own strength. But this prayer is our humble cry: Lord, hold us fast. Our Weakness and the Call to SobrietyThe Catechism honestly admits human frailty: we cannot withstand our enemies in our own strength. Like Adam and Eve in the Garden, or Jacob wrestling with God, we learn that true strength arises only when we cling to the Lord in our weakness. To be “sober-minded” is to maintain spiritual clarity. It is to have the humility that we are not strong enough. It is to have the humility and wisdom to see through the devil's lies. It is to have the humility and confidence to depend upon the grace of Christ. This sober watchfulness keeps us humble, prayerful, and aware that our enemy's attacks often come in subtle, enticing forms.Staying Awake in PrayerPeter urges us to be sober-minded and watchful. A clear mind fixes on Christ's grace, not our plans or power. Jacob spent a lifetime scheming to seaize God's promises by his wit. Then God touched his hip and left him limping. Only then did he cling to God in weakness. So we watch and pray, not trusting our resolve, but leaning on the One who prays for us. Jesus warned His sleepy disciples in Gethsemane: “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” Daily, we bring the same plea: Keep us awake, Lord. Keep us close. God calls us to humble ourselves under His mighty hand, trusting that He is our shield and defender. To cast our anxieties upon Him is not weakness but faith—resting in the One who cares for us.Firm in Faith, Secure in ChristThough Satan seeks to destroy, he cannot snatch God's people from His hand. Christ has already overcome. Each day we pray for grace not to fall, and we look to the One who restores and renews His children. Our trials refine our faith like gold in the fire, teaching us dependence on God's strength. As we resist the devil by standing firm in faith, we remember that Christ Himself prays for His people, upholding them with unfailing love. In Him, we are safe. He shielded Elijah, restored Peter, and refines us through every trial. One day, Christ will visibly crush the lion under our feet. Until then, we pray, we trust, we move forward believing that we are held safe in the Shepherd's grip. We remember that Christ Himself prays for His people, upholding them with unfailing love. In Him, we are safe. So, we are not crippled, but empowered as we ask God to defend us, protect us, and keep us from temptation. We are free to rest in him and do his will. Let us live as living sacrifices as we walk in our shield and defender.
The short statement in John 1:14 that“the Word became flesh” is understood by mainstream Christianity to be adeclaration that the difference between who God is and who man is was breached, that God became man. Anyone interested in considering the many and variousproblems with the “G/god became man” interpretations of this verse can see thearticle/podcast #39 “The Word became Flesh? Why John 1:14 does NOT say that God becameman”.[1]This present podcast presents my developing understanding about what “the Wordbecame flesh” does mean. Let me first state that when I say that “became flesh”in John 1:14 most likely should be interpreted metaphorically, I don't meanthat Jesus was not a real flesh and blood human being. The New Testamentpresents Jesus as a real human being of flesh, blood and bone, a man who toldthe truth that he heard from God. Concerning this we have much to say that is hard to explain, since you have become hard of hearing. For though by now you should be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God and have come to need milk rather than solid food. Everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a baby. But solid food belongs to those who are mature, for those who through practice have powers of discernment that are trained to distinguish good from evil.”Hebrews 5:11-14 WE LIKE EASYWE LIKE THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE WE LIKE SMOOTHWE LIKE AMICABLEWE ARE BY NATURE NON-CONFRONTATIONAL (except online)WE AVOID TENSION OR FRICTIONWE LIKE THE ECHO CHAMBERWE ARE SPIRITUAL INFANTS WHO LIKE MILK AND MASHED POTATOES THAT'S WHY WE HAVE CHRISTIAN MEN WHO: GO TO CHURCHES FOR THE TED TALK AND ROCK CONCERT PREFER PASTORS WHO ARE PRESSED, PLEATED, and PUSSIFIED STILL SIT IN FRONT OF COMPUTER WITH PANTS AROUND ANKLES WHO STILL CANT DO 20 PUSHUPS WHO CAN'T FIND THEIR BIBLE BUT HAVE THEIR MONSTER TRUCK MAG SUBSCRIPTION 5 STEPS TO SUSTAIN SPIRITUAL SUSTENANCEGET SCRIPTURAL STOP TAKING A BUTTER KNIFE TO A SWORD FIGHT Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God EPH 6:17 “For the word of God is alive, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 GET UNCOMFORTABLE HEALTHY TENSION“In this you greatly rejoice, even though now, if for a little while, you have had to suffer various trials, in order that the genuineness of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tried by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ,” 1 Peter 1:6-7 “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. Tim Goehl's story is one of redemption through amplifiers and power chords. After spending 22 years in Austin where his band Carbide nearly signed to Prosthetic Records before addiction derailed his dreams, Tim found himself back in Quincy, Illinois with a clean slate and a commitment to sobriety. When he arrived three and a half years ago, the local music scene was virtually nonexistent. A chance encounter with an old friend's touring band needing a show sparked what would become Midwest Monster Promotions—a labor of love that has now produced over 35 events and breathed life into a dormant musical community. "I turned my addiction from drugs to music," Tim shares, "because when I tried to do both, the drugs took the music away from me."Now working at a drug rehabilitation center by day while promoting shows and playing in five different bands by night (including his "stoner core" outfit Juggernaut Agenda), Tim has discovered that his second chance at music is sweeter than the first. He's built a DIY empire complete with handmade stages, local business sponsorships, and connections to bands from New York to Indiana. His upcoming fourth annual Metal Fest will feature 22 bands over two days, showcasing the incredible talent he believes is overlooked simply because of geography.Whether you're a metal enthusiast or simply appreciate stories of transformation and perseverance, check out Timothy's band Juggernaut Agenda this Saturday in Macomb, IL with Sustenance and Pursuit. Witness firsthand how one man's commitment to sobriety and music is reshaping the cultural landscape of the Midwest, one power chord at a time.Check out Dial The Wild on Facebook and Instagram#dialthewild
Welcome to the 21st sermon in our series on the books of 1 & 2 Samuel. In the books of 1&2 Samuel, God grants his people a king, but it doesn't go the way they think it will go. Power is something every person craves, but does it ever deliver what we hope it will deliver? In God's story, power is a crucible that enables, lifts up, reveals and exposes. It is God's to grant and ours to either steward or worship…one leads to life, the other to destruction. Join us through the books of 1&2 Samuel as we look at the stories of prophets, kings and peasants being shaped and formed by God's crucible of power.
The underground metal scene has experienced a remarkable revival since the pandemic, and bands like Pursuit are at the forefront of this resurgence. Guitarist Henry joins us to discuss how this three-piece outfit from Fargo, North Dakota is carving their path through relentless touring and musical evolution.Henry reveals the band's fascinating sonic journey from their thrash metal beginnings to their current sound heavily influenced by grindcore legends like Napalm Death. "We trim the fat," he explains, describing their philosophy of crafting concise, impactful songs rather than indulging in technical excess. This approach has become central to their identity as they've refined their songwriting process. What makes Pursuit particularly interesting is how they've transformed potential limitations into strengths. As a three-piece, they've developed a symbiotic relationship between instruments where guitar and bass occupy distinct sonic territories while creating a massive, cohesive sound. Their pragmatic approach to touring—typically spanning 6-11 days while balancing day jobs—offers valuable insights for emerging bands about sustainable growth and realistic goal-setting.Don't miss Pursuit on their upcoming Midwest tour, including a stop at The Ritz in Macomb on April 12th, where they'll be joined by Sustenance from Georgia and Juggernaut Agenda from Quincy, llinois. Experience firsthand the raw energy and evolving sound of this promising band as they continue building toward turning their passion into a sustainable career.Check out Dial The Wild on Facebook and Instagram#dialthewild

In Matthew 6, Jesus tells us how we should pray and how not to… “…do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.”Of course, Jesus then gives us the Lord's Prayer as an example of how we should bring our needs to God. But are we skimming over part of it?A Prayer of DependenceIn our world of abundance, it's easy to forget that everything we have comes from God. From food and water to shelter and income, every provision is a gift from Him. Yet, we often assume that our efforts alone secure these blessings.Jesus teaches us to approach God with a heart of dependence, recognizing that even our ability to work and earn is from Him. This mindset shifts us away from self-sufficiency, reminding us to humbly rely on God for all our needs—physical, emotional, and spiritual.Lessons from a World of ScarcityIn Jesus' time, food security was uncertain, and people truly depended on God for their daily sustenance. Today, in a world of convenience and plenty, it's easy to overlook the relevance of this prayer. But the essence of “daily bread” is timeless:It guards us against the pride of self-sufficiency.It combats the illusion that wealth or possessions can provide ultimate security. It redirects our trust from material abundance to God's provision. In a culture that prizes wealth and possessions, praying for daily bread helps us resist the pull of materialism. Jesus warns against relying on earthly treasures and calls us to place our trust in Him instead. This prayer serves as a safeguard, reminding us that:God is our true provider. Our security lies in Him, not in material goods.God's Promise to ProvideJesus doesn't just teach us to ask for daily provision; He reassures us of God's care. In Matthew 6:33, He says:“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”Our deepest need isn't for bread, money, or possessions—it's for God Himself. When we prioritize Him, He promises to meet our needs according to His perfect wisdom.Living the PrayerHow can we make “give us this day our daily bread” more than just words?Pray with Gratitude: Start each day by thanking God for His provision. Gratitude keeps us grounded and aware of His hand in every blessing.Acknowledge Your Dependence: Bring your needs to God, trusting Him to provide. Recognize that He alone sustains you, regardless of your circumstances.Seek God First: Focus on your relationship with God, placing Him above material pursuits. Trust that He will provide all you need.A Transformative PerspectiveThis line of the Lord's Prayer is more than a request for sustenance—it's a call to humility, gratitude, and faith. By praying earnestly for our daily bread, we affirm our dependence on God and realign our priorities with His kingdom. As you reflect on this prayer, consider your needs today. Bring them to God with trust, knowing that He cares for you and will meet your needs in His perfect timing. Whatever you're facing—financial challenges, relational struggles, or uncertainty—God is your ultimate provider.Let's approach Him daily with hearts full of gratitude and faith, thanking Him for His unwavering provision and grace. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I recently learned that since I'm 55 or older, I can withdraw money from my 401(k) without penalty. My husband suggested using $15,000 from that to cover the home repairs we need. I'm hesitant to take money from my retirement, but we need to replace the furnace and AC. Should I withdraw the $15,000 or look at other options, like a home equity loan?I have about $70,000 invested in a CD, earning around 5.5% interest. My broker tells me that's not a good option anymore since interest rates have fallen. He's offered me a 3-year fixed annuity option that would give me a 5.4% return. What are your thoughts on making that switch to the fixed annuity? My husband and I have a $15,000 credit card balance with 11% interest. We've been paying $2,000 per month, but the balance keeps going back up because we've been putting some of our daughter's expenses in London on the card. How can we effectively pay off this debt?Resources Mentioned:Look At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000. Recorded live at Arlington Street Church, Sunday, Nov 3, 2024.
Deborah Freeman is the creator of Setting the Table, a multi-award winning podcast exploring Black foodways and culinary history that in 2023 was honored by the International Association of Culinary Professionals as “Podcast of the Year.” She's also a colleague in the food writing world, with contributions including to Eater, Condé Nast Traveler, and Garden and Gun, and is the food editor for Richmond's Style Weekly. We sat down via Zoom to talk about her most recent project, Finding Edna Lewis, a new docuseries for Virginia Public Media that explores the life of the Black female trailblazer who was a celebrated chef and author. As a proud Virginia native, Deb champions Virginia foodways and the power of personal history as a through line in food that can teach us about ourselves and connect us to our ancestors. It's something that Edna Lewis' work illustrates and the kind of work Deb is doing in the world, too; therefore, here's another Southern Fork sustenance conversation, diving deep into the foundational “why” when it comes to the power of food.
